Girls get together wine and a takeaway, but decided to eat in so no washing up ! Had the Sunday deal starter and a main , portions smaller than used to and meat pieces small starter very small but tasty and fresh , helpful staff worked out at £10 each pleasant evening and took our own wine, the meal was mixed starter bit of onion barji bits and tiny pieces of meat , and two chicken masalas, lamb rogan josh and a mixed shashlick all hot and tasty not best I've had but not worst either !

The few staff who were there focus almost exclusively on the takeaway side of things. Service was hilariously slow and distracted. The surroundings are like that of a canteen. The food when it arrived was, however, delicious... Fresh, tasty, good quality meat. I would say if you want to enjoy their food at it's best, order a takeaway and enjoy it in comfort of your own home.

Visited Sun 3rd May, was told a table would be available very soon, after waiting 10 minutes we asked how long before we would get a table, was told about half an hour, we said we would leave only to find the exit door handle broken in half (which is the only fire exit), we had to ask a waiter to open the door, the place shouldn't be open to the public when its a risk to safety.

One was sent back again came back still warm so left it and had to share with others. I was constantly looking for Basil Fawlty and Manuel to enter the room.what a calamity that evening....Will never go back there again.

Went to the Day Raj has a family of 9.we prebooked a table because of the size of our party I am glad we did has the restaurant was busy. The staff were very attentive and the food was tasty and plenty of it. The price was very reasonable with the party having 5 starters , 8 mains and an assortment of sides. Please note that the restaurant doesn't have an alcohol license but you are more than welcome to bring your own (tesco's and Sainsbury's just round corner). I would definitely eat here again.

If you want freshly prepared food in a very relaxed and unhurried little restaurant this is the perfect place for a long evening with friends. Book 24 hours ahead for their cheap meal deal any night and take your own booze which they will be happy to open and serve to you for free. It's like being in your own house but with friendly waiters. Far better than takeaway or ready-meals but no more expensive. The food was all excellent.

We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we went back a second time during our short visit. You also get to bring your own wine with NO corkage fee. Sweet. The food was perfect and they'll make it spicy or mild per your request. Although it has "takeaway" in its title the inside dinning was very nice -- not super classy but not cafe either. We got there early both times and sat at the window table to the right as you enter and it was cozy. As the evening progressed it got busy and I might have felt a little crowded at one of the tables in the middle but not where we were. Enjoy.

Just visited the Raj for my mums birthday. Always been a big fan of Raj despite some quite negative reviews. I ordered the Jalfrezi as I have done on a number of times before. What on earth did they deliver? Bright red, sloppy and full of onions. Oh and 3 cubes of something that resembled chicken. I asked them on two occasions to check with the chef if my dish as actually a Jalfrezi. The staff seemed totally uninterested! Needless to say I'm joining the others in leaving a negative review and have no hesitations in saying that I won't be back!Such a shame.

I went to the now renamed Dilraj last night following a recommendation from a friend. I have a wheat/gluten intolerance so sometimes find food choices a little difficult but most restaurants now tend to be very good offering many different gluten-free options. The Dil however really worried me! After explaining my gluten intolerance to our waiter (owner?) I was a little unnerved when he didn't really know what gluten was and I tried to explain. He assured me none of his dishes had "wheat flour" as they use "normal flour" ... he said even the onion bajis and naan were ok which I'm pretty sure was incorrect!! Anyway I opted for what I thought would be the safer option of a Chicken tandoori starter and chicken balti main course hoping no wheat would be in these. I have to say the food tasted good (probably 4 star) but I'm pretty sure my dishes contained gluten as I have had to take the morning off work! (losing 2 stars for a lack of basic ingredients knowledge!)If you can eat anything you'll be fine here and have a good meal. If you have any food intolerances I would probably suggest going elsewhere!

Went to this restaurant twice over the bank holiday weekend.Really enjoyed our meals. As for comments someone else wrote that it wasnt licensed,to me this is an advantage as you can take your own wine(no corkage charge) There is a Tesco express and a sainsburys within 100 yards. The only complaint i would have that sat on the next table was a right load of dead loud dead heads which resulted in us leaving as soon as we,d finished but that could happen anywhere i suppose.

I ate here while staying in the locality, 1st they have no license so no alcohol.I ordered from the menu, unfortunately I cant say I enjoyed it, I'm afraid every dish tasted the same I couldn't differentiate between the meat, veg or rice. One of the waiters was very irritating by pacing constantly by my table, he wasn't serving , just pacing, irritating. When I left I went to pay and found they don't take any kind of plastic cash only! This was annoying and no way to run a business, I asked why they had not unformed me by either a poster on the door or even a note in the menu, the guy I was trying to pay just looked at me and smiled and said sorry cash only, I said it was unacceptable to tell people after they had eaten to say cash only!, I had just enough cash to cover the bill...then of to the cash machine to replenish the wallet. will never go back far far better places to eat in Knaresborough.

'Pitstop' curry on trip to Scotland - came off the A1 to get away from the service station food and found this curry house. The whole enterprise seems to be based on the food itself, with a minimum of fanfare: not licensed, so soft drinks only unless you bring your own; fairly basic decor, and our table was a bit cramped: they'd squeezed two tables into a window space where there was only really room for one. But if you're happy to accept this, it's all good: fast, friendly service and good food, including a lot of in-house specialist dishes and a vegetarian selection in addition to the usual standard fare. Good value, too: certainly worth our detour off the beaten track. We'd happily return.

I went to the Raj with a group of 5 others a couple of Saturdays ago and for the first time was less than impressed. We booked in advance and arrived on time to find that our booking had not been passed on to the staff on the night, so we had to hover waiting for a table to become available. When one finally did empty and we took our seats, when one of our party asked for a coffee when the waiter asked for our drinks order, she was met with an odd grimace of disapproval from the waiter and the coffee never arrived. Our glasses were dumped on the table, still dripping wet and of varying styles and sizes and other diners were having to fetch their own glasses from the serving area. We then waited for 2 hours for our meal to arrive and when it did it was tepid. One of the dishes, butter chicken had separated into a hard layer of yellow fat on the top and a cold layer of unappetising meat underneath. One waiter in particular was brash and appeared not to want to be there. He persistently dug his elboes into me whilst rudely leaning directly across me to serve people next to me, despite there being plenty of room not to do this.In short, the night was a disaster which is uncharacteristic of the Raj from my previous experiences. It was bad enough for me not to want to give them a second chance. Whilst it was a busy and chaotic evening, it would help if the waiters didn't take this out on their customers.

The Bangla nights are amazing value, book 24 hours in advance and you can get a mixed starter, curry and rice or naan for about £7 per person. Cheaper to eat in than get take out!
