Fire & Fork in Monmouthshire

We visited as a couple in March ‘24 and were blown away by this place. We returned recently with friends who were visiting the area and unfortunately I wish we’d taken them somewhere else. The menu has been stripped down to essentially burgers and a couple of other bits. “The works”, a platter of all sorts of BBQ bits and was amazing last time is no longer on the menu (although is still showing on the menu online!). Service was poor. Food took 45 minutes to come and when it did, our starters were served at the same time as our mains meaning that they were essentially side dishes. This was blamed on a new member of staff putting it all through at once. Me and a mate both ordered the bacon double cheeseburger and loaded fries. Both came with regular fries and had to be taken back and changed. We both said the burgers were poor. Buns and meat were dry and tasteless and just disintegrated. I had a big chunk of gristle in mine. They were both smothered in sickly sweet BBQ sauce. One of us had the flat iron steak which was poor quality and difficult to cut. My wife had belly pork which she said she couldn’t fault. Asked for salt & vinegar which never came. Staff weren’t that attentive and had to call a waitress over to order another round of drinks. Won’t be going back in a hurry given the choice available in Abergavenny.

When you go to a restaurant that advertises itself as 'Open fire cooking', that's kinda what you expect. Not a plate of grilled, pan-fried, or boiled ingredients covered in a sickly-sweet barbecue sauce. On the whole, it was...ok...ish...but not what was expected. Drinks were prompt, but my pint of Ale had either been left in the line, or the line hadn't been cleaned in a while, so was on the verge of being fruity. The menu provided bore little relation to that online, the service was a little lacklustre, and it's clear that no-one has been trained in proper service. A real food marker was the Mac 'n' Cheese that was smothered in the aforementioned barbecue sauce that masked any other flavour. This place could be good due to its uniqueness, but it can't use that as its USP. We only visited as the Mother-in-Law lives locally, but sadly we won't be back.

Really disappointing. We'd eaten here before and had great food so we had been looking forward to it. The menu has been cut down to mainly burgers - most of the 'American smokehouse' food advertised on the website seems to have gone, which is what we came here for. Three of us ordered flat iron steaks, which were tasteless and gristley in places The chips were standard pub-grub style, and the 'house salad' looked like supermarket bagged salad. One of us had belly pork, which was apparently much nicer. Apparently they have had chef problems, but if we'd known all the good stuff had been axed from the menu we wouldn't have gone. Service was well-meaning but a bit chaotic. They asked my name four times when we arrived and seemed confused about where to seat us, although the place was almost empty - not surprisingly as maybe word has got round this place has gone dramatically downhill.

What a mess. Made a booking for 14:00 today and received confirmation yesterday. Travelled 50 minutes to get here. Arriving in the carpark we were told by a guy in chefs whites that they’re closed. Apparently the chef walked out last week and they’ve been refurbing the kitchen since. No owners on site. No apology. Don’t bother.

Booked months before for friends from Lincolnshire who really wanted to try this place when they came to stay with us, we’d been before and thought it was just ok. Turned up with friends on Sunday to a reduced menu, ok not great but will pick from that, Lamb on menu off, Chicken on menu off, flies circulating table also so we just left, which they weren’t bothered about, when we asked why there was so little choice we were told ‘oh we had a BBQ last night’ not at all impressed and won’t be back

Visited Fire and Fork on Saturday for their open fire BBQ, and they did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the piri piri chicken and smashed potatoes with alioli—they need to be a permanent fixture on the menu. The service was incredible, the atmosphere was great with live music, and their new garden is fantastic too. Great job all around—we will 100% be back!

What a fantastic afternoon just spent in fire and fork Abergavenny. First time we have been here and what a brilliant atmosphere in the beer garden, live music and incredible food. Staff were all very good and attentive, brilliant place and we will be back regularly I would have thought. Please don’t hesitate to come here, you won’t be disappointed. Top top class 👏

I was so looking forward to our anniversary meal together... the pleasant ambiance and friendly waiting staff at Fire and Fork initially created a positive impression, but the evening took a turn for the worse when it came to service and food. An inordinate wait of an hour for someone to take our order, even after prompting, was unacceptable. The promise of a 10-minute wait for food was also misleading, with our meals arriving 25 minutes later. We arrived at 7.30, our order was taken eventually at about 8.25 and our food didn't arrive for another 25 minutes. So, don't arrive hungry! Weirdly though, no-one else seemed to be being served either. On to the food ..The belly pork was tasty, but the accompanying salad was a mere handful of undressed leaves, clearly from a cheap bag, falling far short of my expectation of a salad. It's a shame, as with better management and attention to detail, this restaurant could be much better. On the plus side, they did give us a drink on the house and a 20% discount for the inconvenience which was appreciated.

We have been at least 4 times and each time we have had a great experience. The staff are always welcoming, the food is exactly how we remembered it from the previous visit and a great selection of drinks too. Fab place, is always a pleasure to visit. If you are a foodie who likes food full of flavour, this is the place for you!

Food was great but as it was Sunday lunch the menu was a bit limited. Will definitely come back when the burgers and beef ribs are on the menu!

We went to the Fire & Fork for Sunday lunch and it was excellent, the service was great, we both had the same 3 courses Beef Cigars to start, and the were just right enough but not to much, for the main course we had the Smoked Brisket again just right, but this is not your traditional Sunday lunch so go there expecting loads of roast and boiled potatoes. For desert we hat the deep fried Apple pie it was again delicious, the only reason for four stars was we were sat by a table of very loud young ladies but they left after about 30 minutes so because quieter, will be going back to try the main menu soon

Visited fire and fork last night for my sister in laws birthday, the restaurant itself had a friendly rustic feel to eat and the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, the food was absolutely gorgeous and the burnt ends starter was delicious, food was plentiful and cooked to perfection, my chosen desert was not my cup of tea and the staff was more then happy to change it for me for free and it out charge, needless to say a good tip was given to the staff for excellent service, going again at end of March and looking forward to it already

Had been wanting to try Fire and Fork for ages after hearing some great reviews and I can confirm all great reviews are a perfect reflection of the place. A really friendly welcome upon arrival, got seated straight away. Large choice of drinks which took a little while to come however we did order cocktails. Ordered starter and main course which swiftly arrived.. beef cigars and pork burnt ends both delicious!! Our mains arrived shortly after, the meat was melt in the mouth. Slightly different to a traditional roast which we liked and the cauliflower cheese is 10/10! Tiny tiny thing, not an issue for me but a friend mentioned home made Yorkshires would have been the only improvement. We also had pudding as it was only £30 for 3 courses which is very reasonable for the portions and quality of the food. Really lovely atmosphere and will definitely be back! Thanks Steve and Co for putting up with 5 very loud girls who shouldn’t be allowed out on a Sunday.

Sunday food was lovely a bit too much spice for a roast. Service was TERRIBLE could hear or understand the servers. Decent price but three items to choose from which was not stated on the website when looking to book.

Fire & Fork was an amazing experience to say the least. With a wide range of drinks and food, we could of chose everything! I highly recommend the tater tots! Friendly staff and quick service. Was very disappointing Sunday lunch. Everything tasted of curry spices even the cauliflower cheese which didn't seem to have any cheese in it at all. Brisket was lovely but that was it. Brocolli tasted of paraffin and shop bought Yorkshire puddings weren't even cooked. Desert was stunning though. For £30 for 3 courses I expected a lovely lunch.

Absolutely freezing cold in there today , I ordered the belly pork that wasn’t particularly warm, the steak wasn’t cooked and almost raw, and the burgers were overly greasy. I asked for diet lemonade and was told they didn’t have diet they only stock the cheapest lemonade that was the waiter’s response and to be fair I appreciated her honesty. The ladies toilets were dirty and could have done with a deep clean. This place was recommended to me with the quote the food is great, our party of four was disappointed, it’s been opened up in a prime location and would expect quality food, definitely won’t be returning.

Really recommend fire and fork. The food and service was exceptional. The waiting staff were really lovely and friendly and there was just a really nice atmosphere in there. Very chilled and enjoyable. The food was as good as it looks, ridiculously delicious as well as good portion sizes. Everything tasted delicious. Really recommend 'the works'! This is an incredible addition to Abergavenny. There’s nothing like fire and fork around, with incredible brisket and delicious burgers! The sharing platter is to die for and the wings are the best we’ve ever had! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will absolutely be back soon. Insane!!
