We were on a canal boat on a day that was promising rain so we went here for a change of scene and decent food. We got both. Good service and great food. Dog friendly too with water bowls and treats in the bar area. I had the three little pigs burger of the moth. Very tasty 🐷🐷🐷

First time visit, didn't even receive a "Hello" as we arrived at the bar. This and one other round served by we think was the landlady, grey hair, scruffy looking and the fore mentioned lack of how to treat a customer.....very disappointing and should know better on numerous levels. The remainder of the team were "Ok", the young lady working the floor was very pleasant. Overall it's a nice pub to sit outside and the food was good, albeit a bit pricey but understandably these places need to survive. Others mentioned the "No Cash" rule which does really highlight the impression this establishment is not customer focused. Not to cut my nose off to spite my face, I would go back just for the beer garden, food & location close to the canal, but in no rush. One note of concern was that the electrical items I noticed had CE safety labels not signed off or were 2 years out of date.

We visited on a weekday lunchtime, we've not been for years but had heard good reviews from other people. The staff were lovely. We both ordered steak with a sauce and chips, steak was cooked well but it hadn't been left to rest which is a real pet hate of mine, blood from the steak mixes with the sauce and ruins what would have been a lovely lunch. I can't pinpoint what was missing, there was just a lack of atmosphere I'm not sure if it's the layout of the pub or not but it's not somewhere we'd rush back to.

I have used the Queens for many years. The beer has always been spot on , good names and beautifully kept. Food is probably the best in the area, the fish and chips in particular is outstanding. In all the years I have that I have used the Queens the staff have always been well mannered and efficient. There are a few complaints on here that they only take card payments, I personally do not see this as a problem and would strongly recommend you visit this pub.

Stayed here for the weekend and I have to say I was very disappointed. The bedding hadn't been ironed and was very very creased. This is not acceptable!! Was told that the room had been refurbished, the finish was appalling. Shower heads very clogged and need descaling and shower trap dirty and smelly. No dressing table to be able to sit and do hair and makeup. The bed however was comfortable.Had to make our own breakfast and wash up, a big no no for me, wouldn't go back. The positive was that the staff were lovely. Didn't see the owner again after check in.

We arrived via the canal and a group with us who all have additional needs came for lunch. The food and service were divine. A few in the group felt alarmed initially at the prices however we were all very pleased with the food and great portion sizes. Admittedly I was concerned when I saw the Chips that came with my Halloumi Burger as I can be very fussy. They were the best chips I have had in a very long time. Food was tasty and warm. There really isn't anything negative to say. The lady who served us was very patient as we all paid our bills separately. Honestly the food was that good I would especially catch the train just to have it again.

How the mighty have fallen. 1. Does not take cash. Shocking!! 2. Rude staff. Do you want customers, or do you want your staff to be behind the bar on their phones and ignore customers. 3. Shocking hygiene. One moment a member of staff is cleaning the car park with no gloves on her hands. 2 minutes later, she's serving our food. I doubt she washed her hands. 4. Food. Obviously, cutting costs on food. A lovely looking salad was actually on top of a very dry flat bread, so it looked as if you had a good portion of salad err no. Lamb Kofta were dry and overcooked. Paprika chicken again dry. And for the price, the food was extremely disappointing. The garden area is looking extremely unkempt and uncarared for. There are so many wonderful places to eat in Congleton with friendly, attentive staff with good food. We sat outside with the flies and the wasps they all disappeared when our food was served. We won't be returning and will take our cash elsewhere. Where the server doesn't clean the carpark without gloves, then the server's your food.

We visited the Queen’s Head with our two dogs for an evening meal when travelling through Congleton on our narrowboat. Had a warm welcome upon our arrival and treats for the dogs. There was a good selection of well kept ales and an impressive menu, including daily specials. I had the slow cooked chuck steak which was delicious and my husband had the chicken and chorizo burger which he said was very, very nice indeed. Worth noting that the chips were home cooked even though the menu didn’t mention it (which makes a lovely change as it seems to be rare nowadays when we eat out). The staff were friendly and attentive and dogs are welcomed in certain areas of the pub. We were very impressed with our visit to the Queen’s Head and we will definitely visit again next time we’re in the area.

Great food can't fault that at all, but on the service side of things it was very disorganised, it was a bank holiday and the end of eat out to help out but everyone needed to book anyway so I'm sure they would know how many are having food. It took at least 30 minutes to get drinks ordered and I had to get someone to go to the table. In fact for every order I had to go and ask after a very long time waiting for people to turn up and take orders. It's a shame because a bit of organisation and it could be a great place. In most places one server tends to attend to a few tables in the same area so they can keep track of what needs servings next. But not here, we never got served without a long wait and me having to go and ask to be served. We were so frustrated in the end, my smallest child was playing up because everything took so long.We left after being there far to long and very frustrated, it's a shame because the food was great.

We went to the Queen's Head on Bank Holiday Monday so knew it would be busy with drinkers, but as all tables are booked on line due to track and trace we thought it would be a safe place to go for a meal and it was also our first visit there. Unfortunately Covid safety measures seemed to be non-existent. No distance markers in place so people were standing too close to each other waiting to be seated. There were two indoor hand wash stations and a hand sanitizer station but it was not pointed out so goodness knows how many people walked in withput using it. No hand sanitizer in the loos either and no paper towels for hand drying. As we waited to be seated the staff were taking food and drinks outside walking passed us in close proximity which was not ideal. Our table was booked for 6pm, we waited and waited until at 6:30pm my husband had to ask someone to come take our food and drink orders. I beleive that some tables had buzzers to press for service but i dont think these were on indoor tables. Once our order was funally taken the meals were quite quick to come out, we had to wait for cutlery and because my eldest child and I asked for two starters to come as mains only one came, I had to wait for the other, not a problem as it was sorted quite quickly but the server should have checked our order back to us. He was ery apologetic, the rest of my party were happy with their meals. The menu is quite substantial but unfortunately not much for vegetarians and less for vegans on the mains hence starters were ordered as mains instead. We asked for the desert menuas the table was cleared and this was delivered promptly but we had to call a waitress over to take our order which was done at 7:40pm, by 8:20pm they hadn't arrived, unfortunately I had to leave at this time so missed out on rounding off my meal. I hope that now the eat out scheme has ended the staff can be better trained and the service ironed out. As all tables are booked out we shouldn't have been left waiting for half an hour and cerainly shouldn't have had to ask for our order to be taken. Unfortunately we won't be rushing back any time soon.

Love the lazy trout so thought we would give here a try. The food is every bit as good but they really do need to sort the service out. It was very busy due to it being a bank holiday and last day not eat out to help out, so have to give a bit of allowance for that.We waited a long time for both food and drinks, found ourselves pressing the little "service" button multiple times. We were bought the wrong meals at one point, hope they weren't given to the other customers after they were placed down in front of us. Our drinks almost went to another table too.No butter to go on the bread with our soup (asked for it but never came). Also had to ask for steak knives, steaks were a bit over cooked.Social distancing was poor, people milling around who didn't seem to have booked, also with dogs when I am sure I booked a table in the area that doesn't allow them. No hand sanitiser on the table or in the loo, just at the entrance.Really hope they can iron out the problems with service, food was great. Staff were friendly but disorganised...I'll maybe try again on a weekday.

Since this pub was taken over it has sadly gone down hill. Service is mixed, with a high turnover of bar staff, so sometimes ok, sometimes very very poor. It is hard to see who is really in charge, the bar is poorly stocked with things regularly running out. I was left standing at the bar one Saturday night with no explanation for fifteen minutes whilst a barrel was changed. For one of the most expensive pubs in the town it could do a lot better. Come the Queens Head you are spending a lot of money on refurbishment, look to the customers there are other good pubs nearby

Went for lunch with family and it's not easy to please all of us but all food and drink was spot on. Not often you get to say that. Massive proper chips. Real pastry on chicken pie. Huge battered cod with crispy batter. Chunks of battered unprocessed chicken breast for kids chicken nuggets. Seasonal veg all cooked perfectly. Then there's the great selection of real ales all well kept and including a fair number of local breweries. Prices very reasonable for a portion impossible to finish. Very friendly regulars and landlady.

I had no expectations about this pub/restaurant, we just wanted Sunday lunch and this was the nearest place. Nice friendly welcome from waitress and not long to wait for our food to arrive. We all chose the roast beef and the meat was lovely and tender and tasty, the Yorkshire pudding sitting on top was huge and dominated the plate. I found the presentation of the food made it difficult to manage, I prefer to be able to see all the food on my plate instead of all the vegetables being hidden under the slices of meat. I enjoyed everything except the carrots and turnips, which far too underdone, it was like they had just been blanched not cooked. I heard people on another table saying the same. But overall, it was an enjoyable, good value for money Sunday lunch.

Proper and well-cooked pub grub that is a bit above the average. Excellent selection of real ales in this free house that has recently changed hands. Bring your appetite, you will need it. Even staples like kids chicken nuggets are freshly cooked and not out of a freezer. Impressed with the selection of desserts too. Service was excellent from both of the staff. Hope the new owners succeed, they deserve to

I had a starter that included black pudding and a poached egg, brilliant. However it fizzled out after that, my wife had the special, seafood lasagne, although tasty the seafood consisted of one prawn, for £13 a bit less than fishy.

Myself and my partner decided to return to the queens when we found out the old owner had left. The food was lovely, really nice pub grub. Bar staff are great. New owners seem to be in the middle of smartening the place up. Going to try the Sunday dinner next week, heard it’s a good one! My only complaint is... where’s the pool table gone??

Visited to try out new owners. Bar Staff really pleasant and extremely helpful. Blonde haired lady abit miserable really. Sorry to put this but it was true. Food presentation was poor . Some of it was tasty. The gate that leads down to the canal didn't lock at all. So very dangerous for children. Maybe there needs to be a sign on it to say what leads down there. Safety first is a must.

We went for Sunday lunch, meeting up with family who had moored their barge up there. We were delighted by the quality of food and there was plenty of choice, even for me as a vegetarian. No one was disappointed with their meal, apparently the meat was cooked to perfection. We would definitely go back if we didn't live over an hour away.

I visit the pub regularly and honestly have no complaints the food is all homemade and tastes amazing, it is the nicest pub food I have ever had and that’s coming from a fussy eater.

This is a great local pub with good food and beer. Use it or lose it is the motto here. There are plans to change its use and if so a valuable asset will be lost.

Went to the queens head sat 31 March . Ordered chicken fillet which was dry at the edges and the rib eye steak was a ball of fat . To my amazement we only had to wait 10 minutes for our meals . Kitchen staff in and around the pub eating area a lot and looking anything but friendly . If you are going to run a pub restaurant and charge the prices the queens head in frodsham do please do it properly. Poor service poor food . T Stevenson .

The refurbishment of the pub has been very successful. The place is bright and cheerful and welcoming. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the food is great. We had sirloin steak which was very tasty and cooked exactly as we wanted it. Will definitely visit again.

I called in with family on a Tuesday lunchtime, having wanting to try somewhere I’ve never eaten before. Unsurprisingly, it was very quiet when we arrived (12.15), with only a half dozen or so people arriving after we came. The bar person/waitress/serving staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a decent selection of cask beers (a thumbs up for the Black Sheep). The menu was a little confusing; too many things only available on certain days. That said, the food when it arrived was lovely; fresh and tasty. The kids portions were big to say the least. £63 for 2 starters, 4 adult mains, a kids main and drinks was good value. Will definitely come back, and will certainly recommend.

We have visited several times, but not for a few years, and were surprised how much the pub had changed. The focus used to be on the beer, with quite a traditional atmosphere, but this time there was much more emphasis on food and family groups having meals.I think we preferred the previous atmosphere, but there is no arguing with the fact that the pub was full, so this approach is obviously bringing in the business. Food was pretty good pub fare, not cheap, but similar price to most pubs now. Beers still excellent and loved the draught erdinger for the ladies. Friendly bearded chap behind the bar made us feel welcome. The gardens are lovely, and somewhere for the many children to let off steam.Very handy if visiting by narrowboat.

With all the ambience of a canteen on a cross channel ferry, with so much noise, this is not a pleasant experience. I put shoes on for dinner, but that made me overdressed. Should have put some old trainers on. I live and learn. Add in that the food is really quite pricey for what it is, and it would definitely not be the place I would ever choose to eat. But I am staying in the hotel, and have an early start tomorrow. The hotel is very nice, and I will review separately, but it deserves a PROPER restaurant given the heritage of the place. Main course only for me, as work wont expense a £12 starter on top of a £6.50 pint without moaning, and I am out of this ludicrously loud and echoing ‘school dinner hall’ feeling place as soon as possible! Wish I had room service and not bothered.
