I see I reviewed this in June 2022, we were there tonight, and had to decline the food on offer. A generous portion of meat, that ok, but the veg was just beyond anything I expect in a restaurant. Roast potatoes in fat, so hard my wife's shot off the knife onto the floor. I couldn't even split mine using the knife and fork provided. Just not strong enough. Cooked to death and a burnt skin showing they must have been there hours. A concoction of potato and carrot which we bypassed and onto some sorry looking peas. My wife took some cauliflower which was cold when she tried it. So bad we left. I felt sorry for the young waitress who agreed with us. The drinks we had ordered hadn't arrived either so all in all a very poor show. We went up the road fifteen miles away to another carvery for a good roast and drink that was £3 cheaper overall than the Robin Hood would have been.

Living locally the Robin Hood has always been a bit hit or miss in quality. Went tonight at about 1730 and had a really hot and tasty carvery washed down by a pint of beer. Fresh throughout and a fairly generous portion of meat. We never have the puddings so can't say about those. All in all - not bad. You have to sign your car into the car parking which was clearly displayed on the entrance and on the machine inside the foyer so no excuses.

Oh god. What has happened. Grumpy German bloke on carvery. If people can't be bothered to come down, give them the dried meat. I think he also may have been drinking in his break. Soo rude. Vegetables are no way like they used to be. Seems like they invent stuff to use it up. Got to the puddings and it was easier to ask what they didn't have. Probably blame it on covid but it's not hard to make a crumble. Come on. Not really a cheap roast dinner but at least step up the quality

This is a restaurant we have been using for a number of years the food itself is not bad,the service is excellent it just a shame the bar staff are naff. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT!! I was served tonight a flat pint of ale when I personally went to the bar to get it changed the barchild (barely out of nappy’s) went downstairs to the cellar to investigate after a bit of noise came back and could not find anything wrong. When I pointed out there was no nozzle on the beer tap he said it doesn’t need one even when it is obviously missing (screw thread exposed). PLEASE TRAIN YOUR STAFF IN THE ART OF BEING A BARMAN.

Went to the Robinhood Toby Carvery today for lunch with my brother and Mother today. Was advised the two vegan meals we ordered would take 10-15 minutes. We waited 15 minutes and got my Mum the carvery because we expected the other two meals to arrive any minute. 35 minutes after ordering one of the meals arrived, 10 minutes later the other one arrived. No communication or apologies for the delay. When we told them this was poor they said that they would let the kitchen know! This was terrible service, and my meal was not worth the wait. A very disappointing experience that I won't be repeating. We are a big family so enjoy finding a good family restaurant, but I won't be bringing my family here again sadly.

Arriving around 15.45hrs, it was not busy I now know why The worst experiance at any Toby; and it has to be said is innovative DRY ROASTED (as in peanuts) with hues of color ranging from fawn to black skins, as usual cold plates upon wich to plate the warm food. The macaroni cheese was so hard it might as well not been cooked, The green beans looked delicious but without flavour. Satuday's & Sundays used to be Horseraddish Gravy Days, not any more. The Swede slices looked cooked but again was so dry on attempting to cut flew off the plate. Macaroni cheese was replaced at time of helping yourself & was good. Two minutes earlier there was an empty dried dish. The dauphanise pototoes what was left were drying up but tasted A.O.K. Yorkshire pud, the small and one only tasted like a small yorkshire pud. Carrots and garden peas a plenty perhaps the best veggie available. The mashed potatoe was A.O.K.but seemed to lack the usual creamyness. at £7.99 extortionate you can do a lot better going to Subway. Just don't go there.

Have been here before .sadly the only place that u can get a calvery meal in the evening and was not impressed with the quality of the meal. As before the meat is very hit and miss..either undercooked or dried up.tonite would have liked pork but there was just a very dried up end piece of joint available I asked if there was any other available was told no not for 30 mins...so I opted for the beef, new joint and it was carved off the end of joint, looked OK but when trying to cut it on my plate could not get the knife through it let alone chew it. I told the waitress it was tough as old boots she said srry and could she get me some more, I said is it off same joint she said yes so hmm no point having more shoe leather on my plate.. The brocoli was hard undercooked and this is always a prob here. Roast potatoes look nice but when u eat them they have no flavour whatsoever.. And this is the same problem on our previous visit we found the veg either undercooked and can't get knife through it or the veg soggy and tired looking.and don't even start me on the gravy.why is it always thin and watery and runs off ur plate if your not careful ?. maybe its more economical for u if thin it will go further..so please tell me what is the problem here.roast dinner should be full of flavour, tasty and enjoyable but sadly u won't find this here.. Deffo not value for ur money.

Perhaps this bit of Toby advertising refers to the excellent Yorkshire puddings. Unfortunately it is not true of the roast potatoes which were soft, partially tanned and nothing like those described in the menu boards as golden and crispy. There was not one crispy bit on the ones I chose as looking the most cooked. My impression of the chefs was not helped when I saw one of them drop a serving spoon on the floor in the servery, pick it up and toss it onto a shelf with many others. Then I saw him setting out the same lot of spoons ready for use. It's a shame this excellent value for money formula has been allowed to slip; I have complained three times about the roasties and hoped for an improvement but no joy. There will not be a fourth. hopeful visit. Reading Toby does it better.

Newbury can be a quite expensive place to eat, so if you are looking for value for money and enjoy a carvery, the Robin Hood is worth visiting. It's part of the Toby Carvery chain, and as such has four roasts that are carved for customers, and 8 vegetable dishes that are self service. On a busy Friday the restaurant was fully booked, but I was able to eat in the bar instead, carrying my plate round from the main serving area. (There's also a limited bar menu, mainly built round the same roast meats.) The vegetables were good - generally not soggy and overcooked (the cabbage was possibly the best I have had in a carvery), perhaps helped by being so busy, so kept fresh. The only nod to Newbury prices is that it's 30p more than my local Toby carvery.Access is easy from the A34 Southbound - just take the A338 old road into Newbury, and it's on the left at the first roundabout/lights. This makes it a useful stopover if travelling South from the Midlands, and much better value than using something like Chieveley services.

This is the place to go if you want to see just how much food people can actually get on their plate. Whilst I enjoy a healthy appetite I find that I am amazed to see people coming away from the carvery with plates of food piled so high its intriguing to know if they are going to"eat it or climb it?" Still for £6.30 per head its great value for money even if the meat is all a bit tasteless and the "Yorkshire Puddings" are really giant choux buns. Places like this serve a very useful reminder to show that you can still have a hearty meal at a reasonable price even including a drink.

I have eaten at this restaurant on many occasions in the last few years. The food was perfect for the occasion, but small things spoilt the ambience of the day. One family member's cutlery was not checked when the table was laid and was found to be dirty even though it had been washed. One of the staff was acting as front of house and walking around in an apron which was very stained and looked frankly terrible. Surely there must be other spare aprons? If not,the management need to purchase some. The standards are slipping which is a shame because this has also been a great place to eat. Apart from these small issues, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the rest of the property was clean. Although it is looking in need of a refurb. We will try again and if the small standards remain unchecked we will not eat there again.

Considering this was our first visit for breakfast we were expecting much better as we have eaten there several times before for the evening carvery. The bacon was so salty that I had to drink a pint of water when I returned home. The sausages contained very little meat and were soggy in the middle. The fried eggs were rubber like throughout and the grilled tomatoes were burnt on one side. When I opened the butter pack to spread on my toast it poured out in a liquid state. I then tried a mug of filter coffee to find it too was of a very poor quality with a bitter aftertaste so I moved on to try a mug of tea as I was so thirsty after the salty bacon to find that the hot water dispenser was not up to the temperature required to brew the tea bag and was only warm with only a drop of milk added. We were presented with the bill and it was only after payment were we asked if all was well. When we said no, the manager was summoned and after our deliberations above he tried for himself the sausage and bacon and agreed with our findings. He refunded the cost in full and said that he would be contacting the supplyers and that our complaint was similar to another he had received that morning. All in all the manager did all he could with damage limitation but we will not be returning there for breakfast for quite some time. Let's see if they act upon the advice we gave. You have been warned!

Visited yesterday (Saturday) as part of two families. We have eaten here on a number of occasions and whilst the service won't blow you away, the food is, on the whole, fine. Visiting on a Sunday tends to lead to a long wait to be seated which is why we either go mid-week or on a Saturday. Much better value if you can get a voucher which they often advertise. However you can return for as much veg as you like and the fizzy drinks have a refill station. They revamped the entrance a while back but they really could do with smartening up the interior with some lighter paint/decor as it can be on the gloomy side on a cloudy day but that's only my opinion!

We used a 2 carveries for £10 voucher from the Toby website. Seated quickly and invited to the carvery. No queue which was unusual ( we went latish on a Saturay evening) but the food still seemed fresh and OK. Food was as expected. Didn't try the puddiings. Service was fair but not brilliant. OK for a english type meal at the price of an indian.

This a Toby Carvery. This place most certainly doesn't Live up to the Toby brand. The service was so bad that if I could have rated it a zero I would have. On arrival I waited nearly ten minutes before anyone even spoken to me. Once seated again waited ages for someone to take an order. After finishing and wanting to order desserts... And again waiting ages the order was taken... However the used plates weren't even cleared. The order arrived well 2 of items did... Then another item 10 minutes later... The last item never did arrive. Oh yes and don't go if it's raining the roof leaks and an umbrella might be neededGo there at your own peril

Pub well set out with information and staff welcoming. Choice of indoor or outdoor seating. All ordering can be done from your table, and delivered quickly. A good experience. Visited again recently and had a good meal.

Met with family for a lunch on Sunday rather than a Sunday lunch. Absolutely fine, good selection of dishes and after a bit of a wait it all arrived, hot and tasty. No complaints and staff very friendly and helpful. We’ve been coming here for years as it is a convenient location sort of midway between London, Bristol and Andover and we will continue to be patrons. Only thing to watch is to be sure to register your vehicle at the console in reception if you park in their car park. We did that of course but the ghastly Britannia Parking people, who manage the process for the hotel, despite my son and I both registering our vehicles, sent me a £100 fine-he didn’t get one. The Bear staff cancelled it on my calling them but they did admit that the system was always going wrong and many customers had to call to get their fines cancelled. Why do hotels put up with such bad experiences for their customers? You have been warned!

A Christmas gathering for ten. Very disappointing turkey meal, small portion and dry turkey, although starter and dessert was ok. In spite of pre-ordering one dessert was unavailable. No napkins or condiments on the table, no wine list offered and service from main server was unfriendly and unprofessional. She informed us at 10.00pm she was closing at 10.30pm. No Christmas spirit or atmosphere. Would not recommend
