Queens Head in Bromley

We went here on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. Lovely and cosy with a decent food menu. The food is homemade which makes such a difference and is worth the wait. They had vegetarian and vegan specials which were very well thought through and not the usual default risotto. The meals come with beautifully cooked vegetables. The sticky toffee pudding with custard is sooooooo good. The staff are friendly and don’t rush you. There is a lot of interesting memorabilia to look as a bonus.

We had the most amazing Valentine’s Day celebration dinner tonight! Nigel and Jackie’s exceptional food and hospitality never fail to impress. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth, from the welcoming atmosphere and log burning fire. As always, they have outdone themselves once again. It’s always a bonus that they welcome dogs too! Highly recommend for any occasion

Supper club absolutely fabulous

Excellent old pub with a really good selection of ales. Open log fires in both bars. A wide choice of food served by smiling waiters. Small car park to the sid.

Just had a very enjoyable Christmas lunch at this pub. The food, pre ordered for 15 of us, was served timely, well and hot. The carrots even had texture! Extra gravy, sauce and even custard was available and staff very pleasant. The Venison pie was delicious and everyone appeared to have a good time. Good variety of cask ale too!

We arrived at 12 on Sat and had fish options from the speacials menu, everything very nicely cooked and tasty. Prices only slightly north of what you pay in a chain like Harvester. Pace of (charming) service was relaxed which might irritate people in a rush, but really not a problem. Sticky toffee pudding with custard was lovely. Nice ambience with an open fire and a short walk from Down House where Darwin lived and worked.

Nice, relaxed country pub. Ideal for breaking a walk in the area. Food served throughout the day - vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Very welcoming.

Lovely little tea shop attached to the pub. My partner had soup and a sandwich, which he said was delicious. I would recommend this quirky little place, when visiting the village of Downe.

Great village pub with a good choice of drinks and excellent food and service.

We had just been to Christmas Tree Farm and thought we would go in the cafe next to the pub. Cafe was closing and they said if we went in the pub they would provide us with drinks. I have never been in such a dark, dingy pub like this. All the furniture was different and uncomfortable, outside, what can I say. It was just horrible. I would not recommend this pub.

We had coffee, chocolate and cake. The cake was average and not too fresh. The atmosphere was fine but this place could do a lot better with a bit of effort on the pastry.

We really enjoyed our visit here for a spot of lunch after touring Charles Darwin’s Home in Downes, Kent. This pub is oozing history as well, and its bar is aptly named the Darwin Bar after its most famous patron. More importantly, it still has a good local clientele, so not just a tourist-trade spot. We really appreciated the warm welcome of the staff.

The second time I have been here as the stop / turnaround point for a walk with my friends from Petts Wood. The pub has a nice atmosphere but the food and frankly the service is disappointing. I ordered a jacket potato with tuns mayo which turned up cold. Beer is OK which is a saving grace

Sunday lunch with the family. To start with, I will say that the food was great. Plentiful, very tasty and well-priced (mostly). First annoyance- bicycles left on the pavement, four of them abreast. Left a gap of about a foot for pedestrians to get through (parked car). Not the pub's fault, but annoying nonetheless. Second annoyance- I'd booked a table for four a couple of days earlier. On arrival, a gas bottle on a trolley are essentially turning the table into a two. Luckily, we were only three, and were able to squeeze round the side. Don't quite know what they would have done if we'd been four. Third annoyance- the close mechanism on the door from the restaurant to outiside was weak, and loads of people were going in and out, and there was a cold breeze coming in. Lost count of the number of times I or someone from the other tables had to close it. Fourth annoyance- I had the roast lamb. Really nice, but bit short on gravy. I asked for extra, and got it, which was nice. But I was charged £2 for it. For a bit of gravy... The staff were nice enough, but it was very busy. There was a lot of waiting, before we were seated, before our orders were taken, and worst when I was waiting to order a drink an the extra gravy, while my luch was going cold. The beer selection was ok, but if I am honest, not the best kept I have tasted. Won't be rushing back.

After a grotty week we decided to go out for a meal and knowing that The Queens Head in Downe does a Friday Fish Night (at time of writing), opted to visit this pub. Despite it being a World Cup football evening, the restaurant area was quiet and inviting. From the menu I opted for Salt and Pepper Squid, Skate Wing and Sticky Toffee pudding. All arrived promptly and the Squid and Skate were excellent. (So was the pudding but let's concentrate on the fish). I am often reluctant to order Skate having had some dodgy servings in the past (not this venue I should add) but this one was excellent. A good selection of beers available - yes spirits and wine too, but I like cask ales, especially local ales! Recommended and we will return!

Ended up eating a cold steak & chips because I spent 15 mins chasing up basics like cutlery, salt and pepper and sauce. Weirdly defensive reaction from manager when I pointed this out. Have been here a few times and enjoyed it, but this was poor. Pro tip - knocking £2 off the bill when four people have eaten cold food because you’ve messed up the service does not wipe the slate clean. One final comment after the laughable response from the manager - it would be great if you were as speedily attentive to your guests as you are to your social media.

I reviewed this pub 8 months ago on Google, it was sssooo good then but after today I just felt underwhelmed: ( . Wanted to treat my daughter to an afternoon tea but the tea room was Meh (look it up). Menu not great; only fruit scones which didn't look fresh. Not much variety on menu and no mention of cream teas. So nipped into the pub next door, meh again. Bit depressing actually. Same young lady doing both places. We had a cheese Pickle baguette and a bacon brie one. Cheese one was OK but bread not nice and crunchy like previous visit. Bacon in other baguette was very fatty and not cooked enough, should be crisper. Food, atmosphere not good overall and staff need better training to deal with customers although she was polite enough. Could be much better!

Dog-friendly pub but very shabby, food very average and toilet grubby. I was hoping to showcase a rural village pub to an overseas visitor and this was a very disappointing experience...

We visited the tea room which is part of the pub, for takeaway coffee. The lady (who was apparently the owner!?) was quite rude and abrupt after we asked for some extra milk to be put in our drinks. The drinks she made were scalding hot (bearing in mind one of these was a babycino for a child and they were so hot we couldn’t hold them initially). After they had cooled down a little, we realised that they tasted so bad that we actually ended up throwing them away. Such a waste of money and time.

Lovely and enormous Easter Sunday lunch beef roast: 2 thick slices of beef, cooked to perfection and plenty of various vegetables. Followed by home made apple pie and 2 scoops of ice cream Husband had the white chocolate cheese cake. Equally delicious. House wine not bad either. Very attentive and pleasant staff. It is very difficult to park in the village. Own car park. If you live around Bromley the 146 bus takes 15 minutes to get there and it is hourly on Sundays and I think every 30 minutes during the week. We always leave the carat home.Our favourite out of town to go to pub.Bon apetit.

The Staff are best thing about this pub. So, so nice. Thank you to all who served us today. The Harveys Beer they have on tap is super and the tearoom adjoining is a really unique aspect of the pub. Food really nice aswell. We had lunch today and were really well looked after. We didn’t realise there was a car park either which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, a really cute little pub. Can’t wait to go back.

This is a traditional pub in the centre of the Downe village and very well-patronised on a Friday evening. Wooden floors and shabby leather sofas add to the relaxed ambiance. Nice to see a dart board. There’s an excellent selection of beers/ales/lagers and staff are charming. Recommended.

Good pub fare in the village, after visiting Darwin’s house down the road. Outside seating is a bit haphazard but there’s plenty of it. I can’t say I would specifically come back here but as there’s only one other pub in the area, we may well have little choice.

We made a short stop for a snack lunch before visiting Biggin Hill airfield. We both had baguettes, generously filled served with salad and crisps, but there was a further menu with all the usual pub grub. Friendly and welcoming staff offering a good choice of ales and lagers on draught.

Fantastic pub. From start to finish we were treated impeccably. There were 6 of us including my 1 year old granddaughter and nothing was too much trouble. We all had the ploughman’s and not only was it huge but beautifully fresh and very well presented....

Lovely little pub in the countryside. Would usually have a nice roast after a Sunday afternoon walk but we have settled for a takeaway coffee or hot chocolate instead and they always have a little something for the dogs😉.

Lovely food and service but the side room we were in was super cold. A shame as we were hoping to warm up and relax from our cycle ride but instead were rushing to get back on our bikes.

Since the order to close pub's restaurants etc the Queens Head has started to do takeaway food we ordered burgers,fish and chips all was very tasty served hot and even offered delivery, I did collect (with no contact) hopefully the pub will reopen soon but...

Mi marido pidió el cordero que llegó grasoso con verduras duras poco cocidas.No solo la comida estaba por debajo de la media, sino que la única opción de asiento que teníamos para nuestro hijo de 1 año era posiblemente la silla de pelo más repugnante que jamás hayamos encontrado. La mayoría de las sillas altas en lugares públicos no son ideales, siempre traigo toallitas debido a esto. Sin embargo, esta silla alta era absolutamente vil.El personal con el que hablamos era amable, sin embargo, no recomendaría este restaurante debido a la comida y la limpieza en general.

This pub immediately makes you feel like one of the family. The outstanding landlord and landlady employ friendly staff who are happy to serve and make your visit memorable. Miserable bar maid. Felt as if she was doing us a favour. Had real attitude She made it very clear she didn't want to be working that day. Shame, as it's not a bad put and in a good location, but people who work there should make an effort to be pleasant and courteous to their customers at the very least - hence very poor rating. Bank holiday so food wasn't great either.. Not a good experience all round.

Stopped in for a pint and a lunch mid dog walk. There was a good selection of hand pulled ales, the lunch menu was excellent value for very good food. Ploughmans salad chips was cracking! Service was really friendly and helpful too. Very nice indeed...

The big print wallpaper and union jack cushions is a sad example of tacky vandalism of a beautiful traditional building. If you want a living room that looks like that then redecorate your own house, not a beautiful historic pub. Until the management acquire good taste and an appreciation of the concept of genius locii, it doesn't matter to me how well the beer is kept or how good the food is, you are trampling on something older and bigger than you. If you don't trust me on this one then let's check in in a decade and see if anyone is still using that décor.

We ate here early evening. The barmaid was cheerful and welcoming. We started with a jug of Pimms....yum! Well priced at £12. We ate scampi and chips....the best chips ever! and prawn salad. Sadly we didn’t have time for desert as there was an extensive choice. Really great food in a cosy pub.

Downe is an attractive village with a wonderful church and great walking nearby. Haven’t been to the Pub for years so after a pleasant drive decided to visit for a beer and a meal. The pub has various places to eat and also has a small patio area Service was polite and cheerful As I was driving I echose the weakest beer , wish I could remember the name as it was delicious. The menu is standard pub grub but no complaints over that. My partner chose the fish pie while I had the chicken and ham pie. Both were served quickly,were hot and accompanied by a selection of veg. My only complaint is that mine wasn’t a pie but served with a small pastry top. While we waited we read a booklet on the history which made a good read. The pub also does excellent snack meals. All recommended.

We weren't let down by this charming comfortable pub in the heart of the village of Downe, which was highly recommended by friends on our day visit to Darwin's home. Service was friendly, beer was excellent, and the dining room was sumptuously comfortable. I love old pubs where you smell the aroma of a thousand wood burning fires which have welcomed guests for many years. My only disappointment was that the steak and ale pie turned out to be beef stew with a square of puff pastry baked on top, delicious but not a pie baked in a real crust.

El personal es excelente. Atmos - excelente. Especial de Barnsley Chop - excelente, no he tenido uno en años. Las porciones son más que generosas. Hay muchos otros "padres" allí también, ocupados pero sin retrasos en el servicio. Sin mencionar que nos acomodamos: la mesa de al lado tenía un invitado "sin gluten", la camarera que los atiende no podía hacer más para ayudarlos con sus necesidades. Lo recomiendo altamente, definitivamente vendrá de nuevo.

Great pub friendly staff good beer nice food

Almorzamos aquí el domingo pasado. Ambos elegimos la carne asada. Había dos rodajas finas de carne coriácea recocida que comenzaba a curvarse en los bordes. Cuando corté el pudín de Yorkshire, reveló media pulgada de pasta blanca solidificada con el aspecto y la consistencia de la tarta de queso. La zanahoria asada que adornaba el plato necesitaba un cuchillo más afilado que el proporcionado. Los otros vegetales y papas estaban sin sabor. Nunca he escuchado a mi esposa quejarse antes. Normalmente no volvemos, pero esto fue excepcional. El servicio estaba bien y nos dieron un desierto gratuito. Este era un helado de Eton y estaba bien.

We arranged to have Sunday lunch here after visiting Charles Darwins house at Downe. The Sunday roast was delicious, both for vegetarians and meat eaters. The staff were very friendly and helpful, would recommend this pub for families and dog lovers.

Reservamos el comedor separado para 8 adultos, 2 niños y un recién nacido. Un poco apretado, pero la puerta al final se abría al jardín pavimentado para que pudieras salir y dar la vuelta sin que todos tuvieran que levantarse. El personal era muy acogedor y atento a todas nuestras necesidades. El cambio de instalaciones es una necesidad para mejorar esta calificación a 5 y dar la bienvenida a las familias. fue lo único que dejó el pub abajo y ni siquiera pensé en preguntar. La comida era un menú sólido de pub, pero toda la casa estaba caliente, bien presentada y con una buena relación calidad-precio. Todas las solicitudes fueron recordadas y entregadas. Para el servicio, la amabilidad y la relación calidad-precio sin duda volveremos.

Traditional no pretence pub! Very friendly welcome and service. We only had a light lunch but all I can say is that the garlic bread and the pea and ham soup were delicious!

Wonderful pit stop mid our walk from Hayes. Young lady behind bar very welcoming and helpful, food was lovely and the ladies loo spotless. Great to see so many water bowls for dogs both roadside and in pub garden. Will definitely return and heartily recommend. Good variety of meals and at a reasonable price.

Friendly staff cosy pub. Unfortunately the food was a let down. All the beef was the same size all thinly sliced looked like it was warmed up from a bag from Costco. Really bad presentation. Nothing was fresh just kept heated all afternoon. Very dry and tasteless. Such a shame.

Went for the third time yesterday having discovered this gem of a pub in Downe just before Christmas. Good range of beers, very dog friendly- dog bar for all those nice treats/ water for your pooch and owners dog more than happy to be admired and stroked!

A bit of a hidden gem for breakfast, coffee and cake. Well regarded as a pub for good ales and hearty lunches, this 2nd time in as many weeks I've stopped off here and it does not dissapoint. Landlord provides warm welcome and was engaging and very attentive. Good coffee, lovely cake and a superb Cumberland sausage (local sourced) sandwhich. I will definitely be coming back again.

About 20 of us descended on the Queens Head after a post Christmas ramble. A warm welcome from the hosts and regulars alike. Remarkably accommodating and a fine lunch of traditional fare. Highly recommended after a walk through the surrounding country or a visit down to Darwin’s house just down the road. We can’t wait to return.

Stopped at this lovely looking pub for a spot of Sunday lunch with some friends, what a gem of a find! Was greeted by the nicest staff and the 3 open fires roaring. Our group had a mixture of roasts, the rib of beef and Yorkshire pudding was the best my husband said he had in a long time. So pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the veg selection as one of our group is a vegan. Great selection of real ale and lagers. The young staff were extra helpful and seemed to really care that we enjoyed our visit here. I highly recommend this friendly village pub and will definitely be returning! One last note the Christmas decorations in the main bar (fairy lights with twigs) made us feel really Christmassy! Well done queens head!

Visited as a group of nine adults and two babies for Sunday lunch. Overall we were happy for the following reasons.

My partner and I stopped at the pub after stroll around high elms. What a beautiful hidden gem!!! We sat by a beautiful open fire while we had the most amazing early Christmas lunch! Staff are very friendly and helpful, dog friendly place and gorgeous food. Couldn’t ask for a better Sunday hideaway!

I visited this pub for the Halloween Party on Friday 27th and had an absolutely blast. It was filled to the rafters with people having fun - some in costume, some not - and everyone was having a great time. There was a great atmosphere with excellent music from the DJ, and the service at the bar was quick and always friendly. I accidentally smashed a glass and it was cleaned up before I could even blink, with not a single cross word. I've been here a number times and will continue coming back. Kepp up the good work!
