Dene's Deli in Newcastle upon Tyne

What a gem of a place! Lovely service and great selection of sandwich fillings. One Iggy's Smokey Cokey and one Local Hero. They also have a selection of cakes including some from Cake Stories.

The sandwiches are unreal, and the prices are fair. The menu is gigantic, offering something for everyone. The staff are incredibly friendly every time, without fail, and the service is super quick. There are no faults!

My wife and I visit here at least once a month. My wife’s favourite sandwich is the iggy’s Smokey cokey (but swap pineapple for jalapeños) and my favourite is Beef Encounter of the Hungry Kind. We have never had a bad sandwich or salad from here and will continue to frequent Dene’s deli for the yummiest lunch! Also, their flapjack is honestly the best I’ve ever had. There can often be a queue, but trust me, it’s worth the wait. All staff are always super lovely too.

Had the Argy Bhaji on baguette. Feel harsh giving 3 stars as it was lovely. Just thought there could've been more bhaji, a touch less lime pickle and I don't think there was any yoghurt in it, unless the lime pickle was overpowering it? Added after owner response - thanks for the reply. Like I say, it's a harsh 3 stars because the sandwich was lovely. I know from previous visits and how busy the shop is, along with the deserved reputation, that it's a 5 star shop.

Went here for lunch 10/10 - the sandwiches were really good and fresh! Staff were very nice and patient

Who'd have thought a sandwich shop would cater for coeliacs so well! Plenty of gluten-free or other dietary requirement options! Majority of staff are fantastic and welcoming. The pistachio cake from Cake Stories was fresh, and the homemade florentine was very good.

Unreal food, ordered a Kamikaze Chicken sandwich with jalapeños on poppy seed bread. Food was delicious and fresh, service was quick and friendly considering how busy this place can get. Can’t recommend it enough.

I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager and have always had good experiences but today was awful. Literally 3 wafer thin bits of chicken in my sandwich I hope this was just a mistake and not the new standard as it was very poor value I feel like I’ve just eaten bread with a smear of mayo. Not good

Best Deli in Newcastle! Great selection of gluten free options to enjoy. The team are very friendly and helpful and always have a good chat with them all. The kamikaze chicken sandwhich is a personal favourite and the pistachio and Rose petal cake is a *must*! Once you’ve had one, you will keep coming back!

I didn't have time to think about what sandwich to order so I just went with a sausage roll and samosa, both were great but the sausage roll was the best I'd ever had. Really friendly and welcoming staff

This award winning sandwich shop is worth the visit, you could go every day and it would take weeks to get through the menu, I would but my waist won't let me! Fab choice of breads and filling, made for you as you wait, just how you like it. Good choice of sweet treats too and savoury temptations. All this served by some of the friendliest and helpful staff you will ever find. Don't miss out!

What a find! Visiting Jesmond food market with friends we chose to seek out this deli as opposed to queuing at the stalls on the bridge. I was greeted warmly, guided through the menu, and the girl who served me even helped me choose. The menu is huge and I was spoilt for choice! All our sandwiches were made individually to order with great attention to detail. Ingredients were top quality, fresh and good value for money. Great cake selection too. Thank you. We’ll be back in droves!

Popped in on a busy Saturday afternoon. I only wanted a bottle of water so grabbed one out the cooler. Everyone seemed to be waiting to be served along with me yet 4 members of staff were stood at the end of the counter just chatting and giggling amongst themselves and ignoring said customers. Ended up putting the water back in the fridge and left. Wont be going back.

Sandwiches here are delicious, I had chicken with brie on a seeded bun with mayo and salad. Fairly priced, great value for money. It's well worth a visit.

Fantastic award winning deli making fresh custom sandwiches and much more, with lots of tasty cakes and brownies. I recommend their chocolate rice crispie slices and their sesame bagels with the filling of your choice. Gets busy sometimes, but many people preparing everything and it's always worth the wait. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

One of my favourite places to eat. Their sandwiches are so good, and set the bar so high that you instantly realise most other places are just serving you disappointment between two slices of mighty white in comparison. Definitely go but be prepared to have a new standard set which all other sandwich shops will fail to meet. They used to sell the best crisps in the world too, what I’d call the habanero bad boys. I think the manufacturer stopped making them but they were nuts (and also the mutt’s nuts). Too hot to nail a bag in one go but an amazing addition to a sarnie.

Every now and again I get my husband to bring me here for a few slices of their plain flapjack. When I was pregnant no where else did a flapjack that satisfied my cravings but this one is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth a little drive (well atleast for me it is). As well as being really tasty it is also very reasonably priced too which is a bonus!

Nice sandwiches however far too costly We sat and worked out how much the sandwiches cost and the owner is completely ripping customers off overcharging for sandwiches Yes they have a nice selection however totally overcharging customers She needs to reduce the amount of staff she has and reduce the cost of the sandwiches as I would hang my head in shame charging someone over five pounds for a sandwich especially when people are struggling with the cost of living

I’m absolutely hooked on Dene’s deli sandwiches, I get one almost every week. I love this place! Huge sandwiches, freshly made to order with good quality fillings and absolutely delicious bread (poppy seed stottie for me!) The staff are friendly and welcoming which makes it such a nice little local deli. After trying about 10 different sandwiches, I just can’t get enough of the Super 16: avocado, beetroot, feta cheese and salad which goes perfectly with both the yoghurt spread and carrot pickle, so tasty! 😋

Nearly £5 for a coronation chicken sandwich and to be charged extra for a few jalapeño really, lovely shop but sandwich had very little filling and very disappointed with the taste also, I new it was not going to be a cheap sandwich but nearly £5 wow very disappointed as this was a rare treat for me and 1.50 for a small bag of crisps. Not for the poor working class.

First choice when getting my lunch, I love their salads and they are always made with good quality ingredients. Lovely staff. Can get busy on a Saturday

A huge delicious range of fillings and breads to choose from here, and you can build your own. The salad boxes are great too and there are some lovely sweet treats, drinks and crisps to add to your lunch. Love it!

Dene's Deli is my first choice for sandwiches. I was introduced to their sandwiches well over 20 years ago and its one of the things I look forward to on a Friday lunchtime each week. If I'm working from home, the family know they're in for a treat as they know I'll still make a sandwich run on a Friday. (A benefit to them as we continued to work from home as lockdown eased last year ;)) Fantastic menu, so much variety and always freshly made. I order ahead and collect and always greeted by their friendly staff.

Yes 27 years I have been a customer , this my third review , why ? After reading reviews was looking forward to breakfast sandwich only to be totally disappointed. We got 2 sausage and bacon rolls although it contained 2 sausages and 2 slices of bacon they were hardly warm and my husband said they were microwaved. He asked for sauce and they were swimming it never ever had as much sauce on anything. Will avoid from now

Best sandwiches I have ever come across. Great value and friendly service. Ingredients are fresh, crazy selection and the sarnies are weighty and powerful. You shan't go hungry. My top tier sammiches: Iggy's smokey cokey Go the whole hog Chicken tikka coronation with mango and bhaji + mint yoghurt (The Argy Barhjis underappreciated and better sibling which should have a name it's so good) The Devilled crab is amazing too but pretty spicy Pole in one

Delicious, healthy food. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is for hygiene reasons as a member of staff answered the phone while they were making a sandwich.

Absolutely amazing coronation chicken salad.. can't believe I've just wrote that about a salad, however give it a try and ask them to cut it up for you too, best I've ever had. You might pay a bit more here, but it's worth it and if you compare it to subway prices, Subway are bland and people still pay it... the food at this place definitely isn't.

Fantastic. I have a peanut allergy, so I went in today and had a chat with them. They were incredibly helpful. They told me they couldn't guarantee that the panini toaster was free from peanuts, but suggested a safer alternative which was still really enjoyable! Also a very good coffee too. Really appreciate the extra effort they went through to try and find something for me. Definitely give it a try if you are in the area!

I entered this shop to be told to wear a face mask even tho restrictions have been lifted, assistant told me they have been pinged several times therefore I was refused to be served unless I wore a mask. Slightly worrying the staff have been pinged several times but they are still open.

Disappointing, heard such good things about this place. Sandwich was incredibly dry with some of the fillings listed not included. Staff were very nice though, bun was good and coffee was very good.

Great selection of sandwiches which are generously portioned and full of flavour.

This is my go to place when I need a treat, a pick me up and some food to look forward to! I wouldn't normally buy take aways but this is an exception....great value for money, big portions with a boat load of filling, lovely choice of bread, quick super friendly service, covid rules taken seriously and always spotlessly clean - and that gives me confidence. Nice choice of cakes, tray bakes too My best sandwich....crunchy peanut butter with brie, lettuce, tomato and crunchy carrot chutney. Delicious. Heading there tomorrow!

Absolutely (pastrami) ham packed sarnie! Handsome & an absolute delight start to finish. Couldn't pass on an 11/10 caramelised onion and sausage roll chaser either. Bit grisly for my liking but easily overlooked cos it tasted lush. Quick serving, friendly staff were the cherry on the cake. Glad I stumbled across this place.

First visit and very impressed. Extensive menu of sandwiches. Copious array of drinks available. Really enjoyed my Polish sausage sandwich. Appears to be very popular judging by the number of people waiting to be served. Very fast, efficient and friendly staff. Further visits will be made 😷🤗

Incredible sandwich shop offering a huge range of amazing fillings, from classics to the more experimental. I've worked through the majority of the menu over the last few years and have never been disappointed. You have to visit if you're in the area and it's well worth the trip out of the city centre. Prices and portions are excellent as well. My personal recommendations are the Local Hero and Cheeky Monkey, but you really can't go wrong with anything. Ideal for a picnic in the Dene.

First time back for a sandwich since lockdown, ordered a cheese savoury on brown, always wonderful, fresh, best sarnie about imo, what i am annoyed about tho is i have a loyalty card, it's nearly complete and when I asked the lady to sign it, she said "We can't, because of the covid thing" this really annoyed me, she's only touching her own pen? Whats the big deal here??

You can buy reusable or single-use face coverings. You may also use a scarf, bandana, religious garment or hand-made cloth covering but these must securely fit round the side of the face." Unfortunate that you lost business due to misinterpretation of guidelines. A multi layered T-shirt seems to fall in line here, if not more so than a token gesture, poorly fitting mask. Except with you. I am all for wearing a face covering and have many times been one of the few to wear when many around did not. I hope you revisit the face covering guidelines and re-evaluate your view.

Going through the list of sandwiches 1 at a time, and all I can say is ‘awesome’ the freshness, taste and quality are second to none, staff all absolutely fantastic
