Pukka Fish & Chips in Ashford

Used to be our regular, till we moved 5 years ago, went back today, still the best in Ashford, (& we’ve tried most of them) cod & chips , brilliant, thanks

Food was ok .. although the chips were not very hot. I was overcharged by what the advertised prices were but the young man who was serving had serious attitude and informed me the price had gone up so the advertised price was wrong .. did not offer a refund of the overcharged amount and continued to have attitude just because I had challenged him.. the alleged manager was in the back but couldn’t be bothered to sort it out..

The only place I would order Fish and Chips from in Ashford, however the last few times I have ordered here the chips were sadly disappointing and nuggets were a little on the dry side.

Good value for money. Fish is always cooked fresh. One of the better fish and chips shops in Ashford.

Food was disgusting from here tonight took 1hr 20mins to arrive nothing looked or smelt fresh chips looked re heated. Kids cod bites were as hard as wood all tasted funny an non edible what a waste of £50 won't be ordering again for some time very dissapointed. Oh and my sons dinner bag split all over the table

I tried many, this is the best fish and chips I had in Ashford, not overcooked, great chips, and incredible tartare sauce.

The food was good, although one item was missed off our order. The member of staff seemed to ask everyone to repeat themselves.

Cod crispy and always fresh along with delicious chips every single time. Only thing is I don't like waiting for 10-15 minutes every time I order. However I understand it's because it's made fresh. Best chip shop in Ashford and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Price is fair for the portion amount.

Best fish and chip shop I’ve been too. The taste of the chips was fantastic. Everything cooked fresh. These guys know what they’re doing. Some lovely lads behind till too. I’m not in Ashford often but from now on if I am I will be getting food here.

Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Moved to Ashford from Surrey a few months ago and I'm very impressed with this fish and chips. Has extremely good battered sausages and fish and chips.

Best fish and chips in town. Really tasty with great service. The owner always greets you and cooks himself.

I don't know what you have done differently this week but my food today was amazing. So much better than the quality of the food I have had for the past few months. I don't know whether the ingreadients, oil, or anything else has changed but please keep doing it like that. I thoroughly enjoyed it today.

The chips tasted like as if it was cooked in burger fat, absolutely disgusting. Leaves a really bad aftertaste in your mouth. Was my first and will be my last visit there. Thankfully I didn’t waste my money buying fish too.

We visited this fish and chips shop after a day out in Kent. Food was Amazing food and Good customer service as well.

Normally a very reliable place to get decent fish and chips. My only small criticism is that they sellotape the bags of chips and food containers closed. I appreciate this stops stuff falling out but it makes the food 'sweat' and go a bit soggy when most people would prefer crisp batter and chips. I now ask them not to tape mine needless to say. Great portion sizes though!

Great food, although can be a bit slow being prepared. But I guess thats what you get for it being popular!

If you say it will be ready in 15 minutes, then please hold to that. Salt and vinegar....I think I had a years salt supply today. The cod and scampi, lovely.

Our favourite fish and chips. Always fresh, chips are crisp and non greasy and they know what ingredients are in all of their produce (for allergy queries). Fish is usually cooked to order so never had any soggy ones.

We visited this chip shop yesterday, after a 12 hour journey from France. We were all exhausted and starving. The young man serving us was so polite and friendly and chatted with us openly! He told us it may take 15 minutes as they cooked most things fresh. We sat waiting and he said to pull over another chair for our son. When we received our food, we were amazed by the portion sizes, they were all huge, and absolutely delicious. Everyone enjoyed the food. The price was fantastic too for a family of 5. We were very impressed with EVERYTHING about the chippy! Infact, we have just reheated the leftover chips in the air fryer, and had chip butties for tea😊 Five star service and food, I would recommend to anyone in the area, and will definitely go there next time on our way back from the ferry in Dover!!

Always delicious. This really is the best chippy in town. Good portion size, crisp batter, lovely chips. You can’t go wrong and we will always go here.

It wasn't expensive but it wasn't good either the cod I had was too well cooked and the batter was rock solid there was a lot of chaff in the chips and they weren't good either so I gave it 1 star..

Easy parking outside the shop. Took absolutely ages to cook my order but worth the wait. Chips were fried in a beef fat dripping from the taste. The saveloy s are the soft and squishy type, the wife prefers that sort, I don't. Sausage and batter good. Sausage is not herby thank goodness.

Cooked fresh, phone through your order first or you can be waiting a while. Best chippy in Ashford.

Very bad First time tonight getting food from here after seeing good reviews . But I wish I never did. My food tasted like it had been cooking in burger fat.there was a weird flame grilled taste to it all Very very greasy. Took ages to cook. Flat piece of cod. Wayyyyyyy too much salt on chips had to be thrown. Ended up eating my daughters left over cold happy meal which was more enjoyable. Won't return

I ordered fish, chips and a pie. When I ordered, I clearly requested that each item be packed separately as my wife doesn't eat fish. The person who started packing it, placed the fish on top of the chips. As this wasn't the same person who took my order, I understand they may have not been informed. I politely informed them that I had requested everything be packed separately. The fish was taken off and then replaced with the pie. I stated again that I had literally just asked for all items to packed separately. At this point, the carry bag was rudely handed to me without even putting the last item in the carry bag. I have given 2 stars because we were quite pleased the first time we went there. I, however, won't be visiting there again though.

Highly disappointing. Portions have become smaller and smaller, but they are not reflected in the prices. They stay as they are. Today I decided to try once more. Got even smaller and I felt it needed to be challenged. Totally shocked by the rude bosses reply. He did not deny they had got smaller infact he said that they have deliberately started to give smaller portions and that the prices have remained the same. Tottally buffled by his response I said that that is not quite how it works and that his sly tactics will catch up with him. Greed as clearly got the better of him. After this experience it is the last straw for me. Will not go again and do not reccomend. He did not even give locals a discount through the pandemic when he was open pretty much all the way through bar one month and we were all locked down. Staff looked scared and do not even say boo to a goose.

Tried all the fish shops in Ashford except the new one in town but this is definitely the best. Very very long wait though of 45 mins. Apparently you have to call the order ahead. Not fun standing in the cold waiting. Also I wish the fish was slightly larger.

The fish and chips was average to above but the smell of 'butter' that they are cooking with is off putting to me as you walk into the shop..

Not great tbh fish portions really skinny and the gravy and curry was bisto gravy made with a kettle he made the curry the same

The boss is very rude to employees. He cannot speak normally to them. Tells his staff off way too much for the amount he pays them. It looks like the boss has mental disorder because one minute he is fine and then the other minute he is shouting at employees. Very nasty man.

The food is okay. The chips have a weird aftertaste and smell but apart from that its edible. But the manager is quite rude to both his costumers and his staff.

I’m a regular visitor to Pukka fish food tastes nice however every time you visit there the owner is cutting corners offering slithers of fish I’ve seen fatter fish fingers , the chicken nuggets or fish nuggets are all batter hardly any fish or filling inside and the onion rings used to be hand made now he gets them out of a shop brought bag , I feel he’s cutting corners to maximise profits, very disappointed on occasion the Korker sausages were exchanged for the cheaper version not korkers beware you don’t get much for your money

The food here is all cooked to order so the wait can be quite long, especially on a Friday. The food is ok and the service friendly enough. A little inconsistent with the large chips though 🤔

We always buy our fish and chips from Pukka Fish. Purchased 4 cod and chips this evening but 3 out of the 4 cod were poor quality. The fish is usually white but today it was cream and no flavour. Maybe they have changed supplier as always so good ,with the little pot of tartar sauce and slice of lemon.

Menu use to state that they would give you tartar sauce with your fish, I foolishly mention to him that he did other sources and as she was making my free tartar sauce, he shook his head telling her not to to bother and so having short changed my order in a fashion, I do not go there anymore!

The fish and chips are great. However the service really could do with improving. I telephoned an order through and when I went to collect at the given time the order was THEN passed to the fryer and I then had to wait behind everyone else for 30 minutes. The whole point of telephoning the order is to avoid the wait, I'd much rather wait at home than stand with everyone else outside your shop. If you don't want to take telephone orders then say so, don't take it and then do nothing with it. Secondly when you receive an order give the customer an order number, and when it's ready call out the order number not recall the whole order. Firstly it will be much easier for you to call out a number, secondly people will be able to hear what you are saying from outside the shop better and thirdly if two people have the same order it will be clear whose is whose. You had a lot of disgruntled customers standing outside your shop last night, a few VERY simple changes would make everyone happy.

Fresh tasty food, and service with a smile. Had a long trip back from france going back to Birmingham, googled a local chippy near us on way home and this one popped up. all the food was fresh and delicious definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area.

Always been good but tonights was awful. Really greasy fish and chips. The chips were luke warm and lots of bits and just tasted awful.

First class fish, chicken and chips. Cooked well, ordered ready for collection. Always top quality. Would recommend to anyone - just remember portions are big!

We are regulars here and have never had a bad meal. Staff are lovely and everything is cooked to order. The trick is to phone your order in and avoid the ques. It's a good price with big portions definitely reccomend it!

First time for us and whilst you have to wait for it to be cooked. IT WAS MORE THAN WORTH IT, brilliantly cooked, fresh fish and great chips, loved the little touch of home made tarter sauce and lemon on the side, it stayed so hot, we’ll packages and expertly done, would I, will I go back you bet. Best chippy in Willesborough. Always busy which is a good indication of how good a place is. Everything is freshly cooked to order. Priced well with good portions.

I was there a few days ago (10th August) and was plesently surprised by the quality of the fish and tastey fish, I had Skate which you do not see very often and the other half had cod, both a good size and tasty. Highly recommended.

Loved the premium chicken nuggets with curry sauce the most. Rest of the food are good as well, fresh fried!
