We popped in for a couple of drinks on the way through and had a lovely time. Jill, who was working behind the bar, is a truly amazing person. She spent ages giving us all sorts of advice and recommendations for the area. Funny and welcoming bunch of locals too. I'd definitely recommend popping in if you're in the area.

We passed by and pulled in for some quick lunch. We found a seat and was served straight away. No waiting at all, which was great. The waitress was very friendly and help with any questions we had about the menu. We ordered the Lion burger and the farmers pie. Both orders came very quick and had clearly been cooked fresh, not warmed up at all. The food price was spot on and matched the food quality. No complaints at all! If we are ever passing by we will certainly stop in!

I was very lucky and won an afternoon tea for 2. As someone who regularly goes for afternoon tea I was very excited about this and booked it in quickly. Everything was great! Fab variety of cakes, the sandwiches were moist and scone was large. We got unlimited tea and a bottle of Prosecco. I will be taking my mum and sister there very soon as I enjoyed it so much! Thank you Red Lion!

Having been turned away from the White Horse at South Lopham who no longer serve lunches on a Tuesday, three of us decided to try the Red Lion. An excellent choice. In particular we were taken by some of the more unusual menu options, such as Farmers pie and smoked haddock tartlet, both of which were excellent. The third choice was scampi and chips with more pieces of scampi than served elsewhere according to the very satisfied diner. My sister's Sheltie collie dog was made equally welcome and the waitress offered some doggy nibbles to enjoy. Well done the Red Lion.

I think this pub is trying hard to bring local food onto their menu with a twist the Lion burger was great! but other bits a little bit of a let down, always a cosy local atmosphere. nearly there just a little more effort would make it great!

My wife and myself went to this pub prior to my wife having a total hip replacement, We sat through the back room as the seats were higher as my wife could not and still cannot sit on low seats because of her hip. However, within seconds a blonde lady came up and said do you want a menu as you are sitting in the restaurant. I said no but my wife needs a higher chair to sit on, she pointed at the high chair and said you can have one that babies sit in and laughed. When she had gone a girl came up and asked again would we like a menu, once again I explained. When she had gone the bar-maid came and told us we should not be sitting there as it is the restaurant and was quite rude. There was no one in the back rooms and nothing to state it was a restaurant area so this was ridiculous. We left and went to a pub that has just re-opened down the road and we were made to feel welcome, now all our family and friends go there for food and drinks an excellent welcoming pub.

Very cramped and very noisy due to low ceilings possibly. My starter of Thai Crabcakes was nice but the main course of Fish and Chips was not. The chips were overcooked and greasy, the salad was minimal to say the least and I have no words to describe the fish. It was also like warm. Why do restaurants not warm the plates before serving? I would have thought this was a given. Would no go here again.

Popped in to the Red Lion for a quick lunch. Ordered a homemade burger with stilton and chips. Food arrived and looked great. However when I cut the burger in half it was completely raw. I took my meal back inside and explained to the landlady who swifftly went to sort it out. My meal eventually was returned. The burger was the same burger in 2 bits, it had been microwaved and was put back in some cheap nasty sesame bun not the nice original bun. The whole plate was exactly how I returned it. Same chips now cold. Same plate still with bits of raw burger. When I mentioned this too the landlady she didnt want too discuss this and basically walked off. Quite clearly customer service is not something she cares about. I certainly will never be back.

All previous visits to the Red Lion had been most enjoyable, with a warm welcome and good food. On this occasion it was not so good. Of the six starters on the menu, one was no longer available, although we were the only people eating and it was only 7.30 pm. The steaks were below the normal standard and the waiter disappeared altogether half way through the meal, and we had to get anything else we wanted via the bar. Can we get back to normal Red Lion service please.

The pub bar is unspoilt and must be pleasant for locals along with Wherreys beer. The standard menu in the restaurant is predominately lots of steaks (one a 32 oz!) and hamburgers, however there are specials. We had risotto and steak dumpling, which were great, followed by home made desserts which were just as good. Some locals were having steaks on the next table, they looked good and will be on our list on our next visit. The portions are generous, you certainly will not leave hungry.

We went to the bar first and although the bar-women was friendly and served us very quickly, we got the impression that this was a "locals' area" and we weren't welcome. Along the corridor in the restaurant area, the atmosphere was completely different with lots of friends & families enjoying the food. This isn't a gastropub but the food all seemed home-made, fresh and full of flavour, a genuine refreshing change from the reheated frozen food served elsewhere. We enjoyed the rich stilton & broccoli soup, the filo prawns and the suet steak & kidney pie and only regret not trying the burgers. The accompanying veg was crisp and the chips were home-style slabs of potato. A really stomach filler.Info for others: There is a car park at the rear which we didn't notice until we were leaving.

Took a friend with his 4 yr old with our 4 and 1 yr old boys for a roast dinner. They don't have high chairs even though I asked for one when I booked the table. Young waiters and waitresses tried to light candles before our meal...open flames in front of 4 yr olds?? Really?? They then tried to give them sharp serated knives for their meals...again...really??? Plus the roast was poor. Bland gravy and potatoes, grissly beef and what looked like tinned sweet corn! I don't expect that when I go out for dinner. Won't be going again.

I awoke this morning more than two years after my visit to Kenninghall for an interview with the late Oliver Bernard. My visit was abominable. Not with Mr Bernard which was a rewarding interview, but my three nights at The Red Lion. It was the sudden remembrance of that stay at the Inn that left a sour taste, which I tried to put behind me at the time. The staff were courteous and friendly enough. Who wouldn’t be? After all, I was a customer to give them money for services. It was an irksome insult as I went to pay for my evening meal with my guest in their restaurant. I was asked to pay for my three nights stay in advance. To add prior insult; my spinach lasagne had obviously been cooked by microwave, of which for health reasons I am totally against. But the lasagne was bitterly embarrassed by the near absence of spinach that seemed to have been a distant forgotten relic of past ages. It was a dark green smear that resembled the colour of spinach. That embarrassment was only the beginning…My lodging room was in a terraced cottage situated in a gravelled parking area at the back of the Inn. The simple furniture, a bed, was acceptable enough. But it was so cold that it felt as if the room had not been used for several months. The coldness was such that I could not sleep. Why, I wondered, had they not switched on the heating in the afternoon. After all, I had booked my stay three days in advance. There was a radiator. I searched about the room and found a power switch, which I assumed controlled the heating operated by a timer. I switched it on. I also found an electric heater in the wardrobe. Did they expect one to sit in the wardrobe with the heating on?I got up at about 5:00am to make a cup of coffee – for the warmth. I had brought with me my stainless steel Italian espresso maker and a traveller’s mini ‘tablet’ cooker on which to boil the water. But it was all in a bag in my parked car in the road. I went out and found that the only exit, a wide farmer’s gate, was padlocked. Did they think I would do a moonlight flit with their bed? I had to climb over the gate and fetch the coffee-making gear, and then back again over the gate to my room. I did not bother with breakfast their, which was the conventional cardiovascular early death creating fry-up. I brought with me fresh fruit and nuts. The best part of my stay was the hot coffee in the mornings.

We went for a large group meal down the red lion after a days shooting and couldn't have been made more welcome!! After having a couple of local beers in a lovely surrounding pub of beams and friendly staff showed to the table where within minutes of us being given our drinks we were served our dinner!! The service was immaculate as well as the food the beef was well cooked as well as the vegetables which there were plenty of for us to eat!! The service was tremendous, the waitress was always seeing if we wished for more drinks and was allowing us to have a great time (slightly noisy) even with other diners present in the restaurant!! One slight disappointment was with the cheese that there were only 2 cheeses on the cheese board!!full credit though to the waitress and chef to allow us to have a great night!! Will be going back!!

We called in at the Red Lion for something to eat on our way home from an afternoon at Banham Zoo on 24th July. I'd looked at the pub's website earlier to make sure food was available; it was, with service starting at 6.30pm. We arrived at 5.30pm to find the pub shut, although opening is stated as 5.30pm. We hovered outside for a couple of minutes but then went to the other pub in the village for a drink before returning at around 6.15pm. We were given a very friendly welcome and were served quickly and efficiently. We chose to sit outside on a table at the front of the pub opposite the pretty church. Once we had placed our food order the lady from behind the bar (the landlady?) came out to tell us that we may have to wait for around 20 minutes as, having only just opened, the ovens weren't quite up to temperature. Again, not a problem. Our food was brought out by a lovely young waitress and oh, was it worth the wait! My husband had the Ribs and Chicken - the meat was so tender it just fell off the bone - and I had Fisherman's Lunch (prawn salad) with a side order of delicious home-made chips. You also get a little pot of home-made coleslaw which was such a treat as most places use pre-prepared stuff. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit - the staff were lovely, the locals were friendly, the building is beautiful, old and quirky and the food was delicious and excellent value for money. We will definitely return.

What a fantastic little old, old, old pub. I have never visited another pub remotely like it. Friendly, efficient staff. Whole thing completely ruined by: a. music playing b. ghastly music at that. Do the owners really think it is congruent with their pub?We stayed because we were able to sit outside. Would I go back? I was going to say that I would if it were weather to sit outside, but that misses the point of the interior of this delightful building - so probably not. What a shame.

This is a lovely pub. When visiting friends near Diss and having stayed in B&Bs with no evening meal, this pub was recommended. Each time I have been I have not been disappointed with anything. The menu is mainly traditional pub fare with a few interesting specials. They have a starter - mushrooms in cream and stilton - served with a delicious roll - which is delicious. The steaks are excellent and served with salad or veg and choice of potatoes. The service is friendly and efficient. Nice china and an eclectic mix of cutlery. They have outdoor seating at front and back, the front looking across a quiet road to the church. The variety of customers is from me as a solo to families with young right to the "silver" diners!Nice atmosphere too.

We arrived at this genuine and charming pub in this out of the way village almost as they were about to stop serving - but our B&B hosts up the road at Strenneth had kindly booked us in - and the staff at the Red Lion really could not have done more to make us feel welcome. As we had a dog we we sat in the snug, which is really lovely and historic in feel, although there is a dedicated restaurant area. The menu is not overly large, but has a good variety. Between the four of us we had Leg of Lamb in a mint marinade (very tender), Beef Goulash (a special - and enjoyable) and the Mixed Grill which my 24 year old son said was "the best he's ever had". Portions are generous (they needed to be, we had just done 3 hours at Go Ape in Thetford Forest). Accompaniments were variously potato wedges, chips, and rice with stir fry, and vegetables. Desserts followed for three (with four spoons!) - gorgeous chocolate fudge cake, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Service was prompt and with a smile. The bar had a good range of beers and ciders (it is a CAMRA pub). The bill including drinks for four was £75, which seemed quite reasonable. We will certainly return there when next in the area and thoroughly recommend it.

If you want burgers, pie, pizza, fish&chips also on our table location - on a busy food/pedestrian pass- plus a classy constant ‘C bomb’ dropping female barfly atmos - then this the place for you! Used to be great - what the heck has gone wrong? No specials, no drinks service, no enquiry as to if everything was ok (maybe too embarrassed to ask!). Great family (away from the classy barfly) ‘cafe/burger joint - but not a couples restaurant - maybe a commercial choice but not for us sadly anymore.

A lovely place to stop off for a filling bite to eat, with a large assortment of sweet and savory dishes and snacks on the menu. Friendly staff that don't 'overdo it', whilst ensuring a relaxed and attentive service. May be more pricey when ordering for groups of people, but individually it is worth the money. The selection of food we bought was recieved positively, cooked well to order with large and ample amounts, which recieved strains of 'oohs' and 'aahs' of satisfaction, especially towards crispy, flavoursome Scampi, and vinegar-coated, chunky chips. Very pleased with service, food, and cafe layout itself. Only issue is towards prices of drinks, but that can't be helped much due to inflation. All round good experience, leaving us full until the afternoon.

What a lovely manager. It was close to shutting as I pulled in to sort out my baby from crying on my way home to Essex. The manager even though closed invited me and my baby in so I could feed him and offered me tea. Thanks to her I had a happy baby who slept the rest of the hour journey home. That kindness I will never forget and now we plan to go in every time we make the journey now to see the parents. 10000/10

We had a very pleasant meal even though the service was very slow, staff were polite. Very nice atmosphere even though there was a very loud man in the bar. I asked a man who I assume was the manager that there was no soap in the ladies toilet he said he would deal with it but when I was leaving both soap dispensers were still empty so I had to use the disabled toilet. A mocca was ordered and we were charged for a Hot Chocolate and an Americano which came to £5.50, if we had known it would be this price we would not have ordered it, we queried it and were told we should have looked at the menu, there was no Mocca mentioned so we should have been informed.
