Red Lion in Arun

We had lunch here whilst visiting the castle, and what a lovely find it was. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was nice. We ordered our food and were very pleased with what arrived.i had the baked Camembert which was excellent and I felt good value for money. We were all very happy with our food which looked and tasted delicious. Well done!

I ordered a simple burger, what pubs are known for, & as soon as i cut in i knew the burger was not only fresh but was one of those cheap, compressed pound burger from the cheapest supermarket selection for a staggering £15! The person i was with also had an awful, distgusting, over cooked lamb roast which he returned & got refunded with a snotty feedback from the chef! Considering the area this pub is in, not only you expect decent food but also customer service. The grade of this pub is incorrect, reading up all the negative reviews so its a 2 from us & NEVER AGAIN!

The Sunday Roast arrived with a small amount of dry looking gravy, so i asked for some extra. However this never arrived as promised, so not a good start. The Potatoes looked like black rocks from the beach. They were grossly over cooked, in fact burnt. I guess these had been reheated from early on. The lamb, which is supposed to be succulent was in fact reminiscent of strips of dry leather. So this was either cooked to an inch of its life or again, had been reheated. Either way it was unacceptable. I was offered an exchange meal or refund by the helpful waitress. I chose the refund due to a lack of faith in the kitchens ability to serve a fresh cooked meal. On asking for feedback from the chef, i was told that the chef replied “there is nothing wrong with the roast”. Clearly not only is the Chef’s cooking skills in debate, the attitude to a customer complaint is appalling & rude. I will not be returning.

The Red Lion is a public house which offers food to buy. It is situated in the centre of Arundel and is very popular. It offers a large selection of both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. There is also a large selection of beers. There is quite a lot of seating, but because of serving food, it gets very busy at times. We went back again for Sunday lunch and were once again pleased with both the staff service and the lunch that we received. The food was tasty, hot and served quite quickly, but not too fast. Some people brought their dogs in with them and they seemed well behaved. In some evenings there are music bands and events for the customers. Toilets are available too which were clean.

First time staying in Arundel, The Red Lion Sunday lunch was fab ! Atmosphere good and friendly staff. Would defo recommend . Tina 2 !

Worst fish and chips I've ever had - the batter was not fully cooked, and the fish had an unpleasant taste and was full of dark flesh, so is unlikely to have been haddock as advertised. I order fish and chips often in pubs i don't know, because it seems like a good test - you can't trust a pub that can't do fish and chips well. And I don't trust this one. There are lots of choices in Arundel. No reason to pick this one.

Popped into this inviting pub for a quick drink during a New Year break in Arundel and liked it so much we decided to stay for dinner. We were glad we did as the food was all really good - well above the usual pub fare. Having tried most of the pubs in Arundel during our stay this was the one we kept going back to. Good music too.

Popped in for a cheeky pint and lunch. Camembert starter to share. Gourmet burger and bangers and mash mains. Lovely food, beer, atmosphere and staff. Super helpful and friendly. We’ll be back.

Had dinner at the Red Lion last night. I had the sausages and mash and my wife the fish and chips with a side of vegetables. The food was fantastic. What made the visit so pleasurable was the friendliness of the staff. We were made to feel right at home and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to you all.

We have been going to the red lion for lunch for quite a few months now and have to say that on a Friday we get brilliant service, great menu choices and we are never disappointed. Today was extraordinary with the slow roast beef short ribs that just fell apart and were so tasty

I love a tasty and typical pub lunch, but good quality is sometimes hard to find. The Red Lion offers excellent food to the young (burgers), the mature (incredible pie) and the gluten-free (amazing stuffed aubergine). The pub is cosy, welcoming, service is kind and efficient. A great pick!

We try to visit here as often as possible. On this occasion I had Pie of the day which was steak, Mushroom and ale. It came with mashed potato, carrots, cauliflower and sugar snaps. The pie was huge and brimming with superb steak. The vegetables could not have been cooked any better. Once again Sam, Chris Lorraine and all came up trumps. Time and time again their food is perfect. If you get the chance to visit this enchanting town please visit this pub. If you don't you'll miss something very special. The Red Lion is a pub in the High Street, in the centre of Arundel. It is quite large and has a bar which plays background music and has a restaurant area. There is a good selection of beers, other drinks and a good food selection too. Daily food specials are available. There was a very relaxed environment at the Sunday lunch time that we visited. Many meal tables were booked, so I suggest booking. Friendly and helpful staff work at the Red Lion. The bar, restaurant and toilets are clean and live entertainment takes place in the bar area on some nights.

We visited for a quick dinner. The food was really tasty. The pub menu has options for all tastes. Great place to eat something tasty and filling.

Very dirty pub toilets disgraceful mens toilets urine all over floor ladies toilets filthy radiator rusty full of dirt dust door to toilets on both needs cleaning used here in past and was never this bad will not be returning if toilets are filthy god knows what the kitchen is like loads of dirty glasses stacked on bar dispite not being busy and loads of staff to deal with this dishwasher tray for glasses left on bar empty as well standards have slipped hence did not eat there

I was there 2 times. Ate only once because the food was very average. I had the Arundel butchers sausage expecting something nice but I have to be honest. Sausages were tasteless, gravy tasteless, mashed potatoes tasteless, onion rings tasteless. Seemed like when I had Covid but I don’t. I ate it all because I was hungry but that’s about it. Now honestly, one thing that has got to change that I noticed on both occasions : someone needs to come and clean up the men’s toilet once in a while. Sorry to say. Every time someone opens that door, the smell of old urine emanating from there in the restaurant is absolutely unbearable ! Not nice when you’re eating ! Really liked the deco, the atmosphere, the live music, the beer choice. Therefore 3 stars because I’m being nice.

We just popped in for a quick lunch and our expectations were not high. The meals were average ; ok, but nothing special. The dish I had came with champ; it wasn`t. The gravy was supposed to be onion gravy; it wasn`t. In fact, it was quite unpleasant. I repeat, don`t go expecting a gastronomic treat and you won`t be disappointed.

Went in with a friend after a longish local walk. We’d booked but turned up early which staff accepted cheerfully.Good choice of ales and IPAs, I opted for refreshing bitter shandy.My mate had rump of lamb, looked just right and he enjoyed it. I nicked half if his side order of crispy spicy sweet potato fries.Not feeling very hungry I ordered two starters - calamari and tempura prawns, both arrived crisp and non greasy, the seafood was fresh and sweet, nicely garnished. His sticky toffee pudding with custard looked great and he stopped just short of licking the plate.Illy coffee made a great espresso.The staff were delightful, friendly, helpful and attentive.

Dropped in for a quick pint for 20 minutes. They’re now on the ‘tab’ system where you pay at the bar when you’re finished...which is fine. Whilst paying, I was accused of having three pints of different ale, not one. It was very embarrassing and upsetting.I got the feeling that because I was from America and a tourist, it was fair game to try and rip me off. I know that takings are down because of Corona virus, but trying to stiff people is not going to work. Other than that, the young lady who served me was quite nice.

Came in on Sunday for a roast dinner the welcome at the door was loverly and the guy there bent over backwards to find us a table as it was so busy.The service was excellent and so was the food.The hygiene was great as tables were cleared can't recommend enough. 5 stars.

Just walked into this pub as it had fairly good reviews. However, the service was completely unacceptable. Avoid at all costs.We approached the waitress at the bar to ask if she has a table for 3, and we confirmed we have no booking. At that point she said if you find a free table you will need to leave by the time the people who reserved it come or earlier. So we proceeded to go to the beer garden to find a table and as we walked away the lady behind the bar started talking about us behind our backs, but clearly meant for us to hear. One of the things she said “how can someone to come to a pub on a Sunday without a booking? “I mean I understand they might be busy and not have a table, but there is no need for that and poor customer service. As soon as we heard that we just walked out as a business that is so ignorant will not get a penny from me.

Worst pub food ever. Over cooked steak and burnt chips. Sausage and solid mash must have been reused and reheated.

Family meal. Thai green chicken curry was cold. Yes cold, not like warm cold. We had a hot replacement of which consisted of more onions than chicken. Cold food should never leave a kitchen!!

I am really disappointed. The service and food did not live up to previous reviews. Firstly we were given a table at the back next to the door and opposite the ladies. It was freezing cold and lots of people going to the toilet. The website had two different menus and when I enquired about this, I was given an up to date menu, but on arrival the menu changed again. Food was ok. Portions could have been bigger. Food wasn't hot. Just about lukewarm and sitting next to the door meant it went cold very quickly. Not very tasty. Didn't leave feeling full.

I know not everyone prefers ordering their food at the bar but we do and this is how to order food in the Red Lion. I visited with my Sons during the Eat Out to Help out scheme so we were able to enjoy a sirloin steak, lamb shank and steak burger and 3 soft drinks for £26.31. The food was delicious and arrived very promptly. I loved the quirky decor and location of the pub in the centre of Arundel. They had good social distancing and hygiene measures in place. We rounded off our meal with apple, pear and berry crumble and double chocolate brownie both with ice cream - delicious. I would definitely return if we are back in Arundel again. And the whole dining experience only cost £37.37 - what a bargain!

Great meal good price. Had pie and pork belly. Excellent vegetables. List of guests/phone numbers next to front door so not secure. Bar staff touch glasses at the top not bottom 1/3 as sign suggested and one bar staff licked her fingers to separate paper menus. Didn't see staff use sanitizer at all!

Sat in beer garden at large wooden table. Needed cleaning from previous diners. The staff were very pleasant and efficient and cleared away empty plate promptly but no signs of cleaning tables and we were there over an hour. Pub toilets clean but only hand dryer no hand towels. Lovely beer and menu extensive printed on paper so expect single use but don't know for sure. All our party ordered was very good tasty and fresh and hot if needed to be. Just wish these days places would use butter not margarine in sandwiches as the taste is so substandard and lowered the quality. Would go back and recommend for sunny day lunch.
