Rocky Bottoms in North Norfolk

Came here in November for a meal The food was absolutely fantastic. Had a share platter (£97) The seafood all tasted so fresh and was cooked to perfection. The piece of seafood tart/quiche that came with it would have been nicer warm, we didn't eat it all, but the rest of the food was delicious. Will certainly return

We stopped by for lunch on Sunday and enjoyed our experience. Fish tasted fresh, the crab pappardelle was creamy and had generous amounts of crab meat in it, making it my fave. Surprisingly good range of menu options, and specials. Not just your typical fish and chips. The staff are all upbeat, friendly and attentive. We left full and happy. Thank you rocky bottoms.

Had a gorgeous lobster and crab platter here in the sun. Great views and service and delicious food. Yes it’s expensive but you are getting great food, beautifully cooked in a lovely setting. Definitely will be going back. Kids meals were very large and great value.

If you like seafood especially crab or lobster it’s a must to visit and indulge. Never disappoints and we always visit when down in the area. Staff are all very friendly which adds to the experience.

Exceptional !!! We love this place and cannot recommend it enough. Lovely friendly staff. Food as always was perfect, we had mackerel pate, garlic mushrooms, garlic crevettes, fish & chips , grilled haddock & chicken burger , cooked to perfection, the side salad are beautiful and full of flavour & quantity. Extremely lucky to be able to sit alfresco looking over the sea on a mid September day. Just wish we lived closer as this would be our local. Can also recommmend the Crab Hut for superb crabs & crevettes to take home. Looking forward to coming back next Spring unless we can sneak a cheeky weekend away in before then.

My cousin who lives in France and married to a French man wanted him to taste true fresh Norfolk seafood. Not generally sea food eaters ourselves we had to rely on reviews and this place did not disappoint! Our party ate a full seafood platter, the special garlic lobster platter and haddock curry and we cleared the lot!! Then we had the most yummy desserts too. Lemon posset , Rocky mess and creme brulee. We loved the place the multiple rooms give it a unique quirkiness. Dog friendly without being outside. Friendly staff and not all teenagers. Loved nothing between it and the sea. We'll definitely be back as will our French family one day!!

Everything lived up to our expectations at this excellent restaurant. My wife enjoyed her lobster Thermidor as I did my lobster pappardelle. Service was prompt and friendly. This whole enterprise, coupled with the family’s own fishing boat, is to be applauded. We would definitely come again.

Having looked at local reviews and then read their statement on their own menu we were looking forward to a special meal and a promising ambience. We were sorely disappointed. My crab salad - salad was good, potatoes average but the crab brown meat was watery. My husband's haddock and chips was positively third rate, that's if it was even Haddock!??? As we only live a short while away. We won't go back in a hurry and won't recommend. The service was poor. Long faces not the smiles and brightness promised. Hair dangling in the food, not tied up. Basic hygiene. And requests for iced water not carried out and the next table took them three requests to get their table water. We were also stuck in a non window room. Being the main corridors between serving areas. If I wanted British rail food on a British rail station. I'd go there.

Food seemed very average. Haddock was pretty tasteless, get much better in the local chip shop and wife's crab was pretty average, didn't strike us as being fresh locally caught. Write ups are brilliant, so maybe we hit it on a bad night...

We have been several times to rocky bottoms and have never had a bad meal. Seafood was delicious and our dog was happy in the bar area. Lots of cravettes in our portion and handmade chips were delicious. The garlic sauce on both lobster and cravettes was delicious. The only thing we noticed was that the half lobster was priced at £27 on the menu and the bill had it down as £30 (this we only noticed once home). Service was good but 13% service charge does seem a bit steep when the prices are already high. We also felt slightly rushed with the experience as we were in and out in an hour and at £200 for a dinner for 4 we would have liked a longer meal.

We visited for a birthday lunch. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious. We had Calamari, Crab, a seafood Tart, all was lovely.

A beautiful spot to have the most wonderful lunch. I had natural oysters followed by Crab salad and hubby had Mushrooms on toast then surf ‘n’ turf with lobster, ALL DELICIOUS. A lovely bottle of wine mad the long walk back to Cromer hard work but it was well worth it! Great service from our waitress Kate!

Great dining location. Very warm and personable welcome, great service by all of the waitstaff. The avocado crab dish was extremely tasty, the crab was very fresh and sweet tasing. We both had the grilled haddock for mains again excellent. Highly recommend

This venue is dining out on it's reputation for good seafood. It is expensive but the food is not impressive. It is distinctly average with a high price tag - when compared to other venues in the area. They put a service charge on the bill of 13% and then ask you in front of everyone at the till if you are happy with that. They will then take it off, but you should be at liberty to give your own tip or reject a tip in with the privacy of the card machine. Felt rather backmailed into paying a tip at this level. Meal - whilst fresh was pretty tasteless. Not great.

Restaurant in a beautiful country setting by the sea with fishing boats & fishing gear all around. Outdoor seating. Big carpark. I ate a Cromer crab salad with new potatoes (Or chips if you want) Excellent service & everything clean & healthy. Yes I would return.

We called in at Rocky Bottoms after a walk along the coastal path. This is one of the most authentic seafood restaurants you will find and a must if you like seafood and are in North Norfolk. We had lobster thermidor and crab and it was outstanding. The chocolate brownies were also wonderful. The owners are also the fisherman and it is explained that some things may not always be available if they haven’t been able to catch them. I note from some of the reviews that it is very expensive. This always makes me think that if you mention the price in a restaurant review you probably can’t afford it!

We were seated in the conservatory part with the views of the fields where the view horses and the sea. We were greeted by the team of staff who were in great spirits and gave a great feel and welcoming to the place. We were served by Abby and. ELLIE. They were very attentive to our needs.And the food was served in perfect timing. We had half a lobster each garlic.And it was great.

2nd visit as needed to bring our friends here. Pleased to say no one was disappointed! The food was fab, the staff were attentive and the atmosphere was great. We arrived a few mins early and were sat at the front with menus and We would have had more to drink whilst waiting for our table but sadly the staff were busy. One of our party became unwell (nothing to do with the restaurant) and staff kindly delayed our mains and helped us get our friend back to feeling better! We will definitely return!

What a beautiful restaurant with great view of beach and sea, great outside area as well. Quality is fabulous the choice of seafood is incredible and so good. Staff were so helpful and friendly. We will definately be back.

Good food, but the price hurt... The night before we had extraordinary food at Gunton Arms for £183 and this was £200 for lunch... it was good, but I've had better lobster in Norfolk at a lower price... Enjoyable and fresh , but way too much for a casual lunch...

Arrived 30 mins before opening time but were welcomed in and advised kitchen not open till 12, which was fine as we were just passing. We both had scallops to start which came as 3 large ones each & tasted wonderful. I followed these up with lobster Thermidor chips & salad and Jo had prawn and haddock pappardelle, which she enjoyed. I wasn’t too keen on the Thermidor but that’s just me. We both had puddings. Presentation of everything was great and staff were attentive.

I wouldn’t recommend this place if you are just wanting fish snd chips . I think it’s mire of a sea food restaurant. We love sea food but today we fancied fish and chips and that’s what we ordered . We weren’t too keen on the batter . It’s gluten free and just not very tasty . The fish inside it was nice and fresh though . The chips tasted like they had been reheated too . I had a Runton mess for dessert which was underwhelming as it was shop bought meringues with berries and a small amount of pouring cream rather than nicely whipped cream . My glass of Albariño cost £11 . Fish and chips £22 . Dinner for 2 £86 as they add an optional 12 per cent service charge . We won’t be returning

We had a really delicious meal here, we had lobsters and a crab salad, plentiful portions and lovely fresh seafood. Our daughter had chicken and chips, tasty but small portion for price. The kiln was a nice quiet alcove for us to sit in. We had a nice enough server, but barely saw them, no check in on how our meal was, no asking if we needed more drinks, had to flag someone to get the bill etc,. If service charge is automatically included make it great service!

Just so good! Dog friendly table (a relatively new policy I think), friendly and faultless service and of course amazing food. Fish and chips was sublime - hot, flaky fish, the lightest and crispiest batter and perfect chips. Also had the lobster which (so I’m told!) was perfect. We will be back…. Often!

A lovely location with excellent views. The service from the manager leaves a lot to be desired, unfriendly, surly and not very engaged to be honest. The fish and chips were good but the linguine was a little dry. Toilets were not very clean. Overall a little disappointing when this place has such great potential. Staff training and friendliness could be a good place to start.

I had spotted the venue on trip advisor before our visit to Cromer but hadn’t planned to eat there specifically. We happened upon it as we walked from Cromer to West Runton & saw the venue close by. Perfectly timed for lunch! We treated ourselves to the seafood platter. Really fresh and tasty combo of lobster, crab, herring, oysters, langoustines, salad and fries. Delicious and highly recommended. Staff and manager were friendly and accommodating.

We turned up around the time they were meant to close on a Monday night at the start of off season hoping to get some crab from the hut as everywhere else is closed. I think they had technically closed already but someone came out to serve us and a family who drove in after we walked up. They even managed to find some cutlery for us to eat it with. Couldn't have been happier with our tea or the service. Thank you so much for saving us in our quest for food on our first night here!

Dropped in after spotting the entrance enroute to our cottage, the staff where really friendly and accommodated us with the only available table - it was Wednesday lunchtime, out of season, and the car park and restaurant was full! We came with a 15 week old puppy and there was no problem sitting either inside or out. Food was so fresh, and came quickly, well presented and tasted amazing - all plates finished. We’re only in Sheringham a week but likely to head back before we leave. Highly recommended!

Top notch food and excellent service summed up our Rocky Bottom experience. This was an architecturally superb building whose modern yet rustic surroundings had an endearing ambiance. Our group ate a variety of seafood dishes most of which were based on crab. All were hearty portions which were both filling and delicious. The waitresses were friendly helpful and attentive. If you like seafood you will not be disappointed by this unassuming gem of a restaurant on the North Norfolk coast.

My partner and I dined here late afternoon yesterday after a day of walking along the coastal path.We shared the seafood platter and a bottle of wine.The food was awesome could not fault it at all.Staff friendly.A truly great find and would definitely visit again if we return to the area.

We went to this restaurant for a mid week lunch. We hadn’t booked a table but they managed to find us a table. We were put on the table with another four tables in the small back room by the bar and kitchen area which was a bit scruffy. The music was quite loud and I was a bit disconcerted when an obvious favourite track of a member of staff was turned up and they started singing along with it. I was also concerned as I expected the rooms at the front which was a much nicer dining area would have been full but noticed on going to the toilet there were no one sitting at the tables here. It was clear then that the staff had put us all together in the back room for their convenience of service and so they could chat with the kitchen staff and keep an eye on us at the same time. The menu was very limited with no smaller lunch time alternatives. My husband’s fish and chips was very disappointing with very pale hardly cooked chips and batter. My crab pasta dish was fine. However, I had the lemon posset for dessert. This was half a cereal bowl of thick cream with no flavouring of lemon at all. We visited this restaurant about 18 months ago and was very impressed with it then so it was such a disappointment. The whole set up seemed to be run for the convenience and ease of the staff and not for providing a good dining experience for the customers.

We came here on recommendations. We wasn't shown to our table, the girl just pointed at the table. We wasn't offered a drink, just what you food we wanted, we had to ask for drinks. My husband and I both had 1/2 Lobster with garlic butter, salad and new potatoes. The Lobster was cold, and tough, we Didn't even get the claw, which is usually the best part. The service was very poor, we was never asked if we wanted anything else, or any sauces etc, not even how the food was, the staff really didn't care. When we complained, the young girl wasn't interested and didn't care, her answer was "My dad cooks the Lobsters in the morning and just warms them up under the grill" when we said that the Lobster wasn't hot, we were told that it wasn't meant to be hot.. Very, very disappointed and will definitely not be returning.

After a very good experience on Friday- we were disappointed on the Saturday as we were put on what looked like a child’s table with both of us looking out of the window ,even though there were other tables being unused . We ordered and service was very quick but garlic bread never arrived until we went to the bar to ask - then when it came it was smothered and really unpleasant . We’ve been coming here for a few years when we are in the area and it is not as it used to be .

Went for early lunch on Thursday, glad we booked a table as it was full by 12:30. Small menu but what’s on there is very good and we enjoyed our meals. I had the crab linguine which had mint, chilli & lime through it and was amazing we all agreed it was our best dish. Friends had a crab salad with lovely potatoes and fish & chips. We had a delicious lunch here yesterday . We had booked online. The weather was good so we sat outside on the terrace. Nice sea view. I had a whole lobster , salad and fries. There was plenty of delicious lobster apparently caught locally in Weybourne. A glass of fizz worked well with it. My Husband had a very tasty crab salad. Friendly , efficient young staff. We then walked along the cliffs into East Runton and Cromer. West Runton also has a train station.

We arrived on the early side for lunch, which was fortunate as a queue soon built up. The lady who 'met and greeted us' looked as though we had spoilt her day by turning up. The young waitress who served us was more friendly but was obviously rushed off her feet. They seem to be short of staff.The seafood platter was fresh and tasted good but the price of £65 was pretty steep.

What an amazing place this is, a true find. This is always a popular place and as they don’t currently take bookings you may have to queue, up its well worth the wait. They have lots of of tables outside, some under a canvas canopy, others one their cliff top field and others on their open terrace. There is also tables inside but on the hot sunny day we were able to sit outside. The menu is written on a chalk board - which you need to take a phot of so you can order at the table, the expanse of the menu will depend on the current days fishing as everything is really fresh having been caught that morning. My sister and I shared the Rocky Bottoms Platter with was amazing and truly beautifully presented. Whilst my cousin had the Crevettes which took him back to family holidays in Brittinay. It’s our second visit and certainly won’t be our last. If you love sea food and love a different dining experience I would recommend Rocky Bottom.The staff are amazing and extremely friendly; the environment is relaxed and has brilliant surrounding with the sea in the distance. We stopped in here for lunch on a Tuesday whilst on a short break. It was really busy and after eating here we’re not surprised!The seafood was first class and the setting is beautiful! Service was quick given how full they were.I wouldn’t hesitate to return and or recommend a visit to others!

We’ve been coming here for over five years now, it’s expanded in size owing to the success of the restaurant. The seafood is amazing, the staff are brilliant and it has the best sounds around. Lobster and fries with Steve Forbert, Neil Young and Steely Dan in the background. Perfect!

Lunch at RB's was a lovely way to end our week's stat in Cromer. We were lucky to have sunny weather, so enjoyed our lunch outside. It's not possible to book, so as it's walk-in only be prepared to wait to be shown to a table and for food to be prepared. It's worth it!!

We arrived just before they opened at mid-day but even then there was a long queue. Service was painfully slow which appeared to be due to the kitchen rather than waiting staff as plenty of people taking orders. Haddock and chips were adequate but nothing special. This restaurant was recommended to us friends so maybe they were having an off day. Unfortunately won't be rushing back.
