Was looking forward to having lunch at AH but was turned away with the excuse the hotel was hired out for a conference which may be the case. However when arriving on the grounds and at Reception we were not turned away by various other members of staff or asked if we were part of the conference. It wasn't until we sat outside in the bar area that we were asked to leave. It was obvious that booked spa days and afternoon tea was allowed in. Also no reply to the online chat before arrival asking about availability. We won't return.

I wish I could say everything was perfect as we love the hotel, but sadly, we were disappointed. The whole set-up and ambience were lovely so we had high expectations. The first disappointment was that we got what seemed a new waiter who had no clue about the menu and each question we asked he had to look at his notes. If you have a new staff please have them supervised and not left alone when they're still learning. He wasn't even able to tell us what the fish of the day was as if it was properly explained to us we both would have ordered. One of the starters we had was cured mackerel but that came half raw and tasted awful, and had to be returned. Once cooked it was delicious. By all means, the food presentation was beautiful on all dishes. Then the main spoiler was when another waiter came asking if we wanted the carrot cake now... well it was meant to be a birthday surprise but hey since you asked it was no longer a surprise. Breakfast was beautifully set up and delicious the only mess up that happened was that they forgot to put the eggs on one of the plates so by the time the egg arrived the rest of the food got a bit cold. We waited for room service from 9pm and it got delivered as we were heading to bed at midnight. Apparently, their new google nest didn't work properly. So that was a slight disappointment for a 5* hotel.

Walk through the lovely hotel to be taken to a run down part of the building. Few people there and opposite couple in white robes, slightly uncomfortable. Dressed up for our wedding anniversary thinking it was going to be a nice occasion. The floor was dirty and tables weren’t clean. Didn’t feel like you could talk as it was so quiet. Food was average and wouldn’t have paid half for it, drinks took ages. And the waiter kept asking was everything ok. It was below par for what I expected was going to be 5star. Needs a good clean, and struggle to give 1 star. Was of my time and money. Wish I’d gone to our local pub for lunch instead.

Another return visit to Reflections, this time for Christmas lunch. As always the food and service were excellent. I dined alone on this occasion and service was well balanced to take into account that I would probably be a little faster without company to talk with. Staff were attentive without being intrusive, I have always found the staff to be polite and give a very professional service. All of my menu choices were cooked and presented to perfection, each individual item retaining it’s full flavour without other items on the plate becoming bland. However, and I really don’t want there to be a however, I notice after I had completed my main course, that other diners around me were served a side of cranberry to accompany their turkey, I never had any, and should I have noticed sooner would have asked for some, but having completed the course it was pointless. One other thing I should mention, but really feel it was probably a “one off “ was a female member of staff, who I didn’t see serving but looked to be in a more supervisor position, wipe her nose on the sleeve of her uniform. Not really something I would expect to see, but I emphasise she was not at any point that I saw actually in contact with the food, or the serving there of. Don’t take this as a negative of the restaurant, food or the serving staff, they were all exceptional.

The staff were very attentive, friendly & not pretentious at all, they made you feel very welcome. It was the little things, for example, when we checked in, the receptionist asked if our stay was for a special occasion (it was, my wife's birthday) without our knowledge, she had made a note of this for our dinner reservation & my wife was presented with a surprise sweet treat after dinner in honour of her birthday. Both dinner & breakfast were of a high quality, with a good variety of options & the wine list had a good selection too. We would highly recommend this hotel & look forward to returning.

We booked a meal here as we were staying here for the night. We were welcomed to our table, a small table for two squeezed in between two other small tables for two. It was if we were at the other people’s tables, I don’t really want to share my meal with conversations which aren’t for me! One of the tables was a great phone conversation with an ear piece. So it was loud. We asked to move and ate more in the entrance of the restaurant which was quieter and much nicer. The food was very good however it took 48 minutes for our starter to come. The restaurant wasn’t busy and no explanation was given as to the delay. We were given dips to eat with bread but no explanation as to what the dip was. No use if you have allergies. No one to ask either. Our meal came to more than £100 so not cheap. Food was as I said excellent but service and ambience was probably not even one star. Next time we are in West Sussex we will definitely choose elsewhere to eat and to stay. Would we return. Definitely not. Sorry.

We had a great stay at Alexander House Hotel but a mixed experience eating in Reflections Restaurant. The service at breakfast was poor and we waited at the reception area for quite a while before wandering around to the tables. We were then told we had to go back to the reception area quite abruptly which wasn’t a great first impression. As you are seated you are asked whether you want fruit juice as it is poured for you instead of self service. Personally I would rather have it available so I can get it myself when I want it. We then waited quite a while for someone to come and take our order for breakfast. The service at dinner was far better. My only two comments are that £7.50 for a skewer of overcooked small prawns is ridiculous and people need to learn how to make liqueur coffee as what I was served couldn’t be drank as it was so strong (with coffee). With a little attention and consistency this could be a really good restaurant.

We had dinner here as we were staying at the hotel. The food was lovely but being charged £4.50 each for two slices of bread each was, to put it politely, taking the micky! I cannot remember the last time I was charged for bread...but I digress! We both felt that the staff seemed like they had an average age of 16 and we joked that the staff budget must have been cut! Nobody appeared to be in charge and the staff " larking about and laughing, while great, should be reserved for the staff room, not the restaurant". Breakfast was lovely, as expected. Not a 5 star experience 3....4 stars at best

To be smartly dressed and sit surrounded by people in dressing gowns was the first turn off of the visit. We were seated looking out onto an internal courtyard area. The paving was stained and there were leaves, twigs, and general debris and the area looked like it had not been swept or cleaned for weeks. The wine list was not very comprehensive and in my opinion overpriced. I fancied the Chablis but was put off by the £72.00 price tag, so I settled for a £33.00 screw top that looked and tasted like a £6.00 Laithwaitte special. The menu was not inspiring and I ordered Mackerel as a starter. When it arrived, it was a tiny single slither with an assortment of Green blobs on the plate. it tasted over cooked and I could not identify exactly what the green blobs were. My main course was quite the opposite. The Fish pie was so large that it would have easily served two people. Needless to say, i left about 60% of it.The two children in our party (11& 9) did not fancy any of the starters on offer and requested a portion of Bread to share which included a dip.The waiter seemed baffled by this request and eventually brought 2 portions each comprising 4 slices of Farmhouse loaf.We were not inspired by the dessert menu and opted for Ice cream. The Ice cream is offered as 3 Balls for £8.00. A strange pricing structure at £2.66 a ball. 3 persons in our party only wanted 2 balls but full price was charged. The Service was sloppy and I opted not to pay this 'Optional' charge.

Water that we asked for never came. unimpressed

Me and my husband had the pork terrine to start and the smoked salmon. Both tasted delicious and you get plenty of salmon. I would suggest having the bread as a side with both of these as you only have a tiny piece of toast with each. We then had the duck and lamb, which were both very filling and tasted amazing, the flavours are great! Too full for dessert, but the little surprise anniversary cakes we had were very nice! Breakfast wasn't amazing, but enough to set you up for the day!

I’ve been meaning to visit Alexander House for years and finally booked the Reflections restaurant for dinner. Firstly we were impressed by the waiter asking which of us had the garlic allergy. Out of all of the restaurants I have pre booked who asked about any food intolerances, this was the only one who actually read my comment. The menu has something for every palette, we have a broad range of preferences between us and we all found three courses we liked. The portions were adequate, each one presented in a way that made you want to eat them immediately. The flavours were perfect, the ingredients being fresh and perfectly cooked. Service was polite and helpful, without being intrusive. Prices? If you were looking for an inexpensive meal you wouldn’t book here anyway, I would personally say that it was what I expected and given the food, service and surroundings was not over priced. I would definitely recommend Reflections and we will certainly be returning.

No estoy bromeando.

We had lunch in the reflections restaurant. We waited in the entrance of the restaurant for 10minutes for the waitress to show us to our table. We then ordered starters and mains. The starters were very small, the prawn and crab starter contained no discernible crab and seemed to consist mainly of lettuce. When the mains arrived we were once again shocked at the portion sizes, the tiny piece of lamb was eaten in 3 mouthfuls and was over cooked. The meal was very expensive (£160 for 4 people not including drinks) especially since we left hungry.

The location was perfect for a lunch time meeting with friends. The menu looks really good but pricey. Despite making a booking, staff clearly had no knowledge of it when we arrived. We were able to select a table. We were the only guests in outdoor clothes. All other guests were in white 'spa' dressing gowns (we must have seen 30 people in robes during our stay). This is 'Reflections' Restaurant. It took over half an hour fr our pre-lunch drinks to be presented (and we had to ask for them). I think £7 for a Virgin Mary is a bit over the top! At first, we were offered a 'sandwich' menu and the staff looked surprised when we said we were there for the three course a la carte! The items on the menu sounded great and were excellent to eat. Service was amateur and totally uncoordinated. There were plenty of staff but nobody appeared to be in charge. The great work by the chefs was spoilt by the serving staff. I think that £16 for a prawn cocktail is over the top - even if it is well presented. Food was great - service was poor. We came away with a bill for £70 per head! we won't be going back.

Once ordered our meal came quite quickly but overall the quality of the food was poor especially considering the star rating of the hotel. I was unfortunate enough to order a pork "T" bone and when it arrived it was like rubber - totally overlooked and inedible. The waitress took it away and a second one was produced and was equally like rubber. Poor quality meat and overlooking is the probable cause. My meal, although small, was beautifully cooked, however my friend ordered the ceasar salad, and I have to say I agree with her that the croutons were disgusting. The only thing I can think of is that they must have been cooked in stale oil. The taste was quite of putting, and whilst she picked the croutons out and left to one side, it did flavour the salad quite unpleasantly. I stayed at the hotel for a spa weekend - a present from me to my sister, who was with me. I was hoping for (and thought, at the prices they were charging I should get!) a stress-free weekend. Dinner, however, was another matter. We had £30 each included in our 'deal' price. We each ordered the 'mozzarella and tomato gateaux' (£10). This was just a plate of mozzarella and tomato slices. We then had our mains. I ordered some green beans as a side. However, these only arrived after I had prompted twice - and finished my main course. The total cost was £58.50, under the £60 we had between us, yet the restaurant added 12.5% 'service charge' on. Given they failed to actually deliver what we ordered at an appropriate time, I would certainly not have paid this had I realised. We'd had some cocktails before dinner, and so both drank water with the meal, for which we were charged £8.

My partner and I have eaten breakfast and dinner in this restaurant. Both times were blown away by the attentive service which some may say is too much. Breakfast was a wonderful array of choices with a perfect fried breakfast. Although it was £20 per head which we were glad it was included in our package. We also wanted a special night of fine dining and it certainly gave us that. Hard to judge whether you need sides as we were unsure of portion sizes. We were given an amuse Bouche which was like a mushroom soup and it was lovely. Even my partner ate it and he doesn't like mushrooms. The dessert was raspberries done in different ways with a chocolate mousse cake. Again my partner loved it and woke up the next morning talking about it. I thought the fruit was really tarte which is not to my taste and the cake was really hard.Otherwise, we paid near £100 for main, dessert and a glass of wine each so be aware that the prices are high. Overall a wonderful dinner which we have experienced but we'll probably try somewhere else next time we stay.

With all the reviews about how wonderful The Alexander House Hotel is we were left very disappointed. We had a voucher for a 3 course meal. The Cutlery was dirty. We had to ask for bread to begin the meal. The Beef tomato and mozzarella was like something you can buy in Sainsbury's. And the desert sticky toffee pudding with rum and raisin ice cream was like it was also bought in Sainsbury's. Not totally sure that anything was actually cooked in the kitchen. We ended up paying for the vegetables ( not sue why ) as surely the vegetables were part of the meal. With the cheapest bottle of wine being £26 and the second cheapest being £31 is quite unbelievable. Lastly we were asked if we enjoyed our meal at least 15 times by the various waitresses. There were only 5 tables being used when we went and one table complained about the fish being off and that she didn't feel very well. We won't be going back for a long time if ever

Great service from staff, good menu of fine dining without a stuffy atmosphere. Great dinner and breakfast enjoyed here - well worth the money !!

We ate in Reflections for lunch on our spa day at Alexander House, menu choice isn't that great but what we did order was tasty. Service is very slow and the kitchen ran out of mayonnaise.

Lacking ambiance, service or anything special-not a memorable or enjoyable dining experience at any level. I am sure there are far better establishments

My husband and I both had the sirloin steak and goose fat chips which was excellent and would recomment. The hotel had run out of new potatoes at 8.30pm on sat evening, which we were very shocked about. Poor wine selection. Excellent cooked breakfast but overall service for dinner and breakfast was very poor and not 5*, tables not cleared, glasses or coffee not topped up, no extra toast offered, no bread offered, wasnt bought a steak knife with the steak, all standard 5* things you would expect. Staff definately need better training to improve restaurant

I loved the look of the menu at this place but unfortunately I didn't get to try it. We changed tables twice due to groups of hen parties/groups of girls but it was not meant to be. I love vibey loud places with a great athompshere but whoever designed this place got it all wrong. You should be able to sit next to a group of people and still hear your partner talking. Not here! One easy fix: put a carpet in! The tile floor makes it extremely loud in here and impossible to have a relaxed dining experience. When you stand up to move your chair out, you need earplugs or you might lose your hearing (I'm in my twenties if someone wonders who loves busy places). Such a shame! However, I'm quite glad it went this way or I might not have been able to try AG's Grill - one of the best resturants I've been to. Simply stunning food and service.

We stayed in the hotel and had selected Reflections to eat in. Though branded as the option for more casual dining, the service and attention to detail was impeccable. All three courses were cooked so well and gave me a new combination of flavours to try. I would go back here without a doubt to try more of the menu.

We ate in the Reflections Brasserie whilst staying in the Alexander House Hotel. The atmosphere is very nice, and the service was pretty good, but the food is really what makes this place special. I had the pot roast chicken, and my boyfriend had the pork tenderloin and both were fantastic.

The food was excellent. However, we had booked the AG Grill Room, closed (unannounced). The atmosphere was somewhat sterile and not reflected in the high cost of the food and wines.

We ate dinner here whilst staying at the hotel. The staff really need to step it up a bit to avoid simple mistakes and provide a level of service that matches the rest of the hotel. Food was tasty but portions were small and the prices very high.

We ate from the fixed price menu which may have been tje problem as the food was distinctly average and portions very small. A shared platter as a starter came with 3 small pots of dip, the Caesar main consisted of a few leaves and 7 croutons . Turkey burger ok but nothing special. If the set menu was meant to represent good value it failed miserably.

Excellent food and good choice - breakfast in particular was lovely and very relaxed. Fresh food served and there was a very varied choice. Staff were helpful and professional. Buzzy atmosphere but not too crowded.

Ate at the Brasserie as being new to the area we were keen to explore good quality dining options locally. The main restaurant was not available, so we opted for the Brasseria and it was a bit of a disappointment on the culinary side. The service was excellent, but the food was a major disappointment and my steak was so overcooked it was not even edible (asked for medium rare). I often think that any chef who cannot cook a steak to order, needs further training. For the price, they should have definitely been proficient! The value for money is not there. From the knock off polish alcohols (vodka, baileys equivalent etc...) to the food in general.I hear the main restaurant is better, so hope to find out soon enough.

Small portions and overpriced, topped off with them forgetting some of the order and serving me potatoes that were so old they had sprouted.Terrible - avoid.

The food was delicious, however very pricey. The 2 meals we had one did not come with vegetables and one did not come with potatoes or anything like that. If we'd wanted to add these two basic dinner items it would have added £9 to the main course price that was already £42!!!!

Dinner - went in to the Champaign bar for pre-dinner drinks, it was ok, would of been nice to ask us if we had a reservation and would we like to look at the menu etc while we had a drink... some people had cocktails, but I couldn't see a drinks menu so stuck with a trusty G & T.Went through to dinner, as part of the hotel package you get £35 each towards food. The food was nice, but very overpriced for what it was... £28 for steak and 8 chips and a garnish. £8.50 for desserts, I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world and do not mind paying for quality, but here the quality did not live up to the price. Also we asked for a different ice cream, but didn't get it.Breakfast - Nothing special, we had the full English, normally I would assume you can use the continental selection as well, cereals etc, but these were not offered. Ordered breakfast and it arrived without an item, but no apology, when we asked we were told they had run out. No sauces, no salt and pepper, no coffee or juice top ups, had to ask for more toast.

Food was lovely, but service was very slow. 1 1/4 hours from ordering to serving starters - really not acceptable. Also, they add a 12.5% service charge on your bill, we then realised why the barman had insisted on putting our pre dinner drinks on our restauarnt bill - very sneaky. If you are confident about the quality of your service you shouldnt need to do this really shoudl you???

We had high hopes asthe Hotel is four star and sadly the restaurant didn't meet that standard. the staff were friendly and courteous and they certainly had enough front of house to accomodate the covers. the starter of mediterran prawns weren't fresh, so they lacked flavour and texture. the main was good, lamb tender and the jus was just right. My wife had the steak and we had to wait over an hour between starter and main course, the maitre'd was apologetic and offered free round of drinks. sadly the steak was tough and had been sitting under the pass all that time before it was served. We didi expect better service and the food overall was average, which was a real shame, other diners that evening sent courses back to the kitchen. maybe having one kitchen and two restaurants isn't a good idea when they are fully booked.

Returned to this lovely garden centre and was warmly welcomed into the restaurant,it was early lunchtime but there was a good buzz of others enjoying their food. There is a seasonal menu and wanting a fairly light lunch we opted for the mezze platter to share. The service is first class our waitress very friendly,we ordered a beer and glass of red wine to accompany the dish. The drinks and food arrived speedily and it was delicious, colourful, and beautifully presented. Our waitress returned to check everything was ok which of course it was.We had coffee afterwards then left.We were acknowledged by all the staff working there who cheerfully said Goodbye. This is a venue not to be missed,I noticed the lunch menu, they also do breakfast and whilst there at the weekend they were serving a beautiful afternoon tea to a group of ladies…I look forward to a return visit soon…Yours Stuart…
