Good food but it’s abit expensive for what it is. Service at this price point also not up to scratch, it felt like a prezzo. The staff need to be at the next level i think when charging £100+ a head

I really liked the food here. The black cod, the beef skewers, the pork baby ribs, the lamb chops, baby chicken, dumplings all phenomenal. Even the desert platter was great and presentation is even better. Really phenomenal food. The tofu was so good and silky and there are decent options for vegetarians. Really have nothing to complain about the food. We also tried their sakura bottle of sake which I thought was very smooth and easy to drink (only made for Roka). The only drawback here would be the service I think - not that great at refilling wine (had to ask for it constantly) and we were a big group and I don't think they managed the way in which food was served well. For example at one point they brought out just a plate of broccoli in front of us and the next round of food took so long to come. Overall tho, I'd say staff were very friendly and nice - perhaps they had trouble serving such a big group.

Roka: A Disappointing Birthday Celebration After five years of regarding Roka as a go-to destination, I chose it to celebrate my birthday with seven friends. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a night filled with disappointment and frustration. Arrival and Service: Upon arrival, the lack of greetings from the staff was immediately noticeable. Their demeanour suggested dissatisfaction, which I later understood after an encounter with the manager, who proved to be rude and aggressive. Throughout the evening, the service was marked by rudeness and a clear lack of communication. They took the bottles of wine we ordered to the bar; they were rarely served to us, and when we asked for them to leave the bottles on the table, we were met with excuses and confusion. Food Quality: The experience with the food further added to our disappointment. The grab dumplings contained a shell that nearly injured my teeth, and while the black cod was decent, it fell short of the exceptional quality expected, especially given its hefty price tag of £44. It's worth noting that the poor customer service at the beginning likely influenced our perception of the food - not the shell on the dumpling though. Encounter with the Manager: The behavior of the manager was particularly egregious. Despite agreeing to take a group photo for us, she preemptively demanded feedback, knowing we had decided not to pay the full service charge of 15%, which amounted to more than £110. We ultimately paid £70 for service, which felt excessive given the quality of the experience. When I attempted to provide feedback in a polite manner, she interrupted me aggressively, further adding to our frustration. At the end she didn't take the picture, which we did by ourselves outside of the restaurant. In conclusion, our experience at Roka was nothing short of a disaster. From the lacklustre service to the disappointing food quality and the unprofessional behaviour of the manager, it's safe to say we won't be returning. Roka never more ever. What disappointment!

Lovely food, but don’t add “optional” items to the bill.

I wish we was treated like others that was there at the restaurant. Everyone came in was greeted with hand towels, unfortunately we didn’t get offered any. Same goes to giving exceptional services others when it comes to wine selection we just got rushed. Won’t visit this location again, good food but unfair service

Underwhelming, I had high hopes but it’s not much more than just an upmarket cafe serving Japanese food to people who want to feel superior. Service was a bit of a mess although everyone was charming, but I had a rotation of staff serving the table rather than any dedicated waiter/ess. Confused not clear at all. Appalling really for a Restuarant that used to have a high reputation. Food was of a high standard with one exceptional / v good dish. I came here with my friends and family for a celebratory meal. We had a lovely introduction to the meal until we found a cockroach above our head…we reported this to the staff to which they reluctantly moved us to another table. When paying the bill, we again questioned this issue to which the manger answered ‘this is normal is many restaurants’ and told us this was not an issue to which I was shocked. Overall food was lovely - health and hygiene regulations are clearly appalling, and the way the staff dealt with the situation is alarming.

Was excited to celebrate Easter with my family but unfortunately it was all ruined by cockroach’s behind our table. Had to move and unfortunately met by incredibly rude and hostile staff who told me that this unhygienic infestation was normal in their restaurant. Night ruined.

A bit overrated in my opinion. The food is good but I expected more from such an expensive and well known restaurant. I recommend the miso aubergines, delicious. Sushi wasn’t that great. Service was ok.

We visited this venue on Saturday 17 February 2024 for lunch. The lady at the front of the house was not very welcoming. We had called earlier to book and were advised that no table reservations were available, but to come into the restaurant as there would be counter service available. The front of house Lady sat us next to the entrance door, which meant that every time any guests came in, we felt a waft of the icy cold February breeze. We asked to be moved, but she refused saying there were no spare spaces at the counter, yet when some others that came in unannounced, they were ushered to the spaces on the counter that were available. `Please note these were not customers who made pre bookings - `i appreciate there are counter service spaces that were already pre booked. This venue needs to re-think its entrance point. It has 2 other spacious entry points which it has closed off, yet it chooses the tightest, most unfriendly to customers. An entrance point in any restaurant should be either partially cordoned off to prevent any breeze going on to already seated customers or the entrance should be a reasonable distance from the first set of seats or tables nearest to the entrance door - and certainly not in the line of fire of any breeze. Where I was seated, two other customers left before ordering their food because of the breeze effect of that entrance door opening. The lady at the front of the house had the most appalling attitude I have ever seen in any venue - very rude and discriminated against us, when we asked to move, yet she moved a couple of other people who had walked in unannounced. The only saving grace of this lunch was that the table service provided by Luis was good. The food was very average. I don't recommend a visit to this venue.

The only reason I wouldn’t give the food 5 stars is because the sushi was a bit lack lustre. Overall the experience was incredible and the Robata dishes had a bit more of an edge.

Overrated, pricy with poor service. Took the dishes too long to arrive in a tasting menu, with the staff not aware what had already arrived to the table, and with dishes (fish, chicken and meat) arriving together, instead of one by one. Not recommended

An amazing dining experience. This has to be the best Japanese meal I’ve had. The sashimi was stunning. Service was excellent and the staff knowledgeable about the food.

Booked a dinner for over 15 people and they accomdated us perfectly. The set menu food selection was amazing, lots of food to share and also had the option to order food from the main menu additionally. Waiters were fast with service, Chefs’ made our food quickly and bartenders quickly whipped our drinks of choice. I’d definitely recommend for groups of large parties! Want to shout out the waiter Santos especially, you made our night special, thanks for doing a great job. 5*!!

Absolutely wonderful experience. The food, the presentation, the atmosphere were incredible. We got the seasonal menu and would highly recommend. The sashimi, sushi, prawn tempura, chicken and even spinach salad were delicious.

I really wanted to like this place, I’d booked it to treat my parents but it was rather disappointing. We got the premium tasting menu. Started off ok, the sashimi was all well made. But it kind of went downhill from here. Yellow tail carpaccio was ok, but the truffle oil was way too strong and overpowered every other taste. Soft shell crab roll had a few that barely had any crab in it, which was a little disappointing. Rock shrimp tempura was a bit bland. Crab & black cod dumplings and lamb were good, no complaints here. Black cod was a bit too overpowered by the sauce, and a bit on the salty side. Beef fillet (medium rare) lacked any flavour, would have been nice to even have a bit of a sear on the edges. Tenderstem broccoli on the other hand tasted mostly of burn and didn’t go well with the sauce (we were told that the burnt taste is expected) Dessert was great, except we had to wait 50-60 minutes for it. Good selection of cakes/pudding/fruit. As I said I really wanted to enjoy it, but the food was disappointing, the front of house staff were apologetic but not their fault. I hope to give them another shot in the future.

I recently visited Roka Charlotte Street to try out their 20th anniversary special menu. The menu offered two courses for £20. To start, we shared prawn tempura with a spicy yuzu dressing, white miso soup with spring onion, and iceberg lettuce with caramelised onion dressing. For the main course, I ordered the cedar-roasted baby chicken with chilli and lemon. To drink, I had the refreshing matcha iced tea. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. Overall, it was a fantastic experience at Roka!

Marvelous environment and the sushi is amazing!

Unfortunately was upsold by our waiter... asked for Martini and was charged for the most expensive vodka. Moreover the waiter was overall very average, poor chat, no recommendations, just very average. Food, management, and ambiance was great though!

I’ve been to roka a few times however on this occasion the service was sloppy, almost rushed, drinks splashing on the table when being served and food being removed quickly, leaving things on the table. Honestly, a bad experience. Others in this franchise are far more consistent. Regards, Raf

I went to Roka for their 20th anniversary special menu which was £20 for two courses. We had a mixture of sharing starters and I had the pork ribs as my menu, other options included chicken or salmon. Overall the quality of the food was good, tasty and well presented and certainly value for money.

Last minute decision to go for late lunch. It was very busy when we arrived. They were about to close but the service and food were amazing. It was a great value. We will definitely be back again.

Went here for my anniversary and it was a lovely experience, the food (premium tasting menu) was sublime and the service from the staff was impeccable. It was definitely a 5* experience but I have put atmosphere to 4* only due to the music being at a sort of bar level volume where me and my partner were having to almost yell at one another to talk. All in all it was a lovely meal and a lovely time.

Such a wonderful experience. The gentleman that served us was lovely. He helped us with drink recommending drinks etc too. The food is amazing too. We had the premium taster menu and enjoyed every dish.

The restaurant is quite well decorated and a decent theme. I came alongside my wife and daughter. The food was decent at best but considering the venue we most certainly expected something a lot better. The taste left much to be desired but then considering we were sat at the encounter once watching the chef there piece together the food it started making sense. I believe she was the head chef at the counter, and she was clearly either inexperienced or just had enough of working there. Just non stop shouting in front of us which we honestly found hilarious throughout but then again really not what you’d expect coming to this sort of establishment. Let alone her picking things from the floor to be placed back on a plate and sent out. That part wasn’t funny I have to say. The real piece du resistance was watching a waiter or manager (had a grey blazer so I assume he’s meant to be important) drop a little bag on the floor and scramble to pick it up. Of course I’m sure you can imagine what a little transparent bag containing some sort of white substance could be but it’s the last thing i would expect to see here no matter how stressed or upset with the job you may be and most definitely not on the main floor. I had to ask for his name and if you encounter Alessio, I wish you all the best because he was clearly off on one with his attitude and mannerisms. Most certainly plenty of other fine dining experiences where you won’t have to worry about such a situation or at the very least I haven’t. Hakkasan, sexy fish, j sheeky and sushi samba are just the ones off the top of my head where the food and staff are truly levels apart from here.

Don't eat seafood, the steaks and lamb cutlets were good but not amazing. Atmosphere is very nice and service was good also. Nice vibe and great as a place to go out with friends.

Had a great dinner at Roka last night. We staggered our order so that everything wouldn’t arrive at once and this is worth doing if you’re worried about receiving your order all in one go (especially if you’re sitting at a small table for two people). The yellowtail sashimi with yuzu truffle dressing and the cedar roast baby chicken were the two stand out dishes. We’d also ordered edamame, sashimi, beef dumplings, cod dumplings, spicy tuna roll, rock shrimp tempura, and fillet of sea bass. Service was attentive, and cocktails/wine service was spot on. Slightly unhappy with the physical location of our table. Staff and members of the large dining party behind us would bump into the back of my chair to access their table. Rock shrimp tempura wasn’t the greatest and usually I adore it. Also, really small thing but the edamame was undercooked. Hard work getting the soy beans to pop out of their shells but this was a small thing. Would happily recommend this place in the future and will be back again at some point.

We decided to dine in this restaurant as it was a recommendation. The service was really bad as the waiter was insisting on specific dishes and drinks again and again. When the food came the chicken skewers were burnt and you could smell it. All over the food was just okey. On top of it the toilets were very dirty all of them so definitely it down t worth the price for this place. Overestimated

An enjoyable lunchtime meal at Roka. We opted for the 20th Anniversary set menu which offered a number of sharing starters and a main. The Miso soup was very good and also the Prawn Tempura l. For our mains we enjoyed both the Baby Pork Ribs and the Sea Bream which were both well presented and very tasty. The Charlotte Street branch of Roka has a well designed and light dining room with large windows. The kitchen is situated beside the dining room which adds to the overall ambience. The staff were very efficient and extremely helpful and helpful.

Often it happens, that certain brands, after having earned a good reputation, take their customers for granted. Roka Charlotte Street is one such place. We dined here a few weeks back and one of us had few dietary restrictions. We got a confirmation by email before the reservation that they will adapt for the person having the constraints. On the day of the reservation, the team at Roka was inflexible to the point that having paid for their premium menu, they told us that only one of us cannot have beef as “we cut the beef portion per two persons” (all the concerned clients had paid for the premium menu and eligible for beef, but didn’t feel comfortable ordering and discarding the other half of unconsumed beef). Luckily we, the customers, had the good sense to be solution centric - after we proposed to them several solutions, in the interest of their shareholders, they finally agreed to offer us chicken wings as a replacement for beef ;-) As a special complementary offer on the menu, the person acting as a manager (head-shaven man in a burgundy jacket) had the courtesy to express his displeasure by being bothered by our requests by making a sarcastic comment with a smirk on his face - “it’s so nice isn’t it when we all agree ?” Had we not provided our credit card info in advance for a 250+ £ menu while making reservation and had they been clear about their inflexible attitude during the reservation, we wouldn’t have bothered for a second to leave. Following our detailed response to their satisfaction survey received by email, their general manager did email us apologising for our experience and asking for a contact number so that he can discuss with us as to what went wrong. It’s been 1 month and two days and we are still waiting for that call ;-) The customer centric attitude runs from top to bottom :) Regarding the quality of the food, except for very few dishes, pretty disappointing for the price you pay, not to forget the additional robbery via the insane service charges of nearly 15%.

Had a lovely meal with very attentive, friendly staff. The reason I've marked it down is because we had 14.5% service charge (which itself is insanely high) added to our bill and then when handing us the terminal, the server had the cheek to show it with the "enter gratuity" screen showing. I believe this was a deliberate ploy in the hope that showing us that screen would trick us into believing a service charge hadn't already been added to our bill. I strongly suspect other people have already fallen prey to this underhand tactic and ended up paying a huge service fee. The restaurant will probably reply saying that the service charge is discretionary, but realistically a very small proportion of people are actually going to have it taken off the bill. 14.5% itself is stupidly high - even for central London. It's not far off American levels of tipping, but the difference is employers have to pay a fair minimum wage here anyway.

Returned to this restaurant as the previous experience was amazing. Expensive, yes but the food is very good. However this recent experience was rushed. We had the tasting menu (as before) but hot food was being brought out way too quickly and put on the tiniest of tables with all the other plates. By the time we got to it, it was cold. The most annoying thing about this restaurant is the 14.5% service charge. I chose to take it off although the manager came over and asked me why. I tipped separately as the prices are over inflated anyway. However I’m sure we will return as all in all it’s a nice place to visit.

I personally really like Roka. Good food and a good atmosphere. I personally enjoy doing the taster menu as they bring food out regularly and you don’t have to stress about what to order. We sat downstairs with was pretty nice. I think upstairs is even better tho as you can see them cooking the food. It’s obviously not a cheap restaurant but you get what you pay for. And we got good service and great food.

The venue is great, everything was fine, but food portions are a bit small for some dishes despite being pricy, the most disappointing thing though were the drinks, very limited and basic selection of cocktails.

Food was excellent. Service terrible, I have been to Roka several times, service was terrible. Waiter was not as professional and discret, wanted to be fun, but he was not great. We didn’t have wine just soarkimking and tape water, glasses were constantly empty we have to call and wait long time before getting new water. Then empty dishes were always waiting on the table, we asked if we could be served in 90 minutes, it was not an issue. Everything was so slow. I complained to the manager discretely, and the waiter became moody. When the service is not there the experience is a disappointment Maybe the fault of second service, what a pity

Nice location service good, we all ordered a main meal and a few side dishes. The portions were minute and plain, it was embarrassing to say we came out still feeling hungry for the money we paid= value 0.

Was on London during a business trip, this was totally over the daily budget i had for per diem but it was totally worth it cause its the best sushi I’ve ever had. Order some salad appetizers and some chef selection nigiris and sashimis too, everything was fresh and tasted amazing. I wish i could go back and keep tasting everthing else that was on the menu. 100/10 , if you are in london and do not mind spending a few extra pounds to get some high quality sushi and great experience go to this place.

Very rude staff, especially the manager. Please learn how to communicate without being rude about it. The one in Canary Wharf is way better, would recommend that one.

The female chefkok who prepared the black cod was very professional every second she would check the cod spray it look at it and when she took it from the grill she inspected again ! This place is a joy to come to! It was recommended by a friend and although very pricey, you get great sushi in a classy place. Highly recommend the yellowtail sashimi, you cannot go wrong with this! To keep things easy, I went with al the premium tasting platter. I asked to change the meat for fish options which Roka were happy to substitute. Would certainly be back soon

Very overpriced and substandard sushi. If you know about good quality sushi, or indeed good quality food, then you will have the same experience i did. I was going to another local sushi resto but it was closed on monday so i thought id go to roka after not going for 6 or 7 years. It was a mistake. Other than the great service and atmosphere, the food was a huge letdown. Will not be returning.

We visited ROKA Charlotte street for the 3rd time, and it was a fantastic experience once again. Service is very kind and fast, and the food is just so delicious. Everything from the robata grill brings you to heaven. I strongly recommend both the big tasting menu and the smaller lunch menu to try. At the end of the experience the waiter always asks: which dish was our favourite? It's very hard to answer, because the sushi & sashimi, the baby chicken, the tempura, the fish, everything is so GOOD. Cocktails are also lovely, I strongly recommend to try. ROKA will be a regular place for us, thank you to the staff for all your hard work & dedication!

SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE at Roka Charlotte Street, considering I had to reach out to someone and specifically point out the purpose of our arrival to the waiter (birthday dinner) but still felt like there was no consideration from the lady delivering our service. The lack of attention was appalling, we waited nearly 20 minutes for my main dish to arrive without any one approaching us to give us an update, frustrating as everyone around us were fine. After my partner had kindly asked a different waiter for cutlery, It was not handed after 5 minutes. Standards in the hospitality industry were definitely not met in this place. We were disappointed with how our night turned out and the audacity of paying £327 INCLUDING SERVICE CHARGE, knowing well we were not happy. Please avoid this place if you are coming with the intention of celebrating something special with good service.

Great overall. Have been a few times. The little details were lacking on this visit. Food was exceptional as expected, but service was a bit of a letdown. 1. Bringing a second beer in the glass when my partner specifically asked for it to be left in the bottle so it doesn't create a frothy head. 2. When we ordered the 5 selection sashimi, the waitress noticed I had ordered 5 types of sashimi and didn't think to tell me it was chefs selection, and ended up bringing 10 selection sashimi. It is the job of a waitress to make sure she informs the customer if they are making an error with the order. Just to verify that they understand they are ordering double. We kept the 10 for ease, but still, I would not have expected that at a place such as Roka. Can't fault the food, ambience, decor, and friendliness of staff though. I should have taken service off the bill on this occasion.

Seasonal tasting menu was immense. Lots of food, incredible presentation and clean, delicious and beautiful food.

I went to Roka 2 years ago and really enjoyed it so I was looking forward to going back there. We had a table downstairs and sadly my experience was nothing like the first trip. The vibe downstairs is more nightclub like with very loud music. There was a table of people next to us who were constantly shouting which added to the music made any conversation impossible. Our seats were very uncomfortable with no backs to the chairs and the toilet was a complete state. The service was very slow and we had to ask several times for items we had ordered. I have to say the food was absolutely exceptional but the overall experience was poor considering this is not a cheap restaurant. I would not go back.

Fabulous restaurant, nice elegant ambience, very busy when we went. We ordered off the à la carte menu and it was incredible. However, the dessert was disappointing, I had the sticky toffee pudding and it was too heavy and too sweet, I’m usually a sweet tooth but I couldn’t finish it. Everything else was great, in hindsight I should’ve gotten the cheesecake. Starters and main were tasty and cocktails were great

I was at the Roka for my birthday with an another person and were assisted by a waiter named Deborah. The food was exceptional, particularly the black cod, which cooking was perfect. Also, the banana dessert to me deserves to be mentioned. Deborah explained all the dishes to us and made us feel at home by talking with us without being intrusive , and by suggesting the most delicious dishes and constantly filling up our glasses with wine. Overall, it was a great experience; I will certainly come back .

Arrived early for an already early dinner booking as shown promptly to our table. Lots and lots of staff available to take drink and food orders, but more importantly answer questions about the menu. Sushi rolls came out first, followed by hot dishes. My partner didn't want a pudding, but instead another round of sushi which was accommodated by the staff. The coffee and whiskey sundae was a fantastic dessert!

We love Roka. We ordered California Roll, mushroom maki and Chirashi maki, all the them are very decent. For grills we ordered scallops, chicken wings and lamb cutlets. Scallops are beyond excellent, would highly recommend. For drinks, we had lychee cocktails and umeshu, both are very good matching with food. Love the service, only the music was a bit too loud. Spent total £150 for two person. Definitely would come back!

Favourite Japanese in town, very consistent a bit on the expensive side, but worth the money

Delicious food, tiny portions, tremendously overpriced

Came here on a busy Saturday night for my wife’s birthday. Dinner at six so we arrived at 5:40 and had a drink downstairs in the lounge beforehand. We were greeted in a very pleasant friendly manner and taken up to our table where we ordered the seasonal tasting menu. I have to say that the food was absolutely exquisite. Everything tasted beautifully fresh. It was all faultless. The highlight was the beef with padron pepper, skewer and the sashimi. There is no getting away from me, this place is hyperexpensive, but you get what you pay for.

Visited for lunch on Sunday. It was actually very quiet. I have been here quite a few times before on a variety of occasions. Spicy edamame was great; special of salmon tataki very good and recommended. Nigiri good, but nowhere near as good as Umu, which we have also been to recently. Lamb chops and asparagus also good. When I was last here they had lots of rice hot pots etc. Also one of the best dishes I have ever had was grilled quail. And the sharing plate of fruit for dessert was amazing. I can’t help feeling that this meal really did not hit those high notes but it was still very nice.

Excellent meal. Had the premium taster menu and it was all delicious.

Lovely as usual and 345£ for 2 is now the new normal for a meal in Central London. Too expensive but everything else was good

Possibly one of the best dining experiences for early.dinner in London. Fantastic dishes explained with clear knowledge and enthusiasm.
