The Running Horses in Sefton

I've never noticed this place so thought I'd give it a try as it looked nice and was next to the canal There are alot of disabled parking but if you can't walk far it's about 35 ft to the entrance but it is level so wheelchairs will be fine plus there are lots of spaces . It was table service and Fridays meal deal is fish and chips with a drink £11 which is good. The place is nicely decorated. I ordered the BBQ chicken burger £11.40 and half a moretti £2.65 Meal came out 15 mins later and you do get a good portion of chips with relish and the chicken was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfection !!!!. Really nice burger !!!!! Top 2 chicken burgers ever for me. Ordered a cappuccino £2.35 so the bill was £16.40 which isn't bad. One thing though you can't add a tip to your creditcard so if you want to rip them bring cash. Will definitely come again

THE FOOD WASN'T UP TO STANDARD, VERY DISAPPOINTED..

Visited for a birthday meal after recommendations. Attentive, friendly and welcoming service from the staff. Great selection of food to choose from. Every meal, which for a family of 8, was well presented, full of flavour, great quality and even better value for money especially with the 2 mains deal during the week. Having eaten in other pubs in maghull/lydiate I would rate the meal at the running horses the best out of the all, and would highly recommend a visit! Thankyou to the staff and management for a lovely evening

Absolutely stuffed, had the 5 small plates to share followed by the 2 for £16.50 meals! Delicious food, lots of options, fast friendly service and the footy was on too! Definitely will be back soon. Great value for money.

We called in here on Saturday afternoon. It was very busy outside as weather was good. We eventually got a table. Ordered food. 3 adults 2 kids. Didn’t wait too long. All meals were delicious. Clean plates all round. Kitchen staff deserve a well done 👏 and all waiting on staff. We eat here regularly and my grandkids love the play area. So well done Runnys! We are very lucky to have you on our doorstep!

Sunday lunch was awfull!!and the sausage and mash sausage was raw!!management not intrested more or less we cooked it so we want paying awful food and attitude

We went for our tea in the week and were impressed with the 2 mains for £13. A great offer. Pie and chips were delicious along with a pint of Moretti. Great food and great service.

I came here with my family of 4 after passing it one day and thinking it looks a nice pub. So the next weekend we made a special trip. It wasn’t particularly busy but we were greeted by a not overly friendly barmaid who seated us after telling her we’d like to have lunch. About 5 minutes later she came back and asked us for drink orders. 20 more minutes passed and nobody came to ask for our food order. A family had walked in 10 minutes after us and I saw she was taking their food order, we were ignored. I walked to the bar and decided we would pay for our drinks and leave. This was no easy task either. I was looked at directly by at least 3 staff members but ignored. After a good few minutes waiting the same barmaid took my payment for drinks, didn’t ask why we were doing this and had the same unfriendly attitude that confirmed we were right to leave. Maybe a smile, some manners and to actually not forget about your customers would be my advice to the management. It seemed an inconvenience for them for us to be there. Shame as it looked a nice pub and we’d made a special 35 mile round trip to visit.

Disappointed as no roast dinners available despite a post advertising same. Seemingly no roasts in Summer otherwise had a lovely meal ,service was good and fab company .

Had the scampi and chips nothing special left most of my food, scampi was not cooked through I will return and give this place a second chance maybe try something different. Clean beers and in a good area next to the canal

What a fabulous place this was. We caught up with family for a drink and something to eat. There was a wonderful playground for the kids.

Stopped off to have a drink after walking canal path or lydiate loop. Friendly staff always a busy pub.

Very disappointed as I popped in about 5.30 to ask if dogs were allowed, and if they had any garden burgers in stock. The girl said yes, and told me which part of the pub we could sit in. I said great, see you later. When we returned after an hour or so, we were told no more food orders were being taken! We were on a boat a fair walk away, and were meeting friends at the pub later, and as my husband is disabled we had no time to walk back to the boat and return. I just wish they would have warned me when I first went in. I said can't you even do a portion of chips only to be told no, if I did it for you, I'd have to do it for everyone! I imagine most other people would have transport to go elsewhere in that case, but we were stuck, with a packet of crisps for our evening meal. Won't be back.

We usually go on a Friday evening. Good atmosphere, great selection of ales and lager and the usual Friday staff are brilliant.......Proper bar staff who actually engage with customers and who know your round before you order.....a dying art in my view!

First visit.. Very popular with families. Secure play area for children. Car park full. Food ok we had fish Friday £11 fish chips peas tartar sauce plus a drink. Chips a bit hard but over all good value for money. Nicely presented. Friendly staff. Plus you can also have a walk along the canal.

The food was amazing I can’t fault the kitchen, but the staff lack the potential this place could have, people spilling drinks and there looking at them like they haven’t got it in them to be bothered at all to have that natural customer service and understand accidents happen, that’s not all staff but there’s a few that could do with leaving there problems at the door and throwing a fake shift smile on there faces, as someone who works in hospitality I’m not one to complain but the service was lacking, there was one young lad who wore jeans and pretty high jeans and he was carrying the team if it wasn’t for him they would really have fallen completely flat and my review would be worse, the pub and food are amazing and I feel awful doing this review but the service could have done with a fake smile at least

Our 2nd monthly lunch outing. 12 of us last month 8 this month. Couldnt fault the quality of food and the service. The gammon steak is excellent. See you next month

4 of us visited for dinner on Saturday night and had to return on Monday for lunch. Food is delicious served by lovely attentive staff in a great warm atmosphere. Well done to Heather and the team, so lucky to have this place as our local.

Visited tonight and was genuinely impressed staff couldn't do enough for us food was beautiful! Very good value for money as we're the drinks. My boyfriends dad loves a desert but was stuffed after a Huge portion of fish and chips, so the management had no problem letting him take a desert home. We have already planned what we will be having on our next visit xxx

A lovely pub with friendly service. The food was excellent. The staff were really interested in what we were doing (5 day sponsored walk). The meal really set us up for the long walk along the towpath to Burscough.

We have had so many different meals at the Running Horses while our kitchen has been renewed, every meal has been delicious and today Sunday roast beef and chicken 🍽 amazing 👏 the youngsters had burgers 🍔 and yes, loved them. A big thanks to Lyndsey and her staff for making us feel so welcome.

Had a meal here today with my family. Place is in a beautiful location on the canal. Staff were friendly and service was great. We had chicken and beef roast dinners and they were delicious. Also had chicken burger and ranch burger my husband and son said they were amazing. We will definitely be back. Lovely outside area for the summer.

First time using this website as our server recommended leaving feedback after our meal. First time visiting this pub, decided to pop in for some lunch. Excellent food, my wife would very much recommend the gammon steak. Great service from the young man. Attentive, polite and charismatic - very much added to our experience. This is our second visit and it was as good as the first. The food is amazing. I had the fish and chips and it was honestly the best I've ever tasted. I would highly recommend this plaice (fish n chips joke) to anybody. Thank you for a gorgeous meal.

Just had a lovely mid week meal here. For a Tuesday tea time / evening / winter/ it was busy, Great menu, varied from steaks to pizza, burgers. Service was excellent , the staff here are friendly, professional and go the extra mile. My rump steak was lovely, the 3 starters deal too is excellent as well. Can recommend the Running Horses for a great relaxed , pub meal , great atmosphere, value for money , lovely background music , not too loud , and great service from the staff. 👍👍

Excellent service from extremely friendly staff. The food was served quickly and it was cooked fresh to order. I can honestly say the food was devine. I had the Reaper Burger and it is one of the best burgers that I have ever tasted. It was cooked to perfection and flavours were on another level. I will definitely be returning.

Great pub has been one of my favourites for a long time , have recently updated the menu and its looks fantastic there is heaps of choice. The staff are friendly and welcoming, would definitely recommend a visit . Ideal pub for the summer months.

Excellent..we moored just outside the pub, and we were given a very genuine welcome. Dogs are welcome. Great customer service from all staff we were greeted with a smile and an attitude of taking care of their customers both locals and those visiting. We enjoyed an excellent meal and would certainly return if in the area.

Called in as passing on the canal, despite being very busy the staff were fantastic and managed to find us a table. The was fantastic, the staff very friendly. Would recommend to anyone who is in the area.

We booked here as a family of 7. It was very busy as it was a sunny Sunday. We ordered our meals. Had a little wait for them as it was very busy. Lyndsey was very apologetic. All meals arrived lovely and clean plates at the end. My 2 granddaughters especially love the zip wire! Always a warm welcome in this establishment. All staff are lovely but a special mention for Lyndsay who is so friendly and has time for everyone even when it’s extremely busy!

Thank you for making us feel so welcome. This is a beautiful pub. Staff were amazing. Went with grandson who is autistic and they were fantastic with him. Food was lovely. Veggie roast dinner was spot on. Best roast potatoes I've had. Well worth a visit. Will definitely be going back again.

Couldn't recommend this place enough. Lovely canal walk ending here on a Saturday night. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. So very friendly. Food AMAZING and the gin was delicious too. Hope to come back sometime because that menu there was not one item on there I wouldn't have ordered!!!! Nothing better than an evening walk and finding this beautifully lit pub on the way! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

First visit with our 3 yo and 8 yo, was greeted by warm and friendly staff. Drinks and meal came in good time. Couldnt fault the food or the staff. A pleasant surprize after food walking into the garden to find a superb play area for the kids. A few bits of the play equipment was out of order, but plenty still to enjoy. Great Atmosphere, will be back.

The Runnies is a fab pub once again (previous owner was awful) Food was lovely, service was 100% spot on. Always go above an beyond for our nephew (allergic to the world!!) Play area always a win with our littler ones and Daddy's! Can't fault it :)

Just found this place by chance after going for a walk. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We always return to here for their amazing "desperado burger", it's the best I've ever had and can't be beaten.

Food was good pub grub. But the staff are so friendly and the menu is very generous and designed to let kids get good food over the summer holidays for nothing or next to nothing. The kids' play area is enjoyed by the little ones.

We came to The Running Horses on 17th July, as we hadn’t booked, the Manager and staff were brilliant and accommodated us. The service was excellent and they were so lovely as my mum struggles with some disabilities. The food was really really nice and would recommend to anyone going there for drinks, food and the beer garden outside. Highly recommend, can’t thank them enough
