Lovely restaurant, definitely one of the best eateries on Belsize Lane. Just a short walk from Swiss Cottage station. Friendly waiting staff, gave us a window seat. This is a well organised eatery doing traditional Greek food. Interesting menu items to choose from. We started with their melitzanosalata : grilled aubergines blended with olive oil, sesame oil and garlic, lovely home made humus and gigantes : stewed butter beans with tomatoes, olive oil, herbs and garlic sauce. Mains were grilled marinated octopus served with mixed veg, a grilled seabass with steamed mixed veg and a huge Greek Salad. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food that was on offer. We had a great meal here before checking out the excellent market on Belsize Lane.

This restaurant is amazing!!!! The decoration is nice and simple with great atmosphere. The Greek music in the background travels you there. The service was exceptional!!! Everyone was friendly and very helpful. Last but not least, the food was one of the best Greek food I have had in London. Tried the avgolemono soup which reminded me the way my grandma used to cook it(I didn’t even take a photo of it cause it was vanished in seconds lol) and the chicken souvla was so nicely seasoned and tender. Definitely going back for more!!!

A truly charming restaurant in a small lovely square. We tried different plates and everything was fresh and delicious - mixed grilled meats, chicken souvla, wings, fried calamari and baklava among others accompanied by a glass o crisp house wine. Very nice staff and caring owner. Reasonably priced. We will be back.

Gordon Ramsay was right the octopus was extremely tender and well executed. Also, best chicken I've ever had (chicken souvla) and really nice tzaziki!

One of the best Greek restaurants in London to me so far.

Although the food and service at this restaurant are, for the most part, excellent, I felt rather disappointed by the dessert while dining here on one occasion earlier this summer. Following a very satisfying main course, I asked to take a look at the dessert menu. To my surprise, there were no prices alongside each item, which was especially incongruous because the main menu did display prices. I ordered the Greek yogurt with honey, which is a very simple, light dessert comprising basic ingredients. When the pudding arrived, the honey was conspicuous by absence because, I was told, they had run out of it. Instead, I had a bowl with yogurt garnished solely with toasted pine nuts. It was tasteless; as anyone knows, the honey defines the dish! To cap it all, when the bill arrived, I discovered the cost of the Greek yogurt without bee nectar (the price of a dessert, having merited no mention on the menu, suddenly reared its head and became important where the bill is concerned!). It was a whopping £7! I was flabbergasted. Without a key ingredient, it should have been a fraction of that price as a concession. Why had nobody just popped to a local shop to pick up a jar of honey during the day? I would also suggest restoring prices to the dessert menu. There can be no earthly justification for hiding them. Unfortunately, the dessert fiasco overshadowed the other parts of the meal, which, in fairness, were very good indeed.

Haven’t been back for some years so was delighted it was still here. Family run restaurant serving authentic Greek dishes. The food was full of flavour and generous portions. We will certainly be back again.

Had a lovely birthday celebration for my wife's birthday with my son at Retsina and as always the food was amazing. It is such a welcoming place to visit for a meal, with superbly cooked and authenic Greek cuisine. Every visit is a pleasure and we will keep coming back. Highly recommended.

Having moved to SW London I’ve not been to Retsina’s in a fair few years. I took my grandmother for a midweek dinner and was so relieved to be reminded at what a special independent restaurant this is. We were made to feel so welcome, the service so friendly and accommodating (from seating me early with nibbles to charging my phone). The new decor is bright, fresh and modern but still feels intimate. The foooood - Devine fresh sardines, my grandmother loved her vege moussaka and the crisp Greek white wine was a total treat. The bill was very reasonable, we vowed we’d never return to our usual chain haunts! As per Jamie Olivier’s awards that this restaurant won so deservedly - I hope everyone supports restaurants like this locally. Great local restaurants, brilliant service and food at a fair price still clearly still exists, no ‘we need the table back in 90mins’ here - just unfortunately for me, it’s in North London ha! We’ll visit again soon though x

Great food, really nice atmosphere Highly recommend the lamb

Recently visited this place for lunch with some friends. We were really looking forward to some good authentic food but unfortunately it did not meet up to our expectations, despite the restaurant's rating and awards. Food was below average quality and with very small quantities considering the prices (overpriced - spent £40/person for 2 dips, 2 starters, 2 sides and 3 mains in total). Also took a long time to receive the mains. Being Greek ourselves, we are native to Greek food flavours, the quality but also quantity/prices. Unfortunately this was not a good experience.

Truly disappointing. Tasteless food. Oily calamari that had no flavour. Bland. Kleftico signature dish bland. Expected delicious food considering the way the restaurant represents itself. Portions ungenerous. £50.00 for two main courses and a bottle of water. No sides. Expensive but might be worth it if it was exceptional. But really poor eating experience.

We were looking for a nice place to celebrate Easter Sunday and Retsina didn’t disappoint! Tasty food (highlights were the kleftiko and chicken souvla, so tender!), generous portions, very attentive service and relaxing vibe. We will be back!

The water was bad plastic bottle,,and then ice cream 🍨 was stander from non branded . But I love the place as I know them since ten years ago.the food is quality as always.also they are a lovely family.

The best Greek restaurant I have been to outside of Greece! I have visited so many times over the years and tried various dishes. I cannot fault this restaurant the slightest. The service is always excellent especially when it comes to the owners Zeta and Hary! The food is always obviously fresh and very tasty. The portions are generous and very filling. The only issue is all the dishes are so nice you don't know what to chose! If you are a seafood fan I highly recommend the baby calamari, grilled octopus and chargrilled prawns. These are a personal favourite. I am always amazed at how soft the calamari and octopus which are consistently cooked to perfection. A meaty personal favourite are the lamb cutlets always cooked precisely and are tender and juicy. If you are someone who would like to try many new flavours I would suggest trying the Meze options which is good value for money and also gives you a wide selection of the flavours. Highly, highly recommend if you like good food!

Excellent Greek restaurant in the heart of Belsize Village. The food is superb and a very good selection of meze the traditional Greek food. The mixed platters are huge and for 2 people you will definitely eat well I ended up takign some home! It's a good choice of you like Greek and if you are looking for a nice place to eat with family and friends. Good wine list and lots of vegetarian options

This restaurant is worth going to but if it is cold outside do not sit next to the windows, they are drafty. Food was delicious and good size portions. We did not believe that a Greek restaurant had run out of baklava. We will go back.

Best Greek food available in London. If you're looking for avgolemono that's just like yiayias and replenishes your soul when you are unwell, this is the place. Koftetes took me back to my childhood. Perfect kalamari, second only to that in the actual Peloponnese. Just beautiful food all round that truly takes you back home. I've been back two days in a row and will continue returning

We had a large birthday party for my mum. The restaurant and staff are amazing. Food is high quality and generous, wine is amazing, staff are super friendly. This is a second generation family restaurant which is operating at the highest level. Everyone in our group of 50 people was super complementary and we had an exceptional evening. Thank you!

The best Greek food I ever had, Taste of Cyprus and Greece, very welcoming, warm atmosphere. Had the best experience ever. The flavours are absolutely superb, real respect for the whole team. Chefs are excellent (Cyprus lady and Greek husband) every service team were polite, lovely. Nice music also. Great teamwork.

Very welcoming atmosphere. The service was friendly and efficient. The portions are large, the food fresh and the prices reasonable. I was expecting more tasty tomatoes though and I found the lamb moussaka a bit bland. I will give it another try.

Delicious, friendly, authentic. A great place to spend an evening with friends. The starters range from Taramasalata to Grilled Calamari. The Mains are all traditional dishes.

This place has been our favourite place to eat authentic delicious food. We loved the food, atmosphere and the fact that is being run by a family. The food is still good and taste nice. However it seems the recent economic pressures has left it marks on the business. On my most recent visit you can see changes on the menu , size and quality of the portions that leave a bad taste in your mouth. I strongly recommend to revisit their approach doing business and prioritise food quality, friendly service rather than adopting less nice strategies to increase profit and so on. If you need to charge more for food then let’s charge more rather than introducing cover charge, service charge and so on.

Amazing food! The staff is so lovely.

This was our first visit to Retsina and the food was very good. We all had the Meze with additional dishes added in although some of the dishes didn't arrive however, we weren't charged for them. The first waiter who took our drinks order wasn't very friendly at all but the waiter who served our food was very friendly and attentive. The only thing that I would point out is the condition of the toilets down stairs. They weren't great, they smelt awful and were not very clean especially the floor. I know they are toilets but it's a shame because I think it lets down the restaurant as it would put me off returning again. Overall we enjoyed our meal and the food is very authentic as confirmed by my Greek husband!!

Amazing Greek food, Amazing Service and Amazing people!!! We have Holidayed in the Greek Islands many times, and this brought back great memories!!! Brought our American family with us and this was a great introduction to Greek food. They loved everything they ate!

Service throughout painfully slow, serving spoons always missing. Vegetarian starters overall very good, but the falafels were dry. Main veg moussaka disappointing, no taste of tomatoes, herbs or creamy topping. Up to now I would say everything was passable but the dessert of yoghourt, honey and walnuts was the worse I've tasted - how do you get a simple dessert so wrong? The yoghurt was gelatinous (was it low fat?), the honey was the worst ever, more like sugary syrup and the walnuts were blitzed to powder! Finally our bill was wrong, 3 items added and 3 missing. These guys really need to pay more attention to detail and customers.

Always a delight to ring ‘Mama’ & book a table here. All the food is perfect and prompt and fresh. And all the staff are as lovely and polite & professional as ‘Mama’. Lamb and beef dishes which dissolve in the mouth, plus delicious fish and a range of great starters - all far better than an average Greek restaurant.

Lovely atmosphere. Good traditional Greek food. Do read the very small print on the menu so you don't get a nasty surprise because the cover charge plus the service charge add substantially.

My main issue is a table of 15 people half of whom are kids £600 and you served drinks in cans charged £4 for water. Starters were just put in middle of table and we had to pass them around. Food was ok but not the standard expected for the price.

Service was good but I didn’t like the food. Calamaris weren’t great, the octopus bland, the chicken kebab was dry and the meat moussaka was average.

Picked this restaurant to eat off TripAdvisor today and wow what a good choice. My wife is Cypriot and she said that the Avgolemono soup was a good as her late mother's. My son had the Kletfiko which fell off the bone. All of our food was delicious. We will be back.

I walked in and there were 6+ empty tables. The hostess just seated another couple but refused to seat my family and I because “the kitchen will be busy”. I did not get to eat even though there were empty tables and no reservations

Except for the squid starter that was very nicely done and tasty, the rest of the dinner was below par and rather disappointing. Strange service. Mediocre wine list. Will not be repeated and we discouraged our friends. Go next door, much better

Nice food from starters to the mains. It was our first time coming to this restaurant and we ordered various dishes to sample what they had to offer. Generally they all tasted good. The portions were quite generous for the platters. The bill was reasonable. They do include 12.5 % service charge and also a 'cover charge'. I find the cover charge a bit perplexing as this was not stated in the menu.

Came across this delightful restaurant having just driven down from Edinburgh. It was very busy and we had not booked but the friendly owner found us a table and we settled down. The homemade hummus was a very tasty starter and we had the chicken and lamb grilled kebabs were were so good with lovely rice and sides. It is clearly a place people return again and again and we will be back

AMAZING! I love food, good food and you will only find that at Retsina! The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the food…the food is incredible! We had mixed starters for the table and I had lamb for my main. Admittedly I had the Octopus from my partner too and it was simply delicious…will be returning!!! Update 05/10 We returned to this amazing restaurant to celebrate a birthday and it continues to amaze, food is just incredible coupled with friendly staff and great location!! *****

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at Retsina. The lamb kleftiko and beef stifado were delicious. Waiting staff were very busy but remained friendly and attentive. I would recommend calling ahead to book a table next to the window to get the best seats.
