We dine out multiple times a week at pubs and restaurants all over Cheshire. Honestly, I’ve eaten and drank here over 10 times and every time it is nothing more than perfect. Food is always cooked fresh and is always consistent. Service is always efficient and very friendly. If you’re local.. don’t bother going elsewhere.

Almost really good. A busy Saturday evening and the service was very good. My roast halibut was delicious and so were our side dishes. My husband’s beef Bourginon looked and tasted as if it been hanging around for a while on lukewarm mash which was like paste (over-mashed or reheated and left?) Renovation very nice but what a shame no character of the old building has been retained. The most negative bit was the noisiness. We had to shout to have a conversation. Some acoustic issues need some softening.

We gave Rascal and Radical a try for brunch and their menu had loads of choice, the food was excellent and service was good too. Coffees were amazing and the food was the best breakfast we’ve eaten in Tarporley - good portions, cooked healthily and great flavours. Would definitely recommend for breakfast/brunch/coffee!

Would recommend this as the best place in Tarporley for breakfast/brunch - the coffees are amazing, the menu is great and the food is delicious and healthy! We’ve tried a few places in Tarporley where the food doesn’t taste as healthy and the service isn’t great so we were really pleased to come across Rascal and Radical and will be definitely return soon!

First time visitors to this place on Sunday. Looked nice and inviting, heard good things. Service was poor, wasn’t even busy, stayed for one and left, no ambience, poor staff bar the elder dark haired lady who was great, even she looked a bit down trying to show the bar maid things, just wasn’t sinking in. They had a singer on this day, OMG, horrendous, just sat there and sang some songs in a style that didn’t suit her, slightly flat as well, must have been a friend or relative as my word was shocking. A couple of old dollys came in with little dogs, advised could only sit at the bar with them, they pulled a far and the lady went and got some blankets and sat them in the others seats (why have a rule and not enforce it). They looked like they could have been on a TV show like ‘elder Cheshire house wife’s’, dressed 20 years to young with makeup to boot. Hopefully will get better, staff is everything in this industry and especially on that street as must be 10 places to have a drink minimum, and 5 are defo preferred choice than here Was a bit of local market on, so had a wander round there and popped in to the swan instead.

We visited during the middle of lunch time and I was very surprised as we were the only people there. As we had downloaded a 30% voucher I wondered why it was empty and wondered if there was a reason. We started off with the cheese soufflé which was very nice and accompanied by a Waldorf salad, no mention prior to request if we had any allergies as this contained walnuts I would have thought it appropriate. We then moved on to the main beef Sunday lunch two slices of beef ( which was nice and hand cut) over a spoonful of mashed potato two roast potatoes a Yorkshire pudding 3 slithers of parsnip 3 small fine green beans and two flattened small heads of broccoli a poor selection/amount of vegetables being honest. We had to ask for extra sauces, ie horseradish & mint. 2 more people came in and at a later stage 2 more but apparently all visited because they to had the same voucher. We declined the sweet menu but during our lunch not one request to see if the food was up to standard or further drinks or even tea or coffee. Missing out here. What I thought was really poor I ordered a Diet Coke and was served a 200 mil yes 200 mil for not a staggering but extortionate price of £3:75. Taking the glass and the ice to one side I could have bought 5 ltrs for the same price. Sorry to say in this instance there was no atmosphere and unless the Rascal ups its game taking into account all the other competing places in the same road it won’t continue to exist.

Lovely place. Good good. Service was not good. Only waitress on area we sat was on her 1st proper shift... not her fault at all as she was very pleasant and cheerful. Not offered water although glasses on table. Sunday lunch and one of us asked for mustard sauce on the side but it was poured all over meat. Dirty plates not cleared away and manager had to tell her to move them. Incorrext cutlery given for desserts. No dessert menus given ... had to ask for them. We had a voucher for 30% off which we advised when we asked for the bill but this was not given. I am not blaming the waitress but not a good idea to have an inexperienced waitress on her own on a very busy Sunday. Will try again and can only hope more experienced staff are working.

My daughter and I went for Sunday lunch yesterday, a last minute booking and had such a lovely afternoon! The food was fantastic ( my duck was perfect) and even my fussy vegetarian teenager loved her two courses. There was an extremely talented musician playing and the only minus was that there were so few diners. We will definitely be back soon😁

Awful place. Looks very nice and staff are pleasant, if a little vacant. Poor value for money. Ordered a chicken kebab salad. Few leaves, two small tomatoes, a couple of slices of chicken and a tablespoon of humous. Total rip off. Then the waiter came to clear our table and asked if we wanted the dessert menu. As we were starving, we said yes. He brought the menu and we never saw him again. Half an hour later, they were stacking chairs and bringing in the potted plants from outside. We left, never to return.

We visited here on my birthday and were looking forward to it. We received a lovely welcome and the place is very nice. It was a Tuesday evening and not very busy,so there was not much atmosphere, but the general ambience was good. The menu was interesting and it all sounded good.Sadly this is where the positives end. We both chose The smoked Haddock and Clam chowder. When it arrived, firstly we were surprised at the tiny bowl it came in. The bowl was hot but the food was luke warm and had an unappealing skin on the top,it had obviously been sat on a hotplate for some time. This cost around£8.50 This was followed by the Spiced Crayfish and Brown shrimp risotto (sounded delicious) However again the portion was really small. It was not the creamy flavoursome risotto we expected. It was rather dry and didn't have much flavour at all and certainly wasn't spiced. The parmesan Tuille on the top was tasty, as was the garlic baguette. The table next to us ordered 3 portions and they were told there were only two portions left. Which made me wonder if it hadn't been freshly prepared that day. Anyway they refused to eat theirs and said it was inedible. We did eat ours as it would have been a pretty miserable birthday if we'd had to go away hungry. One positive is that we got a bottle of house wine ,as there was an offer on.This dish cost £16.50. In total It was a lot of money for what we got. Such a pity as the place and the staff were lovely. I'm afraid we won't be returning or recommending

Lovely Sunday roast, sirloin of beef, cooked to perfection with tasty roast potatoes and plenty of gravy. Accompanying vegetables and cauliflower cheese also good. Nice chocolate pudding and wine. Shame the restaurant was very quiet. There was some live music which was very good although a little loud for the very small audience/diners. We were told the restaurant is trying to build its Sunday roast trade. It does feel more like a cocktail bar but the food is definitely worth trying. Highly recommended.

This was a Sunday morning breakfast visit, my Mother Iaw wanted to try here, initial impression was good, nice decor & attentive on arrival. Ordered hot drinks which were not hot but barely warm. Ordered breakfast & although the place was not busy at all this took quite some time to arrive, an unacceptable wait in my opinion, we had all finished our drinks. Breakfast arrived &,was underwhelming to say the least my MIL ordered poached eggs on toast which came totally overdone, basically hard boiled eggs, she ate one & left the other two. The other poached egg on the full breakfast was the same & the black pudding was rock hard. I brought the eggs to the servers attention & he did agree that they were overdone. He resolved as best he could to be fair, offered to have more cooked but by this time we were past it, he therefore apologised & didn’t charge for two out of the three breakfasts. We were disappointed with the wait & the food & therefore wouldn’t visit again.

Friday afternoon in Dec, was cold inside as though no heating on, had a feeling we’d chosen wrong place, and wasn’t wrong. Food disappointing. Starter of chicken livers was swimming in a sickly sauce. ( this is my go to starter if on menu and only time I’ve been disappointed ) Husbands main was steak which had been sliced, but was luke warm, and served with McDonald’s type fries and rocket nothing else. My main was coq au vin, which should be in a rich thin -ish Beaujolais sauce this was more like the same creamy sauce the chicken livers were in and loaded with it, all you could taste was sauce. The place was not busy, so had the opportunity to apply more time to deliver good standards. Not the best dining experience at all.

Very slow service to say that the place was empty. Mum-in-law booked and was told 2:15 was the earliest table available. The place was dead. Took ages to get the order taken and then waited an age for the food to arrive. @ main courses had to be sent back as they were could - it didn't help that the plates were cold as well. The duck main course stated sweet potato mash and greens. The greens consisted of 2 sticks of asparagus! Tried to order puddings - another age before service appeared and then a huge wait for them to appear. Apparently on paying the bill (we had to put or coats on to get that to appear) we should ahve been offered complimentary coffees to make up for he cold main courses. Wont be back.

Came in October 12th for lunch, the place was very pretentious and the waitress was rude. When we made a simple request which was slightly different to the menu, we watched the waitress discuss with the manager where they both pulled a face at our ‘outrageous’ order. She then returned and said she could accommodate yet was rude and abrupt, leading us to just walk out. Prices are absurd aswell.

Upon arrival, the chef had to tell the waiter twice, that he had customers waiting. When ordering drinks, we waited a long time for them to arrive at the table. There were only 4 tables seated and 1 person sat at the bar. We had a long wait for the food to arrive too. We had a "full English", however, it only consisted of 1 sausage, 1 rasher of streaky bacon, 1 limp hash brown, 1 flat wet mushroom, 1 dessert spoon of beans, 1 overcooked poached egg, 1/2 a sloppy tomato, burned toast. 1 unexpected marrow bone, which tasted greasy, and, we couldn't eat it. Poor quality. Poor service. Trying to gain the attention of waiting staff was difficult. Then when asked for the bill to be split, for 2 separate couples, he brought the whole bill, on one receipt. At the till, the man overcharged, but my wife corrected him of the correct price. The best part of £31 for this 2nd rate breakfast/service, will not help the place stay open for long.

I don't give this place long after it's novelty wears thin! Weird menu not executed well. I had the tomato bruschetta as a starter, it was really salty, in general, hugely over-seasoned, tomatoes tasted of nothing. Duck salad main was mediocre, my partner had the rib eye, a poor cut but was cooked okay. We had to wait 25 minutes for our main courses however, despite the venue only being a third full, as the kitchen forgot about our order. We sat watching other tables seated after us, having their starters then mains, while we were left still waiting for our main courses and we struggled to get the attention of any staff - not great. Equally disappointing was the state of the ladies toilet which was a bit grim! Pee on the floor around the toilet, shredded toilet paper on the floor and what looked like water mark stains all over both the sanitary bin and hand dryer. Tip of you want to try this place is to ask to sit in the main restaurant area when booking a table, as the bar area is very noisy, disappointing as it's done out in a modern and stylish way. We had booked over a week earlier but were still seated in the bar area despite tables in the restaurant being free, we were subsequently moved to one of these tables having asked due to the noise, not ideal for a romantic evening for two. All in all, distinctly underwhelming experience at overwhelming prices.
