Restaurant at The Greyhound Inn in Monmouthshire

Shocking attitude off staff and owner..! Told to drink bottles a not allowed to drink pints from the bar as the place is too busy to serve from the bar!!! Served cold scabby hotdog out side in freezing conditions -5 !! Used to be such a beautiful happy pub but since take over by new owners it’s gone to the dogs!! Won’t eat or drink here again or recommend the place to anyone after 20 years of coming to the pub!!! So so so sad!! 0/5 for me !!!!!

We visited a week ago for the Ocktoberfest celebration. We had a lovely evening, excellent food and staff, the venue has been decorated in an Alpine style and looks amazing. We also visited again today for Sunday lunch - always had hard act for anyone to follow as my husband does the best Sunday lunch, however The Greyhound didn’t disappoint, we were a party of 7 and all agreed out meals were excellent. 6 of us had the traditional Sunday lunch - all the trimmings and lots of gravy. The 7th of the party has mussels and chips - again excellent. I would definitely recommend, a lovely venue & staff with excellent food.

Stayed here for 4 nights whilst working in Newport 13/11/23 what a lovely place thank u Kelly for making us T clarke workers happy , loved the open fire , the butty batch was perfect food was great , your hospitality was appreciated , staff members were all polite and helpful , looking forward to my next visit keep up the good work

On our way home from from a short break in Brecon Beacons we were in need of somewhere for lunch. Not a fan of fast food, google suggested this place. I rang and asked “can we come for lunch in 15-20mins please? There’s 4 of us”. To which the owners reply was “you come straight here, we’ll look after you”. And what a lovely lunch it was. Home cooked pub lunch clearly cooked with care by the chef. No fried frozen blandness. Everything was cut, seasoned and cooked by hand. Full of flavour. Friendly service. Such a nice vibe and atmosphere. The place was busy with both local and travellers. The best meal we had all trip! Thank you for having us

This is a fantastic find in a beautiful location, we had an amazing lunch here today. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely delicious, all freshly cooked and sourced from local suppliers. I would highly recommend from the Alpine street food - Bratkartoffeln, pan fried potatoes with bacon lardons, onions & 2 fried eggs as a shared starter. Mains were equally delicious, my pork stroganoff was mouth watering as was the 16oz gammon steak that my husband chose. Desserts, I had to try the home made Ferraro rocher cheese cake with blackcurrant n clotted cream ice cream - Mmmmmm. Honestly this place is amazing, the ambience and feel of the place is second to none, you left wanting more…… I would highly recommend!

A family lunch for 5. When we arrived we could hear oompah band music. And entering the pub we found out there was a winter Swiss Alpine fest. Which involved the waitresses wearing drindls and the men lederhosen! Slightly weird in a Welsh pub in October The menu did feature some Alpine fare including weiner schnitzel and French onion soup. The French onion soup (which three of us had) was delicious - though could have been hotter. We had a variety of dishes, steaks, schnitzel, curry and gammon. All in all good. (I'd rate "good" rather than very good.) Service very friendly

This venue is highly recommended. The food and service was first class for our birthday celebration with family and friends. Kelly and her team are amazing, and served drinks outside in the spacious terrace area, and we all enjoyed freshly cooked food from the extensive menu. The rooms are really comfortable with rustic furnishings and a newly renovated bathroom with walk in shower. Thank you, and we will definitely return.

Myself and 4 friends stayed at the Greyhound inn for a cycling weekend, the setting is great , we received a warm welcome we had booked 3 twin rooms all of which were spotless, the showers were very hot which was much needed after a days cycling , the evening meal we had was fantastic , a wide choice on the menu with good vegetarian options, the service we received from all of the staff was fantastic relaxed but professional which was perfect , If you are looking for a great place to stay around Usk look no further !

soup thick and gloopy with overpowering leek taste, squid rings, just 4 with some dip , chewy and costing £8, various meats were mostly good but vegetables very poor. Hard potatoes, honey roast vegetables tasteless and greens were cabbage , peas and courgettes ?. took 3 requests for a glass of water and the requested sauce did not appear at all. Generally not worthy of the prices asked.

Met family here for get together, all travelling to somewhere central for us, was a lovely pub with nice gardens, dining areas but the food was poor, especially for the prices they are charging, really don't mind paying for good food but £18 for one course roast, I expected something nice, the potatoes were raw, hard no hint of crispness or seasoning, the lamb was reheated and tough, had it been half the price probably would have thought fair enough but the price did not reflect the quality of the meal we had. My son had the Ragu, now we all love parmesan but this was drowned in it without us asking to the point you couldn't taste anything else, I worried they were making some other taste with the cheese. Shame as lovely place, french bowls out side, dog friendly and nice ambience. Hope they sort the food or pricing out.

We had an excellent evening a beautiful venue, the service was outstanding along with the food and ambience. A special mention to our waitress Carys along with all the girls who looked fab in their caps and made the atmosphere so enjoyable.

Myself, my wife our 10 year old son and our dog stayed at the Greyhound at around this time last year and we were so impressed that we stayed here again this August on another trip in and out of Wales (two nights out of the three stays this year we had my parents in tow who were equally impressed) . Everything feels just right - the lovely presented gardens, the wonderful food, the really helpful and cheery staff and the way that our dog is treated just as well as we were. The doggy paddock is a fantastic touch, as is the dog welcome pack in the room and not forgetting the doggy sausage our hound was rewarded with each morning for breakfast. Kelly and Steve really know how a pub with accommodation should be run and their attention to detail (the little blackboard with our name on at our breakfast table, the welsh cakes and local teas in our rooms, etc.) is spot on. This place also had a real mix of guests - from tourists heading in or out of Wales, passing cyclists stopping off for a pint, locals playing boules in the back garden and, of course, dog lovers. We will definitely paying another visit in the not too distant future. In fact, our son has declared The Greyhound as his favourite place to stay... in the World ever!

Most Establishments say "dog friendly"but have restrictions I always feel a bit put out when they say you can eat in the bar when my dog as more manners than most.The Greyhound Inn go the extra mile for pooches Our french bulldog loved the exercise paddock and also sat next to us when we dined and was also included at Breakfast where alot of thought went into the table planning and splendid welcome notice on the table.The staff were excellent you got eye contact and was acknowledged even when busy .The food I would describe as borderline fine dining with plenty of menu choices , The pub itself has plenty of character and the outside area is Divine the gardens are well maintained and patio area of great taste. When leaving my pooch didn't want to go we travelled all over Wales this week and this place blew the other properties we stayed at out of the water .When we do return I do recommend the rooms on ground level they opened up onto the lawn with a small patio area.See you Soon ! We stayed at the Greyhound Inn for two nights and had one dinner and two breakfasts. The breakfasts were good though the background music was irritating at 7.30am- Country and Western !! Our room was clean and had the key facilities, but it was unbearably hot. It was impossible to leave windows open at night as there is a busy dual carriageway road 100 yards from the sleeping accommodation with continuous traffic noise. We found two fans, but they were completely inadequate. Each room should be fitted with an air conditioning unit- this is essential.
