Lovely food. Rubbish service given it took 90 minutes to receive food. The attitude at paying the bill was unbelievable. The young guy behind the bar needs a few lessons in customer service!! Go elsewhere as there are other choices Indi18 for one.

What a shocking fall from grace. I have recently moved back to the area and Alishan was my go to Indian from age 18, I’m now 41. I decided to get a takeaway and my god, I now wish I hadn’t. Order kali mirch methiwala murgh - pure salt, no hint of fenugreek, just a horrible base curry sauce (totally inedible) Onion bhaji, completely soggy not a ball, just strips of batter which didn’t have the spice flavour I’m used to from other restaurants. (Inedible) Vegetable Dhansak - not sweetness or sour, again pure salt (not a hard dish to do well) Popadoms were acceptable as were the chutneys. Garlic naan was average. I like them to be a little crispy. This could be personal preference though. I called the Alishan to complain and was told I’d get a discount next time. No offer to refund any or at least part of the bill. This would have been appreciated. I won’t be returning again. I did ask if the chef had changed and was told no. I simply don’t believe this. I can cook better this and do. A very sad experience.

After going out for three curry’s in nine days, we left the best until last. Five of us were for my sons birthday, booking was easy over the phone, service was excellent, food was delicious. Already planning a return trip. Massive shame there were not more people in there, their food deserves a bigger audience.

The curries at Alishan were exceptional. To me, their curry was a revelation. Of note was the Alishan Special that, believe me, had an incredible depth of flavour. Sadly no more. It seems likely that there has been a change of chef in the kitchen and the quality has drastically suffered. This was my curryhouse of choice but after several disapppintingly bland meals I wont be going there again and dear reader, believe me when I write that while they were worthy of using the moniker 'award winning curry', that time has passed and to continue to peddle that line leaves one feeling cheated and not a little embarrassed for the establishment that was once so very good.

Visiting in a Saturday after the first payday since Christmas, it became very busy and we were politely asked to vacate the table after we’d paid. I didn’t mind that. But the food was rather bland. I don’t mean lacking in heat - I don’t measure my masculinity in terms of the Scoville Scale - just devoid of much flavour. I ordered the Alishan Special from the ‘Connoisseurs Choice’ menu. It was very bland. My wife had a different dish, but it tasted identical. Our tarka dhal and saag bhaji were also tasteless. Our son’s CTM was very good - you could actually taste the coconut and almonds. Although it’s menu description is oxymoronic: “Invented by a world famous but unknown British Curry House the early 70’s.” The bill came in an American Express folder. They don’t take American Express.

over ten years we've used this restaurant less and less. It has been great but that was a long time ago. Last couple of tries have been really bad. This time my keema naan was inedible, the sauce on my pathia was watery and the chicken hard and rubbery, maybe previously frozen? The butter chicken was much closer to a passandra and way to sweet even for my son. not sure they care anymore.

Me and my partner love this restaurant, the food is amazing and the service is great. Very well decorated. Was stung by the £1.50 per Poppadom when the bill came out they were stale as well but we didn't say anything due to them normally being cheap and just something to start you off. Did query it when the bill came but they defended their decision to charge this amount for them. It seems like a con because everything else is reasonably priced and they know these are always ordered when a visit is had. Thought I would put this review out to warn anyone else visiting.

The price is reasonable and it is located bang in the centre of Tonbridge. The staff are friendly and quick to take your order and the food is prepared in good time. There are many Indian restaurants in the Tonbridge area and the Alishan is by far the best. There is much competition for example the Tumeric Gold is Tudely. When I say that this place is unremarkable, it is meant as a compliment. All too often the typical Indian restaurant is a let down - dodgy meat, limp poppadoms, watery chutneys, horrible bathrooms, etc. The food at Alishan is good - not spectacular, but very nice. Poppadoms and breads seem fresh, service is unobtrusive and efficient. Prices are good - currently they seem to be offering 20% off (possibly just food), so a substantial meal, with four large Cobras for four men last Saturday night cost about £75.

So dear Reader, I succombed to social media advertising and booked a table for 3 at the Alishan Restaurant in Tonbridge. According to their website, we were going to be treated to an award winning experience which is not only the best in Tonbridge but in Kent generally! Wow! Can't wait! I am a firm believer in the "under-promise-over-deliver" model and to let the service and products do the talking. So, does the Alishan Restaurant live up to its website hype? The food is cooked by an obviously talented chef who is also well aquainted with the history of India's cuisine. Even the classic westernised dishes which have their roots firmly in Britain are cooked and presented as if they were recipes dating back centuries! The decor is modern and designed in such a way that table conversations can be held without disturbing the neighbours. Always an advantage and one that other restaurants seem to sadly lack. The wine list is well considered and also caters for most tastes and budgets. So, does it live up to it’s hype? It's very good but I leave that verdict to you dear Reader!

I was in Tonbridge on my own looking for a quick lunch and saw Alishan, which looks smart from the outside. I went in and apparently they do not usually open for lunch on a Friday (?). However, the chap at front of house asked the kitchen and they were happy to serve me, even though I was the only person there. An interesting menu with a lot of seafood options and a Murghal orientation. Boringly I went for Chicken Jalfrezi, Basmati Pilau rice and a baby aubergine side dish. The food was very good, not overly spicy, although the chillis provided a kick if required. The babyaubergine side dish was excellent. Overall a very good experience even as a lone punter. The telephone was fairly busy with people booking tables for the weekend, so I guess it is popular too.

As a British Bangladeshi having savoured Indian cuisine from various regions of the UK, I must admit the menu at Alishan is truly unique in its composition. It consists of primarily classical mughal era dishes which are not found in the 'average' indian restaurant and provides a historical window into the grand dishes prepared by the great chefs of the mughal palace kitchens. All in all i must say a truly unique indian restaurant serving truly unique ancient AUTHENTIC Indian cuisine. While there i ordered a speciality of the house known as zinga jafrani a beautiful king prawn dish and railway lamb a renowned dish created for the British while building the acclaimed indian railway. On top of all the extravagant dishes the service was truly impeccable and of a superior quality. Ultimately I give it 5 stars and i very much believe you will do the same.

I have previously raved about Alishan, but feel the need to do so again after a wonderful dinner last night. Impeccable service, succulent meat contained in their Braised Lamb with Yogurt, and for the first time we tried their house brandy which was a wonderful way to end the meal. Alishan continues to be my favourite restaurant in Tonbridge.

We once thought that the Alishan was the bee knees when we went there and we had been for many a year. We also liked take away from them too, until recently! The facts are that we had ordered a takeaway from them which came to over £50 as it was a family meal. And when it arrived there were a few items missing from the order, so we rang up to ask about the missing take away and we were shocked to be told that they were sorry for the mistake and to remind them about it the next time we ordered from them and they would add the missing items to our order! Talk about awful customer service! So the next time came around and we placed our order, we reminded them of our missing items and asked for the cost of them be removed from our bill, to which they became angry, asking me to drive down and show them the receipt for the last meal and the missing items. So I did! After much discussion and further atrocious customer service it was agreed that the items would be taken off the bill. When I got home we were shocked to find that not only were there missing mains, they'd forgotten to include the popadoms! So I rang them up and made a complaint and well let's just say the way we were treated was disgusting and never will we spend a pound ever again either in the restaurant or on a take away.

I have never had a bad meal in this lovely Indian restaurant. It is very reasonably-priced with very prompt and attentive service. Their starters are all unusual compared to the onion bhajis and samosas I had encountered in the past: they serve very particular, non-greasy prawn and crab samosas, duck tikka pieces, spinach and paneer kebabs and many more original ones. Their Tandoori mixed grill is permanently in my boyfriend's order, with very tender and well-seasoned meats including lamb, prawn and duck. Personally I can never get enough of their Lamb Palak- it is the juiciest, most tender meat I have ever had in a curry, and the spices are never overpowering. We have taken countless of our friends here and will continue to do so!

From ordering to receiving food took around 30 minutes which considering there were only 3 groups of people in the place isn't good.Quality of curry was good but Naan was very dry and could do with much improvement.Once finished we were given the towels to wipe hands with but when they came out the were cold and not steaming as would expectOverall if just eating curry with no rice or naan OK if not suggest find somewhere else!!!

Love going to Alishan and have done for a good number of years - we often have the same things but the food is always excellent. If you go you must try the onion bhajis which are the best I've ever had!!

At random we chose this restaurant when looking for an Indian restaurant in the town and we were not disappointed. There was a very extensive, reasonably priced menu, including gourmet dishes and the staff were friendly and helpful with our choices. The food was excellent and my own dish - lamb and chicken miloni - was both different and tasty. We would go again and can happily recommend this modern looking restaurant.

Would of never expected such good food / drink from somewhere that was so quiet, really nice curry's and wine! Will return soon. They need to promote their selves more as I would of never gone in unless my family had forced me!

I have been to Alishan on many occasions and found that the restaurant has a common theme. This theme is the fact that they take great care and pride in being as polite and punctual as possible in customer requests. If we ever have a query or request it is always dealt with in an extremely fast manner even during the busy hours. The food is very consistent in its quality of authenticity and taste and the restaurant's environment is very comforting yet still sophisticated after all the years. I highly recommend Alishan as you are treated with great care and they have the best poppadoms as well which is a bonus.

I visited as part of a table of 6. Service good and food great. I would particularly recommend trying the Railway Lamb. My husband ordered it and I stole a couple of mouthfuls. Cannot wait to go back and have the dish all to myself.

Having visited the area for a sporting event, we were looking for a good meal late on a Saturday night. The staff were very helpful with their descriptions and suggestions and the food arrived promptly, well presented and surpassed our expectations. We finished our meal at approx 11.30pm and when I asked if a taxi could be called I was told by the staff that it would be at least 1 1/2 hours. A member of staff asked where were staying and then the owner kindly offered to drive us to our hotel. A generous offer that we are not used to and was very much appreciated.

Friends and I had a takeaway from what used to be an excellent curry house. Took nearly 10 minutes to take the order over the phone (I did ask them to then read it back to me as I wasn't sure they had the order properly), then over an hour for the food to arrive. When it arrived, there were 4 things missing. These arrived 30 minutes later after I phoned and complained. Eventually we started eating. The food was greasy and the Rogan Josh was so spicy it was inedible. I emailed the restaurant to complain the next day, have had no response. Very disappointing - Won't be using themagain.

Only went here as I was going to try another place but this was so handy. Greeted by very friendly staff and nice to see a different menu from the norm. Could not find my regular meal so with the advice of the staff picked a meal for my needs. Again the meal surpassed expectations and I really enjoyed it all round. Price was ok too.Verdict : worth a punt.

The food is good and the menu varied but I have twice been in at lunchtime when they have come over mid meal and said "we are shutting at ....". This ruins the meal and has put me off ever going back again. Dinner is a slightly different story .

The food was late to arrive to our address as they had written down wrong postcode. My husbands salad was sour to go with his main. We never got the 6 popadoms we ordered or naan bread. My chicken pathia disgusting. Awful worst curry we have ever eaten. I rang up to complain to be told next time I would get 30percent off. I said I wouldn't be eating from there again to which I was told that's my choice. Very rude and not caring. In future give your driver a sat nav with correct postcode. She was driving along on her phone map getting very lost. Seeing as there are many other Indian restaurants around this area we will not be using this one again. Expensive too. Perhaps driver are popadoms and nan bread while she was lost and hungry.
