First impressions; No table cloth! Drab room! Receptionist was also waitress! Tea was served in horrid white chunky cups. Afternoon tea on a chunky tiered plates...tiny scones on top with pre packed clotted cream...not even in a dish. Sandwiches were filled with what tasted like sandwich fillings and cheap ham. There was no finesse....we thought it was a bit like Fawlty Towers....and expected John Cleese to appear! It was great to be with friends who could all laugh at it! Won't be going back for seconds! It wasn't even well presented... We had a knife and had to use our tea spoons to serve jam!

I was expecting to have tea in the orangery .istead we we lead through a series of dab depressing rooms and seated in a grim ,dark and smelly little room in dire need of redecoration . The service was none existant . We we not asked about dietary requirements . We were presented with a selection of very poor quality sandwiches and cakes .. The pots of tea arrived about 30 mins before the sandwiches and we had to ask for fresh tea which was greeted with much tutting . Horrible experience !

Our afternoon tea bore no resemblance to the picture above. Sandwiches were teeny tiny triangles. Grated cheese & pickle, a bit of ham & lettuce, the what I assume was supposed to be egg (probably made with powdered egg as it tasted grainy) on a half triangle of a bap as an open sandwich! It certainly didn’t look very appetising. The scone was very good but the jam which was so solid that it was difficult to spread (a couple of spoonfuls dumped in a dish) accompanied by the thickest cream which was impossible to spread. The ‘cakes’ consisted of a tiny coloured meringue nest, a macaron a chocolate truffle a tiny square of chocolate brownie and another stodgy square of something. It was held in the orangery but there was no hand sanitiser to use anywhere, the tablecloth was stained with tea so we asked for it to be changed and my cup had to be changed twice! When the sullen server brought the third cup, he almost shoved it in my husbands face! I think that he was only capable of carrying one thing at a time as the tea arrived with no milk jug - we had had to ask for the tea and it eventually appeared half way through eating. I counted 5 empty tables which needed clearing and were only done when the next guests arrived. They sat there for ages and when we left they still hadn’t been asked what they would like. He didn’t hang around in the room so if anyone wanted anything they had to go into the hotel. All in all it was not the experience we wanted.

We must have been waiting 15 minutes in reception before anyone spoke to us. We were then shown into the bar and waited again for the person in charge of Afternoon Teas. I was just thinking of leaving when someone arrived and took us to the tea room. The food was nicely presented and fresh. The service was inattentive. We got a coffee pot but no milk. When we left no-one spoke to us. We felt it was 'only a Groupon voucher' so unimpressed.

Decided to try the Groupon thing out - only because I got a further 20% discount. It was barely worth it. The grounds and frontage are lovely. The reception area is ok. The bar area worn and the orangery wants some major roof repair works and cleaning. You look up there's damp patches holes and plaster bubbling. Furniture in the bar area badly worn, carpets - no comment. So, we were shown to our table. Table linen clean and tidy. Pity the surrounding tables were or had been left with leftovers. Even the breakfast serving table had left over beans still stuck to it - it was 3pm.... The delivery of the cake stand with sandwiches and cakes - it was quite good actually. Fresh. Chilled. Very enjoyable. We had tea coffee and prosecco. Must say the stand alone quality of food and beverage was good I thought. Pity the surroundings are borderline dreadful. Overall the experience was average. I knew it wasn't gong to be fantastic so my expectation level was set perfectly. Given that. I was neither impressed nor disappointed. I would neither recommend nor return for this experience. For what was paid via Groupon, it was worth it. Around £16 for 2 including Prosecco. A final note. The location is gearing up for the annual wedding fayre nonsense. I have to say given the interior condition it would be the last place Id chose for an event such as that. We were going to ask to see rooms but given the state of the orangery we didn't bother. The staff were reasonably attentive and friendly.

Lovely afternoon tea had in the beautiful conservatory room, murals on the wall and just great food, staff were so helpful and attentive. It was a bitterly cold day so the room wasn't the warmest but staff made sure we had plenty of tea to warm us through. Would return, maybe in the summer when that room would be spectacular.

I bought a last minute Living Social deal for my daughters birthday. On arrival the frontage is nice and the receptionist was welcoming. However fast forward to the afternoon tea and it all falls apart. The waiter asked what drinks we would like after being shown to our table. That was the only interaction we had. He plonked our drinks and offerings on the table and there was nothing more until another couple came and he did the same with them. Our table cloth was stained as was my daughter’s cup. The selection we were given were a few triangular sandwiches with a shadow of filling, the only ones with ample filing were the cheese but they were dry and tasteless. Three cakes each - a very nice brownie which was the highlight, a small shop bought macaron and a dry piece of carrot cake - and half a strawberry. The scones were awful!! Mine was crumbly and dry which I thought was bad enough but my daughter’s was actually crispy!!! When cut it split like a biscuit! I would have complained but my daughter didn’t want a fuss. The whole place could do with a good clean, including the waiter’s uniform which was stained. There were dead flies all over the display stands and a big dead bee in the middle of the conservatory which is very visible on a white tiled floor and yet nobody moved it. On the way out we used the toilet in the reception area. It is not a big reception area and yet not the receptionist nor the waiter who served us looked up when we left which I can only guess is because they were both too embarrassed to ask how our visit was as they already knew the answer. Avoid!!!!

Staff look scruffy. The tea was 2 teabags in a stainless steel pot, no choice of teas. The sandwiches were fresh, cakes were fresh although the scone made my teeth feel strange! Jam is out of a jar & placed into a small bowl. No China tea pot or cups & saucers (no personal touch) Cups & saucers were the sort you see in a basic hotel, plates on the cake stand were plain white dinner plates. Paper napkins. Tables around were left with dirty crockery for at least 15 minutes before being cleared. Wouldn’t recommend the afternoon tea & was disappointed at the service bearing in mind the area the hotel is situated

We got married on 14/12/18. We had booked rooms for our bridal party (or so we thought) and then 10 extra rooms for our guests (maximum we could be allocated due to the season) well in advance of our special day. This was confirmed by the hotel - though with hindsight only the guest allocation was made reference to .. one email that we did receive. From the start of our relationship with this hotel, communication was very poor. After our first visit to discuss when no one was available to discuss, we were to receive a follow up call .. no response until returning 2 weeks later when someone was eventually available to discuss. Phone calls weren’t returned and the same can be said about most emails. My now husband received an email outlining the guest take up (not the full detail of who was attending), he responded by sending the confirmed bridal room sharing allocation only to be told that they only had rooms reserved for the guests and not the bridal party and were now fully booked... the whole idea was obviously to have everyone booked in the same place/a meal in the village had already been booked and had to be cancelled. Nothing could be confirmed about allocation as previous contact was now on maternity leave. The consequences of this for us were huge and very stressful. Fortunately we managed to gain rooms for the bridal party and most guests although the hotel still didn’t respond to rooms booked (so we could ensure the same at the new hotel) and despite cancelling guests were chased for non arrival costs ... they have asked for the manager to call them but we do not believe this happened... in short ... book Burleigh Court who couldn’t do enough to remove any stress with our wedding accommodation.

They kindly accommodated for the vegetarian in our group and made us lovely cheese and cucumber sandwiches and cheese and pickle sandwiches. The scones, tarts & macarons were tasty. Beautifully bright seating area in the summer, and pleasant to take a walk around the garden too. We requested to take the leftovers home for my dad to enjoy- but it's a shame the waiter just dumped it all on one of the tarts, looked a mess, unappealing to eat, and poorly packed scrunched in foil.

After sitting for an hour, we thought we may have been seen to again to make sure everything was okay and to offer alternative tea if needed. However we were not seen to. We decided to give the Quorn Country Hotel a try due to the good value Groupon deal that was on at the time. On arrival the hotel and grounds look pretty nice, we were greeted warmly and shown to an area at the front of the hotel where a number of guests were enjoying afternoon tea. Firstly, a member of staff brought out a selection of teas for us to choose from. The tea arrived s short while afterwards infusing in large kettle like bowl. There was plenty of tea and it was very nice. We requested one 'non red meat' option so had salmon, egg mayo and cheese/onion for one set and ham and mustard, salmon and egg for other. All the sandwiches were made with fresh bread and all of them tasted great. The scones were still warm, a little on the small side but tasted great too. We had a selection of 4 'cakes' each - a meringue nest with cream and one blackberry and one raspberry. It was fine, but the nest tasted like a bought one, no crunch followed by a soft middle. We also had a shortbread round which was nice, a lemon cake which was very nice and the highlight, a very moist very chocolately brownie. The staff were all friendly and attentive and overall we were very pleased with our Afternoon Tea. Not the best AT we've had but it's great value and good quality. We'll probably be bak

We had a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea and arrived to be shown into the large but freezing cold conservatory. There were no other tables occupied so they could have offered to seat us in the lounge area which would have been more comfortable. There seemed to be a shortage of staff with only a receptionist and waitress who left the premises halfway through our tea with no one to take over. We were brought a pot of standard tea and one made with instant coffee. Everywhere I've been for afternoon tea there's a choice of different teas on offer. We asked for Earl Grey which came in a chipped, dirty pot and we were served in plastic cups. Very odd. The scones were nice but the clotted cream was stale. The sandwiches were dry and not freshly made and the cakes looked like they were bought from a supermarket value range. Most disappointing as this place can do so much better, the setting is beautiful but the poor quality of the food and non existent service was appalling. It seemed the staff simply didn't care, when we were looking for a member of staff, there was no one around except for a man counting out cash on the front desk. A very disappointing experience.

I took a friend for afternoon tea here for her birthday. Neither of us had been before. Quorn village is lovely, the grounds are gorgeous and for the most part, the bits of the hotel we saw were ok. As other reviewers have said, the hotel is due an updating overhaul.I don't however, agree with other reviews about the afternoon tea because it certainly wasn't our experience - which was excellent.I had telephoned ahead of time to see if anything "birthday-y" could be added. A lovely lady called Heather sorted things out for me and organised "happy birthday" to be written in chocolate, at very late notice! So thanks to Heather and to the chef.We were greeted promptly and shown to our table, our waitress brought the tea selection box and was very attentive throughout. The tea was made in fab glass tea pots. Very quirky!Sandwiches and cakes (plus candles!) arrived promptly and scones soon after. Then the addition of a glass of proseco. Our sandwiches, contrary to other reviews, were superb. Medium beef with home made horse radish, smoked salmon with cream cheese, cheese and pickle, egg and cress. And the scones were beautiful - made with some extra spice which made them quite unique. Would and have recommended it - and there's 2 for 1 during January! Might be back with my mum!

I booked the restaurant at this hotel for lunch at 1 pm a few days before Christmas to take a couple of elderly ladies out for a Christmas treat. When we arrived we were sat down at a table set for afternoon tea (at 1pm?!). The hotel itself is in a pleasant setting & seems comfortable if a little dated. The staff did finally mange to presnet us with some kind of a lunch menu although this consisted largely of bar snacks. When the old ladies asked for a glass of dry sherry however the bar staff looked at us as if we had two heads! Not surpisingly there were no oter customers in the restaurant (for either lunch or afternoon tea!).Thequality fo the food when we eventually got it was also poorly cooked & totally unsuitable for a couple of old dears (we asked for the duck for example to be well cooked as it was for a 96 year old lady & it came bloody!).The staff were however kind & sympathetic although clearly embarrassed by the whole situation. However we wouldn't risk going again - for anything!

We were invited to partake of afternoon tea at the Quorn Country Hotel by a friend who was back briefly from Spain. The sandwiches and cakes were just superb and the glass of Champagne most pleasant. The service was very competent and welcoming but I was surprised that we were not offered any additional hot water, so it was literally just the one cup of tea each - don't know if this is normal or our waiter just forgot us. Great surroundings and a nice place to spend the afternoon.

On arrival, Disabled lift was not working so my mother struggled to get up the steps. The room lacked heating and there was no atmosphere nor ambience. We were not offered a choice of sandwiches and they arrived on a wobbly cakestand. The sandwiches were cut lengthwise so picking them up meant the fillings dropped out and we were presented eith tuna sandwiches plus red Leicester cheese & chutney so they did not look appealing. The scones were warm but were hard and the jam was of poor quality. My mother wented to the disabled toilets and found the 'wet floor warning' stand flat in the middle of the toilet gloor which could be dangerous if not noticed, there was toilet paper left on the toilet floor. When I told the receptionist, she giggled but sorted it out but there was no apology. The waiter did what he had to do but was not engaging. I would have paid £6.50 each for this, it is not worth £43 for 2. No way will I return

We went with friends for Sunday lunch and enjoyed it. The hotel itself has a quite large reception area and public rooms which have that old world charm to them. The dining area is in a charming Orangery which provides a lot of light and was not cold even on a bleak March day. The tables are well spaced so diners do not feel too encroached by others. The staff are welcoming, very pleasant and helpful. The food was good, although I would have preferred it to be a little warmer. I would certainly recommend others to try it.

The starters we acceptable, we sent back our main courses twice and gave up sending the third one back, the the second main course was the first one we received but reheated (and was still cold), we had to ask if we could have a dessert. The staff we rude, shouting in public areas, swearing and extremely sloppy. We had to use cutlery off other tables as the staff failed to give us dessert spoons and cutlery for the main course etc...I am utterly appalled and not happy at all.I have received communication from the general matter and the reasons for such an epic failure are being investigated,

This is a very nice location, in a lovely village. We were here for Sunday Lunch. All the staff we encountered were efficient, friendly and polite. My ordered starter (Ham Hock and Duck Terrine) arrived quickly, this wasn't the best I've ever had, in fact it was quite dry and grey looking. It was accompanied by pickled baby veg. which were delicious. My main was Loin of Pork, also arrived quickly along with a great big yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables, decent amounts also, and well cooked. The only thing which let it down was the pork, which tasted as if it had been reheated.

We visited this hotel for afternoon tea 17 November. This was a birthday treat for my wife and it is not the sort of thing we are accustomed to doing. There were four in our party and we all found it to be a very pleasant/civilised experience. I was a little put off having read some of the reviews just before going, so in the event it was almost a relief. The sandwiches and cakes were very good. OK, so the scones were a little hard and crumbly, but still perfectly edible and went down well with the generous helping of cream and jam provided. The setting in the orangery was very nice, being well decorated and with good views outside. The grounds down to the river are pleasant too and it is worth taking a short stroll. We found the staff to be very polite and attentive.

So I booked this from Groupon thinking this would be lovely for me and my mum to go to and have a catch up as we hadn't done anything in a long time together...when I rang up I specifically mentioned that we r both vegetarian who do not eat any fish either. When we arrived I mentioned again btw we r both vegetarian who Don't eat fish either...sat down on a table that was very small and would have been perfect for 2 cups of teas but not all these other plates they bought put aswell. So the first plate of sandwiches come (that are smaller than even the smallest loaf of bread u can imagine) and they had salmon and tuna fillings. ...WE ARE VEGETARIAN....So we mentioned this to the waitor and I am.not even near joking when I say this, but his boss came.out and gave us 2 more sandwiches 1 had literally just cheese in it and the other had what I can only describe as 1 large tomato straight from the fridge sliced into about 4 pieces wedged in between 2 slices of tiny bread - this to me is not afternoon tea. The whole decor inside etc was very tired and old and could do with a face lift but DEFO need a new chef!!! Would not even bother wasting £1 on this!!!

On 23 October I took my sister for a special birthday afternoon tea. Sandwiches were good and fresh, cakes OK but the scones were rock solid and inedible, so much so that the knife gave up! We complained to the waiter and replacements were served, sadly they were exactly the same.I wrote an email of complaint the next day, receiving an acknowledgement saying that the General Manager would be in touch "in due course"! Unbelievably bad customer service - doesn't sound as though they take complaints at all seriously, does it?To date (nearly three weeks later) I have heard nothing at all. Today I rang the hotel's chain HQ so I hope to hear something soon.My posting on the facebook page has also been ignored - it seems no one monitors it all as there are several other similar comments with no response.

Weekday lunch for two. Was not in the Orangery as promised. Taken by a labyrinthine route to a room overlooking the main road. Food quality was fine, nicely presented, but not large portions. Had soft drinks with meal, but when it came to bill time, a bottle of wine had mysteriously been added in. This was pointed out, and after profuse apologies, a corrected bill was submitted. With very few staff around, the hotel had a feeling of being past its best. Reasonable value for money. Overall - not as poor as some reviewers have indicated, but nothing special about it.

Carrot cake with no flavour, scones were rock hard and inedible....really it was brick like. Best bit was shortbread homemade and lovely. My husband crunched his way through his scone...seriously....the jam was lowest quality that you can get, smooth, no bits type and cream was whipped cream not double or clotted. Served in giant dishes. Tea was ok. Could have done with extra plates to separate cake and sandwich selection...ended up using tuna knife send plate to cut up choc cake. Bakewell also tasteless. I purchased an Amazon 2 for 1 afternoon tea voucher for this hotel. However, I don't think the tea we received was even worth 1/2 price! When we arrived there was no one in reception and we had to wait for 5 minutes before someone appeared. We were then escorted through the bar to the furthest room for our table. A couple were just finishing a meal and the lady complained that her food had been uneatable as they left - this did not bode well! We were now the only customers in the room and were given our glass of Prosecco and a pot of tea and then left for over 30 minutes before a teenage waiter arrived with a tiered plate of sandwiches and cakes mumbling something about ordering salmon sandwiches to which we replied no; he then scurried away and came back with the head waitress who apologised and assured us our tea was on it's way. This arrived 10 minutes later- looking suspiciously like the one that was removed 10 minutes earlier. We were then left alone for another 30 minutes during which we were commenting on the absence of scones, jam and cream. At last the young waiter returned and we questioned whether the tea was supposed to include scones? Again he scurried off to return with the head waitress who said they were very sorry and brought us some jam and cream and extra Prosecco to compensate for our wait, as the scones were still in the oven?? After waiting a further 30 minutes we still had no scones and I went in search of a member of staff. I was amazed to see another room full of people eating afternoon tea with scones. It seems we had been forgotten in our isolation. After requesting the scones they eventually turned up along with the manager who didn't really seem interested in our complaint. If the service hadn't been so bad we would have said the tea was OK, for half price, but believe me none of the cakes would have been acceptable in the Great British Bake Off! We agree with previous reviews that the hotel is tired, of poor décor and with dirty carpets which needed vacuuming. Our advice is avoid this place like the plague!

This has to be the worst afternoon tea ever! We thought we were going to eat in the Orangery but were shown into a lounge where two places were set on a coffee table. The waiter was very polite and bought a pot of tea which was definitely poor quality. The 5 finger sandwiches were acceptable but the "cake" selection was extremely disappointing. There were 3 small squares of dry cake slightly bigger than an Oxo cube, a biscuit each and a scone each with jam and cream. The biscuit was okay but the scone so crunchy that when you tried to cut it, it broke apart. We didn't complain as it was on a Groupon deal (£20 for 2) but it would have been a different story had we paid the full price of £43.

We arrived earlier than our 1.00pm booking at 12.45pm and we were greeted by a 'restaurant manager' with'you are early' !!! At which point I suggested we would take drinks at the bar. Just after 1.00pm he came to take us to our table. The meal started quite well, my friend and I had the warm bacon salad which was very tasty and we believed we were in for a lovely lunch experience. However, that was where the loveliness ended !From that moment on it was a catalogue of disaster and had we been paying the £89.80 for the 4 meals we would have been outraged. However, just because you purchase a Groupon voucher does not give a restaurant carte blanche to treat you any lesser than a full paying party !!! Roast chicken that is so rubbery it cannot be chewedTo have to wait 10 minutes between roast dinners being served and vegetables arriving at the table, ( an extremely small portion for 4 persons)whereby the meat/Yorkshire pudding and potatoes have then gone stone coldTo have to ask 3 times for a gravy boat (other tables had gravy boats) only for it never to appear and to be told by the young waiter ' I kept asking in the kitchen and they told me no they will have to wait'!!! Thereby rendering the meal unfinishable as it was too dry. And..... the piece du resistance - to be served creme anglaise that was split/gone off !!!!We did TRY to take up all of these matters with the 'restaurant manager' but his never may care attitude was also astounding, offering me to 'audit' HIS kitchen when he had seen and smelt the creme anglaise stating 'nothing is out of date', I begged to differ as I do know milk which has gone off when I smell it and also has a fishy taste. This was rather an unpleasant experience for all.

We were given a groupon voucher as a gift and were looking forward to a pleasant Sunday lunch. When we first got there we were asked to take a seat in the lounge which was fine. We were then seated and everything was downhill from there. The starter was not bad but waited far too long for it. Staffing was very much an issue clearly the staff need some training if you have a name of a 4 * hotel you really need to get your staff trained up to give a 4 * service. There was a huge wait from the starter to the main then when it did come out we sat there thinking where are the vegetables they will surely come out soon, we really couldn't wait any longer there were 2 waiting staff on and what looked like a manager that seemed to be doing nothing more than giving orders and looking at correspondence it was very clear that the 2 waiting staff had very little experience in what they were doing. My partner had finished his fish and the vegetables still hadn't arrived I eventually got the attention of what looked like the manager and asked where the vegetables were he apologised and came back with some vegetables about 5 minutes later when my partner has finished his and I had nearly finished mine. There was no gravy that came with the tasteless beef the Yorkshire pudding also had a burnt taste and was cold when the vegetables finely came out there was no taste or flavour to them at all. We were never offered any sauces it was so very poor. Ok so it was a groupon voucher but this shouldn't make any difference and I'm guessing that you are doing the groupon because you are trying to attract more business well some advice whether your the manager or whoever you are speak to your staff with respect and also pull your own wait when you can clearly see that customers have issues talk to one another talk to the chef make sure food is fresh hot and make sure it all goes out together. If you are trying to attract more customers you are certainly not going to get them with that effort!

I purchased a Groupon offer to have lunch at Quorn Country Hotel as I wanted to check the place out for a potential wedding venue. The deal was £22 for 2x two course Sunday lunches with wine (apparently half price), thought it was pretty good value. Sadly, despite being a 4 star hotel, I definitely did not experience 4 star food that day. It simply was the worst roast dinner I have ever had. The veg was overcooked and tasteless (the mange tout were various shades of green, suggesting some were re-heated), the slithers of beef were totally dried up, the Yorkshire pudding tasted burnt and there was so little gravy that it had pretty much been absorbed by the dried meat by the time the dish reached us (we asked for more gravy and were presented with brown water). Waiters looked and acted like they hated their jobs, no smile, pretty much chucking our meal onto the table. I would have complained to the manager had I paid full price for this, but for £11 each, I guess I've learned a couple of lessons 1) you get what you pay for 2) never in a million years will I pick this as my wedding venue! Maybe if we paid full price then they would have made more of an effort? Hmm.

Yes we had Amazon vouchers for a Sparkling afternoon tea but that should not be the reason for the poor experience we received. Why were we shown into a darkened cellar type room with awful air conditioning on a wonderful sunny afternoon? Why was the table only part set with no tea spoons and debris on the table cloth? Why did we only get a miniscule amount of cream to serve one when there were 4 of us? Why did we have to ask for the sparkling wine to accompany the tea? Why was the waiter rushing around trying to serve several tables with two younger persons appeared to be doing very little? Our overall experience was very poor and very disappointing. The value 'even with Amazon Local' was well short not that any managing staff at the hotel were interested by asking. We told the head waiter anyway. Money, time and event was wasted for us.

First dined at the Quorn Country in 1994 and have made a number of visits since. Has changed ownership [not for the first time] and based on this visit then standards are being maintained.Used Amazon voucher for Monday lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. At £29.95 excellent value for such good fine dining.Arrived around 12.30 and had exclusive use of the Orangery. Yes, it was a Monday, but very quiet. Looked after by Jamie, who was very attentive. Had starter - blue cheese croutons with a tasty salad and my wife had an excellent vegetable soup. Main equally as good - for me pork belly with red cabbage and steak for my wife [fillet as no rib-eye] served with thrice cooked hand cut chips done to perfection. All washed down by an excellent bottle of Malbec and finished off with a coffee. Introduced to the chef on duty so was able to thank him for producing an excellent lunch. Altogether, an absolutely relaxed experience from start to finish.Key to the future success of the Quorn Country is to maintain the high quality and standards it has built up from the past. We will certainly be making another visit and be more than happy to entertain business clients for lunch / dinner too.
