We chose to stop here specifically as there was a rapid charger for our EV. The grounds are relaxing and quiet. The conservatory restaurant had a good atmosphere and the service friendly and courteous. We had the Gnocchi and Ploughmans for lunch. Both were very tasty and well presented. Puddings were light and refreshing. Prices are not cheap but good food is worth paying for. Having tried out the restaurant and general ambience we are very likely to arrange a weekend break here soon.

The food was beautiful - full marks to the chefs! The majority of the waiting staff were incredible and so attentive and helpful. Unfortunately the restaurant manager tried to push the chef’s experience package on to us but we wanted neither that much food nor that much wine! We are not big drinkers. However the restaurant manager made us feel inferior for only ordering a starter, main and dessert and not the 7 course experience. He gave a comment of ‘just lemonade?’ when I ordered my drink. Facial expressions speak a thousand words and he’s no poker player! My partner and I were made to feel second rate on his birthday celebration.

Booked 24-hrs in advance, and despite a glitch with the online booking system, the reservation was handled professionally over the phone. Spent half an hour exploring the grounds (not particularly impressive in December) before enjoying afternoon tea in the magnificent restaurant. Although there was a wedding on in the main hall, the afternoon tea service was good - a slight debacle over whether one diner's salmon sandwiches could be swapped for an alternative led to a somewhat unecessary discussion and clearance with the chef could have been handled with a little less drama, but all in all this was definitely an afternoon tea to be recommended.

What an evening!! I took my mother to the Armada restaurant for her birthday and I'm so glad I did. It was amazing, we opted for the a la carte menu (I had the crab ravioli then beef fillet and cheek; my mother had the scallops and turbot, followed by the honey parfait). The execution was faultless. We are huge foodies and our meal at the Armada was up there; the beef was better than you'd find in any top London steak restaurant (the most tender and flavoursome, with a superb accompanying shallot tatin) and the ravioli was possibly the best I've ever eaten. The wood panelled interior and high ceiling only heightened the experience - it was beautiful and the service was incredibly efficient, informative and friendly. Recommendations were perfectly on point and hugely helpful (this was also true of cocktails and accompanying wines as well). Special thanks to Kirk who could not have done more to make it a wonderful evening. We will definitely be back and would gladly recommend the Armada! A must visit if you're in the area!!!

A close friend and I enjoyed a delicious lunch with excellent service and superb views across the pool. The Beef and Lamb shank dishes we ordered were well presented and very tasty, the meats being especially tender. Our enjoyment of the occasion was enhanced by our waiter, Angel, who was attentive and sociable without being overbearing. This was our first time at The Rhinefield Hotel and we intend to return in the spring to see more of the hotel's wonderful grounds and enjoy another excellent meal.

We just had the Cream Tea and luckily - albeit July - the weather was just about ok to eat outside. We were however, informed that a table had been laid up inside in addition to outside - just in case the weather didn’t hold, which was a nice touch. Nicely laid out table just in front of gorgeous lawn and the stunning hotel. Prompt service and a great way for my Mum to celebrate her ‘31st Birthday’ ! Good scones although the tea could have been warmer but we did have the opportunity to re-order should we have wished to. Many thanks to George and Bradley for great service with a smile - or at least we imagined so behind the masks! Just one improvement - in these Covid times - perhaps let guests who are going to sit outside, come in via the drive/garden so that they don’t have to walk through the hotel…

The location was lovely, but I was a disappointed with the afternoon tea. My partner does not eat cheese but wanted the savoury afternoon tea. He was told that most of the items on the savoury tea were cheesy and it would not be worth it. This was not the case. He had the traditional afternoon tea, but it still turned up with salmon and cream cheese and cheese and pickle sandwiches. The waiter did not think to swap them out for a non cheese variety of sandwich or even ask! This left him with only 2 sandwiches. The fillings were not generous and spread thinly inside. I have been to many places for afternoon tea and the staff are usually very accommodating. I would not go here again.

Afternoon tea was pleasant and relaxed. An evening in the bistro the following day was also very pleasant and offered good food and space to enjoy diner with friends. Evening dining in the Armada three days later was incredibly poor. Very lovely food spoiled by chaotic, poor/rude/surly and unprofessional table service. More embarrassing as we recommended our friends travel to join us and had asked for a particular table which was offered to another party. when we got the correct menu it was a lovely meal spoilt. Someone please show our waiter how to clear a table in a restaurant, (dont drip gravy off a handful of cutlery held over a lap or start to clear a table and walk away putting items back on the table before you go) please explain you do not tell the guests which of the staff are not doing their jobs properly, please do not lay food down with a sarcastic 'your special order sir' when it was actually the choice ordered from the menu , reordered as the wrong choice was initially delivered, and please sort out the communication with the bar. When all three tables of diners are all missing wine and asking 4 or 5 staff for water, are waiting for service and 4 or 5 staff are literally tripping over each other to not serve, clear or bring drinks, something is wrong. A gesture was made with a complimentary glass of wine and feedback was appreciated after our friends had gone while a service charge was still added to the bill. The restrictions and space limitations must make service especially difficult but the attitude of staff was poor and covid or not, a table can still be cleared without spraying guests with food or bubbling on a colleague.

Our first Sunday lunch in the wonderful historic Armada room at Rhinefield House. There was a very good value two course menu on offer for £25.50.For a starter I chose the duck liver terrine which I couldn't fault but it merely whetted the appetite for the main course.I chose Turkey from the array of 5 choices, my partner chose beef and was equally full of praise. It was accompanied by crispy roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, beans, carrots, cauliflower cheese and broccoli. Not only was every part of the meal perfectly cooked, it was a huge portion, particularly of the meat. The staff were wonderful, well informed, friendly, attentive everything you would expect at a restaurant of this calibre. Certainly among my top 10 Sunday lunches ever.

Afternoon tea as a belated Christmas present. It was worth the wait. There was a hiccup in dealing with an individual’s food intolerance, which had been explained by phone, but it did not spoil the occasion. Good service, with a lively (albeit a bit loud) waiter. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 in the Armada Restaurant at Rhinefield House. Lovely wood-panelled dining room and tables set appropriately apart, without losing any of the convivial atmosphere. Staff all wearing masks and very polite, professional and welcoming. The beef and pork dishes were very good - no 'Aunt Bessie's' roast potatoes here! Perfect herbs and seasoning balance. Service unobtrusive and efficient, with any requests swiftly dealt with. Beautiful setting and close to stunning autumn walks - very busy at start of half-term though. Food excellent, however... We requested an outdoor table for afternoon tea to be as socially distant as possible. Upon arrival we were told that we had to enter the main hotel and wind our way through all the corridors, passing other hotel guests who were checking in along the way. An unnecessary risk that we were forced into taking by the hotel staff. There was no option to simply walk to our outdoor table because all the gates were closed off, meaning that everyone had to enter the hotel to have their temperatures checked. Surely this could also be done for guests who have arrived outside to dine? There really was no need for us to go inside the hotel upon arrival and departure, putting us and others at risk. After finishing our food the waitress was unable to bring us our bill and asked us (again) to go into the bar to pay at the till. And on departure we had to go back into the hotel to find the exit door. The food was excellent, but we were very unimpressed with the safety protocols currently in place. Come on Rhinefield House - you can do better than this!

Stunning sandwiches, flavoursome savoury items (mini burger, fish goujons, quiche, pork pie, cheese scone) and decadent sweet options, including gorgeous cream tea. We felt very spoilt!! The setting is nice, the service is welcoming . We decided on a Caesar salad , keeping it simple, what could go wrong. Well, everything. It was the blandest, cheapest looking salad you had ever seen, the flavour matched that. The insult was that they charged £5 to add chicken, on top of an already £10 price point. So that's £15 for a salad, this is gonna knock my socks off surely. Nope. Bland chicken, shop bought (most likely in an industrial plastic container) dressing, and Im pretty sure it was some cheap cheddar cheese grated over the top of it, and shop bought flavourless croutons. Lazy...lazy...lazy! We were actually considering staying at the hotel, but if they can't get a salad right, then how will standards be in the rest of the hotel. Shame.

This was not the first time we have visited the Armada Restaurant for dinner. Definitely fine dining and as has always been the case we had an excellent, well prepared meal. After starters my wife had salmon and I had roast pork. However, service was not what it should have been. After taking our places in the exceptional "old world" dining room we ordered drinks. At the 3rd attempt they arrived after the first order seemed to have been forgotten and at the 2nd attempt we were given the wrong drinks. Our starters and main dishes eventually arrived and were thoroughly enjoyed. We then decided that we would have desserts. Well we waited and waited and eventually we were asked if we would like desserts. By that time we had lost interest and decided to pay our bill and leave. We could not work out what had happened to the service. We were served by about 4 staff members for different parts of the meal and there did not seem to be a shortage of staff despite being a full restaurant. They were just not organised. Well when we left we were given an apology for a rather "bumpy ride". A good summary of the service and to be fair we were not charged for our drinks. I am sure we will return as we have not had this problem before.JS Newbury November 2019.

Due to the nice weather we were able to have drinks in the gardens and take a very pleasant stroll around the attractive and well kept grounds. The food was very nice overall but it was perhaps marginally overpriced given the quality wasn’t perfect (hotel premium I suppose). For instance the cheese and biscuits appeared pre-plated and came with blue cheese my wife had asked to be removed (plus the waiter couldn’t actually tell us what cheeses were included). My crumble wasn’t piping hot either and the crab fritter was a little lacking in flavour as well. We had a very nice evening meal at the Armada Restaurant at Rhinefield House. The impressive (imposing) front of the building sets you with high expectations, and I say that the food we had came close to matching it. The wine list has some absolute gems if you like 2000 Bordeaux and don't have a footballer's salary! The grounds are worth walking if the weather is good. The only issue I have with the place is that there's a feel of the "business" in the air, whereas most top-class restaurants keep that aspect hidden from the diners. The staff, while helpful and professional, clearly have differing levels of expertise. All in all, a good night out.

We booked afternoon tea here for a local ladies group, some of whom are very elderly. We go to different venues each month in the local area and this was supposed to be our summer treat.

I booked Sunday lunch for my mother's 90th birthday; at time of booking I arranged for a bottle of prosecco and a celebration cake. On arrival, there were no directions to either the bar or the restaurant. I asked for the prosecco at the bar while my party members arrived and was told initially that this wasn't possible as drinks come from different stocks. eventually the wine was provided.

We had dinner at the armada restaurant as a treat before we came home from our holiday. It was a treat. The venue is spectacular and the service is next to none. The staff are friendly polite well mannered. Attentive without being over bearing. My husband and I ate off the taste of Hampshire menus. My husband had salmon to start then the duo of beef and for dessert deconstructed cheesecake. I had pigeon to start the beef the same as my husband then I had the cheese and biscuits. All three courses were superb. I would have preferred a blue cheese rather than cheddar but the biscuits were hand made and tasted divine. I then had a coffee as I was the driver and unfortunately it was cold. I should have said but I drank it cold. So my fault really as I’m sure they would have changed it. I would recommend as a place to go if your in the new Forrest as it just should not be missed. A really wonderful end to our holiday. My husband has said so many times I am going to go there and we never do but this holiday we did. We will be back. Felt like a princess in here. Treated so amazingly by your staff.

To Rhinefield House, to exchange our Loyalty Club vouchers for a three-course table d’hote dinner before they expired. We were impressed by the positive attitude of Tatiana in Reception, who had a record of our booking and happily escorted us along the winding route to the restaurant, where we were handed over to a charming French gentleman who took our drinks order. I had a very pretty G&T; with local gin; it was pink, because there were pomegranate seeds in it.

We had the three-course set dinner menu at £39 a head this week and it was very good indeed. For starters we tried the breast of wood pigeon and the ham hock presse with tempura shrimps. Both lovely.

We recently enjoyed afternoon tea with Prosecco on a 2 for 1 deal with Handpicked Hotels. The hotel itself is stunning and in a very attractive setting in the New Forest. We ate in the lounge bar which was a bit disappointing in appearance and we were seated where we had no view of the garden and were on the route taken by a stream of hotel guests being taken to their rooms. It was also disconcerting to watch guests walking passed wearing their bathrobes ! The tea and Prosecco were brought promptly but we waited over 40 minutes for the sandwiches and cakes. The staff did apologise and offered another glass of Prosecco. The sandwiches and cakes were all very nice and tasted homemade but the emphasis was more on cakes than savouries. All members of staff went out of their way to be friendly. It was a pleasant treat but it would have been rather too expensive at the full price.

We were staying at Chewton Glen and decided to try a restaurant listed in the New Forest. When we entered the Rhinefield House we asked where to find the Armada Room. The front staff seemed to be bothered that we had to ask. We were shown through a small hall and then seated by the window. Our waitress seemed very uncomfortable. After quite some time we were brought a menu... very old and dirty... and our drinks. We ordered appetizers and a main dish. The appetizers of salmon and feta cheese terrine were disgusting. Then the fun began. We waited for an hour as we saw other tables who were seated after us receive their food. We finally got up and told the manager we were leaving and would pay for our appetizers. He was very apologetic but offered no explanations. I hope someone comes in and hires new staff and a new chef for such a beautiful location.

I booked for four of us to have Sunday lunch using a Secret Escapes voucher. We were warmly welcomed after a somewhat fraut journey across a very busy New Forrest and seated quickly and efficiently in the Armada restaurant. Drinks were served, our orders taken and bread rolls arrived - they were delicious. The Sunday's roasts were excellent, as were the starters and desserts, all served by very friendly and attentive staff. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable couple of hours before commencing the return journey to Salisbury, again via a very, very busy New Forrest. Would we go again to Rhinefield for lunch or dinner - most certainly and I struggle to understand how other guests have found so much to moan about.

Had sunday lunch here such a nice place expected a la carte lunch in the main restaurant not in the brassiere I had a prawn cocktail a few very small prawns on a plate with a bit of salad on the side ! A counter where they served food from we could see our Yorkshire puddings put under heat lamps before we had starters? Sunday lunch should be an occasion shame not here.

A superb meal. Our starters were the scallops and pate, the main was beef wellington and duck, and we shared a creme brulee for pudding. Everything was superb, really excellent. This is a lovely historic pub in the New Forest with history of the building on the walls, including the landlords' names going back a couple of hundred years. Our waitress, Izzy, was efficient and polite. The best that we have experienced in the area.

We knew we would like this pub as soon as we walked in. The barman gave us such a welcome, told us where we could sit, what beer to try. Another lady on duty was also lovely, as well as the two ladies who served us breakfast. The 2nd lady knew I would have any yoghurt but strawberry and a small orange juice. Your staff are truly wonderful. Our room was at the front of the hotel, overlooking the pub garden and down into Burley itself. The room with no number, we wondered why, was it something spooky with all the witchcraft connections in the village? No, we did find out why, but I'm not telling! Our meals were really good - what a plate full. We recommend the pie of the day, sausages, and lasagne. Lovely pub grub. All served with a smile by Josh. The pub runs table service, which is a real treat and not something we've come across since Covid. Car park is always busy, because the pub is too. Lunches & dinners every day of the week and very popular. Alas no electric charging points for our car. Burley is ideally situated to visit lots of areas of interest, right in the National Park, but not far from the coast. Horses & cattle roam freely, plenty of horse dollops. Only a short walk & you're in open pasture. You can catch the open top tourist bus from Burley, and there are lots of little shops to browse round. We had a really lovely stay, and will be recommending this place to our family and friends.
