Been a customer here for the past 10 years and it is my go to place. The friendly welcomes from the staff and the lovely atmosphere within the Grainger Market, teamed up nicely with the most delicious coffee, makes coming here the number one choice. Staff are super knowledgeable and are able to offer suggestions and recommendations.

All the other coffee beans in the world are peanut butter and jealous of the beans that arrive at Pumphreys. Each bean is gently massaged by their elite baristas before being flawlessly crushed into smooth seductive coffee dust. That dust is then expertly crafted into a delicious coffee that will bring you more comfort than your own mother's embrace. You'll thank the team for their hard work, excellent customer service and class coffee. And you'll weep knowing that the coffee you have at home will never measure up to this little Geordie coffee haven. They also do tea. 12/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another of Grainger Market’s gems 💎 ❤️ 📍Pumphrey’s Coffee Located directly next to my favourite Biang Biang Noodles store, this coffee bar is a definite must-visit for coffee enthusiasts ☕️ the ambience is lovely for a quick cuppa, or just to sit in and have a nice warm hot choc. I just love the vibes. The various types of beans they have, their knowledge of their craft, the barista art - all adds to the charm of this spot. I like to stop here just after having pleasant meals in the offerings of Grainger Market 😄

i have been thinking about posting a review quite a while now. The black guy working at Pumphrey’s is very rude, in contrast with the general atmosphere. In general decent qualify coffee but personally I’ d appreciate a touch of politeness and manners.

What a gem of an independent coffee shop with a very knowledgeable team to help and advise your way through the notes and offers of coffee beans on sale. It was a delight to see the coffee making being done correctly by Samson and the excellent customer service given by Roberto. Thank you for giving that ray of sunshine on a cloudy day!

These coffee beans are the best! Fantastic quality at prices that won't make your wallet cry. And I scored a coffee dripper that came with more than 50 filters, and makes the perfect V60 brew. Seriously, I can't stop raving about this place – it's my coffee paradise!

Coming from Sydney and being picky about coffee, this place surely steps up as one of my favourites. Coffee like we get in Sydney. Tried Daterra Sunrise blend - strong good coffee with nutty flavour and good aftertaste.

Came in the morning and the coffee is sooo good. Was planning to bring some beans back but it’s a bit pricy.

Managed to buy Lapsang Souchong tea, which I can no longer buy in the supermarkets.

I went for a specific tea and they ordered it in for me, and it came when they said. It's also in the very atmospheric Grainger Market, so always a pleasure to visit. I just wish it was open a little later than 5. Beware: the map at entrances to the market lists Pumphrey's at Units 51-53, but it isn't. It's under the glass roof in the middle of the market, where as far as I can see the units are unnumbered. So just head for the glass roof; you can see where it is by the extra light in one area of the market.

Great coffee, knowledgeable and friendly staff, a really great place to have coffee in Newcastle...it just needs more seats...

This is my go-to for all things coffee/tea for making at home! Always very friendly and knowledgeable with the widest selection of Decaff coffee beans I have ever seen!

I visited yesterday to buy a birthday present for my partner. I am completely clueless when it comes to coffee so the server talked me through the various products I could use for brewing and serving. She also recommended some different coffees for him to try with different flavour profiles. All in all, this was an incredibly positive experience, I now know more about coffee than I ever thought I would. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Pumphreys!

Coffee is simply great. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is our first week in Newcastle and we have been there three times already!

Service is extremely slow even though there’s no customers. The male barista (bigger guy) spends hours just yapping with regulars, ignoring other customers. Not coming back.

For the first time ever, a very disappointing coffee. 😞

I bought 300g of beans from the storefront. There's no indication of when they were roasted, or sat in the container for. However, my main issue is that there's less than 270g in the bag, it's closer to 250g than 300g. I won't be going back.

Great place to get loose leaf tea and freshly ground coffee. Both takeaway drinks and beans and leaves for home brewing. Wide selection of flavours and styles available by weight as well as tea and coffee preparation items. Friendly knowledgeable staff happy to answer any questions.

The Pumphreys stall in the Grainger Market is an utter delight. I hugely enjoyed sitting at a small table drinking velvety, opulent flat whites and trying a delicious cookie. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.I bought some excellent coffee for home use. This is an unpretentious, essential destination for serious coffee drinkers.

Not a massive coffee drinker but do like their flat white with oat milk. Not sure if this is still happening but card payments have to be over £5 so be careful if you don't have any money on you

We ordered a Hot chocolate and Mocha from Pumphreys and the staff are so lovely and approachable! (they recommended a few spots were we could drink outdoors) and the quality of the drinks were absolutely top notch! We will definitely be returning!

Visited yesterday around 12.30 to pick up a tin of coffee. There was a considerable queue of customers waiting for takeaway coffees as well as those waiting to order loose coffee. The young girl serving never stopped - and despite the workload her attitude was charming - smiling to her customers, polite and efficient. A credit to Pumphries personnel recruitment! It's all too easy to be critical - especially in these "dark times" We should equally give praise when we encounter nice service to cheer us up? Great range of good quality coffees and teas and set out attractively.

A shop inside the famous Grainger Market in Newcastle specialists in worldwide brands of coffee with a small seated area for those wishing to try what's available Restricted space at the moment as the Market is full of scaffolding as the roof is under replacement and incredibly this will take a year!! Market like a vast building site at present

The coffee is superb. Always. With a great choice of roasted beans available for on-the-spot grinding, it's on my regular tourist trail. Try to know how much you want! The lady serving me was impatient because I didn't know how much the Pumphrey's bags held so I couldn't tell her the weight.

Great coffee bar in the Grainger Market. Went there everyday for coffees on my week's trip. Do an excellent decaf expresso which is hard to tell difference from real thing. Nice helpful staff.

You don’t have to hesitate regarding taking a cup of their marvelous coffee! Their coffee is awesome! You should try it ! If you are obsessed with drinking Late, dont miss trying “detarra coffee”, you will definitely fall in love with it ! The bad thing about this cafe is that there are not enough seats for those who prefer to sit in!

Great specialist blends and roasts

I visited Pumphreys a couple of times on a recent visit to Newcastle. It seems it is a bit of a Newcastle institution. I certainly found it a great place to while away some time with a coffee whilst chilling and people watching in Grainger Market. The house blend on this occasion was quite fruity. I did find a double shot gave the strength I was looking for. They do coffee beans/roasted to take away and I bought a kilo of their strong Italian beans. Just tried them today and it's an amazing strong coffee. Great place.

Pumphreys is a proper local company who roast their beans just a few miles away in Blaydon. The staff here are really knowledgeable and never tire of being asked about each of the coffee blends and roasts on sale. It's a great place for a quick break in the city centre.

Thank god there are companies like Pumphreys that actually make a very good cup of excellent coffee. There doesn’t seem to be a great coffee culture in Newcastle as the several coffee chain outlets were buzzing and Pumphreys quiet. . As anyone who enjoys a proper coffee will attest that the stuff they sell is pretty awful. They also have a huge range of coffee beans to buy. A must for anyone with a coffee machine. I only wish I lived in Newcastle so I could become a regular.

There's not much more to be said about Pumphrey's than that. Go if you want something I bit different and of a much higher quality than the high street chains. One of the best in toon

Este pequeño café bar/tienda nunca se sabe es que siempre vale la pena visitar cuando en la ciudad.

Tenía un doble espresso, un televisor blanco y un capuchino entre nosotros y quedamos muy impresionados. Tenía la elección entre dos tipos de granos de café dependiendo de las preferencias y ambos eran marcadamente diferentes, pero absolutamente genial. Este es sin duda el lugar a donde ir en N-u-T si te gusta su café recién hecho de la mejor manera posible.
