Eaten in several times and very happy with both service and food. However, £60 on a takeaway last night and it was very, very poor. Bland, luke warm, over oily generally Yuk!

Fantastic food and reasonably priced when you consider they don't serve alcohol, or charge corkage. We eat here once a month and have done for over a year, and it never disappoints. The food is superb, and they will tailor dishes to your tastes (I like a lot of spice!). Service is fast and professional. They cater for couples and parties of at least 15 (that's the biggest group I've taken there). There's a pub next door and you can take drinks from the pub into the restaurant, or take your own wine and beer; either way, they don't charge corkage. They even provide glasses and ice, and will open bottles for you. They do sell bottles of water. Important to note that they only take cash; no debit or credit cards.

Staying over in Uppingham we looked at available restaurants and lady in Hotel said food good at the Indiian, we were not disappointed. We rang to book and gentlemen said bring your own wine and beer , and if we’re visiting there’s a local shop 2 mins away to buy it. Stocked up with a beer and wine and arrived, very pleasant location opposite school and everything clean and smart. We had a mixed seafood starter followed by two fantastic mains just delicious from start to finish. As for the cost absolutely fantastic as we weren’t paying restaurants prices for alcohol. I really do wish we had the Indiian in our town ! Great staff ,great food ,great value.

Went for dinner after bank holiday Monday was excellent. didn't realize it was BYOB or cash only but easily solved with trip to nearby local store. Food was really good, fresh and vibrant, and despite being only people in restaurant after a busy Monday, we have not had a nicer Indian meal for ages. Very good value for money, sadly only passing through so not likely to eat here unless in area again, but highly recommend.

Undoubtably the worst Indian I have ever been to in my life The food was atrocious. bland and tasteless. I’ve hade hotter Corn flakes than the Jalfrezi I was served. Mushrooms were swimming in water, rice was under cooked, sag panir was like and old inner tube and the nan bread was like a wellington boot Having sat down, we were informed they only took cash and didn’t serve alcohol. I respect that (I’ve travelled enough to be aware religious beliefs). But put that on the door so people know before they sit down Asked if we could have a table not directly under the a/c and in an empty restaurant and was advised we’d have to move if someone needed that table in an empty restaurant!!!! There’s a “one stop” down the road. I’d advise getting a box of biscuits from there rather than help these rude clowns avoid VAT and PAYE

Where to start, the food, but I’ll get to the rest and there is more to come. The food was superb, I’d stick to the chefs specialities because they were aptly named, special. All comically named after local people of Uppingham which gives it a real homely feel. Excellent curries and sundries. The lamb is particularly good as part of the kebab mixed platter or in a main. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their food. Bare in mind - it has no licence and cash only but you can take a pint from the pub next door, the Exeter, lovely little pub apart from the obvious drug use. Couldn’t recommend the curry house highly enough.

Went here to celebrate with work colleagues. The restaurant knew we were a big crowd but did not put the tables together and this was despite the fact the restaurant was not very busy. Took ages with the orders and we ended up eating at different times. On reflection we should have pre ordered a 'set menu' option if this meant that the food would come altogether. Food was good when it arrived but we felt the staff (who were not too busy) did not try to make the best of a large willing group of diners. Service could have been handled better

This was our 1st visit to this restaurant . We knew it didn't have a licence for alcohol so went equipped with a bottle of chilled cava. When we arrived at 1830 hrs on Friday we were a bit hesitant as we were the only diners there. The very attentive staff dealt with our drink by placing it in a cooler after opening it for us. My husband and I ordered King Prawn Poori as starters and when they arrived we were amazed as to how big they were. They were also very delicious. Our main courses were Sampan prawns and Hyderabadi Biryani. The food was out of this world. I had the prawn dish and without doubt the best tandoori prawn dish I have ever tasted. The biryani was also out of this world. By 1915 hrs the restaurant was packed with diners as well as people collecting takeaways. It's a little gold mine. Visit friends here irregularly and have been here twice in a year and it wasn't much good 12 months ago but has gone downhill since. The food is bland and shows no care in the spicing or presentation (we suspect MSG). None of our dishes was even as good as average and other tables within earshot were unimpressed too. The service was as indifferent as the food (apart from one young lad) and worse of all it's what I would deem expensive even for good curry! I've eaten here several times, passing through this charming small town with a public school attached - or should that be the other way around? It's a very well presented, spotlessly clean, modern-style newish curry house 200m from the town centre, not near any other shops, but still a convenient position: you can park on the streets nearby. It's brightly lit and welcoming: have to say the staff are always very welcoming and the customer service is great. It's medium priced, a little more than the run of the mill places, but it always turns out excellent value because of the bring your own alcohol policy - there's a mini supermarket 50m away if you forget. Recommend the Goan Green Chicken, the Chilli Garlic Tikka Chicken, and the lamb bhuna as I've had all these and they were delicious, subtly spiced and just right. Starters fairly priced and also great, have not had desserts or coffees; hard to criticise but I'd just say two things:- it's never been too spicy for me or anyone in my group, and it may be toned down for the clientele since it's not leicester and an asian crowd?- the service charge is added automatically and it's a fair 10% but it could be a little clearer on the bill.Still excellent value and quite a find in the middle of this small town.

However I went there for Valentine and and when I made booking over the phone I wasn't informed that there was set menu which was £25 per person. Considering that I only wanted main naan and maltesers cheescake which is amazing I was disappointed because there was set option for starter which was either meat or vegetarian and when we finished main they brought us rice coconut desert which would probably be nice but I wanted to choose my own as I was forced to pay £25. At the end they gave me small box of lindor which was nice but damage was done and I left unhappy. Lesson learnt I will not go there on Valentine again and rather buy some nice clothes instead. We had eaten at Red India in Oakham before and it was very good so we decided to try the Uppingham Red India restaurant as we were staying nearby.TripAdvisor rates it 5 out of 9 restaurants in Oakham. The four restaurants above must be excellent if the food and service are better than Red India. We ordered 4 different curries and they were all delicious, each tasting different to the others. The restaurant is a bring your own alcohol, as they don't have a license to serve alcoholic drinks. This helps to bring the total price down which helps as the meals are a little pricey.Their menu is online on their website but unfortunately it isn't priced which would be helpful.I would have given a rating of 5 if the 10% service charge hadn't been hidden half way down the bill. It is clearly hidden so you tip some more, quite dishonest I think but I would eat here again.

What a shame. When the Red India first opened they were untouchable. The food and service was simply exemplary. Sadly the food now is not 'special' and really quite bland. The real disappointment is the excessive charge for what is a pretty average meal. I really don't mind paying a premium for good food, however, the bill tonight for 3 people (pompodoms and three main courses, 2 rice and one nam) (no drinks) of well over £60 is absolute madness. This restaurant will go under soon, as the local community have started to grasp the fact that the Red India is simply greedy and as a consequence over charges it's customers. My recommendation would be go to Oakham for equal or slightly better food and c40% cheaper. Also Oakham offers you the ability to pay by card and has a bar to boot. Staff at red India are absolutely top class, just appears to have a deluded owner when it comes to value for money.

We would have had no problem with this and would have given more if it had been shown but to try and hide it, clearly hoping for an addition tip is very underhand. The Red Indiian is a good place to eat in Uppingham, the food is tasty, a little on the mild side, but high on the flavour, the way I like it. You bring your own alcohol to the restaurant which is funny at first but I have been back three times now and it's quite normal. The staff are friendly, not over bearing but attentive. They offer take away but when I tried this out they gave me a chicken dish instead of my vegetarian dish which was an issue. I think this was an honest mistake so I wouldn't hold it against them but check your order before you get home like I did. Also when I was there: about November 2014 they didn't accept cards and so you need to have enough cash on you to save your embarrassment. This might have changed since I was last there though.

After an earlier positive review, things appear to have changed. Dinner last Sat evening. VERY disappointing. A pleasant greeting, but that was about it. Placing the order was a bit "hard sell", "you need a Nan because there isnt much food otherwise" (that was not true, there was loads and most of the Nan was left). The food was dreary ('Unisauce", a lot of it tasted the same). The lamb was tough, the chicken was solid, the Bombay Aloo just wasnt, (it was boiled potatoes in Unisauce) and the spinach, well the garlic was burnt and it ruined the dish. I had to distract the Manager from a long conversation at another table, where he sat for 15 mins on the back of a nearby chair nattering to a friend, to ask for the bill. The rest of the staff were all busy. They add a tip automatically, without asking. I made a complaint. All the Manager did was promise a freebie next time. What next time? I live in the town, love Indian food, and there will be no next time. Very sad. Oh yes and they had lost the table reservation too.

The quality of the food and service is obviously appreciated as Fridays and Saturdays are really busy for this smallish Indian restaurant. Bringing our own drinks was no problem and it made the meal excellent value overall.

Found this restaurant by accident as couldn't get in at the local pub. It is a cash only place with no licence for alcohol- bring your own or pop to the pub next door and bring it in. We settled for soft drinks as driving anyway. Waiter very pleasant and eager to please. Decor simple and plain in the restaurant but we were there for food not decor. The food was lovely would particularly recommend the Mumbai special. Price reasonable. Would definitely visit again. Very accommodating with the children.

Nice food but expensive can't pay by card as it's a cash only place with no alcohol licence so it's bring your own. They seem to be very slow at getting your own alcohol to you. Food slow waited nearly an hour for starters then a huge wait for the mains! Have tried the take out service too only to be flabbergasted at the cost!

Nice location, great staff and excellent service. Very unique food- tasty, authentic and beautifully presented. Atmosphere could be better I.e. Music? However, busy little place. Also as a Bring your own bottle- this is great, but bill considering is can be rather pricey (particularly if you opt for seafood- but king prawns are wonderful!) 1 starter, one rice dish, a naan and 2 mains approx £40.00. Would highly recommended if you like a good Indian.

Very nice new place in Uppingham. Reception is pleasant, decor is comfortable if a bit stark in colour. Menu is not huge bit certainly adequate choice and interesting. Service is good; efficient and friendly (once served they do leave you alone rather too much, perhaps to a fault). Food quality excellent, value good too. No cards, so take cash. no licence, so take drink or get it from the pub next door (another interesting story). Well worth a visit if you like Indian food.

Food is consistently good and well above the average Inidian in terms of choice and quality of ingredients. Staff are friendly and service good. It is a "bring your own" for alcohol, which is fine - keeps the cost down. It is small and if you arrive after 8ish at a week-end, expect the time between courses to be rather long. It is cash only for payment. You must book at week-ends.Justifiably very popular and worthy of a decent tip!

Having lived in Leicester until just seven years ago I wouldn't eat a curry elsewhere. With no local competition Indian restaurants in the countryside are rarely successful. However, now the Red Indiian has opened I'll take that back. Great food, lovely varied menu, brilliant BYO service. Takeaways are great, however very pricey in comparison to the local Chinese takeaways. Be aware though that they don't take cards so you'll need to take cash. This threw me the first time but once you know it isn't an issue.

Came here partly to celebrate my daughter's birthday, and , having visited once before, must say it's the best Indian food I've ever had! We loved the starter of poppadoms and mixed accompaniments----so tasty! The main courses were truly amazing, and imaginative, and all agreed of top quality. It's great you can bring your own wine/beer, and so we fetched along a nice Prosecco (for the celebration) and a bottle of red---which went down very well. Hard to beat this winning combination at these prices!!

I was a little surprised by the bring your own drink and pay in cash policy, but I could not fault the welcome nor the entirely delicious food provided. The food selection was different and the meals I chose were wonderful. I can understand why the restaurant started to fill up quickly even though it was midweek and early evening. If you are in the area, give it a try. My guess is you will be pleasantly surprised,

We visited here on Sunday evening and, whilst we didn't pick the best day to go as it was exceptionally quiet, the food and service were both excellent. The menu is imaginative and has a wonderful mix of traditional dishes and more unusual options. The dishes we chose were all bursting with flavour and notably fresh and well presented.Inside the restaurant it is very pleasantly decorated - and extremely clean - with crisp white linens and lovely wine glasses. We did feel that the restaurant could have done with some background music, as it was a little too quiet with so few fellow diners present and therefore lacked much ambience. In all though, we really enjoyed our meal here and, whilst it is a little more expensive than some other Indian restaurants in the area, we did feel it was worth it because of the wonderful food and exceptionally friendly and efficient service.

In the sleepy Rutland backwater of Uppingham lies Red India - an Indian restaurant that actually presents Indian food.So often, even in Birmingham, Leeds, Leicester, the Indian food is far too similar to Waitrose (other supermarkets are available). Delicious, yes, but not very Indian. This is different. One can taste the spice and sense the skill that has gone into preparing these dishes. The staff here are excellent - just the right amount of hip and service. You won't find starchy waiters who delight in your amateur navigation of the menu. More like a friendly face who is gleeful when you order Chicken, Tikka, Balti - oh and do you do Onion Bhajees..? (yes, they do and they are huge).Go off piste and you will find a great selection of simple, delicious Indian food. Try everything. The bring-your-own booze is universally liked (can't think why more restaurants don't adopt this, even if they are licensed) and makes the value of the food stand out.Final thought. Even the cash only policy seems to be a hit. We met someone coming out who remarked they had to go to the cash-point, but somehow felt they had properly paid for their meal rather than put it on tick.Hmm, maybe we are evolving at long last. Either way, we're booking again for next week....

Our first visit and certainly good enough to go again. Initial welcome was almost off-puttingly effusive but service generally was friendly and attentive. Food was definitely a level above the average Indian restaurant and the menu more varied than most. Good value, particularly as you take your own alcohol. However, I really object to the service charge being added without being shown separately. This is not a practice I have ever encountered before and it is only identified in very small print.

Food and service are still very good but the atmosphere has vastly improved due to dimmers! The more subdued lighting is so much better. We always enjoy a meal here - food never disappoints and the staff are always very friendly. Remember to bring your own alcohol and to get cash out though as they dont take cards...... Barclay's cash point further up the road toward the market place or cash machine in One Stop up the road.

Visited recently after a recommendation and was not disappointed. A great little restaurant serving a good variety of quality dishes, service was good, the place was spotlessly clean and the staff attentive, portion sizes were excellent for the price. It is cash only, no cards accepted, so you do need to make sure you've got money on you. If your drinking, then you have to take your own beer and wine as they don't sell alcohol, but they have no problem in serving your drinks and keeping your wine topped up. On the down side, parking was limited outside but was not too much of a problem unless of course the weather is bad. Overall a great little find and will definitely be going back.

Red Indiia offers some of the best Indian food in the area, whether dining in the restaurant or collecting a take-away. The staff are all very friendly and the BYO drinks is a definite benefit especially when it come to the bill. The only areas it falls down on is the lack of atmosphere with white walls and lots of bright lights to show them off, and the time it can take to receive your meals. It's worth ordering quickly especially if it is busy. We pay with cash when we go but I was told by a friend that they don't accept credit cards, so would be worth checking before you order.

Red Indiia is a very welcome restaurant in Uppingham especially as it is BYO so this cuts down the bill and we come more often! We have eaten here quite a lot since it opened with family and friends. The menu is quite extensive and the food is plentiful and delicious. The staff are all friendly and attentive. It does get busy especially towards the end of the week so booking is advisable. The only negative is it is too bright! Maybe some dimmers could be installed but because of the plentiful stark white ceiling lights and white walls it lacks atmosphere and identity. Some chill out music in the background would be beneficial also. ( the Raj in Kettering is good at this.)Its a shame the interior lets it down somewhat as we are very pleased to have it in the town.

For anyone looking for a good Indian meal Uppingham's Red Indiian Restaurant is a must. Superb helpful and friendly service. A map at the end of the menu to see where the delicious regional food originates in India. Our meal consisted of Vegetarian Sizzler, Sea Food Platter, Graeme's Goan Green Chicken,Chef's Nepalese Chicken and Garlic and Tomato Rice. All superbly and freshly cooked. The Red Indiian is a place to return to again and again. Well done and thank you for a super meal.

We arrive in the town at the pub we were staying in only to find that there was no food available that evening, being a Saturday evening around 18-30 that was a bit of an unwelcome supprise. Being a Saturday evening and not having booked a table everywhere was booked. We found Red Indian by chance and even though fully booked they took the effort to squeeze us in. Thef ood was superb, we just had a couple of dishes and a rice but I cant fault it. I didnt notice the service charge on the bill but still left a small tip as it was worth it on the food and service.

I have to admit that Asian food was not my favourite cuisine. A visit to this restaurant has changed my mind - the food was truly excellent. Service was immaculate as was the presentation. They have no license, but that is no problem as the Exeter Arms is next door. My only criticism is that the restaurant does not accept credit cards and,as far as I could see, this was not brought to our attention before dining. However, the next time I visit, and I will most certainly visit again, I will be better prepared.

Agree with previous review, the Green Goan Chicken was excellent and our party of four all enjoyed their food which was nicely presented and freshly prepared. Friendly waiters although rather forgetful at times.Nice ambience although rather noisy when busy, Need to be able to open windows when hot as it was on our visit. although a fan was supplied.BUT-check the bil!! When ours arrived it seemed rather high and on checking we found that it was £6 more than the figures added up to,. The reason was that in VERY small print at the bottom of the page it stated that 10% service charge was included. Please note owners, this should be much clearer and the amount of the service charge shown on the bill. We would have added a further amount for service had we not spotted this sleight of hand-could be considered sharp practice!

Filthy and Funny (Not in a Good Way) I checked in expecting a decent night's sleep, but instead got a front-row seat to a horror show. The bathroom was a masterpiece of grime, complete with a black mold mural and a used towel, perhaps left as a parting gift from a previous guest. And the floor? Well, it had a surprise for me - a bloody plaster. The sofa bed, my night's accommodation, was as inviting as a used mattress on a pavement. No undersheet? No problem! Just pure, unfiltered discomfort. And let's not forget the carpet, a relic from a bygone era, proudly displaying its battle scars in the form of stains and fraying edges. If you're looking for a truly authentic, "budget" experience, complete with a side of disgust, this is the place for you. Just remember to bring your own disinfectant and a sense of humor.
