No longer a pub/restaurant we booked the venue for our daughters UK wedding celebration Absolutely brilliant event. The facilities were just what was needed and this was made even better by the lovely people who ran the venue They literally couldnt do enough for us despite it being a long day for them. The right size rooms, a lovely bar and great outside area. And when we returned in the morning to take our decorations and lights down, we were greeted with them already taken down and ready for us to take away A fantastic venue made all the better by the amazing staff team Thank you

Our friends daughter and her newly wedded husband decided to hold an after-wedding party for family and friends at the Red Lion and hired the place for their exclusive use.As the weather played nice the large terrace was fully packed until late evening.Perfectly tapped beers and ales, great GTs, bubbly and whatever soft drinks were asked for, served by the friendly staff.A decent bar food buffet was laid out to provide a good base for the drinks and the dancing.Enough space even for a 5 piece life band to rock the party!Great location, great service team!

We stopped here as the other village pub was full. I had a lovely light mezze and my partner had the roast. This was so well presented, with the meat on a wooden board and the gravy in its own little jug. The fresh veg was served in small ramekins which was delightful. The roasted carrots and parsnips were cooked to perfection. The only downside with the Red Lion is that it is not open all hours. It has peculiar opening times and doesn't serve food all the time which is a shame as we would defo make it a regular stop.

When we arrived at the Red Lion, we couldn’t tell if it was open or not as the front lacked indicators. After investigating further we found it was open and was serving Sunday lunch. Hoorah! The menu options were ultra minimal and the sharing concept for every course was unusual. I thought the prices were expensive. However, the food was a very good standard and the service was great. The place was nicely refurbished. Strikingly, the entire place was empty whilst we were there, so despite all that was good, something is amiss. I hope the owners identify what it is.

She let me sample the real ale before making my decision. It was very relaxed, quiet but the food was beautiful.I had a cauliflower veloute with a blue cheese & chive scone to start followed by the haddock and chips. We were so pleased to find the Red Lion - having driven past we thought it looked inviting and decided to eat there on a Friday evening. Walking in, we were immediately impressed by the very stylish, modern rustic decor, and the open fire. Bar service was friendly and attentive, with a nice selection of wines and craft beers. A look at the menu told us this was something a little more special than the usual pub fare in the area, and when the food came out both of us were seriously impressed - quality, seasonal ingredients, well presented. My partner loved his hoisin duck spring roll starter, and a hefty steak, while I enjoyed deliciously light salmon fish cakes then a very colourful warm winter salad. We are not big dessert people usually, but we enjoyed a sweet course here, with a particular highlight being the trio of delicately flavoured icecreams. We will be back for the cheeseboard! Service was faultless throughout, even taking care to bring extras as I had misread the menu. With quality like this you expect to pay a premium, but we were pleasantly surprised by the final bill - this place is definitely competitive in the local area. Thoroughly recommended and we will be back!

I went with my wife and daughter to the Red Lion recently as a result of seeing it advertised in a local free magazine in Baldock, where our daughter lives. We hadn't been there before so we were very interested in seeing what it was like. Although we had booked a table, we didn't need to as the restaurant wasn't busy. It was a Wednesday evening so not really surprising. I suspect the atmosphere will be somewhat better at busier times such as Friday and Saturday evenings. What was surprising was how good the food and service was. The food was beautifully cooked and presented (as I've noted before, you don't need pile it high plates to have a good meal), as good as any we've had. Weston is a beautiful village and it is a real treat to go there and eat in this wonderful restaurant. The pub changed hands eight months ago and the new owner has changed the emphasis from a drinking pub with a small dining room to one that still caters for drinkers but has a much larger dining area. If the quality of the food and service continues to be this good, I can see that we will be back many times.

Chose a quiet Sunday afternoon to visit the Red Lion, excited to see how the place had been transformed after it reopened last year. Unfortunately, it feels like it only opened yesterday, and the staff are still trying to find their feet.Upon arriving, the startled waitress took some prompting to set us a table and find some menus, and the slightly grumpy manager got us some drinks whilst we waited. The food was okay, not dazzling, and disappointing for the price. Pork Belly was nice, Roast Beef was nothing special. Considering there were only two other tables occupied when we arrived, service was slow and inattentive.I'm not sure what the new Red Lion is trying to be; part coffee shop, part restaurant, part pub? I may come back to try the afternoon tea or a beer outside, as I can see lighter bites and drinks being a more suitable visit, but would not return for lunch or dinner.

Came here last week for lunch. Had never heard of the red lion before but my sister found it online and it was a nice half way point for us to meet. The restaurant itself is small but lovely and clean with modern decor. They have two menus on at lunch time, a two or three course fixed price menu or the sandwiches and lighter bites. We both ate from the light lunch menu, I had the ceasar salad which was great and came with a whole chicken breast on top and my sister had the blue cheese & black pudding salad which she really enjoyed. For £10 each the portion sizes were very generous and the food quality excellent. We then shared an eton mess for dessert which also very good. Can't fault anything about the red lion, the food and service were both spot on and we're both looking forward to returning. The owner mentioned that he is redesigning the outside space and getting some new rattan furniture out there so hopefully it will be nice and sunny on our next visit and we can enjoy our meals outside.

Recently discovered the red lion in Weston and all I can say is wow!!! . First came in for dinner with my wife & in laws and have since been back for their afternoon tea. It is a small independently owned gastro pub and the owner and his team are very friendly and attentive and although the pub was quite quiet when we came for dinner the overall vibe seemed calm and relaxed. The menu variety is small however everything is cooked fresh to order and the chef was very accommodating on our first visit with my sister in law who is a very picky eater and a vegetarian to create a lovely vegetable linguine for her. The quality of the food is outstanding especially the pork belly which me and my wife both had and loved. We decided to come back the following weekend for afternoon tea and again all I can say is wow. Definitely one of the best cream teas I've ever had, the scones especially were phenomenal. Great value too as the portions were huge , we had to ask for half of it to be wrapped up to take home! Will be back soon!

Be prepared as this is exceptionally limited, of which two items had already sold out (we arrived at 7pm!) No second round of drinks offered, unless you wanted to go to the bar yourself and get them. We were offered complimentary bread and olive oil due to the pork belly taking longer to cook than the chef anticipated. Food arrived and was average to say the least, considering the price. Restaurant looks stylish but had very little atmosphere, possibly because there were only three tables occupied when we arrived. We sat at the fireplace end and it seemed a bit dingy despite the high tech led lighting. It might be worth considering something to light up the fireplace when there isn't a fire litService was good and our questions about the dishes were answered without hesitation. I don't think the menu contained any of the dishes from the online example which suggests they are rotated regularly which is good but not so good if you don't fancy any of the 4 starters but did fancy the ones on the example menu. The black pudding under the pigeon was very good, the mussels were appreciated as well. The main courses were all cooked well and the ingredients seemed fine but the chicken looked very anaemic, possibly due to the led lighting, and 3 of us agreed that our meals (all different) were a bit lacking in taste. There were no condiments on the table. The main with chorizo was considered tasty thoughWhen it came to dessert we felt the choice was very limited. Sticky toffee pudding, ice cream scoops or something else that I have forgotten so we decided to finish and return home3 starters, 4 mains and a bottle of wine came to £114 which we thought didn't represent particularly good value hence the average rating

A friend and I wandered up to the Red Lion in search of lunch last Saturday. We were given the usual friendly welcome by the hardworking team. We opted for the lunchtime Prix Fixe Menu. Our chosen starter was a very tasty Parma Ham, Black Pudding and Poached Egg combo, followed by a main course of sirloin steak with Chips. The steak requested Medium was cooked to perfection with just a faint run of pink through the middle to which the knife fell through. Dessert to finish was a simple Bread and Butter presented in a small iron pot with a side of Vanilla bean ice cream. My experience of this dessert in most restaurants has been fairly poor as quite often it is created with too much of an 'eggy' texture. However the dish here in my opinion is exceptional with large chunks of bread soaked in a lovely creamy base. The Red Lion regularly stocks a wide range of ever changing quality beers, the atmosphere is always very relaxed and welcoming, and the pub itself has been modernised very tastefully whilst retaining lots of original features. Steve the manager takes a lot of pride in the Red Lion and his team and is always around to chat and seek feedback. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

This pub has recently re-opened after being closed for some time. Now completely re-furbished with minimalist tabes and chairs, in the style of a French bistro, my friend and I visited for a Friday lunch. I have to say I do not recognise the comments of the previous reviewer and feel they could have justified them in more detail rather than generalising. My friend ate off the light lunch menu and had the salmon and prawn risotto which came as a good size plate of food which she said was delicious. It looked nice and moist too. I ate off the prix fixe menu and had the most wonderful tempura prawns to start, followed by steak and chips which was also excellent - the steak was cooked just how I like it. We were the only people in the pub which did make it very quiet - perhaps a little background music would make for a better atmosphere? I really wish them every success here and will definitely return.

It is always disappointing when a village pub closes, like the Red Lion in Weston, but I was pleased to discover that this one has been reprieved and has now reopened with a complete make-over and with a new enthusiastic team. I and five friends reserved a table for dinner without having any idea what was in store for us. In the past this pub could best be described as serving good 'pub grub' in faded 'brewers Tudor' style surroundings but what a transformation - the decoration has a modern twist sympathetic to this historic building with new comfortable furniture and it now has an up-to-date menu of well-cooked and presented dishes. We decided to go straight for 'mains' which ranged from a caramelised red onion and goats cheese flatbread pizza at £10 to a twice cooked roast pork belly, sauté baby veg and apple velouté at £18 with three of us having the smoked bacon loin with mushy peas, a fried duck egg and chips at £14 and one having the duck breast with sweet potato mash, braised red cabbage and redcurrant jus at £16 - all very tasty, looking appetising and made from good quality ingredients. Two found room for apple and pear crumble and one had a zesty lemon tart, all at £6; the other three had another drink! The manager was very welcoming and invited critical comment about food and service. The young ladies who served the food were friendly, efficient and attentive. On the whole we had no critical comments - one or two thought the prices were a pound or two high for the 'mains' and the one who had the pork belly craved for more veg so the three who had chips shared them with him - this caused us to give only 4 out of 5 for value. Also, the bar area is only adequate with a few stools for seating - another 4 out of 5. However, we can thoroughly recommend their efforts and hope others will give their support to ensure this attractive village retains its local pub.

Very overpriced. The barman who obviously didn't gave a clue asked me if I wanted a pint glass for my double vodka and coke. How do these places survive?
