Richard's Cafe in Brighton and Hove

We have been to Richards many times over the last 20 years and it never disappoints. The service is excellent and you’re made to feel so welcome and at home. The food is consistently good and we have always thoroughly enjoyed what ever we have chosen. They are also dog friendly and ver accommodating so everyone has a great experience.

I went to Richards cafe today, I ordered the full English breakfast, and it's was cook lovely! I was quite hungry and the bacon and sausage was cooked very well, nice friendly atmosphere, the two young waitress were very helpful, and Kyle the young chef who cooked my food is always very nice approachable! I love going here and I will be back soon.

Wanted the traditional breakfast after a night of drinking. Walked past Richard’s. We got a table for two inside the place was very busy. Service was really friendly but very slow. It took about 20 mins to take or order and then another 20 mins to get our breakfast. It was super busy and made to order so I do understand. It is nice to sit and relax. I think by reading the reviews, Barbara came in. What a ball of energy, super friendly. You could really see the speed of service picked up. On the whole great little cafe with lovely staff.

Didn't get to ask the Lady's name but I believe it could be Barbara? ( From reviews below ) Such a LEGEND. SO welcoming and literally brightened up our day. Went with wife and son for a spontaneous brunch and left with a big smile thanks to the Service of this incredible lady. Will be back!

The loveliest waitress in the world, Barbra, made our day. We actually went back because of how lovely she was. They also don't just expect tips, but when they do, they're so appreciative, I've never experienced that before. The full english was spot on too

First time trying out looked comfy from outside as we sat in table rather sticky had to ask to have it wiped clean and prices to me extortionate especially if it was a jacket ( baked) potato with cheese and baked beans for £9.20 also a small amercano coffee with cold milk £3.15 not I was penny pinching I thought those prices I could feed myself at home for 2 days Is it ok if you have more money than sense this is a place for you not me Would not recommend or going back

A very friendly welcome from the lovely Barbara and her colleagues. Excellent breakfast menu including loads of vegan options. Quick service even though there were 13 of us. Highly recommended.

Was looking for respite from the rain with my friends when we came across this warm looking cafe. The food was amazing, the cafe manager Barbara was so lovely and the vibe was great all round! This cafe saved me and my friends from a terrible hangover and our life is better after her infectious positivity ! Hala pure vibes 😜🤝🤙

Good food but sticky tables. Ew. That’s a real turnoff. Otherwise a good experience. The Full English was good and the waitresses very friendly. Good service.

Comedy of errors - 1) coffees wrong way around (large cup = flat white, small cup =cappuccino) 2) caffeine instead of requested decaf 3) cooked breakfast swaps completely forgotten 4) not fresh orange juice 5) no poached eggs on the squashed avocado (although on menu) all within first 10 mins!! Amazing

RICHARD IS AWFUL. The owner or should I say disgrace of a man, sits in the cafe with his equally awful friends treating his staff like trash, he made me feel so uncomfortable I had to leave. I feel sorry for the staff and wish them the best. Richard needs to retire and let someone who enjoys life take over. If you do visit this cafe I can only hope this vile human isn’t there.

I’d give them 10/5 if I could. Barbara/Babs is the unflappable host and is so welcoming and friendly, you’d feel like an old friend even if this was your first visit. I met a mate for lunch and our food was absolutely delicious (took a while to arrive but as everything else was so good it didn’t matter). I had the vegan breakfast and my friend had avocado on toast with perfectly poached eggs and it was all piping hot when it came. I’d recommend Richard’s to anyone. Make sure you go.

DONT GO DONT GO!!! Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!! PLEASE DO NOT GO! They made me feel very very uncomfortable as I heard them gossiping about me and people I was with as a place of work I thought this was very unprofessional and super super uncomfortable! Food was also grim and all work staff extremely bitchy!

We went for a late lunch on a chance and were warmly greeted by the staff. Food came quickly and was decently priced. Very cozy atmosphere, though not a lot of space

Stopped by for breakfast after visiting for a night out with friends. The Scottish lady who was serving treated us like old friends and the full English was amazing. We even got a hug and a "see you soon!" as we left. Yes, Barbara, you will see us soon!

The most sensational vegetarian breakfast ever. Beautifully cooked and served up with a beautiful smile from the chatty waitress Barbara who deserved a peck on the cheek on the way out. Quality food and great atmosphere. We'll be back. 😊

This is a friendly cafe run by nature and very experienced people. It can be crowded but regular patrons can be confident of finding a seat. The menu is extensive for a cafe of this size and is excellent value.

This was a deliveroo order of a cheese toastie and coffee. It took three hours to arrive and when I called to (very politely!) ask about how long it would be the girl said “I don’t want to deal with this” then hung up on me. Would NOT recommend!

Went here twice in the last couple of days, in both visits service was slow after ordering even though there was only a couple of people in the cafe. Standard breakfast was £10.50 although the quality was not that good and the eggs were snotty, would have sent back but couldn't wait any longer. Not particularly cheap for quality. Other occasion just had bacon sandwich and tea but also a long wait after ordering.

We stopped off at Richard's for breakfast after viewing a property in Hove and were overwhelmed by the positive experience! The food was amazing, service impeccable and atmosphere warm and welcoming. The icing on the cake was Babs, the amazing Scottish lady who served us! She was so adorable, attentive and provided us with a wealth of information about the area, life in Hove and where to visit : places, eat outs etc. They should rename it 'Babs Place' as she is an invaluable asset to the business and draws customers in with her positive energy! Highly, highly recommend.

Cracking breakfast food with a smile and chat too! Barbara takes the time out of her day to recommend activities and outings in hove, as well as share a joke or two!

The sun always shines sat outside Richards. Quality food and Barbara is gods gift to green earth, we always visit Richards when in Brighton, 11/10 recommend.

Come here for the best English breakfast in Brighton & Hove. Fortunately, I live close by so visit Richard’s relatively frequently. The staff are always super friendly too

The food here was really nice and the lady who served us was lovely, but the service was painfully slow. We waited 90 minutes (yes 90!!!) for 4 regular breakfasts, all completely standard off the menu, nothing special, difficult or awkward. It was Sunday morning...

Unsure if there was a stand off between the chickens out the back and staff or whether the bread grew legs and ran off but the service and speed was absolutely abysmal. We arrived at the cafe at 10:45am and didn’t receive any food until...

Stopped for a quick bite to eat for lunch. Breakfast, sandwiches, panini's and more on offer. Staff were lovely and food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the chilli chicken sandwich with bacon and advacado. Best sandwich I've eaten.

I Had a lovely breakfast on my own in this place cozy and very welcoming close to my house. I chose the big breakfast as shown in the picture below, It was tasty and satiating. Staff on the front consisting of 3 girls were amazing and very professional, helping you to make yourself comfortable and enjoy the time at the best. Would definetely come back when I'll have another chance.

Really disappointed, me and my partner came here for breakfast after reading good reviews. I ordered the bacon, onion and Brie panini. I am a massive fan of bacon and Brie but cannot stand onion. I enquired as to whether it was possible to have the panini without the onion and was told that was ok. My panini came and it was obvious that onion had been in it due to the red stains and onion left over, for me it was inedible and no staff came by to ask if the food was ok. My partner ate the panini and agreed the overarching taste was onion. If it was not possible to take it out of the panini please say and I’ll order something else! My partner had the full English and gave it a 5/10.

After living in the area for many years we recently discovered Richards and have since been back several times. We have found the food to be of excellent quality and plentiful. Prices are also very reasonable and there is a wide variety to suit all palettes. Staff are friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend Richards which has become our go to when shopping in the area.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this cafe was so good that I needed too. We went as a group of 13 for breakfast and the staff were absolutely amazing for sorting out tables for all of us to eat together. Aswell as the food being amazing, and on point the customer service was exceptional, and they catered for everything we needed, including my babies breakfast! The staff were just so friendly and lovely. Thank you Richards Cafe, next time we are in Brighton we will be back!

Visiting the area over the weekend we happened across Richards Cafe on Sunday morning…… turns out we struck gold! Fantastic full English, fab coffee……. Great avo and eggs. Service was brilliant and super friendly. We are planning a return!!!!!!

Only lived in Brighton 1 year and a half but Richard’s cafe is by far my favourite place to eat thus far, i started out having their food takeaway during lockdown and I thought I would come down and actually eat there. First when you could only eat outside, now inside. The staff are all the lovely, the food is amazing, great vegan food, great price and great service. The blonde Scottish lady is probably the nicest person I’ve ever met, absolutely lovely every-time and takes extra interest in your life more than anyone who’s ever served me. So sweet. Love this place, I tell everyone about it.

We spent the day on Hove beach and our usual lunch spot was closed. Headed into Hove looking for sandwiches and stumbled across Richard’s. Nice people and great sandwiches. Made to order and packed with filling - really struggled to finish them but too tasty to waste. We have a new favourite place now to pick up lunch before heading back to the beach - you should do the same!

Visited today with my daughter. My daughter lives in Hove and had said how good breakfast was here but Wow!! Extraordinarily good! Fantastic friendly service. Gorgeous breakfast very well cooked.

Richards of Hove had lots of good reviews so I was super excitedto treat myself to a lazy breakfast in bed. But maybe the chef/cook was hanging after watching the footie last night. The bangers were banging, black pudding also nice. But my poached egg was a sloppy broken mess mixed in with mushroom juice. But the biggest annoyance were the beans. They were in a flimsy paper cup with an ill fitting lid and they literally fell out the packing as I took it out the bag. I notice that they did wrap the cup with a very small piece of foil. I imagine that was to help it stay warm. Can I suggest that they wrap it completely? It would not have 'bean' so bad if I was in the kitchen serving the food. But I wasn't. I was sat on my bed. So the term breakfast in bed is exactly what happened! Was fuming because I am disabled and puttingnew bedding on is very difficult at the best of times... They obviously need to know HOW to pack a breakie for delivery! Because how they do it now is not working very well

we attended Richard's cafe this morning for breakfast . We found a seat and were given our menus promptly but after that we saw at least 3 tables that arrived after us get served before us , i then had to go and find a member of staff to get some service and it was virtually 30 minutes before we received our tea and coffee etc and a further 15 minutes before we received our breakfast . my partner then had to leave the table immediately after breakfast as the hour was up on the parking meter . the lady that served was very friendly and did apologise for the wait but its a bit frustrating when you have owners/staff chatting to regulars when tables are waiting to be served..... On a plus note the food is lovely and the cafe is always full when you are passing by so it must be good but allow yourself plenty of time when visiting and put 90 minutes on your parking meter or you could be heading for a very expensive meal

So many sandwich places to go on this road but I found this while hiding from the rain. It was the best find ever! Such fresh healthy food and the loveliest staff. I could have eaten 2 of their sandwiches. Don’t miss out!

Great coffee and breakfast only thing that let this perfect place down was cramming tables in and feeling like you were pushing people out to get a table. It was difficult to maintain the current social distancing and tables were cleaned as been seated. That to one side the hosts were great, services was good and food lovely.Thank you team Richards

Came here on Sunday morning and we were seated straight away. I was very impressed to see a vegan fry up option and it did not disappoint!! Huge portion and perfect to sort out the hangover. Staff were so friendly also and gave us everything we needed. Defo recommend

Visited yesterday and ordered the vegetarian breakfast which was amazing and really good value. Although it was really busy, staff were polite and friendly and breakfast served quickly. A great cafe, can’t rate it highly enough. Will definitely be returning. Keep up the good work!

Food was average. And that is pretty much the most positive thing I could say about this place. The americano tasted burnt and I’m pretty sure the milk on the side was one previously left by another customer. The atmosphere between staff just felt really off. An older man came in, who I assumed to be Richard, and delivered supermarket (tesco) groceries and seemed to boss his staff around in quite an intimidating and nasty way. One of the girls making sandwiches actually picked her nose, ate it and then proceeded to take a handful of salad to put into the sandwich she was making. Wouldn’t recommend this place.

Fabulous service! My first time to this cafe and being welcomed! The staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful! Would definitely recommend to everyone who’s around Hove/Brighton. Can’t wait to go back!

my daughter and I travelled here for a full english breakfast from Burgess Hill. . . what a find- excellent service, excellent decor, and excellent food. the ingredients used are very high quality - sausages, bacon, egg, mushrooms and hash browns cooked to perfection. every mouthful was one to savour. The owner Richard gave personal service- genuine and sincere - well done team Richard’s Cafe!

We have stayed in hove quite a few times as visiting quite often to visit my son who is at uni in Brighton. We found this lovely cafe on our first visit and have been going back to it every time we visit as the welcome and the breakfast is always awesome. A very comprehensive menu for a small cafe. My girlfriend has wanted to come to richards for some time as they've got good ratings online. We came on a saturday morning and it wasn't too busy which was nice. Lovely service throughout from all the lovely waitresses.

Visited Richard's on 19 September for breakfast, and even met 'the man who pays the bills'! Ordered a vegetarian breakfast which was cooked to perfection, very filling and delicious. The oil it was cooked in was so light I could taste the lovely food and not the oil it was cooked in. I thanked 'the man who pays the bills' and the lovely lady who cooked it. This cafe has a lovely atmosphere, and has some of the things that I notice have disappeared from some cafes - relaxing music, magazines and papers to read. The cafe is well situated for a morning pre-breakfast stroll from Brighton. I'll be back!

I am a returning customer - have been here for breakfast a few times with my partner and daughter and has always been ok hence returning. I WILL NOT be returning. I was sold freshly squeezed orange juice for almost £3 and it wasn’t freshly squeezed it was a mixture of squash and juice and a ton of ice in a tiny glass. I complained and they came back with another small glass with slightly darker juice - I tasted it and it was disgusting so I asked for my money back. Then I was served the most disappointing breakfast bap with soggy uncooked bacon I mean who can eat all that white fat on the bacon when it hasn’t even been fried properly ? I made all of this clear at the time I am not just coming on here and complaining afterwards. Don’t think anyone cared. Very different to the experiences I’ve had here before. To make matters worse.... saw the owner come in with his budget supermarket supplies. Now I know I can get better quality at other establishments I won’t be coming here again they don’t deserve the business from me with so much competition around. Tasteless eggs and bacon and false advertising of “freshly squeezed orange juice” is a compete CON!

Have been here a few times this year for breakfast and it is worth the visit - fresh, hot, tasty and very fresh generous platefuls. Great tea and coffees and amazing fresh orange juice compliment your breakfast feast.

I have a friend who is a vegan who wanted a good breakfast. I looked up this place as it provided a vegan breakfast. The service was good and friendly, not pushy. They provided reasonably good food at a good price! I would recommend this place who were big on breakfast!

Arrived today on day 3 of our bands tour. All feeling a little worse for wear, but we were greeted by the nicest staff going and super good food. We all feel better now. Vegan breakfast was boss too. Would love to go back again.

Stopped here for a big breakfast with a large group of us after playing a gig the night before. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and accommodating of our large group. I had the full English which was excellent, but had serious breakfast envy of a friend who ordered the eggs Royale. Freshly squeezed orange was a real highlight for me. Will be sure to return next time we’re in Brighton!

Called in on this place for a coffee with my wife. She had an Americano and I wanted a Dry Cappuccino. When I asked about it the lady asked what it was. That’s good work. If you don’t know then ask! Well done. So I explained and she said that’d be fine. Then my wife snuck in an order for a croissant so I ordered a bacon sandwich. Coffees were brought to our table. Top quality coffee and the Cappuccino how I like it. Croissant was warm. Bacon was good quality. Well done Richards! I’ll be back.

Visited for Sunday morning breakfast. Went for the vegetarian breakfast with cup of tea. Food was lovely and the staff very warm and friendly. Special mention to Barbara. Will come back soon.

Nice good quality traditional English food particularly like the baked potatoes, omelettes and breakfasts. Reasonably priced except for the coffee which is a tad expensive! They do a lot in take away sandwiches made to order. Staff are very friendly and helpful only a small place but always busy which tells its own tale.

We visited this lovely cafe for lunch and were welcomed by the very friendly staff & owner. Food excellent, freshly cooked & very tasty. Really enjoyed our lunch, generous portions & very tasty. Thank you we will be back next time we are in the area.

Have been going to Richards now for a few years. The food has always been good up until recently and the service is extremely slow. Today I ordered a pannini to take away. I waited for 15 mins for this pannini which when you only get 30 minutes lunch break really isn't good enough. This isn't the first time I have waited this long - if you want a hot sandwich then this seems to be the norm. When I got back to work to eat the pannini it was dry and the bacon was so crispy it had a horrible taste. At nearly £5 for a pannini it is safe to say I won't be returning.

Richard went above and beyond to seat 14 friends. On a saturday the breakfast was so good we come back the sunday to. Staff were amazing, so lovely and friendly. We had two gluten free they also catered a full english breakfast for.

Nice place for lunch with friends with hot and cold sandwich options, various eggs and sardines on toast (so 70s), and the best fish finger sandwich. It's made from regular fish fingers - not home made - because why ruin the perfection of a fish finger, and lashings of rocket. Choice of bread and add your own sauce. Lovely ad are the attentive staff.

Met with our daughter and her partner for breakfast last Sunday. Café was full but Barbara was great and soon sorted us out with a table for us all to sit at together. Lovely food/drink and entertaining banter between Barbara and my husband, who is also Scottish :) We always go to Richard's when we visit family in Hove, a little gem, can't wait to see what the refurb is like.

I asked for a goat cheese sandwich and it looked so terrible and the taste was not good. I think it was made with supermarket ingredients and if I tried to cook it at home it would have tasted better.

The poached eggs were done well but pretty much everything else (including the hollandaise sauce) came out of the microwave. It would be better to adjust the menu to what a small kitchen can cope with than offer a large range and microwave it all.
