So disappointed to arrive last night for our restaurant reservation to be told "it's not in the book"! You are not able to book online therefore we phoned 3 weeks prior but obviously whoever took the call never "put it in the book". The fact we are on honeymoon made this even more disappointing.

We stayed for 3 nights, initially just booking dinner on the first night because we were a bit unsure of the fixed menu situation. We needn’t have worried it was some of the best food (if not the best )we ever eaten. We had a total of 18 courses and everyone of them was delicious and well worth the cost. The hotel itself is beautifully situated in the Borrowdale Valley set back a bit from the road witch meant the stay was very quiet and peaceful. On arrival we were welcomed by Mark who showed us to our room which was reasonably sized and seemed to have been recently refurbished . There was the usual tea, coffee biscuits etc and still and sparkling water. You have to preorder your breakfast the night before which turned out easier that we expected, with a good choice and the food itself was delicious. As I told Mark on leaving we will be back as soon as possible

ON A 6 DAY STAY AT LEATHES HEAD. WE CAME TO KESWICK TO VISIT MY FAMILY BEFORE MY GRANDDAUGHTER RETURNED TO UNIVERSITY. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. THE POSITION OF THE HOTEL IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE ROOM WAS ON THE GROUND FLOOR AND HAD ACCESSIBLE FACILITIES AS I AM DISABLED AND DEAF. WHEN WE ARRIVED WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO BOOKINGS AVAILABLE FOR DINNER UNTIL THE SATURDAY, THIS WAS ON WEDNESDAY! SO AFTER A LONG TIRING JOURNEY WE HAD TO GO OUT AND FIND A MEAL. BREAKFAST LOOKED TO BE A GOOD MENU. I CHOSE THE EGGS ROYALE - WOW I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS DISH SERVED WITH HUGE BONES IN THE SMOKED SALMON BEFORE!!!! I DREW THE WAITRESSES ATTENTION TO THIS BUT SHE MADE NO COMMENT. SATURDAY EVENING AND THE STARRED MICHELIN CHEF MENU - AS WE HAD BEEN EATING OUT BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM OF BOOKING A DINNER, I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS EXPERIENCE. AS A FORMER HOTEL KEEPER IN CHESHIRE I WOULD GIVE IT AN AVERAGE RATING - POLLOCK IS NOT THE TYPE OF FISH I WOULD RATE ON THIS TYPE OF MENU. WE ASKED THE MANAGER FOR A COPY OF THE MENU AS I WAS UNABLE TO TELL WHAT SOME OF THE DISHES WERE. WE NEVER RECEIVED A COPY. I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SPECIAL MENU AND VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO RESIDENTS. THE DINING ROOM HAD NO ATMOSPHERE AND CERTAINLY DINERS WERE NOT GIVEN A RECOMMENDED DRESS CODE. WHAT A SHAME IT COULD HAVE BEEN A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE IN SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PART OF THE UK.

Can highly recommend this perfectly located boutique hotel. On arrival we were given a warm welcome and a room upgrade from Tracey who really understands how to run a successful hotel. Our room was perfect with wonderful views from both sides. The taster menu was superb as was the service and breakfasts. Many thanks to Tracey and team for making our stay so enjoyable,

My husband and I had a meal here (tasting menu) whilst on holiday in the area. This was a belated birthday meal for me. From the minute we walked through the door to the minute we left we were made to feel very welcome. The food was absolutely delicious, impeccably presented and each dish was explained in very fine detail. The flavours in each and every course were “just right”. The photos show some of the courses (there were more)! We would highly recommend eating here for a special occasion.

This is absolutely a diamond in gastronomy! I had 2 times diner here and was more than pleasant surprised. Good ambiance ( nice music could be a little less loudly) and great service! An impressive winelist and knowledgeable staff. The dinner was amazing. Slow cooked pork belly and one day later beef. The chef has ambitions! As a cost consiois Dutchman I would say: go now before they get there well deserved Michelin star.

We weren’t staying in the hotel but had read good reviews about the restaurant so took a taxi from our hotel in Keswick. It was absolutely worth the taxi fare. The setting and scenery were beautiful and the service was impeccable. Staff were friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We had the four courses for £48 which was excellent value for money. The food was delicious, every course was incredibly well thought out and left you excited to try the next one. It should be noted that you have no choice and get what you’re given so if you’re a fussy eater it’s probably not for you however if you are happy trying new things or aren’t fussy I cannot recommend this place enough. We left full and very happy.

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel and ate here 2/3 nights. I'm a bit gutted I didn't make it 3/3 but I felt like I should try something else as well (it wasn't as good as this place) I cannot recommend this hotel for its food enough. A different menu every night where you just get what you are given. To not offer a choice of food to the diner screams confidence in your cooking. It did not matter that I didn't choose because every dish brought out was stunning. Having been a chef myself in the past, I could tell how highly skilled this cooking was. The textures and flavours were superb. Thanks for a wonderful 2 meals.

We visited on recommendation for my girlfriends birthday. The building is lovely and the restaurant in well presented. We were early but seated quickly. I was upset to find out they were doing a shortened version of the menu with no wine pairings! It should of been communicated to me at booking! They presented us with what was described as “Carrot” turned out to be caramelised carrot soup not very nice at all and mine was cold! We both had the partridge to start which was very nice. The rest of the food was very nice not quite as polished as I had expected. Upon asking they did try to pair some wines for my girlfriend however these were late a lot and just presented as obviously as possible “this is white wine to go with the fish from Italy”. For the price it isn’t bad but to go further they need to be more polished in the food. I have to say there was a man serving who was a manager and was very good and attentive however the woman with him didn’t know what the food was, wine was and she needs to be introduced to an iron for her shirt!

This restaurant is in a quiet location. It is located near Derwentwater lake, a few miles from Keswick, in an excellent small hotel. The food is locally sourced, for instance the lamb comes from the next door farm. Some ingredients are foraged. The menu is well thought out and well balanced. There is a good wine list. The service is excellent. The views from the restaurant windows is spectacular.

The Leathes Head has the nicest menu and the finest food along the Borrowdale Road (B5289). There are numerous hotels and inns along this stretch that cater primarily to walkers (and their dogs), but if you are inclined to have a less casual and more refined experience, The Leathes Head delivers admirably. Don't expect heaps of chips and sauces: this chef presents well-portioned, beautifully presented, and fine-tasting plates. The dining room is intimate and has lovely views across the River Derwent.I was especially impressed with the staff. They were attentive and helpful, with just the right combination of formality and friendliness. If you're tired of the muddy-boot scene, The Leathes Head is the place for you.

A Return visit for us , we just love this hotel , it’s one of our favourite places to stay . This room has such amazing views across to the lake and out to the fells , even from the bath , you can see straight down to the lake , yet it’s completely private and not overlooked . It’s just a great , super luxurious room to stay in , with a very large modern bathroom . As usual , the food was first class , they have a fantastically talented chef, and thank you to Kevin for choosing a wonderful rich Bordeaux for us, to go with a perfect meal . Breakfast is such a lovely experience , being able to look straight out to the gardens ,to see the resident pheasant , all the birds on the feeders and red squirrels quite openly running around . You won’t be disappointed if you book this hotel , we have already booked our next stay .

ould highly recommend Leathes Head to anyone visiting the Borrowdale valley who wants to eat high quality food. It's so nice after a day's walking to eat at a place where you know you are going to be treated to good food and friendly service. There is no unimaginative 'pub grub' or hotel chain food here. The food is freshly cooked and locally sourced. We were welcomed at the door on arrival by very attentive staff and were treated to the very best of service all evening. We wanted to eat here after seeing the restaurant in the Relish Cumbria book so i called to make a reservation. A very rude South African/Australian woman said that we could dine here but only at 6.30pm as all the later tables are reserved for residents. I then suggested that they did not really want our business then and asked whether the hotel was full for the following week. My thinking was that it if was not full of residents we may be able to eat later than 6.30pm. The line was bad and i was asked to call back which i did numerous times in the following 30 mins to just get an engaged tone. I then emailed the general manager who responded but pretty much said the same but in a much nicer manner. I mentioned that we are regularly in the area and perhaps they may be more accommodating of our request in January or March when we will be there again. If you are not really open to non-residents you should not pretend that you are! Your website is just not true as our experience was that we were anything but welcome.

We ate here six times and the food is outstanding and the kitchen staff and service side was exemplary, We were all very impressed with the presentation and quality of the food and service. Excellent value for money in a truly delightful setting. The Jazz music was not to our liking perhaps a little Katie Mellua would of been more appropriate, however I really am looking hard to fault this restaurant. The food was locally sourced and prepared in a consistent manner so as we ate here more than once, we got to see this over time. Amuse bouche was lovely particularly the black current and lemon we had one night.

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
