Queen’s Lane Coffee House in Oxford

Food was sub par for such an establishment for a cafe in central Oxford I’d expect high quality products yet this was far from it. And the service from who I assume to be a manager was plainly rude no other way to put it.

Great coffee, delicious pastries, and really cool historic building, with great ambience. Definitely recommend.

Delicious moussaka and calm environment compared to many other places nearby. Service exceptional and great variety of veggie and vegan options to choose from.

Great food. 3 vegan breakfasts and a falafel wrap all thoroughly enjoyed. Sat oua8de and it was a great vibe. Only tong I'd say is that soyamilk should be free as standard. I understand coconut, oat and almond being more but I don't know anywhere charging extra for soya. For this reason I would likely not get a hot drink from here. Service was friendly.

The service was good, lovely gentlemen with a welcoming and warm attitude. As Chinese, my ultimate compliment to Dessert is "not sweet", which cater to my preference. The chocolate cake here definitely did the wonder and English breakfast tea was light and refreshing. After a day trip at Oxford, this is the place to chill.

If you're looking for a quick drink, definitely do not go here! Service is appalling.

Be wary of the final bill, especially for cakes which don’t have prices. We somehow paid over £20 for a tea, coffee, one slice of cake and a scone. Helpful service though to provide a high chair.

Honestly I cant believe how bad this place was. I feel like I got deceived by their claim to be the oldest coffee house and got caught in a tourist trap. I doubt any locals actually visit. I ordered a ciabatta served with salad and tortilla chips on the side. The salad in question was literally two leaves with no dressing whatsoever and the tortilla chips were stale. For the price, its an absolute joke. The ingredients tasted so cheap, like they couldnt care less about what they were serving... It just feels greedy, like theyre only out to take your money without giving anything decent in return.

Been earing there few times now and it's probably the best English Breakfast around. Atmosphere is excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. Go and try if you're around (and hungry!).

Stopped in for late breakfast. Scrambled eggs were perfect — an easy dish to make poorly, especially when cooking in large amounts.

Very nice service. Our friends wanted to sit nearby the window to take pictures and selfie, the staff was so friendly to help us get the best views. We think the coffee has reasonable prices and good quality.👍 Besides, the staff can even speak some Chinese 🤣 that’s beyond my expectations!!!

Excellent Turkish coffee with Turkish delight. The place is always bustling, but we were able to get a table within two minutes of arriving. Beautiful views from the windows. It was nice and warm inside. Super helpful staff . Be ready to tell them how sweet you would like your Turkish coffee because they prepare it in the back. We asked for just a little sweet and it was perfect. Thank goodness they also brought us some water

Had a vegetable samosa and it was one of the sadder samosas I've had in a while. Less than mediocre Samosa and a slice of cake for £9.90 Ridiculous

I liked the Turkish breakfast (but no parsley in the salad), and ADORED the Greek yoghurt with honey and fruit. Service was very slow, but they were full at the time. Many halal options.

Super love the Turkish meatballs and pita bread. Staff are nice. So lovely to take their seats outside whilst sipping coffee and watching the passers-by.

Best coffee in Oxford and crew is super friendly

It’s the oldest running coffee shop in Europe , established in 1652. The ambience is quite old school and located closed to the centre. The staff is courteous and the vibe laid back. Their Turkish coffee (served with bite sized lokum) is quite good. The honeycomb cheesecake is also quite good. The Bailey’s latte is also a must try.

Im traveling on a budget, which means I eat from Tesco on a park bench most of the time. I need to write a few pages in my notebook and decided to treat myself to a real restaurant today. I sat down at 18:30ish, not knowing it closed at 19:00. I ordered a sandwich and let it cool while I wrote and then watched as everyone at the cafe was being shooed out at 19:00. I scarfed down my sandwich and left. It's a real pity as if I'm paying 4× more for a meal in a restaurant I expect to sit for at least an hour. My feet hurt, and I was hoping to relax. The waiters were nice. The sandwich was normal. They should close the kitchen an hour before closing or at least warn customers coming in that they're closing soon.

Their claim to be the oldest coffee shop in Europe, established in 1654. Awesome restaurant, with a big menu range, great cakes and great smoothies, staff are attentive and friendly, prices are a bit high but worth it in my opinion.

Extremely overpriced! Feel like I’ve been scammed. I was looking for a place to get breakfast and saw they had pain au chocolats sitting on top of the counter. There was no price but I assumed that it couldn’t cost more than £1.50, maybe £2 at a stretch for a pain au chocolat. It was delicious but once I’d finished I checked my banking app and saw it cost £3.55! It wasn’t even a big pain au chocolat, and not very filling so I could’ve done with having more to eat but after spending that much I couldn’t justify paying for any more breakfast. It feels like they have deliberately chosen not to display a price for the pastries as they surely know no one would buy them if they knew how much they were. You could get a cheaper one in Paris! And they must know that most people would reasonably just assume they can’t be more than £2 and not ask the price. I honestly feel like I’ve been scammed. The only positive is that I’ve learned to never buy something without checking the price!

Se went for breakfast and order two sandwiches and one banana bread. After ten minutes only the banana bread arrived. They asked us to wait for the sandwiches and did for almost 30 min having to leave at the end. Staff was rude and uninterested. I would not recommend this place.

Went for full English breakfast on a Sunday morning. Awesome staff - friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere. I have been there a number of times now.

The establishment dates from the 17th century, which is impressive, but on tasting the coffee, I suspect that the water was also from around that time. Seriously undrinkable Americano, and I'm sorry, but it's not that difficult to get it minimally right. The staff were pleasant enough, but I felt ill for the rest of the day - couldn't get rid of the taste. Avoid at all costs. There are plenty of much better places.

Ordered cream cheese, smoked salmon bagel, cake and a coke. Came to an eye watering £17. Bagel was solid (like take-a-tooth-out solid). Really sad as there aren't many cafes at that end of town. Used to love coming here.

Abysmal. Overpriced. Warm cans of drink served with hot to the touch glasses. Food was inedible and no one could tell if they had the right food as it all tasted of vile mayonnaise. One person even had the order pad paper with the order on stuck to the bottom of their wrap and ended up with the ink and print of said paper on their wrap. Service was some of the poorest we have ever known. No one cared when things were pointed out. £50+ for four sandwiches and four cans of drink. Would avoid at all costs

If you want to eat rubbish food then this is the place for you

Good ambience (claims to be the oldest coffee house in continuous operation in UK - since mid 17th Century) Service was good. Gents toilet had no towels or hand-drier (have never encounted that anywhere else!), and one needed a pass code to access them. Tea was OK (it was tea) If it weren't for the ambience and the friendly staff this place would be nothing special

The cake is very dry... This is the worst Black Forest cake I have ever eaten! It tastes like it was made a long time ago... It’s definitely not worth the $4.95.

We ordered food and we were waiting 45 minutes for nothing to arrive. We were in a hurry and had to go after 1 hour and still had to pay for food we did not recieve. Please understand that this wrecked our afternoon!

we were here twice. The service is very friendly and competent. Since we have certain food intolerances, we sought advice and the nice lady who served us went to the kitchen to ask whether the product was really dairy-free. The food was very good twice and the price-performance ratio is excellent. What's exciting is that certain products have a Turkish touch, probably because of the operator. Very good, again at any time.

A coffee house said to be the oldest in Europe. This restaurant opens early at 8 a.m. so you can enjoy meals, including a hearty English breakfast. Clean and friendly.

The cafe itself is not one I would pick, as the decor is rather dated, but we decided to give it a go. The cake I had was delicious, the staff was very helpful and it was overall a lovely break but two cakes and two teas come up to £19, which is overpriced no matter how you look at it.

They do Turkish coffee, wine and dishes too. Very nice place.

Don't bother. Scones were bought-in mass factory-produced ones heated up in the microwave, so were scalding hot. Two scones and not enough cream for half a scone let alone 2 whole ones! Asked for more cream and waitress said I'd have to pay more. When the extra cream came, it was twice the amount I'd received the first time! Bearing mind it was £12 just for the cream tea, it wasn't value for money. When we left they even charged us for the wrong table.

Nice place to visit history wise. In the food and drink sense - soup of the day was leek, although I could have mistaken it for leek flavoured water. The coffee I had was flat white, a great blob of foam on the top, milk too hot to drink and inadequate proposition of frothed milk. Too much heating, not enough air pulled in and beaten smooth. Pricing seems to play off the history element far too much, and doesn't reflect the quality of the food or service

Has to be one of the worst breakfast I have ever had. I had avocado on toast with scrambled egg. The toast had margarine on it I hate margarine so couldn’t eat my toast the avocado was hard, and the eggs I don’t know how they make scrambled eggs, but it was like nothing I’ve tasted before. They were awful. My husband had an omelette with mushroom, the mushroom were tinned mushroom, surely it isn’t too much to ask for fresh produces. The omelette was served on a bed of chips. The only nice thing was the fresh juice. Would I go back definitely not.

Absolute rip off. Toasted baguette, a slice of honeycomb shortbread and a 330ml of coke came to over £13, how on earth you can justify that I have no idea.

Great place. Had a panino: brie, bacon and avacado. Would be better with more avocado and less brie, but quite OK and a good meal. Staff very helpful. It's location is good for timing to catch a bus from the Queen St bus stops.

Excellent cake, ice cream and coffee. Staff very kind to a fractious and tired child, who calmed down and cheered up when shown ALL the ice cream flavours. They could not have been more helpful.

We went in at 5:50pm and the kitchen closed at 6:30pm. But the staffs were so kind and treated us so kindly until we left. They even helped take our pictures and moved the tables and chairs just for the picture 🥹. Love love the place. The fish and chips were so good. The turkish coffee was so good.

No one should go there.! The staff wasn't professional. Even if we said we had allergy about eggs, they didn't put eggs and sujuk separately. They mixed everything as cheese salad tomato on the plate. They mixed our coffee and they didn't bring tap water. Dont beleive them coming from 1654.

Superb food, service and atmosphere. We had lunch in one day and picked up lovely sandwiches for our train journey home. I'm not one for vegan sausage rolls usually but the ones here are superb. Would definitely recommend Queens Lane Coffee.

We specifically visited this cafe as it is the oldest coffee house in Europe, the place was buzzing. we were lucky to get table for two but lot more people who arrived a bit later were not that lucky. I ordered tea and a chocolate cake. It was delicious, loved the presentation , my partner ordered full day English breakfast and he liked it as well , service was good too. I highly recommend this cafe if you in or around Oxford

Claims to be the oldest coffee house in Britain, yet this means little as it is nothing special in terms of food, decor, or service. Bog standard coffee in boring cups with a cheap & tacky interior and bad music. Prices are standard for central Oxford, but you can do much better nearby.

Visited as this was the closest place to a work event. Wanted to try Turkish coffee for the first time and I wasn't disappointed, though glad I took the staff's advice to have sugar in it. Also very much enjoyed the generous serving of porridge with apple and cinnamon. Will definitely visit again.

Nice place to grab a bite and rest. Had their hummus and roasted veg wrap £5.95. It came with fresh veg and chips on the side. Americano large was £3.45. No taxes and service charge. They accept cash and card payment.

This used to be my favourite place to eat when I visited Oxford, but this time didn't even order. They had both doors open, it was cold, we asked them to close one or both and they said they needed fresh air. We walked out and won't be back.

We used to come here every time we came to Oxford - and my friend, who lives near Oxford, came often without me. But we went in to have lunch and both doors were open. We were cold and asked if they could shut the door. No, they need fresh air. We said can we go into the other room? The answer was the door there is open, too, and they couldn't close it because they need fresh air. I have never seen the place so empty before. Whoever took it over is ruining it. We won't be back.

came as a group of 8 touring Oxford for the first time. 4 of us bought coffee and cakes, the others did not buy as they still had drinks from previous shop - we were touring cafes and food spots all day. It was obvious we were together as a group and waitress came and told us off for having another shop’s drinks with us/ We were sitting outside not even inside their shop. I wouldn’t mind if the waitress was nicer but she literally shouted at us instead of saying “sorry guys but we don’t allow outside drinks”

Had a very nice vegan share plate! Good price for a 6-type food selection and everything we’ve picked tasted great (chickpea salad, aubergine dip, hummus, roasted vegetables, dolmas, couscous with side of pita breads included). Recommend to hungry vegans (and everyone) in Oxford! ☺️🤤

Very disappointing place to eat - I ordered a panini and got a toasted baguette. They are completely different. It was supposed to have mozzarella but looked and tasted more like cheddar. One sun dried tomato. The serving staff had no idea what I was talking about when I complained and the manager ignored my complaint. This used to be a favourite place to come when I visited Oxford but I will not be returning.

I accidentally walked into this shop, which was founded in 1654 and is the oldest coffee shop in Europe. Warm and simple, English breakfast tea with milk, the taste of Hong Kong-style milk tea, silky and mellow, classic full English breakfast, large portion, sweet soybeans, bacon tastes different from that in the United States, it seems to taste like Rugao jerky . At the corner, you can see historical buildings and hurried passers-by, and your thoughts switch between the past and the present, and you can enjoy it slowly. Satisfying brunch!

Went in for breakfast with friends and very impressed with food, atmosphere and service. Really recommended.
