Good place to have a pint or two if you're ever in Brighton.

Poor attitude by staff and bad service - there are much better places in Brighton to drink, with a much nicer atmosphere, no wonder there were not many people in there

Got off the train station and the toilets there were broken and shut. Called in to this pub as a matter of urgency, and was flat-out refused the grace. Now I know a pub(lic bar) is not a public toilet, but as an older man, and an intending customer, I was told no, as it was "private property" and I was left thinking how utterly miserable a publican and selfishly mean a staff member. All I can say is that what goes around comes around, and I trust these nasties will get caught short in a very public way. And remember their own attitudes when they are themselves in urgent need.

The atmosphere was happy, nice live music. Still I just didn't really enjoy this pub. The selection of ales and cider was a little bit poor, too much trendy stuff.

Got rejected from the bar because the barmaid asked how much we drank and we said a 4 pack between us (2 people = 1.5 pints each). Unsure why this means we shouldn't be served. Went to the Railway Bell after which is much better and the service is much better

I got refused service for having to repeat myself 3 times because the bartender could not hear me. After not hearing me she asked me how much I had to drink,, I said 1.5 pints, and she refused service. There are many more other better pubs around the train station who are friendly and kind to their patrons

Had my first, second and third pint of the day here, and then was refused service for avoiding eye contact with the lady behind the bar. This person had been short tempered the whole time we were there, served me a soapy pint of cider, and generally made the whole experience unpleasant. She had dark hair with blonde tips and I would like her to know I really struggle with eye contact as it makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I don’t want this review to be confused for her northern colleague, as she was brilliant.

Tried to pop in for a quick pint on my way home from work, thought I'd try and maybe catch the first half of the football. Brighton were playing so I understand the need to ensure that the opposition fans don't enter the pub, but the door staff seem to have no commen sense. Allegedly only people with actual match day tickets are allowed in, meaning they surely shut at 7 when all the patrons leave and go to watch the match? After very politely telling them that I live here, haven't had a drink yet and were wearing no football gear, but my formal work clothes, I was told no as they laughed me away. No wonder it was dead inside, a shame.

Avoid at all costs. The staff is beyond rude and have no understanding of the law. I am in my late 20s, with my 60 year old father and they refused to serve me. The bartender was also incredibly rude, nasty and unwelcoming. Pubs like this are ruining Brighton for everyone. 0 stars if I could.

Went here for a pint with my dad after a long hike. Even though I’m in my late 20s with my 60 year old dad they refused to serve me. The waitress was extremely rude. We are not from Brighton and not white and she treated us like criminals. Kept looking over at our table every 2 minutes while my dad was drinking making me feel extremely uncomfortable. Avoid this place at all costs. They are a bunch of rude, unprofessional bigots with no knowledge of the law or the basics of customer service.

A pleasant pub with a classic atmosphere

Went for a quick drink only I have to leave 19:30 last September 3 I have to work First time we got ask for ID luckily I brought mine but my friend got the work ID That night it gave me booster working of course I drank Vodka, gin previous restaurant and double shot vodka here Lol

25/11/23. A convenient place to step off the street prior to boarding the train. Brighton terminus is literally a few seconds away. Service was prompt and with a smile. Bonus live music from a solo singer/guitarist, made the stay more than a pleasure. On my list of likes and repeat visit.

A lovely pub with a good selection of beer and not too badly priced. I stopped in with a friend for a quick couple of pints and we had a good time with a good vibe.

It's always a pleasure to visit a pub that know how to pour a pint of Guinness properly. We popped in for a drink and had a couple of good drinks in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere before we had to catch our train from the station across the road. There's plenty of other pubs around the station but one didn't have Guinness available and another stunk of fish!

Didn't have any food but the cider was lovely and the music was great

A gang of 7 ex work colleagues were in Brighton for a couple of nights and used the Queens Head as our HQ. We were well looked after my the staff, who kept the bar open late into the night. We did need a few visits to the ATM to replenish the kitty, which became rapidly depleted by the £5+ for pints of Guinness and lager!

Terrible pub, the beer was flat and poor quality. I asked the staff to change my lager as it tasted funny and I wasn’t sure if maybe it was the glass or something. The staff refused and said nobody had complained about that beer on that day. The staff were unnecessarily very rude about it and made me feel uncomfortable. I was completely sober and respectful when asking, I have worked in bars for years and I was shocked at the response.

Lovely old Pub, calm and small...great to have a drink in before you go get the train back home. Coffee was really good and they do take away Pizza's...delivered from a van in the station car park that make these. Good music playing and generally a relaxing old pub. Will always pop in when I pass by now xx Toilets down some stairs.

We popped in here for a prosecco, and crisps. The bar maid clearly didn't want to serve us, or the next customers that came in... they also commented on her demeanour..she didnt smile, and when asked do you sell crisps? Pointed at a sign and said that's our snack menu.... which said "crisps" but didn't give any flavours. The prosecco was nice though! And the pub was cool in the heat.

Disappointing. Recently moved back to the area and menu has lost its edge. Very slow service. Seated upstairs which was gloomy and lacked any ambiance at all, despite lots of free tables downstairs and yes I had a reservation. Lamb from Mixed meat roast was poor - I got the end piece with the stamp on it which was inedible. No one seems to care these days. I’d be heartbroken if that was my business. Won’t be going back.

The location was perfect. The hotel room was huge and clean and modern. Staff were friendly and helpful

Good pub food , our table was close to the bar and drinkers not a problem for us but some would not want to be that close but a really nice pub .

Delicious linguine and very naughty chocolate mousse. We had a really lovely lunch and the staff were excellent, will definitely be back!

Impeccable service would definitely recommend to anyone went for Sunday lunch was pleasantly surprised as a retired chef who is hard to please I was very happy. dessert sticky toffee pudding delicious presentation fab definitely be back when next in the area.

Fantastic food and service. We were seated upstairs in the vaulted dining room which could be amazing but the decor is in cohesive and detracted from the space. You feel a little cheated when you leave the lovely space of downstairs.

Staff food table ambience all perfect! The food is outstanding - better than mayfair fine dining ! The vegetarian curry was sooooo good even if you’re not veggie try the curry - be back asap !

A very good standard of cuisine, certainly much better than most pubs can provide, and beats many restaurants too. The soufflé puddings (passion fruit and a cherry “special” were outstanding as was my starter, devilled chicken liver on brioche bread. The Skate wings main course was delicious and perfectly cooked. Second visit and I’ll return for sure.

Excellent Sunday lunch, very attentive and personable service.

Great range of food on the menu , with daily specials. Staff ultra friendly and helpful and on the button with timing. Easy free parking outside. We regularly dine here , and the last time there were 20 of us , plus young children for a Birthday celebration. Seats about 36 max inside. Great place to eat , never been let down , fully recommend.

Went there last weekend with my family. First time in a long while. Booked up beforehand which is advisable. We all had a starter and main with a bottle of wine. All courses were delicious. I had the bruchetta which was huge! Fortunately we shared it. My main was the seafood pasta. The mussels were delicious and the shrimps tasty however in shell and small. I would still have it again but would prefer to see larger. The wine was very easy to drink. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Nice homely atmosphere...and I wont leave it too long before a return! Overall good value.

We enjoyed a nice pleasant meal here. This is a very tiny establishment, with only four tables if I remember rightly. Our host Giorgio was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our food was enjoyable, as was the ambiance. As everyone states, this is extremely tiny, as is only a deli by day, so probably more suitable to couples, although its difficult to chat privately as obviously being so small everyone can hear what your saying! The food was enjoyable, but in my humble opinion, I am suprised that this restaurant is no.1 in Brighton. I am pleased for the lovely couple who obviously work so hard, that it is number 1, but it did suprise us as we didn't feel it quite deserved the number 1 slot. But this is only "our" personal opinion, so maybe you should try and decide for yourselves :-)

Firstly this is quite difficult to find but well worth it when you get there There are only 6 tables in the restaurant and this helps with the personal effects of the restaurant. The owner is really friendly and calls you by your first name. The food itself is quite tasty and authentic. I had the spinach lasagne and the only downside was it was a bit too much cheese . Well worth a visit tho

Very pleasantly surprised at the standard of food, it`s excellent. The devilled chicken livers were stunningly tasty as was the souffle pudding dish. It retains a lovely English pub ambience really well. I`d be very happy to spend an evening there even if I didn't need to eat. Definitely on my eating out list now.

Went in planning to order a pint. It wasn’t busy and there were at least 3 members of staff behind the bar talking amongst each other. I wasn’t acknowledged after being in there for a few minutes, so just left. There’s plenty more pubs and bars in Brighton!

Friendly staff, proper old pub which we love and the food was so good. The scotch egg is just so tasty then the roast dinner was perfect and I managed to squeeze in my favourite pud sticky toffee pudding too! Came out feeling very full up.

Pleasant meal, good service, reasonable value

Extensive menu with very good quality food. We had the salmon, liver & bacon, buttermilk chicken burger and pigs in blankets and all were very tasty. The passion fruit soufflé was exceptional.

We went just before Christmas and as I was saying hello to someone at the bar in a normal tone - some diners on a table by the bar asked me to be quiet in a most rude manner. I had never seen them before and had assumed there were not from the local area and was probably doing their yearly Christmas outing. Apart from the rude diners on a certain table - the food was spectacular and the staff so engaging and friendly. Would whole heartedly recommend it as long as the rude townies are not there !!

Visited on a Cold Wednesday night. The beer was reasonable and the ambience was chilled, the tealights made a nice cosy touch and the music was sutle but audible. Ill be returning soon.

A stunning Sunday roast beef with all the trimmings perfectly cooked, served with style and gratefully received. The Queen’s Head is my benchmark gastro pub. Nothing compares locally. Well done.

This is a nice pub but slightly disappointed with the Pork Belly macaroni cheese side dish below standard I would expect. This is also a small pub downstairs and 2 very loud ladies at the bar disrupted and infringed on our conversation lucky they did not stay for dinner 😁

The food absolutely exceptional. The waiting staff seemed like it was there first day. We weren’t told about the specials board which was upsetting as the day we dined they were serving duck which one of the diners would have ordered.

The two of us called in for Sunday lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, service and the food were both excellent, thank you.

Wonderful pub meal at the Queens Head with exceptional service and huge choice of delicious food I offer. Beer was very well kept and the cosy welcoming decor and traditional layout of the pub a joy to behold after we had walked a keg of the Essex Way. A marvellous experience and an exceptional pub😊
