I've been to a lot of pubs around the Chelmsford area and this is by far my favourite to have a relaxing pint of Guinness. The Guinness is by far one of the best around. They make you feel welcome and is a great place to sit and relax and catch up with sport on the TV.

A large group of us from the running club met here for a drink on a Sunday evening because it was about the only pub in Danbury that was open on a Sunday. We were the only customers in there. I love this pub. Started coming here when I moved to Maldon 2 years ago and have made some really good friends. Always a lovely welcome and great atmosphere. Ellie and her staff always go out their way to make time for me. Sarah's pizzas are just amazing. I'm a fussy sod and I can honestly say that they are the best I've ever had. The beer is always great as well. Keep up the great work team. I love coming to your pub and enjoying your company. So if you are in the area or passing make sure you give this little gem a try. We'd been to Danbury Lakes and found the closest pub to go have some lunch. So we were introduced to The Bell and wow I'm so pleased we were. Let by Daniel who's lovely and had a choice of seats as a walking club who had booked table were not walking sure to the heat. 32C We were both made welcome and seated with a fan. Complementary water at the bar was nice. The menu is quite extensive and the food we chose was well worth it. I had the Sausage Melt and my wife had a Cheese/Onion baguette. Both come with salad and chips, and they were very filling. Such a nice place to eat with great food, friendly staff who made us very welcome. Just to note this is a dog friendly pub, with facilities for the larger dogs like Greyhounds too. So to follow this up, we are looking to have a lunch with friends with our dogs, when the weather is less crazy

We have always visited The Ring of Bells in St Izzy as the home made food has been brilliant but as we didn't come to Cornwall last year we had a break for a year but this place was the first eatery on our list due to past experiences. There was six of us for dinner but we didn't have one good meal, where as everything before was truest home made and fresh right down the to freshly battered onion rings and tasty ribs this time round it appeared to be all packet frozen food. We have eaten on a number of occasions in recent years at this delightful village pub and called on the off chance last Saturday. We were greeted by friendly bar staff who offered us a table and poured our drinks. We ordered 4 lasagnes.... they were served quickly & piping hot with ample salad & chips. We liked the way in which the lasagne was served on the plate with the rest of the food, rather than a separate dish. The food was great & after a couple of drinks we walked out very full without sampling the rather delicious looking desserts. Friendly staff & locals...the staff in the kitchen also ready to smile & greet you. Sunday lunch consists of a choice of roast pork, lamb or beef, from what I could gather these are the only options available during the lunchtime period. The meals are £9.95 per person for one course, which we found filling and offered excellent value for money. The food was plentiful and piping hot. The meat was served with two large roast potatoes, a couple of boiled potatoes, home made Yorkshire pudding. A dish of freshly cooked carrots and brocolli accompanied the meal, plus a generous serving of cauliflower cheese. Portion sizes were large and although we didn't have dessert the ones we saw being delivered to other diners looked very large. We booked in advance which I would advise as the pub does seem very popular. When booking I was asked if we would be taking a dog, we weren't, but diners with dogs are welcome and are seated in a separate area to those without which was very nice.Would highly recommend, service was prompt and very friendly.

I should make it clear that this review and rating is as a pub only as we only used it for evening drinks, so I cannot comment on the food. This is a lovely traditional village pub with a cosy ambience. It has a restaurant at one side although you can also eat in the bar if you prefer (which many do). It does a good trade in the evenings from holidaymakers using it for meals, for which it offers a good menu of pub grub. They also offer a good range of ales (Doom Bar, Tribute and Courage Best), although I found the prices of drinks higher than most pubs in the area.If you are eating and wish to run a tab you will be asked to hand over a credit card to be held behind the bar, which seems to initially disconcert some customers, although the card is placed in a card safe behind the bar rather than left openly.Overall, it’s a very good and cosy village pub, which is understandably popular.

We are stay in the area every couple of years or so and always have a meal at the "Ringers". This year we went twice. The first thing I noticed was that the car park was full. For that reason alone I'd recommend booking ahead if you are travelling in from, say, Padstow. Not to say you are going to get served any quicker but it's better than hanging around waiting for a table. We may have been unlucky, but I got the impression (as did other guests) that there were too few front of house staff, either to take orders or provide a full waiting service. But when the food arrived, everything was fine. I'd recommend both the fish pie and the steak Caesar salad. And a couple of pints of Doom Bar went down well.I hope to return to the "Ringers" next time we are in the locality.

To make the most of our recent family holiday to Cornwall, we stopped at the Ring O Bells last Friday night in order to add an extra day to our visit. As a vegan, cruely-free pub grub can sometimes be challenging to find however the Ring O Bells were more than happy to cater for my dietary needs. Dinner was delicious (I had the garlic mushrooms minus the garlic mayo to start and the chilli for main), and breakfast the following morning was equally tasty - the owner purchased vegan sausages and vegan butter for me specially. The room we stayed in was clean and cute - although my 6' 5 boyfriend did struggle a bit with the size of the shower! The pub itself is very quaint and felt extremely cosy. I should first make clear that this review and rating is as a pub/bar only, as we did not eat there on this occasion so cannot comment on the food. This is a lovely traditional village pub with a cosy ambience. It has a restaurant at one side although you can also eat in the bar if you prefer (which many seem to do). It does a good trade in the evenings from visitors using it for meals, for which it offers a good menu of pub grub. To their credit they do not put reserved signs on tables in the bar, so it’s a matter of finding a table before ordering (although I imagine they take reservations for the restaurant area). To my mind this is the way it should be. They also offer a good range of ales (Doom Bar, Tribute and Courage Best) Do be aware that if you wish to run a tab you will be asked to leave a credit card behind the bar, which seems to initially disconcert some customers, although this is placed in a card safe and you are given the key.My one criticism is the high price of the beer. At £4.35 for a pint of Tribute this was the most expensive I found in all Cornish pubs I visit by a long way, and I visit quite a few! (and it wasn't a mistake as I had three pints at that price). In fact it’s more than I pay for a pint of bitter in a pub in central London. To put it in perspective, a pint of Tribute at four different and popular pubs in the area that I subsequently noted for comparison purposes all charged £3.40, while another charged a £3.45. Quite a difference for one pint! I suppose that as most visitors combine the cost of their drinks with their meals it doesn’t notice, and locals (who I imagine have to pay the same price) have no choice without driving. However, apart from this very significant higher cost of beer, it is a very good traditional village pub.

There were two of us for dinner, Saturday night after the main rush was through. We ordered 1 starter, 2 main meals, 1 side, plus drinks. The young man who took our food order was friendly, as was the waitress who took our drinks order. Then it all went wrong.First, the food took ages to arrive, though a disclaimer on the menu advises customers to be patient during busy periods as all meals are cooked fresh to order. That's fair enough, but then that would imply to me that the food is worth the wait...Unfortunately, when the meals eventually turned up, they all arrived together: the starter plus the main courses and the side. What good is that?? The starter course was accepted anyway, but turned out to be burnt. One of the main courses - a pie - was so dried out it was inedible and was sent back. The waitress to our table several times cast surly glances towards me once we started complaining (how is your rotten service our fault)??. The young lad though pleasant didn't seem to have much idea about what he was doing. A replacement main course was cooked for my dining partner, which was better (at least I hope so - I know what goes on in some kitchens when diners complain, even if they're 100% justified). The one redeeming feature of the whole experience was payment: we were only charged the cost of the replacement main meal, starter, side, and drinks (no negotiation necessary). The landlord didn't seem to apologetic otherwise. Our visit to The Ring O Bells was on a recommendation. Not impressed at all and we definitely won't be going back.

We've been popping in to this pub for years when we visit Little Petherick for yet another week in Cornwall! It really is a little gem. It's a traditional pub with a good local trade as well as a steady flow of tourists. The landlord and staff are great and the locals are friendly and chatty. The beer is always "on song" and the meals are excellent and very reasonably priced. One thing we really like about the place is that they always tell you how long the wait is likeley to be, so as you can change your mind if you're too hungry to wait - but then they always seem to surprise you and bring it sooner.

We visited here for dinner on the first evening of our trip to Cornwall whilst staying in Wadebridge. Check TripAdvisor and this place had decent reviews and was just 10 - 15 minutes from where we were. Quick phone call to check availability and off to the venue. When we arrived we parked on a car park just over the side road from the pub and made our way in via the side entrance there were a couple of locals sat in the rear yard with their dogs having a drink and we breezed into the bar area. There were a few locals in there and the place fell silent, how cliched and awful , but it happens, the female bar person was pleasant enough and we ordered a round of drinks at the bar and found ourselves a table near the window overlooking the main road with our menu's. The four of us decided to go for just mains on this occasion and we chose the 'Ringers' Bangers & Mash, Spicy Pulled Pork Ciabatta and my wife and I opted for the 'Ringers' Proper Pie, She had Beef in Ale and I had the Chicken, Bacon & Leek. The food was a few minutes as one would expect from freshly cooked and when it came it was quite lovely, the Sausages were plump and well cooked, the pork was nicely spiced and the pies were indeed 'Proper' filled will luscious chunks of meat and was lovely with great pastry and served with fresh veg delicious. The bar person came and enquired if all was well and asked if we required extra gravy which we accepted, All in all a satisfying meal. The beer was well kept and not overly pricey, Apparently the locals have a loyalty card scheme here... novel idea! The place itself is a little dated but still a decent hostelry there is a leaflet about the place which despite a the lack of a spell check before printing and I would revisit next time we are in the area but my wife was less convinced as she didn't take to the place for some reason.

Called in for lunch. Pleasantly surprised by the decor. The menu whilst limited was reasonably priced, all the food is cooked fresh and was delicious. Real onion in the onion rings, not mush, properly cooked and tasted good. The ciabata roll was crisp and the burger cooked just right. Really enjoyed it. A good selection of beers is available too. The Landlord was very welcomingand thanked us for our custom, you don't get that in a lot of pubs.We have never been before as it is off the beaten track, however on the bus route which stops outside !!!!! Would recommend and will visit again when in the area.

Just had lunch here with friends. Whilst not the most dynamic menu the food was excellent. True pub food which tasted very good. Can recommend real meat pie, bangers and mash, and curry because that's what we all had

We were staying in Padstow and had several meals there but on the last night we visited the Ring O'Bells at St Issy. We had not booked but were found a nice table immediatly despite the Royal Cornwall Show being on at nearby Wadebridge. The food was good and reasonably priced and the service was friendly and helpful. Highlt recommended.

23 years ago this was the first Cornish pub we ever visited and have returned many times especially now family live down the end of the lane. The Ringers is a great proper village pub we have had some great evenings in there especially recently when we had my sister in laws 50th birthday party there. Food is great a lot of it produced by Chris such as the lovely sausages and bacon served at breakfast the beer the night before was good too! They support and encourage alot of traditional Cornish ways such as singing etc. Make a visit you wont be dissapointed

I really don't know why I haven't reviewed this lovely pub before. I have visited it many many times and have never had a disappointing moment. In fact I have known it for over forty years . The Landlord Chris is charming as are his staff. There is a very intimate atmosphere here as there should be ( sadly lacking in many gastro pubs) Dogs are very welcome in the bar and Brin the dear old resident dog lies in the corridor gazing lovingly at the kitchen. Incidentally there is a very comfortable restaurant to visit if you are dog less.Chris also has a smallholding from where a lot of his produce comes from. I remember turning up one day late afternoon for a pint and he was carrying a bucket to the car park . "Sorry we're closed. I'm off to feed the pigs"Which brings me to the food. This is homemade and delicious, weekdays there is not a huge menu which is a great thing, proving that everything is hand prepared. My heart sinks when you are handed a menu of 16 pages or more, you know the whole meal comes out of the freezer. On Sunday's there is a carvery not to be missed and have never been disappointed. Order at the bar and everything is brought to you. With superb service and charm.I couldn't rate the "Ringers" high enough.I should point out that I have no affiliation with this establishment.........I wish I had.

Visited with no reservation over Easter. Very welcoming and friendly. Food was ok maybe a little over-priced. One of the meat pies contained very dry meat. Other meals were ok and the pub is dog friendly!

This is a lovely local ... that's it's main function: acting as the heart of this friendly little community. It also provides surprisingly great food. Surprising because it's all pre-prepared, but is great nonetheless. We took our own bottle of extra hot chilli sauce and the chilli con carne is quite mild, but that made it superb. Great pies, great ribs, great lots of things ... it's pub grub but it's great. Nice beers too. As a tourist, I'd give this 3 stars. But recognising that it is a local, I'm seeing it from that angle and giving it 4 stars. Great stuff ... been coming 11 years now. Be back soon.

I'm not sure if it's allowed to have crushes on breakfast staff, but if so, then the guy who served us this morning has officially won my heart! Seriously, though, he was incredibly kind and professional. If there are any awards for exceptional service, he deserves one!

The golden lion pub in St. Ives, Cornwall is a big golden lie. The only semi accurate portion of their image is the lion. All of the food tasted as if it was found inside the rotting, months-old carcass of a poached lion. The onion rings were wet and pustular, they tasted as if they were fried in the neck oil of the surly bartender who took our order. The testicular mushrooms were the best thing we ordered even though the garlic mayo on the side resembled a tepid bowl of curdled man-milk. The burgers were obviously cooked on a griddle that hasn’t been cleaned in years. The food had remnants of meals from years past. Giving it a vintage, nostalgic quality. The chicken was shriveled and flavorless with enough mayonnaise goop on it to feed a family of 4. While waiting waiting for the fhood, we had time to take in the odor of unwashed children and great-grandpas ashtray. The table we sat at had a stickiness that I’ve only felt on the gummy underside of a second graders desk. 3 hours later, while writing this review, we taste these rancid flavors once again through accursed burps. This truly remarkable combination of disgusting furniture, surly servers, and god-awful food has truly cemented this place into our hall of shame.

Myself and wife went here for Sunday carvery it was £15 each and we was disappointed with the quality and the service, we paid for our meals via the on line system and the waitress bought us our drinks and our tickets to take up to the carvery counter, while we was waiting we noticed the chef who was cutting the meat was sweating profusely and wiping brow with his arm, when I got to the counter I asked him for beef and pork and he cut them about 3 inches thick! Far too thick to cut with a regular knife easily, and the pork had so much white fat around it, the yorkshires were disgustingly awful, the road potatoes were very hard and tasted stale, the squares of stuffing were very nice tho as was the buttered carrots and the cabbage, unfortunately the Swede was a bit tasteless and we had to scrape the gravy barrel to try to get some gravy out!! Overall a disappointment to be honest, even the table we was on was wobbly, also to point out as well it was very very warm in there. Unfortunately we won’t be returning, we might of just been unlucky because the pub was busy and is in a loverly location, so it might of just been a bad day.
