Just been here for Father's day lunch. All I can say is wow. From The moment we entered the bar the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had booked a table but wanted to stand and a a couple of drinks b4 sitting. We ordered our food and it was excellent. All had different starters and we all enjoyed it. The main meals didn't disappoint either. We were so full we couldn't order dessert infact has to leave some of the chips as the rest was very filling(Rare for hubby to leave food on his plate). Would definitely recommend to all and will be going back soon hopefully.

We had our Wedding reception here and just WOW the staff went out of their way to ensure we all had an amazing time. The buffet was delicious, with a great variety of food and options for vegetarians and they accommodated those with dietary needs. From the moment I enquired Dionne was so helpful and went that extra mile to ensure every detail was covered and she, along with her team made the pub look amazing. We really can’t thank them enough for making our day so special.

Throughout the night, we were provided a phenomenal service from all the staff at The Queens Head! We were made to feel very welcome. At the end of the night, the four of us were struggling to get ahold of a cab. Luckily, the landlord offered to drive us all the way to our hotel. We were very grateful, and we will most definitely be going back. 10/10 thank you!

Had a lovely welcome and shown to out seat good size meals,good atmosphere the menu had a good selection of food,a hidden gem.

Again another good roast, will always recomend this pub, as the food is outstanding as well as the staff. Its warm cosy and very welcoming. I will also recomend meals from the specials board as well as the every day menu.

We moved to the area a few months ago, and have previously made several enjoyable visits, as food, drink and staff all first class. We returned recently for Sunday lunch and discovered new owners has taken over. Food was barely edible - roast beef was tough, and could have been used to mend football boots, and the burnt Yorkshire pudding, or hard roast potatoes could have been used as the ball. Veg also tasted "stale" as if kept warm for a long time. Table staff, although pleasant. lacked knowledge of the menu, and didn't know the difference between swede and potato. The (presumably) new owner was less than civil when a complaint was raised and reluctant to offer any money off our bill, although he did relent an give a reduction of £10. All in all, an experience we will never repeat. Sad because it was a place we liked visiting, but never again. This might be a one off but there are many other "food pubs" locally with an understanding of acceptable customer service standards.

Dionne and her team worked hard to ensure that we had a lovely meal. The food was well cooked and plentiful the atmosphere was comfortable and homely and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. We had a lovely lunch and will be definitely going back Jacqui and Alan anderson

We arrived prior to a visit to potters, was made to feel so welcome the moment we arrived. Owner and staff were so considered to our needs with our food and drinks orders, definitely recommend and will be returning

The Queens Head had good reviews so decided to give it a visit. Warm welcome given by the bar person we decided to sit in the large garden as we had the dog with us plenty of benches with sun umbrellas ideal for a warm sunny day. The menu was excellent we decided on Pork tender lion with mash & veg & Steak pie with mash & veg both were cooked to perfection couldn't fault anything. Decided to have desert and chose Blackberry & apple crumble with custard & Lemon meringue pie with ice cream a very good meal & reasonably priced.

This pub is a great pub ,been taken over by new people. I have to say dion and Ian you are doing a great job,the food is is really good and atmosphere is lovely, a very relaxed pub and welcoming. And this means family's as well.

Recently moved to area and have used it on a few occasions. Meals always excellent and service excellent and always get a friendly welcome. Fish and Chips to die for. Set in lovely village and nice back garden with children obstacles.

We visited The Queens Head for a family evening meal on a Friday . The atmosphere and hosts were friendly and welcoming. Drinks when orders turned up quickly.The menu offers a wide range for all tastes including local produce. The service was quick, with good timings between meals with good size portions which are well cooked and presented. The meals were well priced for size and quality. Would recommend and will return.

Very disappointed visit to the queens head in darcy for a family dinner this evening. Table for six booked for six thirty, we were seated at a table away from the main restaurant room and very time the front door was opened we froze. It was twenty minutes until we were asked to order. Servers all two of them were rushed off their feet. Very understaffed!!!! Food was adequate but it took so long to come. Chips were not good unfortunately tasted frozen / oven. We queried why everything was so slow and we’re informed that it was because there were too many bookings close together. Bit of advice don’t book so many people in at once. Desserts were lovely when they eventually arrived. Sadly will not be returning anytime soon.

Recently stumbled upon this cute pub.Was greeted by friendly staff which seated us, I ordered the pork tenderloin with sage mash. Instead of peppercorn sauce u asked for gravy. I finished it all. Was so delicious and reasonably priced. I will 100 percent come again. There is no signal but they give u a WiFi code if u needed it. Parking is outside and quirky little gnomes on the fireplace. Exciting and fresh yet tradition pub.

We popped in here for the first time one evening last week to grab a glass of wine and we received a very nice welcome from the staff and other punters.. there was a quiz night going on and the atmosphere was lovely...

although it only has a small car park and the fact that it was pouring with rain we were made more than wellcome, we had a lovely meal , it's worth waiting for because it's all freshly cooked so it is piping hot

Lovely country pub food was plentiful and tasty. The staff are so friendly. Emma the young lady that served us is so lovely. I had the steak and ale pie chunky chips and side vegetable delicious. My partner had gammon and chips with peas he eat everything with relish. We then shared an Eton mess yummy.

Met our friends here yesterday. Wernt allowed to sit in garden due to work going on, shame as was a nice day and friends had their dog with them. Good was gorgeous, I had rooted vegetable salad with salmon and have to say best salad I've ever had. Someone else in there had ploughmans...wow. only one lady and one gent behind bar so they were busy but waiting time was good and they were very nice and friendly. Deffo go there again.

Had a great lunch a friendly pub and very cosy nice log burner going lovely and warm on a cold day .All the staff are very nice a very nice restaurant rooms with 2 bars.

We decided to pop in for a lunchtime snack with our 2 dogs. What a lovely find. Welcoming locals, log fire burning,lovely pint. We ordered Chile con carne and a pizza. Both dishes were fantastic homemade and well presented. In fact the pizza was the best I’ve ever had. A great find and definitely will be back.

Ate here twice whilst visiting locally in our caravan. What can I say! Great welcome - imaginative standard menu and specials (with small portions of some things available). Good service, lovely atmosphere and well kept (and not overpriced) drinks. What's not to like! would thoroughly recommend!

Been to this pub for a Sunday roast.

Hadn't been here for a few years but the food was great and choice even better than I remember. Had the steak pie, melt in your mouth steak with crisp pastry, Well cooked chips, and a large portion and varied selection of vegetables. My partner had the festive turkey and ham pie smaller size again a good size and the same vegetables. We often order a side dish of seasonal vegetables but that's not necessary here and the waitress pointed it out to us and she was right. They had a good selection on the specials board, thought about the Lamb Hot Pot, they even had Partridge meal as the standard main menue.

Decided to have a cheeky meal tonight in the village pub and wow what a pleasure. From beginning to end. We were greeted warmly and the staff were exceptional. However, top spot goes to the Chef. The meal was absolutely fabulous. I would go so far to say the best I have had for some time! We will definitely be back

Just returned from The Queens Head after an ample Sunday roast beef meal, plenty of meat and veg, could have done with a splash more gravy that I am sure the waitress would have brought if I had asked. Awesome beef! Bright and cheerful waitresses, clean surroundings, all of the requirements for a good meal. The roast beef was followed by lemon meringue with ice cream (herself had cream) and a cappuccino. Left the restaurant feeling nicely contented and full. A word of warning; Mind your head when using the doorway between the restaurant and the bar, this was actually the first time of using the restaurant without cracking my head!

I had never entered the Queens Head in my lifetime, but based on reviews we booked and Met our two Friends there for a meal . Our opinion was that it was a gorgeous Meal 10 out of 10 is easy but we would give it 100 out of a 100. It was a leap of faith as we relied on the reviews . A good menu and tasty home made food , adequate parking, fair prices, giving Good Value. Try the Home made Soup and Home made Pie of the day , or the Cod and Chips, I finished of my mates Chips cos he couldn't eat it all, they were top quality that's after I had cleared a large portion of Cottage pie , I am such a pig at times, but this Chef knows his or her stuff, no really , go there and find out. You won't be disappointed .

We arrived just before three when last orders are taken. We were told if we go straight in and order quickly we would be accommodated. We were well looked after. Drinks came straight away after giving order as did food. The food was tasty hot and good portion. Staff very friendly. Toilets were exceptionally well looked after and clean.

Visiting on a midweek night but the place still had a good atmosphere. The various areas mean you can sit quietly and chat or in the thick of the action. A basic menu is supplemented by a wide ranging Specials Board. The Barnsley Chop was very good. All dishes served with a great variety of vegetables all well cooked. Vegetarians catered for and the kitchen will adapt a dish if possible e.g. leave chicken out of a dish and cook with vegetable stock. Staff very friendly and obliging. Nobody rushed you and kept an eye on things without being obtrusive. Prices reasonable and the wines on offer by the glass very drinkable. I'm told the beers were well kept!

There are no reserves here; the staff are absolutely lovely, the range of beers good, the food fresh and well cooked, and the ambience is delightful. There is also a secluded kiddy friendly garden. The pub is well frequented by the locals, who all said hello to me, as a stranger too. This is the sort of hostelry that very village should have, and those that are having to close should look to this sort of model to see where they are going wrong.

Good village pub, dog friendly and with large, enclosed garden at the rear. New chef since our last visit, food was good and is now very good! Landlords Richard and Sue are extremely friendly and accommodating making wheelchair access to the garden straightforward.

Omg this pub is totally amazing please open another in Brentwood. Where on a Sunday can you get a full selection of food as well as a Sunday roast and specials on a Sunday! NOT in Brentwood your food is spot on! Door stop sandwich with chips salad garnish and homemade coleslaw your price, quality and the amount you serve on a plate is amazingly outstanding. So wished you was closer. So friendly and welcoming. We will come back to try those specials. Thank you so much.

We also stayed at nearby Crowne Plaza, found this pub by chance, and what a find! The service was very good, staff were very attentive, both in the bar and the restaurant area. The food was excellent, freshly cooked, plenty of choice on the menu and a specials board. We visited just before Easter. The restaurant was bedecked with Easter decorations, nice touch. We ate there both evenings during our stay. Can highly recommend it!

The front bar is pleasant and cozy enough, fine for a couple of drinks after a hard morning polishing the Range Rover. Step through to the dining area tacked on to the back and the atmosphere is similar to the patients canteen at Dignitas, with an age profile to match.

Haven't been here for about eighteen months and during this time they have refurbished mixing the old with the new very well. Good selection of beers plus Sharps and Fullers " London Pride ". Couldn't remember what we ate last time so went for the Liver and bacon...MMMmm lovely. All the menu is reasonably priced and a good selection ( Lamb Shank, Ocean Pie, Pork Loin Ribs) Good food and good prices. All the staff very friendly will return soon for the Sunday roast lunch at £9.50. Didn't try the desserts as it was a late lunch.

We came here 16/07/17 after celebrating the 60th of our sister-in-law the day before.We had eaten here before quite a while ago and just wanted a nice meal to finish the weekend off. We had a table booked for 12.00 (yes I thought that was a bit early but they said they wouldn't be able to fit us in any later), none of us had a big breakfast so that we could eat earlier. We all order the Sunday roast, nice and simple We only had to wait 10mins or so and the first meals came out, with what can only be described as a Burnt lump that was suppose to be the Yorkshire pudding (one of our party was a cook and you can imagine the response), she pointed out it was charred and to remove it, the waitress said she would get a fresh batch put in. When the rest of the meals came out, they too were all charred but not to the extent of the first 2. Obvious to us the chef had burnt the whole batch, and instead of making a fresh lot or just omit it from the menu, they carried on serving them. It was such a pity considering the rest of the food was tasty, but it put a downer on the meal. We had to remind them about the Yorkshire they took away, when it came it was only slightly better, but definiately not fresh. The only other problem we had there, was the midgies that were eating us alive, but being in the countryside, you cant really do anything about that. We all declined puddings

I have just had the most excellent meal here - Ocean Pie followed by Strawberry and Almond tart, washed down with Aspalls cider on tap - served by a delightful waitress, in a lovely restaurant. We did have to wait a while, for which she apologised but it was well worth the wait.

Have visited and eaten at the Queens Head most recently, 20/06/17 but have also been on 2 previous occasions ( whilst staying at hotel complex business / golf. As with most hotels people are a captive audience but " looking for a good place to visit to eat / drink is something we always try to do. This was a fantastic find and less than 5 minutes drive from the hotel. A family run pub, who are genuinely so friendly and will go that extra mile to make sue you r joy your visit there whether it's just for a quiet drink or to eat. The food is absolutely gorgeous, and of a high standard, a very good selection on the menu, together with daily soecials on the board which ar excellent value and quality. A great selection of desserts that again are of an excellent standard to quote my colleague who ate with us " that is the best cheesecake I have ever had" lol I and the others totally agre too.. We can definitely recommend this great venue to people busting the locality and especially for people who may also fancy a great pub instead of staying in a hotel bar / restaurant , we will be definitely visiting again to enjoy the food and drink and the friendly conversation of the family owners ( The Cheeky Boys )

Extremely friendly staff, very helpful in getting my wife through the pub and into the garden in her wheelchair. Lovely secluded garden area where dogs are welcome. Good climbing farm for kids. Particularly impressed as there was a table with movable benches as well as the normal pub garden furniture with fixed seats. This meant my wife could access the table and eat comfortably, unlike many pubs. We had a very nice lunch in very nice surroundings. Pub looked fine inside although we only passed through to get to the garden. We will be using this again!

We paid two visits to this pub last week as we were staying in the area. On our first visit (just the two of us and our spaniel) we were warmly welcomed, enjoyed excellent steak and Lemon chicken,both from the Specials board. Decent food,but the desserts were the start of the show...peach torte and bread and butter pudding were both fantastic. Service was also superb. Locals were friendly - a very pleasant evening. The following day we took our parents to the pub. Our waitress this time was less friendly, but the landlady remembered us and was welcoming. We ordered the beef pie, sausages and mash, fish and chips and a rump steak. Three out of four meals were excellent. Mum's steak, ordered medium rare was very well done. I mentioned this to the landlady who resolved this quickly with another one. Overall, excellent value, good food, friendly service.

We called in here last week. Great pub with excellent dining facilities. Menu [plus blackboard for specials. I had pate with toast ....and what a huge plate I of good food. For main course I had the steak pie with shortcrust pastry. Never have I had a pie with so much meat filling. Thoroughly recommended.

As with so many of our experiences we happened on the Queens Head whilst heading elsewhere.We were impressed by all aspects of this small pub/restaurant and really enjoyed our lunch.

The atmosphere is what you expect from a family run country pub, friendly and cosy, open fire in the main bar. The 'snug' virtually un-changed in 100 years is an experience in itself with some interesting artefacts and tales from the friendly landlord, Richard. The restaurant is always busy, a testament to the good locally sourced home cooked food on offer, portion sizes large, but save room for a choice from their extensive dessert menu! From time to time they have jam nights. In the Summer the garden has a great wooden climbing frame and slide for children, a perfect sun trap for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Driven 50 miles to an open evening in an art gallery, room was stuffed to the gills, we managed to escape and on the way home found this pub, The staff and owners where very welcoming showed us to a table and we made a quick order as the Chief was finishing in 20 minutes, our drinks were brought to the table. The drinking bar was full and all seemed to be having a good time. Our food arrived and mine was very nice. Other members of the table wasn't so keen, but due to our late arrival we could not really fault them.

We were out for a drive and came across the Queens Head. We went in on the off chance of them having a table available for Sunday lunch. Luckily for us they did.The pub is nice and cosy, the staff are extremely friendly and the food is lovely and very reasonably priced.We had a very pleasant lunch and would go back again.

Must have driven by this pub numerous times but on a cold miserable November evening decided to go in for dinner. Dinner is served from 18.00, my partner and I were one of the first to arrive. Pleased we arrived so early because the pub was quickly filling up with hungry diners. A very friendly welcome and I opted for lamb shank which I haven't eaten in ages, absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. I would recommend this warm friendly pub.

Amazing lunch very friendly staff and a lovely comfy resturant. Prawn cocktail to start very nice ribs with salad and steak and a choice of potatoes. We couldnt make room for pudding. A choice of food on the menue and specials board ots a gem of a pub.

We are staying at the crowne plaza just 5 minutes drive from the Queens Head. And Just back from having a meal here, what a fantastic friendly place. The food was really lovely and service was very quick. Our waitress was so friendly even had time for a conversation as we left. Would definately recommend here, we will be back again without a doubt.

We have been staying at the 5 lakes hotel and wanted to find somewhere for a bite to eat in the evening. After looking on tripadvisor we decided to try the Queens Head as it is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel. The landlord and landlady were very friendly. We ordered rump steak which was very good and not expensive. We didn't think there was much atmosphere in the dining room and moved to a table just inside the dining room next to the bar. We enjoyed the food and returned on the following night and again we enjoyed the food this time having scampi and chilli. We certainly would go back again if we go back to the area.

We stumbled across this gem by chance pass ing bus d stopped for lunch, good decision!The pub was spotless, toilets new and spotless.Friendly atmosphere well used by locals and I guess passing trade such as us.A good selection of beers, which all looked well kept (alas I was driving so none for me).Hot meals were being served and looked delicious and generous portions but as we were dining that night opted just for a sandwich. The baguettes we ordered were fresh and tasty and served with a surprisingly good side salad and coleslaw.We would go out of our way if in that area to call again.

I visited with a friend for a quick pub lunch for her birthday. The reception was friendly, although a little slow to acknowledge we were there and the place was very quiet. The menu however was fantastic, lots of home made, a great selection of proper pub grub ie; Ploughmans, fish& chips, as well as a great choice of fish, meat & chicken dishes with a choice for the vegetarians also.The food was generous, lovely, hot and well presented and the service was great, all drinks and orders were at the table unlike so many where you have to get up to order your food and get more drinks.I will be back again.I will be back again.

Been working regularly in Maldon and staying at the five lakes hotel up the road. We visit every time we work in the area as the food, service and price is good. My colleague had the steak on both nights we visited this week and recommend I try one. It was cooked just as I like it. If you have room the deserts are really good. We did have to wait a while for the food (10 mins) as there were a couple of tables of eight people ordering just before us but it was worth the wait. 10/10.

Staff are all really friendly and the pub has a warm welcome to it.The food here is lovely and the portions are generous.Highly recommend for drinks and food.
