We recently enjoyed a fantastic family roast at the railway and I have got to say it was superb. The roast was delicious, I had the beef and would highly recommend. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Looking forward to our next visit 🥳 thank you Railway

We’ve been here a few times for food and drink, always a very prompt and professional service. We really like the food and atmosphere here and it’s always pretty busy, which is a good sign for an independent pub. No doubt we will be returning in the near future, keep up the good work.

Travelled 200 miles to visit our grandson who has been ill. Took him for a pint only to find all but one tiny table reserved for the quiz. Squeezed around this table, which was fine, only to be told by (presumably) the landlord we had to move. Won't be going again

I came with a large party and 2 of us on my table had food. In both cases the food was quite tasty but very overpriced and poor value for money. My friend had noodles with barely any chicken in them. I paid nearly £9 for 2 tacos. We also had 2 medium glasses of rose for which my friend paid over £16. Too much. The pub is large, with friendly, efficient staff. It used to be reasonably priced but no longer

1. Lime chicken with chili sauce. This burger had a great potential with flavourings but unfortunately it was way, way, way over chili sauce. Could barely taste the lime chicken or the bread with the amount of chili sauce that smothered the top bun. Was also a lack of pickle topping. One tiny 50'p sized pickle slide is not enough for one burger. 2. The veggie burger was quite dry and plain tasting. This one was not only lacking a sauce (it has none, vegan mayo would been great), it was also lacking on the tomato and pickle department. 3. Serving burger and fries in a basket is a questionable move. Putting vinegar on my overcooked chips just meant I was getting it all over the table. Bar staff and service was great, can't complain there. Just things from the kitchen could use some solid improvements if I was to ever go back!!

I used to love coming to this pub but these days it is trying far too hard. We met here with friends for lunch. The first thing that we noticed was that the top of the pub near the kitchen was freezing cold. Not sure why but we all had to wear our coats whilst we were there. Then there is the “fusion” food. So clearly trying to be original but the food didn’t deliver. Not one decent meal between 8 of us. The worst being the tacos and nachos with braised ox cheek. The ox cheek was weird. Cut like ham, sweet somehow and just strange and horrible. Rest of the food just lacked quality; the bao buns chewy and dry, burgers over cooked. This pub needs to get back to basics which made it such a lovely place a few years ago

Went on a Friday night which was very full (to be expected). We ordered food which was good quality, lots of vegan options too. You have to order at the bar even if only ordering food so it can take a while to get to the front of the queue to order as everyone is there to order drinks. Apart from that it was a great evening!

Visited today for Sunday lunch, 4 adults, 2 children. Kids meals fine, 1 veggie main which was good, Pork which was very dry and 2 lambs. Both Lamb meals were really fatty, swimming in gravy, so much so the plates were just a mess of soggy brown Matter, and inedible meat. Yorkshire puddings tasted of old oil, braised red cabbage which was swamped in the brown liquid. Roast potatoes not freshly cooked, and mushy and no green on the plate (but some orange purée) just tasteless, awful and inedible. Manager came to ask how it was, politely shared feedback, he took the plate and quite curtly said I can see some green, pointed to a tiny piece of green cabbage (which was boiled to death and covered in brown liquid) I questioned that’s surely not the vegetable compliment in its entirety. He walked off. He returned shortly afterwards to apologise about the food and his inappropriate response, saying I’d caught him at a bad time. He stated they never get complaints so he was surprised (trip advisor would suggest otherwise) He then offered to refund us for a side dish of cauliflower cheese! (cauliflower with grated cheese on which had been over cooked. No sauce to speak of) and he gave the 2 children an ice cream. Wasn’t about the money for us, but 3 hardly touched meals surely would have warranted a better response. Won’t be returning, overpriced, generic churned out food. On a par with a cheap carvery. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

I went to the railway and ordered fish and chips. When mine came out the fish was pink so sent it back and said was under cooked. The bar staff bought it back out and said it was pink due to being near an artery and was fine.. The fish was a fillet so this was completely untrue and was shocked that they gave it back to me and would not take any responsibility. I said I was worried I would be ill as have stomach problems and they said I would be fine however I has stomach cramps all night and was ill I am really shocked that they were willing to serve under cooked food.

I’d popped into this pub a few times on a Sunday whilst waiting for a train and after the first time I saw someone’s lunch coming out I put this on my “list” of places to try out. The venue is right on the road opposite Portslade train station. There’s LOADS of seating, both inside & outside in there sunny garden. There’s also a little bit tucked around the side for kids to play. They’ve got a great selection of booze! It’s nice to go somewhere that’s not been taken over by one of the big pub groups which have a limited selection, which is sadly mirrored in all of their pubs *snore*The staff were really friendly and the service was speedy! This is SO important as far as I’m concerned as, again with quite a lot of pubs taken over by aforementioned pub groups, the staff are often a bit moody, slow, sometimes rude and basically need to learn what customer service looks like! Now. The food. I’d posted on my Instagram that I was going for a roast at the Railway and LOADS of my followers were telling me how good it was going to be and how I would not be disappointed... if I was scoring out of 10? I’m giving a solid 8. It was really good! Massive portion! The gravy was delicious and (very importantly) the roast potatoes were 10/10! Every other time I’ve SEEN the roast dinners, the Yorkshire puds were like towers. When we went I think we were just a bit unlucky, as they’d not risen and the bottoms were a bit pancakey... still good, but not fluffy enough. The pork option was ham hock. I usually always go for roast pork, unless they’ve run out, then I go down (my own personal) list to lamb (if no lamb, then the veg option, then beef and then chicken as a last option, in case you wanted to know). Ham hock is NOT what I want for a roast. Pork belly with crackling is the ideal. My companion had The Fat Controller, which gave a bit of all of the meat options. I can vouch that the lamb was the best option (in my opinion) and the ham hock was pulled/shredded. Nice, but not for a roast. The chicken was wrapped in smoked bacon. It was juicy and tasty. The beef was pink and delicious and the veggies were delicious! We had a side of broccoli gratin, which was a big portion between two. It was a little bit cold, so the cheese has set, but it was still really good and once I’d piled it on my plate and mixed it into some gravy, I didn’t care that it wasn’t as hot as it could’ve been. Our plates were cleared within 5 minutes of us finishing! A big win! I’m 100% going back to try the other options and hopefully get one of those enormous fluffy Yorkshire pudding I’ve seen.

We were really happy when the Railway reopened as a decent pub after lliving on the borders of Hove / Portslade in a cultural desert for 12 years. I really like the pub and the food but just recently the child friendly attitude has got out of hand and driven us out. I completely understand why families should be allowed in but tonight there were unattended small chidren running in and out of the garden and bar, screaming and out of control at 7pm. Im sorry but this is not an enviornment for small children at this time of night, and it shouldnt be allowed, Bar staff need to be more strict or the rules should be clearer.

We would without hesitation come again. The staff were really friendly and efficient. The only complaint we had was that when the main door was opened it was really draughty and cold. We had our baby grandson with us and had to keep him covered in a blanket.Maybe the pub should consider putting a little inner porch or side panels as everyone that had tables booked near the door asked to be moved elsewhere.

Service disappointing though, at these prices (£13.95 for a lamb dinner and £4.50 for 5 stuffing balls YES £4.50!) you would think at least there would be some table service for taking your food order!! Instead even for our table of 10 it's stand and queue at the bar trying to remember what all 10 want, alla wetherspoons, madness really. This is the email that I sent to the Railway Inn Hi we are just in the door after having lunch at the Railway Inn. I am going to post on trip advisor about our experience. Firstly you have signs saying that children should be supervised at all times we sat outside and had absolutely no peace there were 4 children running around shouting climbing on the tables and barging past me to get into the end carriage of the train that is in the garden. I stopped the kids and was met with cheeky retorts and rude behaviour. I informed a girl staff member she was wearing glasses and had purple / blue hair. She told me she couldn’t ( wouldn’t) do anything as she didn’t know who the parents were. I told her they were the DJ’s kids and she shrugged her shoulders…..! I work in customer service and when a customer has an issue I deal with it in the end I had to go to the parents myself and complain they removed the children from the garden. You have a duty of care to ensure that all the people who come to your pub have an enjoyable experience. Today my family and myself did not have an enjoyable time at your pub. Our children were supervised at all times and behaved themselves impeccably. The food was not that good either the children had the chicken roast kids meal, the chicken was awful so dry they couldn’t eat it. My pork was super salty and very oily the whole dish swimming in grease I couldn’t finish it my husband had the beef which was “alright” but nothing to rave about. Overall experience would be a 2 out of 10 which is down to complacency of staff to deal with customer issues and the food quality not being up to our expectations. Feedback to you today would be to implement your rules about supervision of children and not let parents sit and drink inside whilst their offspring perform gymnastics over the garden furniture. Staff need to be trained to deal with issues affecting your clients enjoyment and last but not least the food quality wasn’t great. I hope that you take this onboard and to be honest we won’t be back I haven’t done this to get a “free meal “ to be honest I cook a much better meal at home and would save us £60+ into the bargain.

Coming from Brighton and Hove, I will stay there next time as there are much better pubs. Nachos were deep fried flour tortillas and incredibly greasy. Guacamole didn't appear to be home made. I had the 'salt and pepper squid' which wasn't nice at all. It didn't taste of salt and pepper and was absolutely covered in batter which tasted old. Squid itself was rubbery. If you want proper salt and pepper squid go to The Urchin in Hove. Husband had a burger which he said was quite nice but the chips were absolutely covered in salt. The kids meals were also covered in salt and when we asked the waitress to give feedback to the chef that they shouldn't put so much (if any) salt on kids food she clearly didn't get our point. Staff were friendly otherwise though.

Went to the Railway for lunch with the family. We were surprised by the smart interior and lovely furnishings and then further surprised by the appetising menu. The food was way above our expectations. We shared a large plate of the nachos, which were probably the best nachos I've ever eaten and I also had the soup of the day which was served with delicious bread. The fish pie was also incredible! Everyone else in our party ordered a burger (they have many variations) and all raved about them! Will definitely be returning soon!

Born & bought up in Portslade and seeing what a grotty pub this was for years I was somewhat sniffy about the recent makeover. It took me a long time to actually get through the door and I wish I had gone sooner.

I went to the Railway Inn last night for dinner and the food was INCREDIBLE! Took quite a while to decide on what to have as the menu all sounded so good but went for a halloumi burger with chips and coleslaw which really was delicious! Will definitely be going again!

Me and my boyfriend visited here last night, it was his third visit and my first. Layout was lovely, food was absolutely amazing and service was great. My boyfriend had the fish pie and I had the Special House Burger and both meals were perfect. I couldn't fault anything at all, we will be returning on a regular basis and recommending to everyone!

Fantastic, tasty meal in perfect surroundings, best dinner we have had in ages. The squid my son had was absolutely delicious and so tender. My husbands steak was cooked exactly as he asked for and the pork belly I chose was fabulous.

We live locally but hadn't been to the Railway Inn before.Very busy, great atmosphere and very good food. Only reason for not giving 5 stars was the very loud DJ - we will definately go back but will probably avoid Friday nights.

What a pleasure to have such a warm and welcoming place to visit for food or simply a drink. The staff can't do enough for you. There is always a wide variety of food on offer which is always cooked fresh. If you want to change any part of a fish that is not a problem.

Popped in to try the 'Breakfast Club' and had the Fat Controller (full English) and it was one of the best I've ever had. Really good quality ingredients (not a 'Value' sausage in sight), all cooked perfectly and great value for money! There are plenty of other breakfast treats on the menu as well as veggie options. Definitely going back!!!

The Platform Room at The Railway Inn was such a fantastic space for our event. We held our wedding day tea time party at The Platform in November 2015 and were absolutely delighted with the room and the Landlady's kind efficiency. The space is brilliant - stylishly decorated, has a super mezzanine floor with some extra tables. In the main area there is a staffed bar and room for buffet tables and standing and some seating for all of us (60 odd guests and a three piece band) plus access to the garden area. The space really does have a great atmosphere and looked wonderful all dressed up and ready to party. We provided the bunting and lights and, thanks to Landlady Zoe's super energy and fab decorating talent, the space looked superb and had just the right atmosphere for our celebrations. Bar staff were friendly and efficient. The catering was fab and Zoe made sure everything ran smoothly and to plan. Zoe is an ultra efficient organiser and couldn't have been more helpful. Thoroughly recommend this lovely space and look forward to holding our next special event there. Why would we go anywhere else!? A very special afternoon.

We were a party of 9 & I apreciate it was very busy but the service was very slow & when the food eventually came it wasn't up to standard. Some of the dishes were too salty with undercooked spinach & undercooked vegetables. The 2 childrens meals ordered were covered in tomato sauce which wasn't requested, I wouldn't bother eating here again.

We turned up fairly late in the evening on the with no pre-booking and in honest truth was not hopeful that we would get any food. But we were pleasantly surprised with the options that they had for a Sunday roast even at 5pm. My self and the misses had the veggie/Vegan options, She had the home made Vegan sausage's, which put to shame all over any store brought we have tried to date( wish I had had these myself!) I had a tofu and walnut terrine. We shared a pumpkin and cauliflower cheessee, oh-ma-jheezzz it was amazing. The staff were friendly from entrance to exit. The beer and wine selection was vast considering it was portslade. Brewdog and other craft beer on tap plus many other crafts in bottles. Then the Deserts I had mince pie tart with ice cream and the lady had baked browine with ice cream. We were far to stuffed at this point but didn't regret making our self's feel like are stomachs were to explode as the desserts were amazing. To be honest I'm starting to salivate now a little thinking about them. So to summarise EAT HERE its not to pricey, beer and wine is good and a fair price, the staff are super friendly and the food is off the hook!!!

We wanted a drink before going for dinner and spotted this sunny terrace overlooking the sea, it did the job with a decent glass of wine.

Went to Brighton for a day out and had a great time at High Tide, We were a family group of 10 adults & children having food and drinks. The staff were courteous and helpful throughout our visit. We had a range of food - starters, fish & chips, burgers & chips. The food was nice and everyone enjoyed their meal. Would definitely recommend trying and would visit again. Thanks again, High Tide...

. ? Agua no lo suficientemente caliente . ? No lo sabemos . .

I hate to say this, but this must’ve been the worst ever experience I’ve had of having hot drinks and a slice of cake while eating out. I ordered a tiramisu hot chocolate and a latte coffee. Both of them should’ve been served in a mug, but were in cups, the drinks were tepid and the taste was very disappointing. The caramel chocolate cake was mediocre, far from what I would’ve expected in a high-end cafe. It was also like sitting in a refrigerator. When I picked up my spoon to stir the drink, the spoon felt ice cold as did we. The staffing levels were very poor, the young man that served us also ended up cleaning tables and taking away items to be washed up. While we were having our drink, he proceeded to put chairs on tables that were immediately behind us. This felt as though we were not welcome. I’m very disappointed in Waitrose, I was expecting way better than this! I don’t feel ever inclined to want to return to this place ever again!
