Roast Coffee Shop in Selby

On planning a trip to Pickering in Yorkshire I fitted in a break for lunch about 50 miles away from our destination and trip advisor results came up with this place at Tadcaster and what a gem of a cafe,I’d go as far to say if I could move this cafe brick by brick to stoke on trent I would. The food and pippa and her staff are devine with a fantastic choice for every taste,and also brilliant value for money,I rang pippa in the morning to say we were coming and asked if I could reserve a table and glad we bid because the locals must think the same as us “incredible”. So thanks pippa and will see you again when up this way

Fabulous breakfast!!! The food was absolutely delicious and the drinks were lovely. We were made to feel incredibly welcome and the staff were so nice.

5 of us attended a bit worse for wear. Seated quickly by nice staff. All the food was prepared well, filling and great value. Will return!

Fantastic atmosphere from entering the place. We hadn’t booked but fortunately we were still able to be given a table. You could tell how popular it was by all the reserved labels prepared for the day. The staff were warm and welcoming and the food top quality.

We always have excellent food and drink at Roast. With an ever-changing specials menu there’s always something new to try! Their bacon sandwiches are second to none, especially the ‘boujee’ bacon sandwich when it’s on the menu. It’s something we look forward to when it comes to Christmas-time. Great for coffee, too: the best mint mocha for miles! Dog friendly, which is a huge plus for us.

5 of us had a cracking lunch at Roast. The chicken Burgers were amazing, as was the avo on toast. The coffee is always of a very high quality and the cakes are hard to resist! Service also bang on, great work team Roast, many thanks for having us!

Here is my honest opinion about this friendly, welcoming and lovely coffee shop/bistro!! I’ve had the fortune and opportunity to go this lovely place for more than just daily food but the night time tasting evenings that they do hold and I have say they are second to none!! Food is amazingly good and delicious and fresh and the ambience of the whole place is just in addition to the whole team here at Roast who make it work time & time again!! Their weekly specials are always good and we’ve had their newest one today which was the Bacon Naan!! Omg what can I say about this except total taste sensation and perfection in one!! 20 out of 10 every time!! Well done to Team Roast, this is all down to everyone’s hard work and commitment and determination that is so inviting to come and sample your menu

Delicious food & coffee with perfect service. I can see why Roast is busy. We were on our way to York Outlet and found Roast online for somewhere to stop for breakfast. I would drive here just for breakfast in the future but will definitely book to guarantee a table… we were lucky calling in on the off chance but I recommend you don’t risk missing out and book. Great place for a very tasty breakfast and coffee. We sat outside on the lovely patio/terrace. Very friendly team, the bacon sandwich and sausage sandwiches were the best we’ve ever tasted. The bread was so fresh and the bacon cooked to perfection. Would certainly recommend Roast as the number one place to eat in the area. Very clean also. Just go and try it

Amazing place, food is wonderful & so are the staff. Best coffee & deserts by far and the main course specials were fantastic. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, always a warm & friendly welcome & atmosphere.

Just popped in and ordered a bacon sandwich and a coffee to take out. Was shocked when I was charged £10.45. It's a tack out snack. Yes they were tasty and the coffee shop looked very posh, but really you shouldn't be charged the same for takeaway as sitting in. Most expensive snack I've ever had. Ordered 2 full sit in breakfasts with toast and a cups of tea last week in York. This shop is too expensive for the regular working person.

I'm very lucky as this place is local and quite honestly it's hard to beat for miles. Gorgeous food, really great quality and the cakes (my personal fave) are just *too good*! Nice to sit out when weather lovely, and friendly atmosphere inside. Highly recommend.

I was wanting a buffet for my retirement party which I was having at home. I looked on the website and read that Roast do buffets. I emailed Chris/Pippa re what I was wanting and they replied quickly, we worked together re what I wanted, numbers, my budget and dietary needs, nothing was too much trouble Chris/Pippa were so helpful and when emailing they responded very quickly. the buffet was amazing, so many people commented on how nice it was. so Thank you Chris/Pippa and team for making my retirement party a night to remember and stress free! x Now I'm retired we will be visiting regularly and my friends too!

We have been customers of Roast over the past 2 years both with takeaways during lockdown and our regular lunch visit. The food served is freshly cooked to order and fantastically tasty, along with the delicious breakfasts, sandwiches and their great burgers, there’s always something new to try and the best coffee! We have been regulars at Roast coffee shop since it opened around 3 years ago. It is an absolute gem of a place, run by Chris and Pippa, two amazingly friendly and passionate owners. Chris prides himself in producing high quality food and is visibly dedicated to his role as head chef and owner. Waiting staff, Pip, Jodie and others are all attentive, friendly, smiley and there to help. All are made to feel welcome at Roast. Over the years, the menu has changed and they did an incredible job adapting during lockdowns and the difficult times of the past two years. I take my hat off to them for the top service in which they provide.The coffee is first rate and the burgers to die for! I have eaten a lot of burgers and I can honestly say that the ones at Roast are the best I've ever had. Our boys love a visit to Roast, often seen as a treat; they cater so well for children and make them feel as welcome as anyone else. This is particularly important for me as so many cafes and restaurants can make life difficult when you have kids. They are also dog friendly! I highly recommend a visit to Roast and take many friends and family there who always love it too.

I've eaten at Roast many many times, and every single time has been fantastic - the burgers, the club sandwich, the special Reuben, all absolute belters, but then the Katsu curry came along..... easily the best Katsu curry I've eaten, period! Had to then leave quickly as the cakes started calling my name! :-)Love this place and proud to call myself a regular...

After a trip to York wanted a full english breakfast on way home - landed at this place snd on arrival thought we couldn't get a table, but the young lady at the door quickly found us one as another couple left. Really cheery staff and trendy decor. I ordered the ‘Hearty’ and my wife got the creamy mushrooms. Both were great and the hearty name was a bit of an understatement - a proper filling meal. The creamy mushrooms were stunning and looked like the pics on the places facebook page. Lovely place and will be back! Ella our waitress was so polite & helpful.

Nice place on the outside and on the inside. Friendly staff. Breakfast is greasy quality of the food isn't very good, very over priced. Also seeing a chef come out in hoody with no hat on isn't very professional.

I ended up popping into this cafe as I was getting my motorcycle serviced in Tadcaster. What a gem this cafe is! The atmosphere is second to none, the staff are really welcoming and can’t do enough for you, and the food/drinks are really really tasty. If this cafe was on my doorstep I would be in there everyday. It is literally the best cafe I have ever been in.

Planned on an all day breakfast and went for it - it was beaut!Couldn’t really fit a dessert in but I treated myself to one anyway - chose the Spotty Lemon which was a magnificent cheesecake which did not disappoint!!Also polished off 2 flat whites & took a Cray Bake home for late afters. Great place to drop into - went in on my own this time & did not feel at all out of place - staff are lovely, always smiling, nothing is too much trouble. Definitely recommended

Saw the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor so sought out Roast. It is not in the centre of Tadcaster, but on the way to Stutton and with parking nose-on immediately in front of the restaurant. We were warmly greeted and amazed to find out how busy it was, with customers even sitting outside.Our breakfasts were freshly-cooked and served hot. Portions were huge, but we managed to eat the lot, not needing anything else until late that night. If in the area we would certainly visit again. It is something special.

Excellent breakfast this morning at Pippa and Chris’ roast coffee shop. The Yorkshire breakfast looked delicious and was all home cooked perfectly with good quality products. The salmon Benedict was delicious too. Coffee is very yummy too and a proper barista one! Our son was very excited with his sausage sandwich and beans on the side! He also got a hash brown as extra and was delighted.Very friendly atmosphere, staff was lovely, toilets were cleaned and they have baby changing facilities too!If you are in Tadcaster, this is the place to go!

From the moment we walked in we had a warm welcome by a youngish lad working behind the counter. He thought straight on his feet asking if we needed anything for our older daughter and then a highchair for our baby, we were instantly impressed by the initial customer service. He soon very quickly came over with menus and kept glancing over ready to take our drinks order. Once the drinks arrived (proper barista coffee btw) asking if we were ready to order food. This arrived promptly and was of high quality. Throughout our visit All the staff engaged with us and our children despite the place being busy, a really nice touch. During the end of our visit the chef (now know he is co-owner) introduced himself asking if we had a pleasant stay, again very nice and personable. Our eldest took to him as he magically produced a lolly pop!! Highly recommended if you've not visited before. Can't fault the place. A very well oiled machine, no wonder they are making a success of it

Heading for Whitby from Stamford and fancied a coffee, Googled "the best coffee" and found Roast in Tadcaster, Sat outside and had superb coffee and Bacon, Brie and cranberry hot sandwich.We were so impressed with the welcome and quality we booked for the following Saturday so that we could have a late breakfast on the way homeSuffice to say it was if possible even better, beautiful creamy mushrooms on Sourdough with bacon. There were 4 Sausage rolls on the counter that looked so good we took them home.Can't praise "Roast" highly enough We will be back

My wife and I stopped for lunch here on our way to York as I had read the excellent reviews it receives from customers. We were certainly not disappointed and enjoyed our scrumptious paninis at a table in the outside seating area before moving inside for a delicious coffee. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent. Hopefully one day we'll call again. I'm just sorry that we don't live nearby so we can sample more food from their imaginative menu.

As a member of a travelling cricket team, I was a little nervous booking here for brunch from what I could glean online - though I was reassured by and appreciative of the prompt and helpful email communications from Pippa. Needn't have worried. Food was excellent and plentiful with fantastic friendly service. We were lucky to have lovely weather for our veranda meal - felt very continental! When there were three late unexpected arrivals to our already large booking of eleven, the staff took it all in their stride. A great start to the day.

Roast has been incredible over the last 18 months off the pandemic. Delivery/Take away & finally being able to visit & dine there, the food has always been of a fabulous standard. Chris, Pippa & team really are the real deal in delivering a beautiful dining experience, whether it being a breakfast chiabata sandwich or a Tapas evening . Keep doing your thing Team Roast.

Absolutely love the Roast… regular client… great good and drink and lovely, lovely people. A mid morning mushrooms on sourdough toast, an afternoon Prosecco on the terrace, an evening Tapas night…. What’s not to love!

Great atmosphere that was accompanied by Great food, wine and service.Been a good few times and always gets better. You are put at ease as you relax into the evening of over indulgence of food and wine that tickles the taste buds and just keeps appearing. This is a little gem of a restaurant well worth a visit for breakfast lunch or dinner. Fabulous food and service. They did take outs whilst lock down was on and the food was restaurant quality then too.

I’ve had food from the Roast many times and I’ve never been disappointed, I wouldn’t go anywhere else in Tadcaster for food. Everything I’ve had has been 10/10 from the milkshakes to the Sunday dinners! I would definitely recommend.

Absolutely unbelievable burgers tonight from the roast. Nachos to start followed by two mid west burgers. Couldn’t of asked for any better. Amazing food from the guys at Roast. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait for the next visit/take out.

Highly recommend this please to eat. The food is of such a high standard it’s such a hidden gem. We ordered a take out Sunday lunch and the portion size was great but even better was the taste. Whoever the chef is they really know what they’re doing in this place!

This little family run coffee shop has so many positive aspects. The food is beautiful and always presented lovely. And the new milkshakes are yummy!! The staff are polite and welcoming too. They seem to have put all the safety measures in to protect us from COVID which makes it a more comfortable place to visit. Highly recommended to anyone passing by!

Having been to The Roast a number of times and recently for a takeaway, I would highly recommend it. The owners are amazing and they have the best team working there. From breakfast to burgers to cakes, everything is gorgeous. It is definitely worth a visit without a doubt.

Beautiful little stylish cafe bistro. Mr & Mrs Roast were extremely kind, serving complimentary coffee after we became stranded, for yonks, while waiting for breakdown recovery. The sausage and bacon sandwiches...simply delicious. We’ll be back to sample more when life returns to something more normal and when the RAC eventually turn up.

Having just moved to Tadcaster, we've been looking forward to trying Roast. The burgers are absolutely fantastic. Had to have them as a take out because of covid restrictions. Can't wait until it's open to dine in. We would definitely recommend.

Tucked away from the main town in a small row of shops, I found this super little cafe through trip advisor. Lovely outdoor seating area as well as inside. Very welcoming staff and gorgeous food. High quality ingredients. Lovely coffee & yorkshire tea. Will definitely return

We were worried if ROAST would have survived the difficult times of COVID-19 and were thrilled to not only find them open but with new outdoor seating arrangements. The food and service were excellent as always and we were pleased to see them doing so well while maintaining good hygiene during service. The extra seating on the deck outside is a clever use of the space that could not be used for any other purpose. Ingenious !

It was my daughters 21st during lockdown and we wanted to do something different but safe to celebrate. Roast had just started doing take away and delivery services so I rang up ordered , picked a time slot and paid. A very smooth easy process made all the better by happy positive staff. On the big day food was delivered piping hot and bang on time rounded off with a big smile from Pippa . I can’t fault the service quality and the positive attitude of team roasts staff during this unusual time. You’re all fabulous keep up the good work , Rona can’t stop Roast see you soon

During lockdown Roast have gone that extra mile to still provide customers with the amazing food and service we’ve all been spoilt by. The takeaway burgers have been awesome. Can’t wait to get back for a sit down meal and enjoy the friendly atmosphere....and a few drinks.

We have visited Roast a few times before lockdown and always had a fantastic evening with amazing food. Our Friday night takeaway delivery was just as amazing, 2 starters, 4 different burgers with sides - all 5* food with 5* service, enjoyed every bit. Would recommend this fantastic place to anyone.

My husband is a big Burger lover and has sampled many a burger in his time! Today he collected a Burger topped with bacon and cheese, served with chips, onions rings and coleslaw. My husband has a big appetite! He declared the burger the best he has ever tasted. I have to admit I am very fussy with meat but did try his burger...it was excellent and I would not hesitate in eating one. We have previously stopped off here when cycling and the bacon sandwiches are just as good. I don’t drink coffee but again husband stated coffee was really good (Grumpy Mule). I had tea which was very good quality, none of the weak tasting tea that some places serve! If you appreciate good quality and good portion sizes, this is the place for you!

We ordered some burgers for delivery and they were absolutely fantastic, genuinely some of the best burgers we have ever eaten! The ordering process was quick and easy and the burgers arrived bang on time. Staff were very friendly too. We will definitely be going back!

Went for a lunch with Husband and three daughters and our infant granddaughter. Lovely staff who were most helpful. Extra seating available for car seat so it didn't need to be put on the floor, we were also offered a high chair.A good menu with lots of choice for all the family and when we asked any questions about the food our waitress was more than happy to explain how spicy etc meals were. She was an absolute delight and a credit to Roast.We all chose different meals and they were all brought out at the same time, piping hot and very tasty.All in all it was a very enjoyable lunch, very good quality food cooked and served to a high standard. the owner / chef Chris frequently came out to greet customers and see everything was okay, lovely touch. We will definitely return.

Incredible incredible service, delicious food, fab decor and lovely menu. I had an omelette with cheese and mushrooms which was surprisingly decedent! The waffles are epic as is the red velvet cake. Coffee is delicious- can’t recommend more highly

What can I say other than Brilliant! Had the full breakfast and my girlfriend had the mushrooms on toast and the quality was better than anything we have had in the local area. Food was good, staff were friendly and we couldn't ask for anything more.

Instead of a premier inn breakfast we came here and what a find. Hearty Yorkshire breakfast was exactly that, all the food was great quality and really well cooked. Owners are friendly doesn’t get get much better than this.

Went to Roast with my wife and daughter last week and had the steak sandwich which was fantastic. Have been here a number of times and am never disappointed. As expected, the coffee was exceptional with hot milk available. The atmosphere is very friendly and with a "hello" as soon as you enter which is sometimes lacking in other places. Roast have put a lot of thought into the decor and menu putting Tadcaster firmly on the map for great places to eat. A very social but relaxing place too so always busy. Noticed they serve alcohol and hold regular themed evenings too. Will definitely be back!

Early morning, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, catch up over a cuppa and cake... the welcome, service and quality of the food is the same whatever time of day you are lucky enough to drop by Roast. Nothing is too much trouble - love the place and the 'staff' (hate to call them that, they are friends who feed me and put a smile on my face!). Booked in again for a birthday treat. Top notch!

Ace place for everything! Excellent coffee and a great range of meals and smaller bites - their themed evenings are legendary, and all in walking distance of home what’s not to like . Booking generally advisable as they are very popular, and with good cause ! My second home ( along with quite a few others.........)

Me and my family have enjoyed coming here on a regular basis since it first opened indulging in this high class bistro style Cafe which has proved to be a shot in the arm for this town and surrounding areas. Very good food with a very good service is the norm here.
