Amazing food. We've often had delivery from here and always been extremely impressed. Tonight, we went for dine in and equally as impressed. One of the best butter chickens we've ever eaten.

Absolutely terrible food, ordered a chicken tikka masala and got given a chicken corma that was cooked from ready made frozen the chefs are clueless also ordered fish tikka that certainly wasn’t tikka but confirmed by waiter that whole menu is from frozen

Went into this restaurant absolutely desperate for the toilet to the point of where I was going to wee myself. Waiter or manager came out and shouted at me customers only. Said I’d buy anything so bought a Coca Cola. Manager spoke to barman in their own language and barman brought out a card machine and tapped in £3.50 (which is nearly three times the amount you’d pay in the shops. Seems like a scam and a deliberate exploitation of their spot on the entrance.. they know lots of Reading festival people want to use their toilets and I wasn’t exactly covered in mud. Dodgy business tactics.

It was a very hot day and evening. Not very busy but the staff were very attentive. Particularly our server Ali, who was friendly, funny and chatty and gave advice on the menu items. Highlights : King Prawn Shashlik and the Salmon Shashlik. Great view onto the river.

Great service and fantastic food

A consistently wonderful Indian restaurant. So exceptional dishes including Ostrich, Venison and Monkfish. Not on the menu but I really recommend an Ostrich Balti or if you're feeling adventurous an Ostrich Naga Balti. Delicious!

Really friendly, welcoming staff - Attentive but discreet. Atmosphere was really good - gentle background music that was not invasive - friendly feel to the restaurant. The food was utterly amazing - Will definitely be returning.

We’ve been going there for the last 10 years and it’s easily the best Indian in Caversham. The food has never disappointed and the service has always been good. The only downside is that it can often be a bit quiet but I’d still highly recommend it to anyone around Caversham.

Went for meal with friends. One friend has a gluten intolerance but very cautious due to staff apparent lack of knowledge of ingredients. It would certainly help if this information was on the menu to take away the guess work. Very slow service on this visit.

Never experienced anything like this, no matter the type of restaurant. So for me this review is about the management not the food. The food is actually ok, fresh and well cooked, however I will not return this place. Being ripped off is not something I take lightly and when the restaurant manager then starts shouting at you when they automatically added over £10 to my bill for a table charge it is why I titled this review a rip off and beware. We were not that hungry so only chose 3 starters for the two of us with quite a few poppadoms. Our bill amounting to over £35 was overlooked when I paid in the early evening, it wasnt until the next day I realised. Oh they also never gave us the reciept. I went back to discuss and recieved abuse and an adamant manager that it was fair for them to chaerge an extra £10 blaming the cost of his table set up and the aftermath of Covid!! He gave us abuse so he got abuse back. There is no mention of a table charge if you do not have a main course so be very carfeul or you will be ripped off too. No, I will definitely not return as there are far better establishments elswhere.

Just had the most amazing Keema Peas and Channa Massala! Never had a bad meal here. Always served by friendly staff. Great location by the river.

I went to River Spice in Reading with my family.. I just wanna say, taking decision to visit the restaurant and having meal it was a wonderful outcome for us .We just mesmerised by the food and circumstances.The service was excellent and all the stuffs are very kind ,friendly and active. However,sitting beside the window and see the view of wonderful river ;it’s cool..Thanks for the team and see you soon ..

We were looking for somewhere for a late meal and came across this little gem. We rang and were met with a friendly welcome and confirmation that a table was available. Curries were delicious. Packed with flavour and plenty of meat in each. The price was very reasonable and the staff were attentive without being intrusive. We live out of the area but would definitely like to have a return visit next time we are here.

Yummy but fairly expensive. The prawns were £8 anlmost and you only get two prawns which I think is pretty pricey. There were 3 items burst in the bag but despite that the food was yummy especially the lamb

We drive 3 hours to eat there and We had a great experience, the food was the best we ever tried, people who served us were nice and helpful with everything we asked for. For sure we will go back as soon as possible. We will remember this for lifetime.

Absaloughtly love riverspice! We come atleast 6/7 times a year and if we want an Indian takeaway we only order from riverspice and it’s always just as good as when we go in and eat. Food is always so nice, service is always good! No complaints

The food was exceptional, the satff were patient, friendly, and polite. My Lamb korma and Mushroom fried rice was the best cooked meal I have had in a very long time. Everything was cooked to perfection. Ruver Spice is now my number 1 restaurant. Will be highly recommending. 5* from me.

I love this place for the environment and certainly for the food. Specially naga chicken is one of my favorites. Last but not the least they have the best starter items. The owner of this restaurant is also decent. Over all it is highly recommended.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and the food is fresh, authentic, with traditional spices. Portions are good, good value for money, and food is served quite timely. The scenery is scenic and calming. Overall, very clean and nice decor. Chicken biryani, chicken tikka and naan was delicious.

Lovely selection of dishes, I would definitely recommend thw special byriani. The food was great having a selection of 6 mains I can say that they were all very good quality. Very good customer service with friendly smiling staff.

Waited 45 min after giving order. Quite noisy and heaps of rubbish in the outside seating area (we wanted to sit near riverside but couldn't). Food was acceptable standards but not authentic Indian at all ... Portions are small ... Butter chicken was very heavy n tight with coconut in gravy... Chicken nazhakat n Tikka were the only saving grace ... No variety in drinks ... Not worth visiting for special occasion...

Had a lovely meal food was just brilliant service very good. For lovers of Indian cant recommend highly enough. Chicken Pasanda is one of the best around.

I decided to try this particular restaurant located on the southeast side of the bridge. If you are driving, you may have to find an alternate place to park since their lot seems a little small. It is a stand-alone building that looks like a converted house. I had noticed it on my walk along the Thames walking path that it is next to. They have seating inside and out. Both offer great views of the Thames across the walking path. The entrance is on the street side, the south side of the building. The inside is very nicely appointed with hardwood-type floors, linen tablecloths, formal chairs, a very pretty ceiling, and large windows looking out on the river. The menu has a wide variety of Indian-style dishes. I tried the Tika Massala, naan, and the pappadom. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food took a little longer than I expected to come out but it was delicious. I would highly recommend this place if you want a beautiful place to take friends to have a great meal in a nice atmosphere. Enjoy!

Visited here on a Saturday evening for a lovely meal - one of most tastiest in a long while. Plenty of choice on the menu, excellent service, very attentive pleasant staff and reasonable prices. Didnt rush you either.

The food was nice and there was plenty of car parking spaces (on a Tuesday night). It was dark outside, so we couldn't see much. It's probably a nice view of the Thames on a sunny day.

Over 1 hour to get starters, main course not yet received after hour an a half, no apologies food quality poor

Left waiting for a table for 20 min although we had booked, service very slow, only had mains, didn’t bother asking for dessert or coffee would have taken us pass midnight !! Food was ok. Toilets need a good clean!! Then they have the cheek to add service charge on already overpriced bill . Only good thing was location by river.

Make sure you check your bill we were massively over charged for a party of 6.Food was average and small portions. Vegetable bhuna poor. Ordered spinach with paneer served spinach with potatoes Waiting staff surly had to ask for cutlery and open our own wine. Not attentive at all despite not being busy. Would not recommend

Really enjoyed having a curry with such a beautiful view alongside the river. Very reasonably priced with a set menu of starter, side, main and rice for £12.95 (not sure if this is on certain days but we went on Sunday!) And the drinks weren't too pricey either which led to us ordering more than we would have done normally! Friendly, smiley waiter, great service. We will go again 😄

Food is really good. Been frequenting this restaurant for a number of years and recently (the last 2 year's maybe) a member of the serving team we found very abrupt..but did the job and everything was ok. Tonight on a night out with friends, we had a good meal and asked for the bill. Our bill turned up and it was alot more than expected so we added it up and we'd been overcharged by nearly £15. I said this to the waiter in my normal quiet speaking voice, and he kept saying calm down, we all make mistakes we are only human, calm down, calm down!! I was very calm and didnt raise my voice at all and tried to explain what I meant and he kept talking over me then walked off and did the bill again. We'd been overcharged on drinks. There was no apology for the mistake just his defensive attitude and the repetitive "calm down, we're only human" I used to be in the catering industry and you do not ever speak to customers like that. Won't be going back.

Worst indian restaurant i ever have been to..I had a terrible experience at River Spice Reading . The food was not tasty at all, it was just too spicy with no flavour to it. They simply put chilli powder into every curry after preparation and I wasn't even sure if the chicken was fully cooked or not. I felt sick after eating there. The service was really bad, the staff were rude, lazy and unprofessional. They ignored us most of the time and took ages to bring our food and drinks. I have ordered dumpings and they gave me a chicken roll.. Orderer 330 ml beer and gave me 660 ml beer..I do not recommend River Spice Reading to anyone looking for a good Indian meal in Reading town. You will regret it!

Decent Indian restaurant. The food was pretty good, no complaints there. Service is excellent as expected in most restaurants. The view of the river and Cavesham Bridge is beautiful and definitely made the visit that bit more special. It was a little too quiet for our liking, but it was a midweek evening. It also has plenty of parking on-site which is a bonus

Only me and my husband there,very slow service,my husband asked the waiter what was in the special fried rice he didn't have a clue,he didn't even go to kitchen to ask chef.asked for 2 pints of lime and soda,relieved a little glass and charged £7.spoke with manager about it all and he basically said if u don't like it tough don't come back,safe to say won't be returning

On the river and absolutely delicious. Very clean and sparkly. Lovely views. The Lamb and prawn biryani is the best I have ever tasted..out of this world. I come here whenever I am working .

7pm Saturday, as a group of 6, when there were only a few other tables occupied, it should have been quite reasonable to get our food in half an hour or do. We didnt even have starters apart from poppadoms and only ordered a main each, 2 sides, 3 rice & 2 naan, so an easy order. We started asking how much longer for our food after 45mins, then every 10mins or so, and were promised it was on the way. After an hour and a half, the couple on the table next to us left, and we finally received ours shortly afterwards. Minus 1 rice and the waiter then argued and insisted we'd only ordered 2. Yes the food was very good, but it's very clear that their takeaway trade takes priority over the restaurant guests who are paying more plus buying high priced drinks while they wait. Deliveroo were in and out constantly. It would be far quicker to sit in the car park just before your table was booked, order a takeaway for collection then carry it into the restaurant and sit down at your table and ask for plates and drinks! A group of 14 came in about an hour after us and were still waiting for theirs when we left, I dread to think how long they waited. It's a shame, it's a great location, great food but if you go out for a meal with friends for a celebration, you really want to feel welcome, and not be irritated by having to constantly chase for the food, and again to pay.

Just had an underwhelming experience at the Indian restaurant I visited yesterday with my family. The atmosphere was alright, but unfortunately the food didn't live up to expectations. It lacked any real flavor or aroma of Indian spices - definitely needs some improvement! #indianrestaurant #disappointingexperience

We visited Riverspice over the weekend. The staff were very attentive and made my Birthday meal special. The food was amazing will definitely be visiting again soon.

The temperature outside on this Monday night was a freezing --4C. Unsurprisingly the restaurant was nearly empty. Nevertheless, we'd heard fairly positive reports about it. A warm welcome, an extensive menu (in fact, probably too extensive), reasonably priced bottle of shiraz, very good food presentation and delicious food. The owner and his crew were very friendly. It wasn't cheap but there again, you get what pay for and we certainly did. All boxes ticked. I'll have no reservations about visiting again and I highly recommend.

I am shocked to learn a MUSHROOM curry is £2-3 DEARER than a fish or meat one!! We have been visiting this restaurant for years and have recommended to many people but not anymore!! How can a mushroom curry be more expensive than meat? Also £4.50 for not even a pint of warm flat coke? Sorry but £35 for one curry meal is not good. Also had to ask 3 times for the bill. Safe to say no tip was left

We ordered takeaway. Roti was received cold, dry and hard. The Goan fish curry was ok but it was definitely not made with monk fish but a white fish substitute which is incredibly disappointing for the price £14.99, which isn’t cheap. The montaja was ok at best. A pretty poor curry night.

This curry house does what it says on the tin. The service is very good and the boss himself makes time to speak to his customers. They have a large selection of wine and if you like a hot dish, this is the place to go as the chef is very good at making heat and flavour mix. As for the price, it is very reasonable. A great place to go if you enjoy eating curry from a restaurant with friends, family or as a couple.

We ordered Madras Chicken, Sag Aloo and Pilau Rice. They were all very delicious, very different from most Indian restaurant curry dishes, where they mostly taste 'tomato-ish' in EVERY dish. Great discovery👍

Nice food and location, but be prepared for unfriendly service, been here a few times and been made to not feel welcomed each time, an exception to the younger waiter he has always greeted us with a smile. The food is good…: We have been told the restaurant opens at 5:30. I think some feed back for the restaurant, your customers only go by what is on your website and advertised so please update…. Also you have a great restaurant, customer service isn’t just bringing food it’s welcoming and showing off all you have to offer, which is a lot. River spice has soo much potential unfortunately talking to other people who have been there they would not return due to the customer service.

Booked for a table of 6 and had a table right by the river, which was very nice. Food was very tasty and hot. Waiters were a little slow at taking our order at the beginning but were great afterwards. Would definitely come back again

Excellent and satisfyingly spicy curry with friendly if at times slightly chaotic service. The veggie Vindaloo and Dhansak were extremely tasty and the only issue for the carnivores was slightly chewy lamb and the chicken was succulent. Tasty Onion Bhaji/samosa starters, decent portions. True, we had to make a slight effort to capture a bill at the bitter end but this only involved a little encouragement at the bar. Great views on a summer evening but probably only if you reserve an earlyish table. Plenty of parking spaces on a Saturday night.

So the food wasn’t that bad at all but the waiter was rude and had no patience for anything we asked. Asked for water and he walks away huffing and when I asked if I could take my food back he responded with “nothing is free in life you have to pay for the containers” which wouldn’t have been a problem but he just took the food away without asking if we were done. Overall I would come back for the food but definitely not for the customer service.

Absolutely great. Staff are polite and catered to every needs, have a chirstmas party most years with 20+ people who are all satisfied with the food and beer selection! Also take aways most Friday evenings with the family food is always hot and tasty. Never had any issue 10/10!

You would think I would give 4 or 5 stars at this point, however, I compared the Deliveroo prices with the menu, and I found that just about every item was more expensive (the worst example being the Prawn Puree starter, which should be a little over £5, but was charged an extra £1.25 using Deliveroo). When you pay a Service Charge and Delivery Fee, you expect to be paying the same menu price. IMO this is deceitful and outrageous. I am very disappointment they don't have their own delivery service, and will not start going back for collection (read Tripadvisor reviews!). Huge shame, as the food was very good. One of my measures is Lamb Dhansak, the reason being, the vast majority of restaurants serve truly awful lamb (I guess hoping the sauce will disguise the fat and gristle). The quality of meat at River Spice has always been great (although a little dry on one occasion). The Dhansak is rich and spicy, absolutely fantastic (I haven't had one that is comparable anywhere). One thing that lets them down is 'takeaway'. I have virtually given up with them, as they are normally late, and don't apologise, let alone compensate in any manner. I have waited 30mins+ at the bar, and now often choose to go elsewhere. They have parking, which appears to be adequate, as I have not had problems.
