Rann Wartha in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Come in regular for breakfast as it’s cheap and cheerful, management just sat round eating breakfast no “good morning as you walk by” look miserable as sin. Breakfast was just dumped on table and waiter just walked off Awful service They need to be cheerful and greeting towards everyone!

Good service and the usual level of Wetherspoons food, which you really can't fault. Drinks are usually always good as well, you can generally always get a decent pint of Guinness.

Absolutely dead and with good reason. Short measured pints and attitude to match. In short; appalling. Surprised the staff don't wear Primark Pink.

Awful, food was terrible, beer tasted odd. Ordered a gammon with jacket potato, gammon was over cooked, egg was burnt, the (cooked) tomato was no larger than half a cherry. They even managed to ruin the peas! Only redeeming feature was the bar and waiting staff who were polite and happy. I understand it’s cheap and cheerful food but you do expect it to be edible.

I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The log fire was burning brightly which was very welcome on a cold day like today. Food excellent as always. Beer cheap, really good value for money. Old Rosie included on the real ale festival which was very well received by my husband. Excellent service by efficient and friendly staff.

We were served by a shift leader named Jordan who seemed pretty miserable bless him. We asked for BBQ chicken melt with crispy bacon, grilled halloumi NOT fried and my partner asked for a burger with NO onion rings. My bacon was instead under done, the halloumi was fried and my partner's burger came with onion rings. Either the shift leader didn't put what we wanted in the till or the kitchen didn't bother to read our order properly. The lady who took our plates away didn't ask us if our food was ok. All in all pretty poor service.

First of all I feel bad for making my first review on here a poor one but hopefully I'll be writing some better ones in the future. Now in my opinion the food is standard Wetherspoons fare, it's always going to be hit or miss depending on how busy they are when you visit, but generally it's reasonable for the money. The pub itself is quite nice with plenty of seating inside and a decent outside area and the toilets were clean. I have to agree with other reviews about the poor customer service as I witnessed an almost Basil Fawlty level of rudeness towards myself and other patrons. I suggest the manageress should look at her customer service skills and maybe at least try to be pleasant to paying customers. I probably will go back even it's just for the comedy value and cheap coffee!

Extremely rude staff! Female worker in particular who clearly has a dislike for children, made us feel really unwelcome. I’ve previously found the Rann Wartha to be ok but wont be returning again whilst they allow people like that to work there!

We have been regular customers of Wetherspoons since it started and frequently visit this branch in St. Austell. We have always had excellent food at reasonable prices and have never had cause to complain. Today we went in for lunch. I ordered a ham, mushroom and rocket pizza, which I have had many times in Wetherspoons all over the country. So...I do know what they should look like! When my pizza arrived, the topping was extremely sparse. There was minimal ham, 4 thin slices of a small mushroom and 2 bare stalks of rocket with 2 tiny leaves... not even one complete piece! Normally, there is a little pile of rocket. I didn't want to cause a scene by taking my plate across a busy restaurant, so went to the bar and asked for someone to come over to my table to see what they thought. The staff member who came over did not want to deal with it, but in the end , when we asked if it looked acceptable, agreed to change it. The pizza was replaced with one with more topping. The pizza was put in front of me, nothing was said and no one came back to check how it was. The staff remained very rude, non communicative and very unprofessional. I suppose I should not have complained, but in this instance it was unacceptable. Wetherspoons, in general, has raised it's prices, like everywhere, and portions have become considerably smaller. What makes it more reasonable is the included ( and cheaper) drinks. They need to watch this, as many friends and family have stopped eating in Wetherspoons because of this.

Not entirely sure where to start. Full of flies, small portions, dirty tables.... I mistakenly ordered a small portion of ham, egg and chips which was very small but as it was my error i took it on the chin. My daughter opted for a larger burger meal which came out on a larger plate the portion was shocking. I've added photos! As someone who eats in weatherspoons as a treat a few times a year it really was not the normal portion size that would be expected for the price and i've never had an issue with weatherspoon portions. My theory is that as it's a seaside town maybe they just like to take the p!ss out of holiday makers. Putting that aside there were about 10-15 flies flying around out eating area and the tables around us were full of peoples emtpty food plates and glasses - bar and waiting staff were just standing around chatting and laughing so it's not like it was too busy. for 3 of us we paid about £37 and we came out hungry. Was absoloutely gutted that would could have eaten elsewhere and got more for our money. I have family in st austell and they won't eat there again and neither will we when we visit them.

The manager only served us one lot of drink and then only one person got food in our family, we then tried to order more food and drink and was refused by the manager who had a dreadful attitude and spoke to us abrupt. will not be coming back here with my family and would advise others that want to have a nice day out with family and suggest to go somewhere to eat, to not go here. dreadful customer service.

Pasta dish was nice but child size portion. No milk in jug at drinks refill. My son's steak was 25% fat. Really gone downhill since we visited last year on holiday.

We have visited quite a number of Wetherspoons over many years, this was our first visit here. We had a couple of drinks here on a Sunday afternoon in August. The place was not too busy, quite clean and tidy, and the service was polite and helpful. I would visit again when in St Austell.

I've always thought that weatherspoons was unsatisfactory, but on this occasion it was really poor. I ordered on my phone for a steak meal. The plate turned up looking like someone had leftovers. I received a wafer thin steak, just a few chips, about 7 or 8. And a tiny portion of peas. On the select menu it had options of chip or salad, but could only select one or the other. My friends had a mixed grill and there plate was loaded up. I even got laughed at. I try to avoid weathspoons, but on some occasions when there's a function on there's no other option. Sorry for the bad review weatherspoons but I left and had to go McDonald's straight after. Poor very poor.

Fit the bill for a casual dinner while in St Austell. Classic Weatherspoon menu and attention to detail. The location was challenging to find but worth it.

Spoons are a typical place where it's either a hit or miss. In this case, it's a great fat miss. Breakfast was inedible in terms of what was put on the plate. Sausages were barely warm, hash browns were over crunchy, beans ( I could actually count the numbers this time) and was very tepid, eggs looked to be over cooked, mushroom was, the less said the better and then the bacon was bland. Saving grace was the warm crappucino. I knew I wasn't going to be dining at an establishment that is nowhere on par as the Ritz or Savoy but even if I was homeless, I would turn down the offer of the food from Wetherspoons. Its ok if you live in St Austell, a town full of Zombies where quality does not matter to them. Finally, the staff are, again, not vigilant in ensuring that the door to the Disabled Toilet is not kept shut. Three times I have had to make sure it remained close to stop "all visibilities are not visible" brigade from using it it. Pointless mentioning it to the staff as they will just nod their heads as if I was speaking in a foreign language. Not a pleasurable experience but then I had a gut feeling that all Spoons are catering for Zombies

This has got to be the worst Wetherspoons we have eaten in. The food was overcooked, not just one meal but all the food. Dry tasteless and poor., the cook and the staff taking the food to the tables obviously have no concerns over what quality they are sending out Wont be visiting this one again for food

Looking for a place to eat in St Austell is a pretty daunting task if you are not familiar with the town. We eventually found the Rann Wartha which, to be honest, being a Weatherspoons, we were a little dubious. We need not have worried. The staff were all friendly, efficient and helpful and the food - you get what you pay for - was great. And beer at almost half the price you pay anywhere else.............say no more! All in all, we had a great evening with great food and great beer. Definitely recommend The Rann Wartha.

Went here a week ago for food and drinks and on the whole we had a good experience. It might be a Wetherspoon pub but it has a good feel to the place. The food was nice and the service to our table was also very good. The staff worked hard to keep everyone safe during these times and two staff members in particular (the duty manager and a lad named Gareth) were supplying excellent service and also trying to keep 2 separate groups near us from breaking the Covid rules constantly, which was not an easy task but they remained professional at all times when dealing with them which I’m sure was difficult. All in all we had a good evening.

Went here for a meal. No advance booking and no queue to speak of. Gave our Track & Trace details, then shown to a table.My phone is old and cannot utilise the app and order at the table, so I asked If there was a "hard copy" menu available - the staff went one better and showed me an electronic "poster sized" order board affixed to a pillar ..... Brilliant. !!!!!!

Waited for our meal to come but when we came to eat it the food was cold. But still ate it as we had waited long enough for it to arrive and was hungry. People who had entered wearing masks then getting up walking around without them. Even a staff member having a conversation with one and laughing. Won't be going back.

Usual JDW pub. Good selection of beers normally but a lot of them particularly Shipyard and Punk IPA not available. Hostess at the front door was great with us and made us and our assistance dog feel welcome, even bringing him a bowl of water so hats off to you for that.Ordered lunch but everything off the grill was overcooked. Can’t complain at the price but not my best JDW experience, and I have had quite a few.

Problem here is mangers/dept manger/team leader El does nothing the staff run around she stands end bar ignoring people, playing on her phone, doing selfies, then if dave manger there she runs around actually doing work for a change whilst tother staff run around after her (she is rude not acknowledging people)

Having managed to get away to St Austell we found The Rann Wartha, all seemed in order no one was allowed in without filling in track and trace forms & really well organised on the door. We were seated at table 18 and ordered our food. As other tables were vacated and cleaned we became very aware that 90% of customers had to walk past us (less than 20 inches away from us) to access their tables and then walk past us again to fetch condiments, access the toilets etc. 1 woman walked passed me 6 times in about 5 minutes (so close that she brushed against my chair twice). We discussed with the duty manager that the table should not be in use as it was not possible to avoid close contact and therefore a covid risk - she agreed with us stating they had initially removed the table but her area manager had insisted it was reinstated and there was nothing she could do.Another case of Weatherspoons putting profit over customer safety!!!

Usual Weatherspoons, if you eat at these pubs then you know what to expect. Staff are friendly and taking all the precautions you would expect. We had the burger and pint deal and the food was hot and cooked well

Flat Pepsi, gristly steak and overcooked chips are not the problem here. I expect the food to not be great, it is Wetherspoons after all! But I do expect it to be cooked..... both steaks were underdone. So blue that the outside was still pink (unseared). When I questioned it with the waiter he asked ‘how did you ask for it done’ as if rare was supposed to be uncooked. 1st pic is husbands steak - asked for rare and got blue. 2nd pic if after mine was taken back to the kitchen to be recooked. No mustard sachets And when asked for the waitress said there wasn’t any mustard at all.No tartar sauce for the scampi.

Not a big fan of the chain but certainly turned up trumps this time.Pint was on offer so with a full English and a pint was a happy chappy. Very busy early on a mix of seniors like myself in for a pint and a spot of breakfast and locals having an early pint.The food was good and a decent helping. Cannot work out the free refill for the coffee some people were constantly at the machine but if its free its free. Smoking area out the back only and a nice beer garden. Toilets down stairs and a bit of a hike but clean and tidy. I noticed a lift out side but did not see it being used. Overall a good visit staff did seem a bit rushed but service overall was good.

We came in to burn time waiting for the night train back to London and as a not-so-frequent weatherspoons goer, I didn’t expect much. However I found the service to be much much more than expected and my evening vastly improved due to the addition of a few members of staff. Myself and our assistant dog in training interacted with 4 members of staff including 3 bar and 1 back of house. Notably the blonde lady (with purple at the back) on the bar dealt with us the most. She was more than kind and therefore the reason to write this review. She’s clearly a hard worker, polite, extremely quick, knowledgeable of the menu and drinks with the customer service of someone that owns their own place. She’s an assert to the team and I hope to god she’s paid more than minimum wage. Good luck to her.

Monday lunch time, waited at bar to order food and drink only two peope waiting in front, one barman at far end serving, when order finished he served people who had just walked up to the bar, didn't even look at other parts of the bar, no other bar staff. Gave it ten minutes then walked out. Just moved to St. Austell, first time in the Rann Wartha, will give it another try but very disappointed. Visited many Wetherspoons and never had a problem before.

We arrived, the place was busy, there was no one behind the bar for about five mins, customers building up behind us. The staff when they did arrive were under pressure but put a brave and pleasant face, cheery and helpful, but stressed. We sat at a table, two tables for four pushed together, covered in the glasses, plates and food of the previous customers. We cleared one table on to the second and took some stuff back to the bar. We also cleared bones from the spare ribs and chips off the carpet. The sleeves of my shirt stuck to the table. We found menus from other tables, all were stained with food or drink. A member of staff came and took some of the glasses away. He was a tables length away and stank overpowerlingly of BO. He never returned to clear the remainder of the glasses/plates, or to clean the table. The beer was very good and excellently priced. But by then we had been thoroughly put off the place and left, with the feeling of 'Thank God we'd got out of there'. Skimping on a couple of staff is a very false economy.

The food was lovely, both came with a drink which was nice.... Strange though as they had no ketchup in the whole building.

We just fancied a quick cheap meal and that is what we got, a good value quickly served meal. The place was decorated lovely for Christmas and very welcoming.

I went into this establishment with some friends and expected some food and drink, just as a quencher to finish off my evening in town.Upon arrival to order at the bar, I was greeted by the the bar man saying he would serve me next but instead he approached and served a couple that arrived in the establishment after me. I did receive my drinks eventually. I sat down with my companions to order some food. .3 of us ordered a large mixed grill, of which they were asked how it would like to be done. These dishes did not their expectations and we were aggressively asked to leave the premises based on the fact of how we wanted our ie medium rare in terms of the steaks and a burger that was cooked.

Not great. Food Luke warm and overcooked. Nice atmosphere although we were here for breakfast a fight had just occurred.

Part of the Weatherspoons brand - excellent value for good tasting food. As well as specially offers for the whole week - curry Thursday and fish Friday.

Have visited twice in 4 days because the food was absolutely delicious, freshly made at acceptable price. The staff is doing a great job, they are very busy between 6 and 8 PM, attention to detail, very pleasant atmosphere. Recommended for food and drinks.

4 attempts to have a well done steak meal and every time it was as if it had been cut straight off the cows ass, I think the chef need lessons on how to cook, it’s a shame because the staff seem friendly enough.

My partner & I popped in for dinner yesterday & I have to say it’s one of the worst Wetherspoons we ever visited. I ordered the pizza & partner had mixed grill, well the pizza arrived absolutely burnt to a crisp so I sent that back & the meat on the mixed grill was rather dry but edible. A fresh pizza arrived which was smaller but least it was edible & then we ordered dessert, one was ok but one was the wrong dessert so sent that back, 15 mins later it arrived with melted ice which wasn’t even half a scoop so pretty Poor & certainly wouldn’t go back & poor service!!!

I know Wetherspoons isn’t the best pub in the world but I knew they would have the Rugby World Cup on as they’ve been promoting it for weeks. I got there at 1130 for a 1145 kick off. I spoke with numerous different members of staff who said they would change the channel from Sky News (muted) to ITV for the rugby. To cut a long story short, the staff were not very helpful, the service was poor and lacklustre, the manager was rude and aggressive. It took them 48 minutes to change the channel to put on the rugby. Lots of customers left to go to another pub. I won’t be back to watch another game.

My family and I came for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Breakfast took a while to come out but was stone cold when it eventually arrived. My dad spoke to the lady behind the bar who apologised and said they’d sort some more breakfasts out. This time mine an my dad’s came out hot, but mums was warmer than before but not hot. We could not fault the staff as there were only 2 people working on a busy Saturday morning. Why can’t you get more staff on to help? Only 1 hand dryer working in the ladies toilets. This has been like this for a while now. Probably one of the worst spoons we’ve been to.

We visited today and used the app to order fast delivery and service of drinks and the food we ordered. Standard spoons food and menu you can get everywhere else.

We looked and searched for ages on a. Monday night staying here in st austell, when we found this weatherspoons we were very happy as me and the other half love a spoons and so does the boy. Very busy and upbeat for a Monday just what we were looking for. Great atmosphere cheap food and with spoons you always know what you’re getting! Recommended!

I ordered a baked potato with tuna mayonnaise and my friend the broccoli soup. My friend said the soup was the nicest broccoli soup she had tasted. My baked potato was served with a side salad and I enjoyed it.

Went here for breakfast and again another night for dinner, enjoyed both meals good service was busy at night.

Lamb shanks with mash and no discernible veg in the dish as we have had at other Wetherspoons. Fish in batter so overcooked that the fish in the batter disappeared. Mushy peas looked like soup or purée. Chips that were clearly old and had been re cooked. Chicken wrap was cold. Avoid this place like the plague! When asked if he would eat what we had been served he said no, he wouldn’t. Absolutely awful and not worth wasting your time or money to visit...go to The Britannia where you are guaranteed edible, high quality food, unlike Rann Wartha where the chef clearly needs more training in the use of his microwave! Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Well presented Wetherspoons great service and good food, the breakfast was lovely and we really enjoyed the fish and chips

Although it's quite high up in the town the pub is easily accessed from the nearby Priory car park. It is popular with both locals and visitors. There is the usual Wetherspoons menu with the midweek "club" nights. The choice of beers was excellent and ever changing. A good place to eat in St Austell.

Decent place for a cheap drink and reasonable pub food. Plenty of seating options both inside and out. Staff were friendly and helpful. They appeared understaffed since no attempt was made to clear the many used tables.

We asked for fish but none available so we substituted fish for scampi. It looked nice but the scampi was more water than fish

Went for some food which I have no complaints about although I feel a if the bar service could be improved as it is a busy pace and not many people behind the bar. Also I feel as if some of the members of staff are rude and up tight although not all. Staff members should be polite and welcoming at all times

Ate here on 2 evenings and 1 breakfast last week. All food was exactly as we expected and we had no complaints. The beer was in excellent condition which some 'spoons establishments seem to struggle with. The staff also stood out as very quick, efficient and helpful, another thing which some 'spoons struggle with. I'd re-visit if I'm in the area again.

One of the best Wetherspoons I’ve been in. Friendly staff, Great food and as always, cheap drinks. Would definitely recommend .

Average weatherspoons, hungry ate there, sorted, staff are friendly, we had two traditional breakfasts

We arrived here after a day out at the Eden project and I was very happy with the service and the food. It all came out very quickly the staff were nice and the pub itself is in a good state compared to other spoons I have visited. My kids enjoyed themselves as well so all in all a very good evening, the only downside was that the WIFI signal was pretty poor as was the phone signal which made ordering through the Wetherspoon App very difficult.

You made my little girl very happy today with your little santa area. It was great for your first day. Well done guys!

A pint of Doom Bar is £1.99 in here. What more can you say than that? Good new clean pub with friendly staff.

As with my previous visit earlier this year I called in on my way to the railway station. Again, I found a table and ordered via the app. The barman came over to apologise for a delay, as he had to change the barrel - that's good customer service. The meal and drink arrived together (around 10m) which is about the same as other Wetherspoons despite the delay for the barrel change.The food was good as before and very busy for the time of day! 2/2 Rain Wartha, I will be back next time I visit St. Austell.
