Racist Establishment - walked here for a pub lunch and arrived well before they were due to close for lunch. My husband went inside to ask where we could sit and was told abruptly ‘we’ve stopped serving food now’. He hadn’t even asked about food at this point. It was clear food was still being cooked too. My husband came back outside and said they gave him the filthiest look when they saw him walk in and that we should go. They came out and when they saw I looked white they said we could sit and have a drink if we wanted - it was a very hot day and we were with our 2 year old child and 2 small dogs and were in desperate need of a drink - every table we pointed at they gave some excuse as to why we couldn’t sit there so in the end we didn’t have much choice but to leave and walk back home in the heat. Disgusting experience - will never go back!

I took my mum and dad and a family friend for lunch at this lovely country pub as Will and Mandy used to do the catering at Berkhamsted Golf Club. Spotlessly clean and well sorted with anti Covid measures. Excellent customer service and we all enjoyed a delicious lunch and drinks. The pub has a large outside area which we could not experience due to the awful weather when we visited. One to visit again for sure. Thanks so much we all enjoyed the visit.

It was my wife`s birthday, and my daughter lives in London, so as a surprise for my wife,we decided to meet up half way. We`d been walking in Letchworth and it was touch and go whether we`d get there before the kitchen closed at 3. Luckily, my daughter got there earlier, and we were ok. No beef left, so we went for the remaining pork and turkey roasts, with side orders of veg, roast potatoes and cauli. cheese! Excellent food, excellent setting , excellent friendly service, and good value for money. We`ll be back in the summer, as they also have a lovely garden. Thanks for a lovely visit.

Known mainly to locals, this is a friendly, off-the-beaten-track hostelry with excellent beers and food. There are tables outside in the summer and a cosy inside during the winter. Whatever the time of year, there's a warm welcome from the staff and a good choice of draught beers. The menu is small, but the portions are large and the prices are very reasonable.

I was taken here by a friend and I'd need a sat nav to find it again! But don't be put off - the secret location is part of it's charm. An authentic pub lunch menu; omelettes, scampi, sandwiches etc. We had the chicken curry special and a mushroom omelette - both delicious. There were several reserved tables, so the pub must be popular. We both thought it was great! £20 for lunch for two.

A friend and I recently went for sunday lunch and we were both stunned by the rude reception and attitide - by what turned out to be the the publican/landlady.I've been here before since this couple took over the pub - 3-4 times at least and last time in April - every time the staff was very welcoming and the food excellent with large portions. This time around I was very surprised and ashamed to have brought my friend in such an unwelcoming place! I thought it might be that we were dealing with holiday cover or that the chef had changed. But no, a friend of mine - who is a regular - confirmed we had dealt directly with the publican. :-(Maybe she was having a bad day but it cleary rubbed off the young staff as there was not a very nice atmosphere. The food was ok, but here also, the presentation and condiments not the same as last time. All in all, not a nice experience nor a place I'll go back in a hurry or take friends.A real shame.

A very solid, competent Sunday lunch in a pleasant shady garden, generous portions, wasn't quite so impressed by the house red. A lovely rural setting in Hertfordshire countryside for a popular and fairly busy pub. A commendably brief and realistic menu, not like pubs that try and cover all bases by offering their ersatz versions of Mexican, Thai, etc dishes.

This review is solely to point out that contrary to a certain website which lists details of pubs that allow you to overnight on their car parks, this one doesn't. My friend and I were enjoying a drink here. A group of cyclists (on a charity bike ride) started to trickle in for refreshments. After 10 minutes or so a male employee (or the manager?) in a filthy apron appeared and chastised the charity bike ride's organiser in front of everyone, for not giving the pub advanced notice of their arrival. The organiser, obviously a little shocked, then explained she had emailed the pub 4 weeks previously and had received a response to her email. My friend and I were shocked at this gentleman's attitude - it is a pub, these visitors required only refreshments and a little rest in the garden - and they were riding for charity! Shame on you, Robin Hood and Little John.

I have just returned from a family Sunday lunch at the newly refurbished restaurant at the pub. A thoroughly enjoyable experience in a cosy, traditionally decorated room boasting not one but two log fires. The staff were really attentive and totally unfazed when I said that I was gluten intolerant and therefore needed a gluten free meal. My sirloin of beef (a choice out of the four roast meats on offer) was just so tender and really was medium rare as promised, set off by a selection of about four seasonal vegetables and crispy roast potatoes. The desserts were varied and we selected sticky toffee pudding, pear and almond tart and homemade ice cream which were all excellent. If you want really good food in a pub setting this is a place to go. For 3 adults and one toddler including drinks it cost £55 and was worth every penny.

On reflection the evening spent at the Robin Hood & Little John on the 5th November was a very bad choice for a number of reasons;1. There were to many people which meant a small outside area was over crowded2. Very long serving times, it took on average 20 mins to get a drink and 1 hour at least to be served any food.3. The hog roast was not very good and the only alternative was served cold.4. I am not a smoker and do not like inhaling other peoples fumes, smoke or electrically created, this one evening promotes every reason why smoking should be banned in public places. What a shame that a little bit of preparation and planning would of made it a much better night out.

This is the sort of pub that takes you back to your childhood on a warm summer evening being sat in the garden with a bag of crisps and a bottle of pepsi with a straw. It's had a massive turnaround in terms of food and service since the previous bar manager left in October 2015 and now boasts a resident chef and staff who are very friendly and attentive. We visited this pub in May with friends who are holding an event with the pub this year. The pub has a great name so I had high expectations but it's really dated, it's more of an old man pub in my opinion, carpet in the toilet and in the main areas which looks really tired and worn. The waitress Eleanor I think was lovely and I cannot fault her service, but I found the pub a little yokel. Perhaps because I'm mixed race and my partner is not I felt that people were a bit nosey/prone to staring, I accept this might have been my perception but I haven't felt like that in other pubs in Knebworth. The food menu is really limited, my partner had squid which he said was horrid, a friend had cauliflower soup which he said was tepid and my tomato dumplings were ok, nothing special. The mains were not much better, limited choice and they were out of pork so I had a mushroom dish in cream sauce which was bland, my partner had the roast beef which he said was chewy, it did look well presented though. The dessert was however the worst, it was absolutely disgusting, it was meant to be s rum bread and butter pudding, it was a slab of stodgy manufacturer something which smelled weird and tasted nothing like bread pudding. The bill for 4 with the deserts removed was £85 and given the food was not great I felt it was a lot. Aside from this event I'm attending at the pub no way would we consider eating there again. A really disappointing first experience.

My wife and I were driving between Codicote and Stevengae when we spied a sign at the roadside directing us to this delightful old pub. As it was lunchtime we decided to take a chance. There is plenty of parking, and the grounds are lovely in the sunshine, very well kept and warm. Inside is a proper traditional pub with a good selection of McMullen ales, as well as the usual lagers, ciders and bottled drinks. Although they normally don't do food on a Monday, this was the May Day bank holiday and they had a basic small but comprehensive menu on offer. We opted for a burger and chips, and fish & chips while I supped on McMullen Country Bitter and my wife and half a cider and some lemonade (she was driving). The beer was lovely, and the food was excellent. The piece of fish was really lovely while the burger looked to be home made and of an good quality. The only possible issue was that the pub had run out of chunky chips and served french fries...fine but we would have preferred to know in advance.Staff were all lovely and service was brisk despite the pub being quite busy. Toilets were clean (both ladies and gents). The pub was a little out of our way, but we would be happy to return. To cap it off, I even met a chap who worked with my dad 50 years ago while eating lunch. Families were certainly welcome, as were dogs. The pub has water bowls for dogs and as far as I could tell they were both welcome in the bar and outside.

The younger ones had home made beef burgers with triple fried chips. Amazing food from a village pub. Thank you.

This restaurant has apparently appointed a new chef in the last few months and I can highly recommend the food he cooks. I visited with two friends at the weekend and we were all really impressed with the choices on the menu, the quality and presentation of the food and the friendliness of the lady who served us. I can recommend the crayfish cocktail with a wonderfully piquant sauce and also the chips which accompanied my very tasty chicken breast burger. Sadly we had no room for dessert but will definitely have one next time. The log fire added a lovely atmosphere to a special evening.

The food was very nice, even the vegetarian option, nut roast, which is unusual. It states 'Fine Dining' the food and prices reflect that, but the tables are normal pub layout with just a serviette and a knife and fork, very sparse, but the staff were welcoming and friendly.

Fantastic service! Fantastic staff! Fantastic venue! Fantastic night! I can't recommend them highly enough.I booked their restaurant for my birthday party with 26 friends. The management at The Robin were so helpful in the weeks running up to the event, sending us menus and organising seating arrangements and accommodating all of my friends varied dietary requirements, including the Vegan :)They were very welcoming on the night and very accommodating. It can be hard with such a big group who are splitting the tab individually and ordering lots of drinks throughout the night, but The Robin made it SO EASY! We were able to use the private bar in the restaurant area throughout the evening rather than ordering drinks on tab to the tables, and after dinner throughout the evening we could go up individually and they worked out for us what each person had to settle, it couldn't have gone smoother!I had a really lovely birthday evening there and was over the moon with how it all went. The staff were so lovely and friendly, they really made my night and I would definitely book again :)Huge thank you to all at The Robin! And of course to the Chef for all your hard work and delicious food, it was scrumptious! Those that hadn't pre-ordered a pudding suffered big food envy when they saw the desserts arrive, they hastily placed extra orders and the chef was kind enough to accommodate :)Thank you! Georgina x

My family and I visited this nice little pub for a late Sunday lunch. The service was fantastic from the moment we rang to see if they had a table until we left. We had all the starters, main and dessert and it was very good indeed. The homemade lemon tart was a real treat. Prices are reasonable and the pub has beautiful surroundings.

Lovely little pub, food was good and service was lovely too! The food was more 'bistro pub' than 'traditional pub', so if that's your thing you're in luck! A little more expensive than the norm, but it's a very small pub so you can understand why!

This was an on the spur of the moment let's have a pub lunch moment when we saw a sign on the main road directing us towards The Robin Hood & Little John pub.after a drive through some very pretty countryside the pub appeared and despite the weather being wet and miserable it looked very inviting. The separate little restaurant was both charming and cosy and the open fire was very welcome. The menu was not huge but varied for a variety of tastes and most important, everything was freshly cooked . The service was first class and very friendly almost as if you had known the waitress for some time. We were impressed and wish the new management great continued success. Well done

A group of 9 friends enjoyed an excellent meal at the Robin Hood & Little John - for most of us it was our first ever visit. There's a small dining area located in the old pub, and the kitchen is under new management. The a la carte menu offers a good variety of dishes, and traditional-based pub food (some with a twist) is also available from the bar. Our main courses, including pan-roasted rib of beef, fish cakes, chicken breast and belly of pork, were beautifully-presented, delicious and filling. Several people ordered desserts, mainly sticky toffee pudding (it was a cold night!) but also a wonderful orange and ginger posset. The wine menu offers sufficient choice - our Malbec was very good. All-in-all a very satisfying evening out, well worth a visit to the Hertfordshire countryside.

The Robin Hood and Little John is a delightful pub in a delightful location. We first discovered it more than 40 years ago and rediscovered it some 15 years ago. The new tenants seem to be doing well. The pub side retains its character and the small cosy, separate restaurant is inviting. We went for Sunday lunch. It's billed as a carvery but it's not really a carvery in that you don't queue up to select your meat and pick your vegetables. You have to tell the waitress what you want and she gets it. I probably prefer the self service type of carvery. Nonetheless, the food was good and the beef was very good. The slices of meat were reasonably thick - the only way to serve beef. The pear and apple crumble was good too. All in all, we will probably be back some time.

Had a great meal, very high quality food with all agreeing it was very nice. Service was very friendly and no complaints from anyone, even though I was there with a bunch of people who absolutely love to moan. Will go again. Is mostly a summer venue as the inside is small but we still got a large table on a Saturday night without any trouble, can only imagine its absolutely fantastic in summer when sitting outside.

First off, the staff here have never been anything but pleasant, even when under intense pressure. That pressure doesn't seem to be helped however, by the complete and utter disregard for anything remotely resembling customer service from the gentleman I've been led to believe is the manager. Every occasion that I have visited the Robin (which is in a great setting by the way) has been spoiled somewhat by a grumpy, unfriendly manager. In the summer we attended a barbecue here; while I was ordering lunch and drinks at the bar, the manager told my young son he was not allowed to sit at the bar (he wasn't planning on staying there, he was simply making a decision on what to drink/eat). Even the barman was astounded - and embarrassed - by this and told me to ignore him, calling him grumpy. On my most recent (and possibly last) visit back in August, I stopped by here while out on a bike ride with my kids, on this occasion, we were advised that the card machine was out of order - which is fair enough - but the manner in which the manager barked at us across the pub was very much the final straw for me. If this is the face of the Robin Hood & Little John that greets the customer it's a real shame.

The restaurant is small and cosy. Best to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment. The service is great and the food is excellent. The new chef has produced a new menu to suit all tastes and just to reiterate the food will not disappoint.

Under recent new management and with a new, resident chef, this beautiful old pub is an excellent venue to take advantage of great beer and a superb English menu. We went for Sunday lunch and had a sitting at 2.30pm. There was one at 12.30pm but it was already full so it is well worth booking ahead. I think they may introduce a later sitting due to demand. The quality of the carvery was excellent - perfectly cooked sirloin of beef or honey roasted pork with all the trimmings available at a good price and the dessert menu was worth leaving some space for (the sticky toffee pudding was very good). The wine list was good too and we had a really nice Argentinian Malbec with lunch. As far as I can see the pub will go from strength to strength under the new management; the open real fires create a wonderful atmosphere in Autumn (and Winter) and there is a very large garden which will come into its own in the Summer. We are going back in a couple of weeks to sample the evening menu during the week - took a quick peek and it looks very appetizing. Worth a visit definitely.
