The festive pie was fantastic. Go there if you love pies and good service. Also a good old pub vibe. There are good walks nearby too.

This place has the potential to be a nice pub but based on my personal experience, we will sadly not be returning. It was a sunny afternoon and we decided to come to Downe Village for a nice pub lunch. I noticed there were people eating inside and nobody was seated outside. With it being a sunny day, we thought nothing of it and decided to sit in the beer garden. Within minutes of our food arriving, a black fluffy cat jumped onto the table, stuck it's bum in my face and started eating my food! I tried to shoo it off but it wouldn't budge and I'm allergic to cats. When I went inside to tell a member of staff, her response was "it lives in the garden. Just shoo it away." But it never went away so I went back inside again to tell them and it took her forever to do anything about it. By the time she came out, the cat had eaten half of my food. I appreciate there's not a lot they can do but atleast come out and pick up the cat and take it elsewhere if a paying customer complains they're allergic! Not only that, when I got home, I checked my card statement and noticed they had taken 10% service charge which wasn't shown on the receipt (only food and drinks.) I think that's rather cheeky considering there was no table service - we brought our own food, drinks, cutlery and condiments to the garden table and afterwards I even took the dirty dishes back with the cat's leftovers. A very disappointing visit.

I was visiting Down House (home of Charles Darwin) yesterday and popped into this pub for lunch. It proved to be a very positive experience from start to finish! In the first place, I found Denise, who was serving at the bar, to be very pleasant, helpful and accommodating. We ordered our food and I was surprised at how quickly it arrived, yet still was of an excellent standard and presentation. As we were deciding where to sit, my friend mentioned that he didn’t like the high seats too much. Denise heard what he said, and immediately directed us to a different location where there was traditional seating which suited us perfectly. I had a tuna and mayo sandwich which came with delicious salad and the best coleslaw I ever tasted. I love coleslaw at the best of times, but their home-made coleslaw had such a lovely taste and creamy texture, I could easily have eaten a bowl of it myself! I was so impressed with this that I could not contain myself and approached Denise to ask how it was made! Because it was relatively quiet and she was not rushed, Denise went to the kitchen, asked the chef, and returned to convey his reply. Not only that, but the chef himself came out and chatted to me. I was particularly impressed by the fact that he thought it worth his while to come into the bar and help. They both were both pleasant and friendly and this all contributed to a really pleasant day out! I felt compelled to ask Denise for her name so I could give her the credit she deserves! I have taken the liberty of looking at other reviews and am pleased to read that dozens of people feel as I do. I know this may sound a bit paradoxical, but the few negative reviews that have been written also enhance my opinion of this venue. My area of study was psychology, and believe it or not, many criticisms are in fact, indirect compliments in that they are precipitated by jealousy. There are always going to be those who enjoy jeopardizing other people’s businesses for various puerile reasons. Naturally, if a business does not provide a good service, then of course, that, quite rightly, should be mentioned. Nevertheless, when dealing with the public, it takes all sorts, and for this reason, the negative comments, for me, are the exceptions that prove the rule - so to speak. It is impossible to please everyone! If I looked at any business with nothing but five star reviews, I would wonder if many were fake, written by family/friends etc. I would implore anyone who is dissatisfied with a service to speak to the proprietors at the time, thus giving them the opportunity to rectify the matter before leaving a negative review. Then, if no effort is made to sort out the problem, by all means mention it in a review and give the public an honest and accurate account of the place. This advice applies to all establishments, for me, the perfunctory, negative reviews need to be present in order to authenticate the positive ones. I close by saying that I am proud to confirm what the MAJORITY of other customers have already said. I will certainly visit this pub again so you have been warned! Thank you.

Following up from mark wiles review, saying that the cost is made up in 3 parts, one being losing the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, considering we are local and every time we have been there, most of the time you’re closing early due to there not being the demand, so that eliminates that excuse. Secondly saying that the cost of labour and raw materials ultimately results in the quality of the food is ridiculous. Considering the food wasn’t even fresh and had defiantly been store bought and put in the microwave hours before , £240 is insane! Ultimately, the complaint isn’t to do with the selection of the food, it’s the quality of the food. People were spitting their food out because of how bad it was. If your response is going to be regarding the price again, then don’t bother. We ordered sausage rolls and chicken bits, not caviar and lobster!!

Dreadful food for my Mums 80th birthday infact it was embarrassing to be honest. It was as if they had bought someone's left overs out of the fridge and gave us that . No sandwiches ( there were some rolls which were stale) A big random tray of potato salad that was like slop that no one touched . Probably the worst spread I've ever seen in a pub. Would not recommend

Nice pub with tons of history. We all had pies, chicken, beef and Stilton and beef and ale. £22 for a pie and a ginger beer. Pastry was lovely and the filling was a good ratio of meat and gravy. Our last walk of the year on the 30th Dec 2023, resulted in us having a small refreshment stop here. We were warmly welcomed, upon entering this gem of a traditional pub. The menu looked to be a great choice of the usual pub food. I'll note here that there's a large selection of pies. Which included their Festive December Pie. We weren't hungry on this occasion so chose their basket food, which was reasonably priced and arrived quickly. The rest room facilities were clean and tidy, and I'll note the men's was larger than most for this area. A queue for these would be a rare thing I'd say. In summary a cosy atmosphere, and warm unlike many pubs I've visited recently. I am looking forward to another walk in this area, so I can try out the pies of The George and Dragon.

I was very disappointed. It could be a lovely pub, but there was only one person inside and 2 outside. We had been to the Christmas tree farm with the baby. The bar person's were very welcoming and friendly, but unfortunately the food was a letdown. I had sausage mash and garden peas. I didn't like the sausage they were hard and gritty texture. One of the sausages was stale. It had obviously been stored in the fridge and had dried out hard, or it was past its date , it didn't taste nice. The three sausages were all different. The peas were dry and hard. The kids' meal was a frozen chigao town mini pizza, and a few chips cost £5.50 rip-off. I was also given a glass with a chip and a crack in it. I wouldn't recommend the food. I definitely won't be eating in there again...

A cosy oldé pub in a pretty nook of Kent. We originally tried the pub over the road but the wait for food was over an hour. The staff here could not have been more friendly or helpful to accommodate our family of 4. The food was excellent, in particular the proper pies (no pastry lid fakes here!). From start to finish we did not have a good experience at the George and Dragon. If we had read the reviews we would not of bothered wasting our money. The bar lady looked liked she did not want to be there and had a face like thunder. Everything seemed like a chore for her to do. We were planning on ordering food however when we saw what was delivered to a table nearby we quickly changed our minds! Eaves dropping we heard them say how terrible it tasted and was not home made so glad we didn’t! For such a lovely looking pub it was let down by the bar staff and off putting food. The toilets and pub were also very cold and my wife kept her jacket on the whole time we were in there. We would not recommend which is a shame as such a lovely village.

Come here for Sunday lunch not impressed at all, If I could I wouldn’t give any stars, my husband ordered the soup of the day, when it was brought out the bread had mould on it clearly not a 5* food hygiene rating which is advertised on the website. My sons roast dinner was brought out at time of our starters at our request, the vegetables looked like they had been sitting around for all day, the Yorkshire pudding was flat as a pancake. The service was slow, the young waiter couldn’t tell us what the soup of the day was as he was new, the atmosphere was very dull, it was cold inside, there’s more life in a funeral parlour. Went for lunch with my parents, I ordered the duck spring rolls at £5.50, expecting a homemade dish. Instead what arrived were 4 tiny finger buffet spring rolls, about the size of a pinky finger, that had clearly been bought from the local supermarkets frozen aisle and quickly cooked. Along with a side portion of garlic bread, again this was clearly store bought garlic bread slices- I could have made this at home and for a fraction of the price. Fine for a drink but I wouldn’t waste your money or time eating here, you might aswell pop to the supermarket instead, save yourself some money and get a portion that would feed more than a mouse.

No volveré a visitarnos.

Volveremos

Very nice traditional pub. The beer is good and the food is reasonably priced.

The main dining area was so noisy that we left straight after our main course. Couldn't hear friend sitting opposite and my hearing is good. Will only eat in bar area if we go again.

Oh my goodness, what has happened to this fish bar?? Used to go there every Friday before I moved away from Biggin Hill, but what a shock I had last Friday getting fish & chips for my elderly mother. Slow service with miserable faces, very dirty uniforms being worn by the staff, hair not tied back fully on one of the girls serving. Also, a very young boy helping behind the counter, which surely must be a Health & Safety concern with all the boiling fat!!! Safe to say, I won't be returning to Salisbury's Fish Bar, Main Road, Biggin Hill again :0(
