Great mid way pub on route to town or route back.

EDITED REVIEW as I accidentally put the wrong review on here when it was meant for somewhere else… The Freemasons has a great atmosphere, great staff, great music, lively and buzzy atmosphere… Food is wicked too! The only gripe I have is that the ladies Loos could really be sorted out to be honest as not particularly pleasant l, but I do love this pub :) Chloe is a great bar tender and always makes our night pleasurable. She rocks and runs that bar

Discovered this place recently and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere as well as the mid week prices. While being there with my friends, I was served by a front of house staff named Charlie, who made us feel welcomed and was interested about our student life. Would go again, even though it is a bit out of the way.

I love this pub with all my heart, the bar staff here absolutely make this pub, Unmatched atmosphere. Out of this world service. Lucy, Charlie, Kate and Chloe are super.

Have visited the Freemasons a couple of times with friends and despite being away from student living, we always like to make the trip. Last Friday we were served by (I think) Charlie who had a bubbly personality and was very friendly and was interested in what my friends and I had to say. Drinks are very decently priced for Brighton and the food always looks good from what I can see, we haven’t had any yet. The lovely chilled out vibe is always inviting.

Lou has always served with a smile and a great hard worker in a great hove pub! Good food too 👌

I hadn’t come in here for years but tried it again thinking, well it may have improved. Alas the staff were surly, rude and unhelpful. And inconsiderate of their wage payers. The noise is deafening in there. I had to shout to hear the person two feet away from me. It’s supposed to be a fairly normally busy pub, not a club!? I don’t know if it’s the acoustics or the overly loud music, but it’s so hard to hear people in here. And these are the exact reasons why I stopped coming here years ago. Some things never change. So many nice pubs in Hove, this is one to definitely avoid.

Such a great pub, good vibes always, clean, staff are super attentive, hard working and friendly! Food is 10/10! And the space for any party’s or private events is perfect! Highly recommend 🙌

Hands down the best pub in Hove. The staff are attentive, personable and fun and Joe is the best of the bunch! I will be back continuously for the rest of my life 🫡❤️

Solid sports pub, good local beer options, Eric fried chicken bar food!

We were asked to provide roulette and blackjack table for a private party upstairs. The whole evening was a complete success. The tables fitted nicely in the beautiful upstairs events room. The windows are just stunning. Staff were extremely helpful with both set up and breakdown . The breakdown was definitely made easier with the help of the lovely doorman who let me park outside . Thank you for having us.

Great food and selection of drinks. Loads of gluten free food. Staff were friendly and helpful, except one bad egg, who I'm sure was just having a bad day! There were awesome DJs on the night we went. The football was playing for the first 45 minutes and unless you like aggressive loud men shouting at a TV, I would avoid this experience! They were passionate at least and once that had finished (badly for them it seemed!) L, the atmosphere was chilled and fun.

Had my birthday party there.. food was amazing., staff very friendly and helpful on the day to ensure I had everything I needed.. can’t wait to be back again

Lively pub between Hove and Brighton - busy and good atmosphere with music on a Saturday night.

Rented their function room for my 30th on 28th October and paid a £150 deposit. When I paid this I was told I would get it refunded on the night. On the night I was told I would get it refunded with in 3 working days. We are now nearly 2 weeks out and I have been emailing and ringing everyday with no answer. Apparently the systems have changed recently but that’s not my issue. I paid £150 to rent the space as long as x amount was spent between my guests which it was plus more. I have wasted so much time chasing this and still have not been refunded £150. Now been told to ring back in an hour again. Avoid if you’re planning to use their function room as currently we are getting no where. They just keep telling me we will get it sorted but haven’t.

Really amazing staff. I went here for my friend's 30th birthday. The staff were so accommodating, and always happy to help. They went above and beyond with the food and the service on the day.

Nice pub to have a delicious meal in Hove and not far from Central Brighton. Easy to get to by bus as well as to walk from the city centre. Good food and friendly staff. 5 stars and 10 out of 10. 👍👍👍👍👍

Great atmosphere, very funny comedy night

pub supposedly open till 1pm but the bar guy closes at 12pm. what a zenada. If the internet says until 1pm, what the bartender can order to close at 12pm. all due respect but the pub was full.

Popped in on route to the old market , and was impressed with decor and service, on a busy Thursday as Brighton Newcastle was on ,no waiting to get served,good quality range of beers

Terrific old pub. No food, but great visit !!

Nice place. There was a good DJ when we went. The same drinks order nearly cost a bit more the second time round until querying. Overall a good bar though.

The music playing was so light and happy it put me in a great mood for the rest of the day, such a nice atmosphere and the guy behind the bar was lovely

Staff were friendly, nice vibe to the place. Live music on a Friday which was great 👍. Toilets were clean. And reasonably priced drinks. I would recommend a visit if in the area

When I was told at Small Batch I couldn’t get food at 1431 because it was one minute over..I was annoyed..but annoyance soon turned to joy..as Freemasons had a new Caribbean menu..as someone who lived in Brixton for 15 years my standards are high..not much matches Negril Brixton hill..It was definitely up there..I mean I really don’t write reviews but it really was that good.. The staff are great as well the chef chatted to me, very enjoyable

Went here for a couple of drinks , they charged me twice for a cocktail. I’ve emailed them several times ( not replying to emails) and they said they would refund , two weeks later still waiting . Careful when paying by tapping (if they say payment hasn’t gone through) .

Really great live music. Just stopped in as we were walking by, grabbed a pint of Laine Brewing and was pleasantly surprised when the bands came on. Haven’t been to the Kemptown location, but I imagine it’s good as well. Would definitely recommend!

Hannah was serving me tonight and her customer service was impeccable. Bubbly, friendly and she should definitely get some praise from her managers because I cannot fault the quality of her work. Drinks served perfectly with a smile and she was absolutely gorgeous <3 x

It's alright, great place but food-wise it's not a gastronomic pub, the food you get here is purely street food at a higher price.

Stopped for a drink at 4.30pm and the music was so dreadful and so loud I couldn't wait to finish my drink and leave. Other people seemed to be doing the same. Even the barman who was chatting up some girl at the bar had to shout to be heard. A shame really as it looks like a nice bar.

Not the weird kind of Freemasons with their pyramids with eyes and complicated handshakes, no. The Freemasons kind whereby you nip up the stairs, cosy into a corner, and steal heat, comfort, electricity but not drinks. You buy the drinks, found this out the hard way. Don't make the same mistake as I.

Always been fascinated by the facade of this place, but this is my first time inside. Friendly staff, beer as advertised, food good.

A reasonable main street pub, no cask ale but a number or Laine brews served via keg.

Had a great dinner and couple of drinks here with a couple of mates. We tried a couple of the different burgers, chicken and waffles and a few of the sides. All were so tasty and didn't last too long! Good price for the quality and nice choice of Laine brewery beers too

Second visit and should have left seeing we were the only customers in the pub.. new daytime menu so tried it and wept.. chicken wings drowned in a watery pink sauce Burned pork ends (7 tiny pieces) floating in horrid industrial bbq sauce and stale crackling Chicken tenders consultancy of a bath sponge GROSS Pulled something on chips (the chips was nice) The staff was great Won’t return

Had a great time at the Freemasons Last weekend with some friends, Fantastic range of quality beers on tap and the staff were exceptional. Will definitely be back the next time i am in hove!

Not being local and having to book online is I find never easy, you are always taking a gamble on what the venue will be like. This place is a gem!!! Thankfully. The burgers we ate were wonderful, the barman was a star and the lady who bought our food out to us was so nice. Really couldn’t fault the place well worth a visit.

Great pub, spot of food and drinks selection! To top that all off, Aquaman is behind the bar making the drinks!

Nice pub. Slightly put off when we were told that an area was reserved and we had to move after ordering our drinks and finding a place to sit. There was no signage/information before ordering. Luckily someone left so one table became available.

Quite a nice atmosphere, staff were good food not to my taste and it was cold!!!

The food was excellent but went cold ver quickly as the meal plates were not warmed before food was brought to the table. Think other plates would be more suitable

We went for drinks and where welcomed with nothing but a surly service from the barman who behaved as in charge. We just wanted to spend some money and have a few drinks but this request was met with eye rolls and a dismissive attitude; it was busy but they should be able to handle this ….there’s loads of other places who are happy to take my money so I’d go somewhere else instead

12 of us celebrated a birthday here, they served delicious food 😋 nice cocktails and beer. We spent a good six hours, service was amazing. Waitress and waiters very kind and helpful. Definetly recommended.

Hats of to Amber who was on duty all by her lonesome self but handled it with style and her knowledge of the menu was great and very informative.. that’s the 4 stars.. (always room for improvement ) the meal gets a 3 star The meat was good the bbq sauce rich and delicious The chips hot and crisp The slaw a disgrace.. limp dry and tasteless.. note TASTELESS Why would a chef prep a dry slaw leave it to go warm and wilted and then serve it? Somebody please talk to the person THEY ARE LETTING THE SIDE DOWN.. The slaw was limp and dry and let the whole meal down

Had a quick pint from Laine Brew Co but sadly did not make a note of which one. Had several other beers on tap from same brewery plus others. Food menu looked interesting but we had already eaten.
