Great pub, I've been going for ages. Nat asked me to do a review, she's very friendly and welcoming, attentive to the customers and works very efficiently. Always has a lovely smile and maintains a great atmosphere.

Have been in a few times on a Saturday evening and mainly come in for the live music which has always been varied, good and brought a good atmosphere. Came this weekend with a group of friends and the act was dressed in a football shirt (not professional at all) and continued to sing football songs throughout, the same song 3 times through their set, followed by starting football rows and swearing at customers. Not what you would expect for a night out and wouldn't accept this if I was management, it will only lead to trouble. Won't stay next time if this is the case will leave immediately. What a shame.

Went in at the weekend. Good atmosphere and decent prices, can’t complain. Was asked if I’d leave a review but can’t remember the name of the person who asked me to. Do remember one girl on the bar think her name was Carys she was dead nice and a good laugh. Will come back

I came in last week for drinks with some friends, got served by a lovely girl called Cariss and was very helpful when i asked for a cocktail and brought it with speedy service! Would recommend this place to a friend!

Here on a Thursday night with friends for a drink. One stop-off on an all dayer, and my first time here. It's ok, pretty much what you expect from an Irish bar. It's a big place, traditionally furnished, almost a pub of two halves. This night, at least, one half more sports bar. Tellies on with sound/commentary. The other half, tellies on, no sound, with Irish music playing. It's quite comfy, nice seating, booths, which we had no touble getting as on this occasion it was pretty empty. We had a couple of pints and moved on. As I say, it was ok, but nothing that had me thinking I must come back when next in Southport... Maybe just me, but I feel if you've been in one Irish bar you've pretty much been in them all.

The customer service was outstanding, and was exactly what I was looking for in a pub/restaurant. I was so pleased with the service I received from Trinity. She went above and beyond to help me find the perfect drink and food. All staff was welcoming, smiling and looking professional. Will continue to return to punch tarmeys as never leaves your disappointed especially when live music is on, on Fridays and Saturdays. Everyone needs to get themselves down to enjoy the amazing service and music too.

Definitely my favourite pub in Southport, me and my friends and family come here quite often, and we are never disappointed, everything from the live entertainment to the amazing bar staff, especially Mckenzie who had served us all night, in the most friendly and professional way and was always happy to answer any questions we all had, definitely a credit to the team. Visited Punch Tarmeys this evening with friends and spent several hours there. Can't speak for others in the group but I went to the bar twice. The first time I went I ordered a double baileys, half a cider, 2 small Sauvignon and a small bottle of prosecco and told the bartender to take one for himself. The total amount was £29.70 . We questioned the size of the baileys at the time and was assured it was a double!!..It clearly wasn't! I told the barman to take one for himself...The second time I went to the bar I ordered half a cider and a small bottle of prosecco and again told the bartender to take one for himself. There was another bartender (female) sat at the end of the bar and I noticed her laughing at me as I said this. The bartender rang up the bill for the 2 drinks and it totaled £12.20 he then added £4.80 as a tip bringing the total bill to £17.00.. I asked him was there a manager on duty as I couldn't actually believe someone would actually take £4.80 as a tip...I questioned this and was told, there wasn't a manager and I just took the price of a pint! The customer behind me walked out without buying a drink and told me he was disgusted at what he had just witnessed .. The barman in question told me his name was Jay.... Avoid tipping at all costs... That's just taking the mick!!!... Clearly he takes advantage of customers who he thinks are worse for wear!!....

Another bar I gather owned by the same people who own the Grand and The Bold opposite. This place is livelier and has a late licence at least on Saturdays. I would say this is for the younger genre, it’s quite dark and loud music but sadly the drinks are expensive in here too

Stayed in Southport for two nights went in the bar both nights, on the second night my husband went to the toilet and the bar man was also at the urinal and the dirty man never washed his hands , when my husband followed him out he was then serving drinks ,maybe staff need to be told about basic hygiene, unbelievable really !!!! Other than that actually thought it was a really good place .

All the staff are great but one stands out above all. I have never been made to feel as welcome in any pub/bar in a sea side town Becky is just fantastic, attentive but not intrusive, always ready for a chat if your on your own. I went for 1 day and stayed 4!! says it all.

I recently visited Southport for a few days and spent most evenings in this bar, the manageress who I believe is called Jade couldn’t have been more helpful and polite with regards to local knowledge and I ended up spending far more than intended to. She is a credit to this establishment, and look forward to visiting again soon.

Popular bar that is connected to the Lord street hotel. Has lots of outside tables which is nice overlooking Lord street. Went for drinks with friends but probably shant return as so very expensive

Shout out to Vicky, who is in the right job without question. Beer was nice, but the service was beyond good.

Visited on a late Saturday afternoon. I love a good Irish bar, especially for the Irish music, atmosphere and craic so I was looking forward to this one! Oh how disappointed we were! The only thing Irish about it was the name and the fact it sells Guinness! Needless to say we left after one drink. Polite staff, quick service, drinks a little higher than other places on Lord Street but definitely lacking in atmosphere and craic!

First time visit here and impressed. Great bar, great air conditioning, nice opening windows onto the front which was nice. Loved the outdoor seating area, hope you can keep that! Went back a couple of times, loved it.

Waited outside as table service during pandemic, after 15 mins nobody had acknowledged us (despite bouncer on door) so went inside to try to order, told to take a seat and somebody would come to us, as table service, to which I said we were sat outside waited a further 10 minutes and nobody came to us so we left disappointed and thirsty. The bouncer seemed more interested in chatting to bouncer from the sports bar next door!

Very comfortable surroundings and atmosphere. Very pleasant staff. Even has a seated area outside at the front of the establishment.

Me and my friends came in for a pint, what a lovely atmosphere. Leasha really looked after me and my family ensuring that we had the best experience possible. What a credit to the team! Will definitely be returning very soon

I have visited the Punch Tarmey's Pub in Liverpool which I love but this was my first visit to The Punch Tarmey's Pub in Southport and I must say I was most impressed. Walking ‍♂️ in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, the interior is superb, dark wood features throughout, great decor and furnishings, etched glass,mirrors ,tv's to enjoy the sport, a solid wood serving bar that dominates the main room and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside, a really good pub to chill out in. My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Friday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name, phone number or email address to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands, we had a quick study of their beer range which was good and in the end we both opted to have Salopian Brewery " pale ale " these beers were served in excellent condition, we got a nice positioned table were we just kicked back, chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our pale ale's. My pale ale was outstanding, a rich,full bodied pale ale, hints of toffee, a big hit of hops, a good British pale ale, a real ale style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and for a first time visit to Punch Tarmey's Pub in Southport we were totally impressed. Punch Tarmey's Pub is easy to locate along Court Road ,just off Lord Street.Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, Midday till Midnight. Friday & Saturday, Midday till 3am. Sunday, Midday till Midnight. A great pub,if your in the area most definitely well worth a visit.

Arrived in Southport with the family spending well over £200 on food and drink in the bar on the arrival of our food the female waitress was very abrupt and rude the whole experience was chaos staff complaining behind the bar that they shouldn’t even be serving as they work on reception another member of the group arrived after we had finished eating and was told the kitchen is closed for an hour after that hour tried to order again to be told the kitchen was shut for another hour we all left after planning on staying there. The 2 female staff are in need of some customer service training as they are giving the establishment a bad name won’t be returning!

In a time of so much financial struggle and worry for bar and hotel owners it pains me to have an experience like I had here. For some reason in this bar the staff send you from one bar to the other like they are playing a game of ping pong. Its ridiculous. The pub is amazing the food looks brilliant(not that you can get it) but unfortunately all the staff want to tell you how busy they are and what a terrible day they have had. The thing is its not even nearly busy. You wait for 2 hours for the staff to decide if they can let you eat..thats right the staff. The owners of this place are being robbed by there negative staff. They should not worry about social distancing because even as it is now they couldn't cope with 20% capacity. My kids finally got to eat 2 hours after we arrived but unfortunately it was at another pub. The other people left with us. Absolute shame on you.

Took a registered blind man back to there for the 1st time since lock down. Usually our favourite place to have a drink. Our 1st order went without problem. I try to encouage my friend so suggested he go the bar next. Different barmaid. She ignored him and served someone else first although he had waited patiently for 5 minutes or more. I paid £12 for the round of drinks I ordered he was being asked for a lot more. I then went the bar and informed her of what I had been charged suffice to say he had made mistakes. The bill was rectified to the correct amount. Other customers were told their drinks would be brought to the table he was not offered that facility. Total let down . People with full sight got more help disgrace

Ok if its quiet, can take ages to get served if a few people are in as only one member of staff is serving most of the time, not cheap

Great bar to watch the football. Very comfortable seating. Soft lighting makes it very warm looking. Great drinks selection. Definitely visit again.

Lovely bar and surroundings but do not consider ordering food here. Their kitchen is over the road in the Bold Hotel and a portion of Chips took 35 mins. Beer is massively overpriced too. It’s a shame as the bar itself is great

Called in here tonight (27/07/19) prior to a meal out. Sinead served us and was fantastic. We came back some 3+ hours later after our meal and as we walked in she greeted us and asked if we wanted "the same again" she had remembered our order from hours ago.AMAZING

OK, so I know its not an Irish pub, just Irish based, not really Irish so I don't know how that works. We found the staff to be really helpful, the drinks were priced reasonably and the service good, the toilers were clean, all you can hope for. Thanks for a great night.

A great bar with plenty of atmosphere, range of seating and excellent selection of beers. As you would expect with an Irish name the Guiness was first class.

I wasn't expecting much from the outside but needed to find a place for lunch. The food was excellent. My friends and I all had burgers (mine was Mammy's Breakfast) which were well presented and well stocked with toppings.

This is a very good imitation of a typical bar in Ireland. The atmosphere is excellent. The staff are great. It is suitable if on your own,with someone or with a crowd. Highly recommended.

It is a nice atmosphere for drinking at night, but overly busy. Sometimes they have live acts on which is nice but the music is usually too loud. The drinks are a tad expensive but I still like it in there.

We went here to watch the Liverpool game on a Saturday. By the time the game got going the place was about 1/3 full and very atmospheric. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed, but they sold the best crisps I have ever tasted.

Nothing about this bar is Irish. When I think of an Irish bar the last thing I think of is overpriced drink and blasting out non-Irish music so loud that no one can speak to each other. It’s embarrassing and tacky.

I live very close to the bar and every weekend consists on blasting music. the managers and staff clearly have no interest in trying to come to a solution that suits everyone that live close by. many are affected by this and hopefully something can be resolved asap!

Visited here a few times to give it a fair go but first off ale is ridiculously over priced secondary staff let the business down as they so unfriendly and impolite. The music is country and western at best but generally nothing you have ever heard of. For a greatly decorated pub in a well placed up and coming vibrant area it's always empty and fails to meet expectations

Three of us called in about 8pm the place was quite empty, we ordered something to eat, my friends ordered a beef burger each and I went for the sausage and mash. Because the place was empty we thought that it wouldn't take long in arriving, after repeated enquiries the food turned up 45 minutes later, which I thought strange because nobody else was eating in the place. Never mind, when it did turn up it was it was ok. I was told that the food came from The Bold Hotel, which is across the road, and is also owned by the same person, I don't know if this is correct. The place was now beginning to fill up and an Irish Band started to play, the place was really alive. Apart from the long wait for the food, it was an enjoyable evening.....

used to be a decent place it seems to be losing popularity - last night we ordered 3 G & T's none of us could taste any gin. one of the guys mentioned this to the barman - it is telling he poured another "gin" in immediately without any fuss- we still couldn't taste any Gin. I'd say there was more water than gin in the "gin" We won't be going back. Thinking of going to trading standards it was that bad.......

we ate here only once unfortunately but i had a lovely jacket potatoe with cheese and beans and my husband had gammon which he said was nice,would go here again when in the area and the staff were nice. very clean

Spent the day finding somewhere we wanted to eat. We're glad we held out til we found this place! Comfy seating, finger finger butties to die for and lovely staff. Great music and was relatively quiet considering a match was on! Will return.

First impressions of the pub were very positive ...a nicely decorated and well kept place. However,the hospitality of the bar staff (just one gentleman) left a lot to be desired. A very rude, unfriendly and unhelpful individual. We were going to get food but decided not to as we did not feel at all welcome. A great shame.

Popped into this bar for drink were impressed with the bar itself and the pleasant staff. Drinks were well served and reasonably priced. Selection of real ales and cocktails. We returned the following day for lunch. Meals were very good and reasonably priced. Not a huge menu but a good range from pasta dishes to pizzas and tastiest. We had scamp, sausage and mash and a creamy pasta chicken. All were hot and tasty and at around £6-£7 pound excellent value for money. Bonus they allow dogs inside. They also have outside seating and live music in the summer.

It’s on the sunny side of the street so called in and sat outside. Very quiet considering across the road was busy. Six people outside and two inside. The pizzas they served looked really nice.

Brilliant night was like being in Dublin again. Great beers served at the right temperature great three piece Irish band on singing classics. Great fun night then when band finished eightys music. Really great atmosphere. We will be back.

Called in here when in Southport on a wet and windy day. We had a small dog with us and though not actually specified as a dog freindly pub, the manager had no problem in allowing us in. The atmosphere was good, the staff helpful and the beer good.

Popped in when visiting the area last Sunday. It was quite quiet and had a good choice of beer, e thought e world eat in there too. The food came out quick and was nice but such tiny portions! They were like kids meals, not particularly cheap for the amount of food received, would not eat there again.

Great atmosphere, love the decor and music. Steak was something else! Reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit.

Visited here for lunch,great varied menu and very reasonable prices and very friendly staff.Would have loved a Latte or Cappuccino but they only do instant coffee!! I think if they had a proper coffee machine it would be one of the best places to go for lunch as the food was very nice.

Lovely pub, unfortunately when we arrived the bar was very noisy, also children running around. The owner did ask the parents to keep their children in order for safety reasons but his requests fell on deaf ears. It was a shame as otherwise a nice place, but we decided to move next door to the guest house. Possibly try it on another visit to Southport.

We called in to try the advertised Cruz Campo beer, a favourite of my husbands when on holiday. I ordered a glass of my usual Sauvignon Blanc. Sadly I was informed there was none, on a Saturday night! Disappointed none was sourced from the sister bar over the road at the Bold hotel. After making an alternative choice I was shocked to find I had been served my drink in a plastic wine glass!! I couldn't believe it ! And not a picnic in sight.the bar man looked quite shocked when I asked for a grown ups wine glass. And my husband was non too impressed with the £5.50 pint of Cruz Campo, which hadn't travelled well. And then the music was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation. So many speakers made it hard to find a quietish corner. So we've marked it all down to experience. sadly not our best visit to this bar. Previous ones had been more successful.

This is a lovely Irish Bar. Plenty of atmosphere, great lively music,many Irish folk songs. Good pub food at good prices. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I visited with friends and we had a nice table for the night. Everything was really great. We will certainly be going again,both with same friends and also take some different ones as well. It seems to be the in place to be. I can certainly see why.

Visited with some friends,only football on,asked if they had Irish music -not much to ask from an Irish bar and was told by a very sullen manager that it was on Friday night nothing on Saturday as v busy, most unfriendly an unwelcoming Irish place I’ve been to-go to Liverpool or Ireland!

We had a couple of drinks and ordered some food but why was the food served on what resembled a cricket bat ???? Our order included a portion of chicken goujons and not only did we only get 3 of them they were served in the most ridiculous way - could they not just have arrived on a plate ???? It has certainly put us off ordereing food again as it was way too pretentious

Myself and my wife went to punch tarmeys today because we wanted to watch Ireland play Wales in the six nations in an Irish bar. To my horror all of the television screens were showing a football game between Leicester and Stoke. For god's sake this is Southport. The barman apologised but was not allowed put on the rugby. I will never darken the door of this fake Irish pub again.

We visited here for the first time after hearing about it from The Bold Hotel. Good service and good value for money drinks, Nice atmosphere Décor very interesting - would definitely go back if we visit Southport again.

Visited for a few drinks with family. I loved the candles in the tankards on the tables, all the tables were clean and tidy. The cocktail menus were nicely laid out. The decor is amazing, with lots of quirky things around in cabinets etc. Plenty of TVs to watch sport. The waitress came over with my cocktail to check it was okay, and it was lovely! A good size and average price. Would definitely recommend!

I came to Punch Tarmeys a few weeks ago with a group of friends and we had a ball! The atmosphere was great, a good mixture of music and also plenty of space to sit and rest your feet after all the dancing.

Shocking, no order of service at all. Approx 12:00 midnight, waited over 20 min's, walked out in the end. Assumed it was the head bar maid who seemed to be taking great satisfaction in keeping customers waiting. Concentrated on one area of serving customers. Giving other members of staff who were serving shots "here drink that". Couldn't stand watching her performance any longer.

we have been in Punch Tarmeys a few times this year and each time there has been a great atmosphere, the staff are helpful and the Larger is nice. Im not sure about the food but Im sure if comes from the Bold Hotel Opposite.

Over the past few months I have really enjoyed going into this pub, being from Ireland it was like a little taste of home especially with having the Irish country music playing. The staff were so welcoming and helpful they even played some of the Gaelic football for us which was great. Any weekend night I went in, there was always plenty of people and great entertainment. Overall brilliant pub!! Looking forward to calling in again at Christmas.

Visited Southport and fell in love with this pub. As an older person I was delighted to find myself and other half made so welcome by e young bar staff. Great guys and gals! We had a lovely female singer on the night we visited, brilliant. Plenty of t.v screens for you sports fanatics, and super food supplied from the Bold Hotel opposite in a box a real take away delivered from the hotel to the pub just order from the menu. Will visit again without hesitation when next in Southport. Also, whilst there find out about the boxing connection, and enjoy the atmosphere. Well done everyone. You made an older couple very happy with your courtesy, politeness, and assistance. Magical!

Yo continue the BRILLIANT for a minute. The Staff were So helpful and cheerful. Service was quick, staff were attentive conversing with you as they pass your table. Very a Good choice of Drinks; Beers, Spirits, Cocktails etc.
