My friend and I were on the "Brighton Restaurant Tour" and one of the locations for lunch was this fabulous place. It was also my birthday, so they made the experience extra special with a glass of prosecco after our meal for both of us to enjoy! The staff added to the experience and made our hour so enjoyable! My husband and I went for afternoon tea and came away very underwhelmed by the whole experience. At no time was there a warm welcome or any introductory pleasantries. The tea was served in the bistro which was practically empty and was laid up for dinner, a real lack of ambience prevailed. A menu had been left on the table but when the waitress took our order and I asked about the different teas she merely said they were all in the menu. The food itself was very good, particularly the savoury items, brioche rolls, rye bread and mini filled croissants. However at no point did anyone ask if we would like our teapot refilled or if everything was ok. When we had finished and finally managed to attract a member of staff I asked if the uneaten cakes could be boxed and taken away, as is usual at an afternoon tea. I would normally expect the remaining cakes to be taken away and returned in a box, instead we were given an empty box and left to pick up the cakes and package them ourselves! All in all the experience was disappointing to say the least.

On our frequent visits to Brighton and Hove we have visited the ‘bistro du vin’ our visits have excellent to only ok but we’ve persevered thru’ habit and convenience. No longer I’m afraid. Our visit on Tuesday was not the best dining experience one could have. Our fillet steaks were dry and our fries had passed thru a Siberian salt mine before they reached our table, £130 for 2 people, honest, I’d rather have had a McDonald’s. Go to Drakes instead, same money far superior food and ambience.

A second visit in 6 months and a much better experience than our evening visit last Winter. Lovely ham hock and cheese croquettes starter, tasty battered haddock and nice desserts. The house vin de pays d'Oc was also pretty good for under 20 pounds a bottle. Only slight complaint was dirty wine glass on the laid table and the door next to our table needed a good wipe, but foodwise, very happy.

My partner surprised me with my birthday meal, from the moment we walked in we was treated with first class service... En primer lugar, no tenían 2 de las opciones de vino solicitadas por algunos huéspedes. Luego pasar a la comida. Entrantes sobrevalorados con la ensalada de pera y roquefort con 3 piezas de queso y una pequeña rebanada de pera, el resto se va. Algunas de las principales quedaron muy hambrientas, la lubina era literalmente un pequeño filete de pescado y 4 tomates crudos y algunas migas de pan, el cordero virtualmente todavía respiraba y era imposible cortarlo. Cuando algunos miembros del grupo solicitaron cocción adicional, simplemente la reemplazaron con otra pieza de cordero sin cocer. Los postres fueron un poco mejores, aunque la torta de polenta con la que pudiste construir una casa fue muy difícil. Encima de eso, tener que solicitar anteojos limpios porque estaban sucios. No es lo que esperas para una habitación y un menú caros! ! ! Vergüenza como se veía hermosa desde el exterior.

Requested a reservation at 8pm. They said they could do 7.30pm, but agreed 8pm. On arrival, restaurant more or less empty but they sat us directly next to another couple so we could hear them and vice versa. The restaurant was thereafter never more than half full! Onion soup starter was lovely but quiche starter was cold and bland. Dressed crab and chips was so dry I didn’t finish it. Plaice Goujons about as exciting as a couple of fish fingers. Won’t return. No surprise the restaurant never filled up, on a Friday night! Staff friendly and efficient though.

Four of us visited today (Mother's Day) to celebrate my friend's birthday. Luigi looked after us and offered great service, which matched the equally wonderful food offerings. Soup of the day was roasted red pepper - full of flavour, then there was the French market table - oh my! Charcuterie, seafood, breads, pickles (the courgette was particularly good), sauces and garnishes. All four of us opted for roast beef to follow - we all chose to have it pink, and it was very tender. The vegetables came separately and were perfectly cooked, not in the slightest bit overdone. Good roast potatoes, and lovely airy Yorkshire puds. Plentiful gravy and - when requested - good, hot horseradish sauce. My pud was creme brulee - creamy with just the right amount of crispy caramelised topping. My friend's cheese looked good too. All in all, a lovely experience - we also got champagne and a little L'Occitane gift for each of the women, as it was Mother's Day (no proof of motherhood required, which was just as well!). My favourite place for Sunday lunch :)

Certainly not the cheapest venue in Brighton but if it that something special that you are looking for then go no further. A very wide selection of drinks available served with competent and professionalism in very comfortable surroundings. Small bites or more substantial meals are all available. I have been here several times. On the last time we went for a Valentines meal. My food was burnt. I sent it back but it came back again with a message that it wasn't burnt at which point I gave up all hope and decided to avoid this place. My partner couldn't eat her food. The bar area seems to be frequented by travelling sales reps who make a lot of noise. On previous occasions the food was definitely better, the service is generally good.

We have just had an excellent meal at Hotel du Vin Bistro. The service was superb. The staff made so much effort to help us celebrate my mother's 99th birthday. We were greeted with a glass of champagne, and were given a complimentary desert complete with candles and a personalised message. The entire waiting staff joined us in singing Happy Birthday. It made the day very special for her. I cannot praise the staff enough. In particular Luca who made all the arrangements.

Arrived and staff were courteous. We were offered a table right next to the check in desk when the room was almost empty. So we had to take the initiative and ask for a nicer table. Lady was courteous and efficient but no warmth. Nice glass of champagne and then nicely presented tea arrived and we were told to eat the scones quick as they were warm ( before the savouries with champagne ??). Savouries were nice but personally a mini quiche is not to my taste, would have preferred a nice sandwich. The plates were not changed so ended up eating cakes with taste of smoked salmon. We were not asked if everything was ok. Choice of tea is extensive but too many fruity types, no Assam or Lapsang Suchong. That to my mind is missing the point of traditional afternoon tea. Scones are massive and cold by the time we got round to them. So in summary the food offering does not quite hit the spot and the service is more of a process than a customer centric experience.

Staying overnight on a DB&B; we ate in the Bistro and elected from the set menu, which had surprising good choice. We both choose the Mackerel starter which was delicious. I had the the Venison and beetroot pie, a fantastic dish that was absolutely delicious served with real thick cut chips that were almost as big as roast potatoes. Had the misfortune to have Christmas Lunch in the Hotel Du Vin Dining Room. We arrived exactly on time and were given our included glass of champagne and told to wait in the bar until called. After 25 minutes we got the impression we had been forgotten and only on enquiry were we shown to our table. Unfortunately we were given a table close to the door to the bar which was left open. From there we could hear the piped music on the bar and the different music in the dining room.

I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past but not for some time and I have to say was disappointed in the food this time and I would return based on that experience. It was mid week and for friends birthday . For the standard of food it was extremely over priced . Shallot tarte Tartin with goats cheese .. the goats cheese was just a very small slice on top which once cooked was almost non existent . It looked like it had been thrown on the plate . Followed by sea bass which looked very bland , small and didn’t really taste of anything even though there was a sauce as an accompaniment I didn’t go for pudding as had been disappointed by my previous courses. I thought it may have been me .. but someone else in the party was also of the same opinion who had chosen a different main meal to be . Overall disappointing and wouldn’t return . Much better restaurants for the same price in the area

We had a lovely lunch here when we stayed. The staff were attentive, the lunch menu was just right. The selection of different wines was incredible. We even met the sommelier later on in the day whose knowledge was amazing.

Fuimos aquí para el cumpleaños de un amigo. El restaurante tiene mala acústica y era muy ruidoso, la comida era muy normal teniendo en cuenta el precio, mi pan de hamburguesa estaba quemado. Compraron 2 dulces pero luego olvidaron el resto y tuvimos que quejarnos dos veces para obtener los otros 8. Así que al final llegaron más de 30 minutos después de los dos primeros. El vino es muy caro lambrusco en la lista de vinos en 36 para darle una idea. Dada la cantidad de restaurantes en Brighton para elegir, no volvería aquí de nuevo.

Popped in for a drink and a cheese board on 27th October afternoon as the pub part next door advertised as being open, closed about three months ago, apparently. The serving staff didn’t understand or have any clue about the menu on offer or if the wines advertised were available and had to be asked to go and enquire. Half the beers “weren’t able to be sourced”, although I can get them in Tesco! Cheese board was unimaginative and £12 for one person. It wasn’t presented very nicely, on a plate with a knife and fork. Wine was about £8 for a 125ml glass. Specialist beers weren’t served in the correct glasses,, with a, different brand name on my husbands glass to the expensive bottled beer being consumed. Not what I’d expect. This type of show, in my experience, tends to be the result of poor management.

Estaba un poco preocupado, ya que habíamos leído varias críticas negativas en TA; sin embargo mis temores eran infundados; tuvimos una comida encantadora, toda la comida estaba caliente y deliciosa. Tuve el primer plato de gambas que estaba delicioso. We dined at the bistro on Bank Holiday Monday and enjoyed another good dinner. The service was friendly although they were a bit stretched and need a manager in the room to coordinate activities. Several guests were left standing at the entrance to the bistro unattended... they should do better here. The food quality was good however we had the calves liver which was really tasty and portions are always generous here. Why H&S; dictate that a customer cannot have calves liver cooked ‘pink’ I cannot comprehend... any explanation would be welcome. We will return for sure but the Restaurant needs to watch staffing levels.

The hotel du vin really needs to review its standards of service. The restaurant was not very busy but still the service was very poor. Waited 35 minutes after main courses had been cleared before able to attract attention to order anything else. Such poor service just can’t be justified.

We went for Sunday lunch yesterday and I just wanted to say what an enjoyable experience it was. The staff were without exception friendly and professional and the lunch was excellent - good quality and a good choice for a reasonable price. The only very small criticism is that a larger portion of vegetables with the roast woud have been preferred for the four of us rather than so many potatoes. In all it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience which we will definitely repeat.

Had high hopes & expectations based on other people’s recommendations and reviews. The starter buffet was amazing but the main course was well under average. The chicken was dry and potatoes not very well cooked and “old” The Yorkshire was burnt and was presented with a 2nd burnt offering as a replacement. Did talk to the waiter about it who said he would talk to the chef-that was the last we heard of it! The beef was amazing as was desert, just a shame about the rest. I’m hoping that this was due to arriving at 3pm but standards should be consistent.

Overall we have visited here before so we were happy we got a table on pride evening when everything else was booked. Now we know why! The service is very lacking and not attentive. We had to specifically request a wine list and then get the attention of the staff to order it. We then had to send the mussel starters back due to them being gritty, we were informed we could have these deducted from the bill and another starter on the house. We chose prawns and mushrooms, the prawns were bland and lacking flavour, however the mushrooms were nice. For the main course we had the Chateaubriand which compared to other restaurants was average (if that). The best thing about the food was the carrots!!! Overall would not recommend and wish we had read the trip advisor reviews before hand. Poor service and disappointing food for the hefty price tag!

We originally wanted to eat at the ivy but they were fully booked, we asked for there recommendation and they told us to eat here- we shouldn’t of listened ! We were all gutted we came, it was our first night in Brighton and it was wasted on an awful meal...

Visited here with some friends for lunch. They were not busy at all however the service was so painfully slow. It took ages to order our drinks and then to get their attention to order food. The drinks and food took ages even though we were the only ones in the place. The waiter was not friendly in the least and didn't make us feel welcome.

Went for lunch in the Bistro with friends, who had booked a table. Nice relaxed ambience in the place which is a positive. Service was quite slow, especially the drinks menu, and drinks order which seemingly took an age to arrive. Quite a varied menu, and food service was ok. Food was enjoyable, but about fair to the prioce. There are better places to eat in Brighton.

This looks good, with part of the bistro in a pretty courtyard, nice decor and promising classic menu. BUT it took ages t0 be served and though the starters were fine, the main courses were all overcooked. The server did ask if everything was OK but just after we were served, when we hadn't really tried anything. We had been before when the food was fine, so maybe it was a different chef. We did say we weren't happy later (none of us finished our meals), didn't want a dessert (it was nearly 3 hours after we arrived) and didn't want to pay the service charge. At this point I would have expected a manager to come and see what the probem was, but no-one came to inquire. I also wrote to Hotel du Vin the next day, thinking to give them time to deal with my complaint before posting a negative review but 10 days later I have only had an acknowldgement of my email, in spite of the promise that "a member of staff would be in touch ..." So, lack of customer care as well as poor food. Or fur coat but no knickers.

Place has gone seriously down hill and tonight I downloaded their app in the hope of getting a hot meal delivered! Not the case, took over an hour and a half to deliver cold food. No apology and disgustingly rude driver. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!
