Recently had a meal here with my wife and two young boys , a fantastic friendly service, very attentive. Food was amazing. We can’t wait to come back.

First time had this for a takeaway and not one bit disappointed. Food was as good as eating inside the restaurant. Staff very polite as always. 5* all the way!!

Went for the Thursday evening special deal. Group of six of us, my daughter libby and her partner being regulars as it's their local. Seriously couldn't fault it, the service was great, ambience too and food was faultless. Amazing value too. We will absolutely be back. See you on the 25th. Thanks @the raj. Amazing.

Damn awful, worst curry for sometime, wasn’t ready when arrived and was even told by a guy working there that they always tell people it will be 20 mins knowing it will be a lot longer, all part of the sales tactic’s apparently!?

I have stopped using the Raj for takeaway now. Each time I arrive to collect the food (at the time they advise) the food is NEVER ready. I’m fed up with having to sit in the restaurant and wait for another 20 mins when we often have guests at home waiting. I now use the Dulhan down the road plus they have a ready good app to use on the phone plus they deliver! Perfect.

My wife and I visited this restaurant for dinner last weekend for the first time for 2/3 years and found it as we remember it. It's a local restaurant to us and we were pleased to find it as we remember it. It's not what I would describe as a destination venue but we thoroughly enjoyed our meals - we had two shashlik's with side dishes and bread, and the service was very attentive, which it should of been as, unfortunately for them, the place was almost empty. But I'd be happy to return for a casual local curry

I thought I would try this place as it is a short walk from where I usually stay in Sevenoaks, and I fancied a change from the pub. Best I can say is that it is 'OK'. Service was polite, but slow (I contemplated just walking as I was giving up the will to wait for the bill to finally arrive). The food was OK, very generic Indian, nothing memorable about it. I LOVE Indian food, but will probably just go to the pub next time.

We were "take away" regulars at this High Street restaurant but during the pandemic we reduced our eating out activities. It was always reliable for a reasonably priced and quality curry so it was with some expectation that I returned for another "take away" last evening. Service, as usual, was polite and efficient but the food quality was just awful. Have they changed owner or chef or both? The Lamb Jalfrezi had lumps of tasteless, tough meat that could have been several days old. The Tarka Dhal resembled a thin yellow soup and also lacked flavour, The Brinjal Bhaji was acceptable with succulent pieces of tender aubergine but even the Special Fried Rice tasted stale. These 4 dishes cost £22.10 and as I had to throw away most of the contents, it was very poor value.

Great traditional curry house. Been using them for years and not top notch curry but very good nonetheless. Think of the curry houses that you visit that you know roughly what it will taste like and you can never go wrong. Big shout out to Abdul who is always a great host and Sam the owner. Keep up the great consistent work.

We visited the area for a weekend away from home. Went into Borough Green to explore the area and stumbled across this restaurant. We were delighted with the quality of the food. The service was friendly and overall a good atmosphere. I had left my beanie at the restaurant by mistake and they kindly posted it to my address after I called to tell them about it.

Firstly upon arrival myself and my girlfriend were greeted by a rude and arrogant waiter who definitely didn’t want to be there, service was okay and food came out fast but then you start to eat and realise how bad the food is , the chicken was hard rubbery and couldn’t cut with a knife , Bobayaloo was terrible and popadoms just tasted of cooking oil This is all tell tail signs of microwave cooking , just pure lazy ness No wonder the restaurant was dead only 3 others Bad food bad service I give this one a 3/10 Will never return good luck to them and there fake chicken and oily poppadoms

Good traditional atmosphere… Hasn’t changed for over 30 years but liked by locals. Needs a makeover but where would you start!

Someone working there smokes a lot. As soon as you walk in it hits you. Very old fashioned decor and menu. Food was not too bad if a bit oily but anything with mince, including kebabs, heavily over salted. Lamb dish tougher than my teeth ! We won’t return.

Our local for over 20 years, same ownership, never fails. Eat in or take away as you'd expect, the food is always good. Solid and reliable.

The naan bread wasn’t bad but the prawn dish with banana and y Lychee lack very many prawns plus the container was only 40% full

Ordered a take away, told the time it would be ready but it was a few minutes late. Got the food home and found that most of the food was very good but sadly one element wasn’t wrong, it was only a wrong type of Naan, but sadly I love naan bread and I was given one with crumbly coconut, not nice, otherwise good.

Our great friends run this excellent restraunt. It is firmly rooted in the past, it still has friendly and attentive service without being pushy and the food is old style, tasty and plentiful. We have used this restaurant from the week it opened to this day and have NEVER had any complaint. I hope you will find the same if you dine here.

Ordered a takeaway last night 04-04-20 for 3 of us had a beer while I waited 10 minutes later food came out absolutely brilliant Garlic naga chicken Tikka masala & a Korma Rices & other bits & pieces empty plates at the end of our meal thank you Raj Regards Adrian

We ordered a take away by phone, when we arrived I paid and was told it would be 3-4 minutes before it was ready. 15 minutes later they bought "my order" out, that was totally wrong! I pointed that out, they then told me I had cancelled it, I pointed out that was unlikely as I had just paid for it. About ten minutes later the food eventually arrived! The food itself was lovely but wow a spectacular level of disorganisation. You REALLY need to get your act together

Terrible. I phoned an order for a Mixed Biriani (Chicken Lamb Prawn) late in the evening. Collected ok from the Restaurant, but when I got home I found my mixed Biriani was only Lamb, I think. I say I think, because there definitely wasn’t any Chicken or Prawns, only some rather disgusting, extremely tough and chewy pieces of something that tasted awful. I think was cooked and left to stand for about a week. This incorrect order has happened before and although annoying hasn’t been a problem, but what I received last night has to be the most disappointing meal I have ever had from any Indian restaurant. Sorry, but I don’t think I will coming back again.

The food has always been good but the one thing that disappoints me is the noise. It's fine for people to have fun but the volume does tend to get unbearable sometimes when large groups are there. Is this a problem with the acoustics or am I just getting old?

Stopped off to order a takeaway. Curries were tasty and cooked fresh. Staff friendly and helpful. Parking in street opposite but could get busy.

This is a great curry house with good quality food and excellent service. Our group of six was made to feel very comfortable and were well looked after. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Sadly, I’ve been coming to the Raj for around 15 years for their completely subpar food. Onion bhajis are always over fried. Butter chicken comes in a sea of overly milky (coconut?!) sauce with little flavor. Palak paneer has cheddar cheese on top. This is pointed out on the menu, mind you, just in case you might assume the palak paneer contains genuine Indian paneer... (Frankly, this detail really says it all for me.) I find all the curries to be overly oily and mostly tasting the same. Veg curry that comes with biriyani is overly salty and doesn’t have any curry flavor. The meat in the lamb dishes is not of good quality and often tough... It reminds me of institutional food. The service is never overly friendly or attentive. The decor and laminated menus are tired. The wine selection is sad. Why this restaurant gets so many good reviews is completely beyond me. I have only continued to eat there because local elderly relatives insist upon going.

Great food great service all at a very reasonable price

The Raj in Borough Green never disappoints. The food is always full of flavours, We had a range of dishes, Lamb Pathia, Chicken Tikka and a Vegetable Curry, two types of bread, two types of rice and it was all first class. The service was prompt and attentive and very efficient. It is not hard to see why it is always crowded and so is worth booking first.

Had a lovely meal out with a couple of girlfriends, a couple of bottles of prosecco, plain & spicy poppadoms, Chicken & Vegetarian Jalfreysis, Lamb Shaslick, Tarka Dhal & Mushroom rice, finished off with Irish Coffees - heavenly!!! Only complaint is that the 'young' waiter still doesn't understand that you need to keep the prosecco unshaken to open - well at least he didn't spritz the party on the next table (unlike last time)!

A group of five or six of us eat at the Raj every two or three months or so. The food is generally ok but varies according, I guess, to who’s doing the cooking and although I’ve tried several dishes none of them have really stood out. Service is also generally ok but there is one particular waiter who can be quite rude. However, the other staff are friendly enough and we have no problem continuing to have our get-togethers here.

Food was acceptable, service ghastly. Staff are surly, and had the cheek to add a service charge, which I did not pay. Typical small town mentality, they presumably have enough trade from their regulars, so they cannot be bothered with trying to impress passing trade. They won't be getting any more of my money in their till.

I have had a number of meals here but this was the first time in 2019. We had booked for 19.00 but, although our starter arrived promptly, our order for mains was not taken until 20.00! We also had to ask twice for more drinks. When the food came it was very good but, overall, the waiting spoilt the meal.

Excellent Indian restaurant. Whether you eat in or take away the Raj is outstanding! Delicious food and superb service!

Sam at The Raj has been our ‘go to’ Indian Restaurant for 20 years. The food is consistently good and Sam ensures the service is attentive. Our sons always choose the Raj for their birthday family meal out.

Good food, nice staff, clean toilet.

After driving from Lincoln to visit family we decided to eat out rather than cook. All 3 of us ordered very different meals. I asked how hot was the Madras and Vindaloo as I fancied something spicy. Opted for the lamb vibdaloo which was very tasty, spicy, nice and hot but not enough to kill the taste buds. Garlic Nan breads were really good as we're the poppadom sharing starters. Will be going back again to try the Madras.

Not the biggest of restaurants but they are extremely well organised, very attentive and the service was excellent. There’s an extensive menu which makes choosing quite different! Both our starters and main courses were superb and not expensive. Recommend it to anyone whether you’re local or visitors like us!

Having recently moved to Borough Green, my partner and I decided to try one of the 2 curry houses in the area. The man that took our order was quite blunt, slightly rude on the phone and hung up without telling us when it would be ready for collection so we had to call up again and ask. This should have given us alarm bells as unfortunately there was nothing positive about the food. The whole tandoori chicken we ordered was not a whole chicken, instead was 4 chicken legs and no breast meat, which was terribly dry and luke warm anyway. The sag paneer was spinach with melted cheddar on top, so not sure why it’s got paneer in the name? My chicken tikka bhuna, had no spice or flavour at all and tasted nothing like any bhuna I’ve had previously. The onion bhajis were big, dry, oily disks and not appetising at all. To be honest it was one of the worst curries I’ve ever had and at over £30 it was very disappointing. Needless to say we won’t be going back and will make sure to warn others of our experience!

We have been coming to Raj for over 20 years!! Super friendly service and the best curry in my opinion.

I have lived locally for 7 years or so and this place has not changed one bit. Menu has not changed..it is extremely popular with locals. The food is good but not out of this world. You will not find dishes on the menu that you would not find elsewhere. It is steady and can be relied upon to deliver a tasty Indian meal. Never had a problem with service when eating in but takeaway service can be very busy and slow at weekends. Not outstanding but absolutely nothing wrong with this place either...

Quite simply the worst food I've eaten in a long time. I wouldn't even call it Indian food. Vegetable Balti was completely tasteless and mainly consisted of onion. No cauliflower, potato or chickpeas etc. But the biggest insult was the so-called saag paneer. They served us spinach with melted cheddar cheese. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of Indian food knows that cheddar cheese is not paneer. It was inedible. Wasn't cheap either. Avoid.

Very insipid meal, was going to ask if the flavour would be delivered on a separate plate, service was OK just no taste to the curry.

Siempre hemos disfrutado de comer en este restaurante, pero me parece que la calidad de la comida no es lo que una vez fue. Cenamos en un sábado por la noche y el restaurante estaba muy lleno. Esto puede haber afectado el nivel de la comida un poco. Reserva fue tomado y lugar estaba reservada a tiempo por el gerente muy amable como siempre. La cerveza estaba fría y se sirve con poppadoms. Hasta ahora tan bueno. Tres platos principales, aunque eran muy malísimo. No es gambas gambas korma en una salsa de coco con azúcar. Al vindaloo de pollo no es una salsa básica con un poco más de chili en polvo arrojado a. . Y NO ES espinacas paneer masala cubiertas con queso Cheddar. Dicho esto, los precios eran razonables y me gusta comer allí si la dirección podría resolver los problemas de control de calidad arregló de nuevo. Personas NO aviso.

Great curry house brilliant food

It's small but you will get the best traditional UK Indian meal. In the high street Borough Green Kent. Village car park is opposite.

This is my local Indian restaurant and I have been eating there for many years. This is not just the best in the village, but the best in the area. Always perfect food, warm and friendly service and with a reputation for excellence that has been well earned.

Only stayed in the restaurant for 20 minutes. Served 8 Poppadoms and all were moist. When this was raised to a waiter he said that's because we have only just opened and suggested if we waited an hour they would be fresh. Didn't want to change them so with that all 4 of us just left. £100 spent in a better restaurant not too far away.

We paid up & left after just one of 8 poppadoms. They had clearly been done in old oil & they were not crispy but soft & bendy. When i asked the waiter for different ones he was not interested so i didn't fancy the rest of my meal being done by the same people. Paid my bill with a discount of 4 poppadoms, geee thanks man. Went locally to a different Indian restaurant & it was a complete contrast. In my opinion, & its only mine, stay well away.

Si comer excelente comida en el restaurante o para llevar, el servicio es excelente, con un personal encantador y amable. Hemos sido antes tanto para sentarse y tomar distancia y sin duda volvería otra vez! Ms S chicos

We visited this restaurant about 6 years ago and I wasn't impressed, however I thought it would have improved so decided to give it a try. The starters of tandori chicken was acceptable. Byrianni was very bland and the "special" that my husband had was "OK". We were not offered desserts or coffee just given the bill, although I would not have stayed any longer anyway. Service was OK but they forgot a drink so far from perfect.

Limited choice as we were camping locally but luckily we tried this as it was the best curry we've had in ages. We were fortunate to get a table on a Friday night as hadn't booked and very busy.Good value and a great family meal with quick service and delicious food. The favourite was the prawn puri and king prawn dansak.

Always great food every time I have been and friendly staff. However I agree with a previous comment about the Vindaloo as when I have orderded this dish it has been much milder than expected.

Whether takeaway or eating in, always a great meal. Recommend booking for the usual busy times, Friday's are often full.

My friend and I decided to visit the local Indian which turned out to be the Raj Tandoori. We firstly called to see if they could fit us in for a nice dinner and to make sure they were serving food. We were spoken to very poorly, there didn't seem to be any system of making a reservation. We were slightly hasty to visit the restaurant but we decided to go ahead as we were starving! When arriving at the restaurant there was no greeting, we were literally pointed to a table and There was absolutely no atmosphere. The two members of staff working out front were very miserable looking and had a rude presence. We were served flat soft drinks which we asked politely to swap and still received a flat soft drink. We received our meals quite quickly but the food was lukewarm, and we were not checked back via the staff once. When it came to paying the bill, we were surprised to see they had added a 10% service charge to the bill. Now... I work in hospitality and this restaurant does not deserve a service charge especially as we were the only people in there! We asked to take the service charge off- to then be questioned as of why! My friend explained she wasn't happy paying it and wanted to split the bill via card. I was grunted at for not having a contactless card and also had the machine snatched from my hand, and my friend was charged an extra 10p via her payment which just shows how much this waiter wasn't concentrating on his customers. Really disappointed and will definitely not be returning! Such a shame as the food was quiet tasty- but I personally would rather eat somewhere where I am made to feel welcome.

Both eat in and takeaway from here and have always thoroughly enjoyed the good and atmosphere.

The Raj is our local and we use it often for take away's and for meeting up with the girls (they accommodate our nattering and catching up late into the evening). The food is traditional curry house dishes - they are tasty and good value. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
