Just stayed for 3 nights , what a great place, the staff are lovely and so helpful, ample parking , and so near the town, the place needs a complete refurb but don’t let that put you off , the place is very clean , our beds were very comfortable and we will definitely go back , it will look amazing when it’s refurbished, people with children will have to be carful as there is no barrier to stop children from getting near the river, but then that is down to parents , definitely book it’s great

We’ve stayed at this hotel many times in the last 20 years, and although some parts of the hotel need updating, on the whole it’s always a great place to stay & close to the town centre, the food has been excellent and nothing is too much trouble, if you want something that’s not on the menu, the chef will do his best to get it for you, I’d recommend this hotel to anyone

The hotel was OK, standard English fare. The rooms were clean, but someone on the old side, light in the bathroom did not work. Walls are very thin so you could hear much from the other rooms. Breakfast was OK, Nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, the river next to which the hotel is situated is completely drained with boats lying on the bottom of the basin - so no scenic view

Excellent Sunday lunch for a large group of 19 to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. The smoked mackerel pâté was delicious and served with plenty of lovely grainy bread, but the roast pork belly was the star of the show, cooked to perfection and served with crispy roast potatoes, crackling and Yorkshire’s and a great selection of veg and delicious gravy. And it’s very good value too. Staff are all very king and accommodating, only opportunity for improvement - the place settings could have been laid ready for the starter, main and dessert, instead we had to pass round new cutlery for each course. And we had to ask several times for jugs of water and for the wine we had ordered to be brought out, and then had to pour it ourselves. But overall we had a great celebration for Mum and were well looked after. Thank you to Chef and the other staff at the River Haven.

I never give 5 ratings, because if I did and I found somewhere better I have nothing better to give. Table for 4 at 6.30. Easily booked. Allowed to borrow a menu to look at on the caravan park where we were staying. Nikki the waitress was fun and personable, as well as being very professional. Everyone's food was very good. Portion size was also very good. Prices not too steep. Better than in town. After our meal the chef came and spoke to us. Made it feel very personal. Enjoyed our evening very much will be going back.

We had an enjoyable five night stay here and thought it was extremely good value for money. The full English breakfast was really tasty. We didn’t eat in the hotel in the evenings, purely as we like to walk out into town as part of our holiday experience. We arrived around 1pm and were pleased to learn our rooms were ready. We sat outside for drinks and light bites. It’s a lovely setting by the river and our waiter was very attentive. Food was perfect for what we wanted - we shared some starters and a kids meal as we were eating out later. We had rooms overlooking the river. They were clean and a reasonable size. Beds were comfortable and shower was ok though not massively powerful. Tea, coffee and sparkling water were provided. It’s only a short walk along the river bank to town and as it has its own car park, that works really well.Breakfast is served in a light and airy conservatory and was cooked to order. Fairly standard menu, of full English, smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, poached eggs on toast etc. with choice of juices and hot drinks. All arrived hot and was very nice.A nice place for a short break.

Me and my partner visited the restaurant. My partner ordered a meat burger and I ordered a vegetarian burger in a gluten free bun. As the dishes came out the cook came to our table to apologise for the size of the gluten free bun. But it was really shocking to see that the content was even smaller than the bun! It just had one slice of halloumi cheese, one thin slice of tomato, one mushroom and one leaf of lettuce. The saddest burger I have ever seen, if you could call that a burger - it was more like a salad skewer. A good cook should know how to make a good burger regardless of the bun. But it doesn't end there. At the end of our meal, the cook came out to ask why I didn't eat the bun, and to ask to my partner if he liked his meat burger. He also said, referring to the meat burger, that it was a "man's burger" with a tough tone as he curled his biceps...Sorry I didn't take a picture of the "burger". I wasn't planning on writing a bad review but that last comment was enfuriating. On a positive note, the meat burger was big and looked delicious and the location is lovely.

i had booked a lunch at the River Haven as it has a good write up and it is my 40th wedding anniversaryMy wife, my Son and I decided that the carvery was a good idea and with beef, lamb and pork on the menu it looked a good bet The counter had an array of veg but no sign of any meat, I asked the waitress if there was a carvery and she said it comes from the kitchenI ordered the lamb and beef, my son the beef and my wife lamb and pork, on its arrival it was impossible to tell one meat from another as it was all a grey colour and appeared to have been heated up and not carved from a joint and we all found it quite exceptionally tasteless the gravy we had to wait for and then had to get it ourselves even though we had already sat down I asked for tomato juice, cappuccino to drink and was told that they don't do this .of the 3 sweets on offer only 2 were available and not the apple crumble the roast potatoes were great and the price was reasonable if the food had been up to standard

We chose to eat at our hotel mainly because it was late, cold and dark and we did not wish to walk into Rye. I therefore had very limited expectations, especially as we were one of only three couples in a largely empty, fairly cold space, but we had struck lucky. Service was very friendly and my steak was tender , quality meat cooked exactly as I had asked for it . My wife had a very satisfactory Moussaka and followed it up with a rich, buttery apple pudding , again better then average. There was a good hot and cold buffet breakfast the following morning.

We bumped into this beautiful pub whilst away on business. Very grateful we did. A fantastic pub with friendly staff and frankly outstanding food. Gammon egg and chips was everything you’d want, A salty thick slab of beautiful gammon with perfect eggs and crispy chips. The pie was increíble- a generous slab of (surely) homemade shortcrust pasty, chicken, ham and leek pie with chips, veg and gravy. Deep filled is an understatement! Couldn’t recommend more- a big thanks to Nikki and the staff.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.
