We only had drinks and food and did not stay here, however, what a delightful place. There was a courtyard where you could drink a glass of champagne between the hours of 5pm and 7pm for just £8.00 a glass and we had lovely service from Kim. We liked it so much we returned the following evening not just for the champagne but had the Tasing Menu which was exceptional value for money as each dish was accompanied with a glass of wine to compliment the various dishes. Our Maitre'd was Owen who helped to make the evening even better with the delicious 5 course tasing menu. For £59.99 what's not to love.

A wonderful meal served by professional Staff, it was a delight to enjoy ! Every aspect of the experience was very positive, the only thing which was less so being that the Staffing levels were low (possibly as there were relatively few diners…)

We visited her for my daughter’s wedding reception on a Friday in May. Sadly they had the builders in the courtyard which we had looked forward to using. We were advised of the disruption in advance and a compromise was reached. On arrival we were offered an alternative room away from the builders. The hotel had prepared two rooms so that we had a choice but of course the table favours and the place cards were not in place. We chose the alternative room and we were seated within about 20 mins. A stress we could have done without but all ok in the end. The staff was were good, efficient yet discrete when needed ie speeches. The food was amazing. So much better than expected for a set meal. Tasty, hot and plentiful. Best pate I have had for a long time.we were not fished at all. Nice bar area, choice of function rooms, friendly staff, nice venue. Highly recommended.

Booked a table of 2 at the Bistro for a special occasion with my maid of honour. We wanted a special treat. We are both vegan and saw on the website they offered a vegan tasting menu that looked amazing. We selected that menu when booking. Our booking was accepted. We were staying at the sister hotel Malmaison and we were running a bit late so our hotel called the Bistro to delay our booking. When arriving we were sat down, we ordered some water for the table and were handed the regular menus. We explained to the waiter that we'd like the vegan tasting menu as per our booking and we were treated pretty badly. The waiter told us, they didn't offer a vegan tasting menu, was dismissive of our claims that it's on their website and booking form and eventually he went off to speak to the kitchen. After a considerable amount of time, he came back and said we could only order from the a la carte. As it was late, we ordered from the menu, but then we were pretty much ignored for the rest of the evening, until we wanted to pay. We were so disappointed not being able to eat the meal we'd booked for, especially as they could've contacted us before we arrived, or even told our hotel when we called to delay our booking. Also, we then felt like we were an inconvenience to them, we didn't get check up on, nobody came to top up our glasses. Not a place for a special occasion as it's pitched. We ended up with an expensive bill for some fizz and a risotto and a bad experience. If you're looking for a special meal, I'd go somewhere else. I emailed the bistro giving them a chance for them to respond, but no response.

Arrived for our reservation a little early so had a few drinks in the bar. Was greeted by the kind, warm hearted humorous soul that is Kim who took care of us wonderfully for our stay in the restaurant. Food was brilliant and selection of drinks (especially whiskey) was amazing. The only reason this isn't a full 5 star review is that I found that the bar staff were very singularly focused and not necessarily on customers. Both myself and the table next to ours tried and failed a number of times to get someone's attention only to be ignored as the staff walked by. It was only an errant member of the restaurant team who managed to get their attention on our behalf. Otherwise enjoyable and wholesome experience, a very big part of this being our server Kim and we will be back in future.

Thank you to all the staff who helped us, we were delayed and the staff helped us move our dinner reservation, the service from entering the hotel was exceptional. We ate Dinner, breakfast and lunch there and the food was delicious, the portions were generous,...

HDV was an excellent restaurant in the past but,even allowing for Covid issues, is nowhere near as good as it was. Mediocre steaks charged at top prices. Service mediocre. Menu very limited. The steaks would seem better with sharper steak knives.

We ate in the lovely courtyard area. Menu was uninspiring and unfortunately dishes were not how they were described. Eggs Benedict was 2 overcooked poached eggs on untoasted muffins, with not particularly good quality smoked salmon and bland hollandaise (M&S do a better version). Then...

Have always had the perception that this is one of Brighton’s premier fine dining restaurants that is suitable for a special occasion. With this in mind, I booked it for my partners 50th birthday. Whilst not a bad experience, I was also felt slightly underwhelmed....

We visited here for my daughters graduation meal, a group of 7 of us. Hotel du vin was listed as top places to go for a graduation meal and we have previously been before/heard it had a good reputation, however our visit was disappointing and not what we expected.

I was hesitant to go after reading the negative reviews however we had such a lovely dinner. Staff were very attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. Really enjoyable and we would definitely visit again.

The staff is very nice and well organized. Everything was perfect, especially taking into consideration that we were a group of 8.

Attended this hotel for lunch with family and friends. Excellent, efficient and attentive service. Food choices were good and food was cooked exactly as we requested it. As we were celebrating, we asked for a house recommendation for champagne. House champagne was very good. Highly recommend for lunch.

My husband and I went for afternoon tea and came away very underwhelmed by the whole experience. At no time was there a warm welcome or any introductory pleasantries. The tea was served in the bistro which was practically empty and was laid up for dinner, a real lack of ambience prevailed. A menu had been left on the table but when the waitress took our order and I asked about the different teas she merely said they were all in the menu. The food itself was very good, particularly the savoury items, brioche rolls, rye bread and mini filled croissants. However at no point did anyone ask if we would like our teapot refilled or if everything was ok. When we had finished and finally managed to attract a member of staff I asked if the uneaten cakes could be boxed and taken away, as is usual at an afternoon tea. I would normally expect the remaining cakes to be taken away and returned in a box, instead we were given an empty box and left to pick up the cakes and package them ourselves! All in all the experience was disappointing to say the least.

Terrible experience and very poor staff!

On our frequent visits to Brighton and Hove we have visited the ‘bistro du vin’ our visits have excellent to only ok but we’ve persevered thru’ habit and convenience. No longer I’m afraid. Our visit on Tuesday was not the best dining experience one could have. Our fillet steaks were dry and our fries had passed thru a Siberian salt mine before they reached our table, £130 for 2 people, honest, I’d rather have had a McDonald’s. Go to Drakes instead, same money far superior food and ambience.

A second visit in 6 months and a much better experience than our evening visit last Winter. Lovely ham hock and cheese croquettes starter, tasty battered haddock and nice desserts. The house vin de pays d'Oc was also pretty good for under 20 pounds a bottle. Only slight complaint was dirty wine glass on the laid table and the door next to our table needed a good wipe, but foodwise, very happy.

The stuff simply doesn’t care, it took more than 30 before a waiter come to our table.After 40 I had to go to the bar and make the order there. It’s also super expensive especially if you consider the quality. Not recommended

Party of 6 for Fathers day Sunday lunch, we had a great time, little gift for the dads and a cocktail each, nice touch, food was very good, usual soup to start with the buffet table and a roast to finish with dessert.

We were unable to have pre dinner drinks at the hotel bar due to a private function and were advised to go down the road to the nearest pub, shame we didn't stay at the pub for our meal!

The coffee tasted so weak that we wondered if their machine was broken. They happily replaced the three coffees but they tasted exactly the same. Like dish-water. When I told the manager he just said “Oh” and carried on. Whatever happened to this once quality establishment ?

My partner surprised me with my birthday meal, from the moment we walked in we was treated with first class service... Luigi couldn't assist us enough with dietary requirements and honest recommendations. We had a cheese board to start which was divine and the chateaubriand was the best we have ever had. My partner had arranged for cakes to be delivered as a surprise too which they dealt with for him.

Entrantes sobrevalorados con la ensalada de pera y roquefort con 3 piezas de queso y una pequeña rebanada de pera, el resto se va. Algunas de las principales quedaron muy hambrientas, la lubina era literalmente un pequeño filete de pescado y 4 tomates crudos y algunas migas de pan, el cordero virtualmente todavía respiraba y era imposible cortarlo. Cuando algunos miembros del grupo solicitaron cocción adicional, simplemente la reemplazaron con otra pieza de cordero sin cocer. Los postres fueron un poco mejores, aunque la torta de polenta con la que pudiste construir una casa fue muy difícil. Encima de eso, tener que solicitar anteojos limpios porque estaban sucios. No es lo que esperas para una habitación y un menú caros! ! ! Vergüenza como se veía hermosa desde el exterior.

An amazing evening, wonderful venue and great food all enhanced by the first class service provided by Luigi! We will 100% be returning!

Requested a reservation at 8pm. They said they could do 7.30pm, but agreed 8pm. On arrival, restaurant more or less empty but they sat us directly next to another couple so we could hear them and vice versa. The restaurant was thereafter never more than half full! Onion soup starter was lovely but quiche starter was cold and bland. Dressed crab and chips was so dry I didn’t finish it. Plaice Goujons about as exciting as a couple of fish fingers. Won’t return. No surprise the restaurant never filled up, on a Friday night! Staff friendly and efficient though.

Great Sunday Roast and Crete Brûlée coupled by an awesome service by Lukas. Definitely will be coming back for more.

Great venue with food to die for at prices that won't break the bank but be prepared to feel like you've indulged. The smell of fantastic food hits you when you walk in and makes you immediately want to start eating.

Four of us visited today (Mother's Day) to celebrate my friend's birthday. Luigi looked after us and offered great service, which matched the equally wonderful food offerings. Soup of the day was roasted red pepper - full of flavour, then there was the French market table - oh my! Charcuterie, seafood, breads, pickles (the courgette was particularly good), sauces and garnishes. All four of us opted for roast beef to follow - we all chose to have it pink, and it was very tender. The vegetables came separately and were perfectly cooked, not in the slightest bit overdone. Good roast potatoes, and lovely airy Yorkshire puds. Plentiful gravy and - when requested - good, hot horseradish sauce. My pud was creme brulee - creamy with just the right amount of crispy caramelised topping. My friend's cheese looked good too. All in all, a lovely experience - we also got champagne and a little L'Occitane gift for each of the women, as it was Mother's Day (no proof of motherhood required, which was just as well!). My favourite place for Sunday lunch :)

Did not disappoint fabulous Valentine menu and great staff- my favourite place in Brighton. We were upgraded to a gorgeous big room very quiet and very clean. We took the special the Valentine special deal which proved well worth the money. Will do again if it continues to make this offer.

Our daughter gave us a gift voucher at Christmas for this restaurant and today we decided to use it. We arrived at 1pm and our coats taken, we then sat down and were given our menu's. We did not realise that it was a four course set menu, however we decided a long leisurely lunch would be lovely.

Certainly not the cheapest venue in Brighton but if it that something special that you are looking for then go no further. A very wide selection of drinks available served with competent and professionalism in very comfortable surroundings. Small bites or more substantial meals are all available. Be mindful that this place is popular and can get busy. In warmer weather there is a 'sun-trap' terrace

Nice evening with dinner for 6 people in the Bistro. There was an issue with the service that was quickly and efficiently sorted by Luigi the Assistant Manager who did a great job in getting the evening back on track...good to see that customer service is alive and well here.

I have been here several times. On the last time we went for a Valentines meal. My food was burnt. I sent it back but it came back again with a message that it wasn't burnt at which point I gave up all hope and decided to avoid this place. My partner couldn't eat her food. The bar area seems to be frequented by travelling sales reps who make a lot of noise. On previous occasions the food was definitely better, the service is generally good.

We have just had an excellent meal at Hotel du Vin Bistro. The service was superb. The staff made so much effort to help us celebrate my mother's 99th birthday. We were greeted with a glass of champagne, and were given a complimentary desert complete with candles and a personalised message. The entire waiting staff joined us in singing Happy Birthday. It made the day very special for her. I cannot praise the staff enough. In particular Luca who made all the arrangements.

En lugar de sándwiches de dedo, había otras sabrosas golosinas estilo canap y también había una buena selección de pastelería dulce. No me interesaban los trozos de fruta seca en el relleno de macarrón, pero esa es probablemente mi preferencia personal. La decoración y la música de fondo era agradable y relajante, y no nos sentimos presionados.

Arrived and staff were courteous. We were offered a table right next to the check in desk when the room was almost empty. So we had to take the initiative and ask for a nicer table. Lady was courteous and efficient but no warmth. Nice glass of champagne and then nicely presented tea arrived and we were told to eat the scones quick as they were warm ( before the savouries with champagne ??). Savouries were nice but personally a mini quiche is not to my taste, would have preferred a nice sandwich. The plates were not changed so ended up eating cakes with taste of smoked salmon. We were not asked if everything was ok. Choice of tea is extensive but too many fruity types, no Assam or Lapsang Suchong. That to my mind is missing the point of traditional afternoon tea. Scones are massive and cold by the time we got round to them. So in summary the food offering does not quite hit the spot and the service is more of a process than a customer centric experience.

Staying overnight on a DB&B; we ate in the Bistro and elected from the set menu, which had surprising good choice. We both choose the Mackerel starter which was delicious. I had the the Venison and beetroot pie, a fantastic dish that was absolutely delicious served with real thick cut chips that were almost as big as roast potatoes. All finished off with a huge apple crumble that we had to share. Excellent food and service.

Excellent service from a lovely Waitress who went out of her way to ensure we had a very enjoyable time. The Table d'hote menu - included in our room rate - is incredibly good value for money if you like what is on it.The wine is very good but quite expensive.

The French restaurant within Hotel du vin is lovely with an unpretentious menu serving all the French classic dishes. Very reasonably priced too. The well stocked bar is also very good and serves a mean cocktail

Had the misfortune to have Christmas Lunch in the Hotel Du Vin Dining Room. We arrived exactly on time and were given our included glass of champagne and told to wait in the bar until called. After 25 minutes we got the impression we had been forgotten and only on enquiry were we shown to our table. Unfortunately we were given a table close to the door to the bar which was left open. From there we could hear the piped music on the bar and the different music in the dining room.

Had a family Xmas lunch here in Dec 2018.

Friendly staff but often had to ask twice or more. It was Xmas week so that might have had something to do with it.

Very enjoyable 4 course meal today. Great selection of courses. Fish course was very enjoyable. Good service and ambience. Friendly staff. First visit on family recommendations. We will certainly go back for another visit.

This was there “Traditional English breakfast” it was awful, the waitress was clueless, got the order wrong twice, and after asking for another pot of coffee we left after a 20 min wait. The restaurant was almost empty, so it’s not like they were rushed.

We booked for a celebration family Christmas lunch, including 1 vegan and 1 gluten free guest. At the time of booking, the restaurant said this was no problem. We mentioned our preferences again when confirming the booking, and again when we arrived. It still took the waiter by surprise.

I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past but not for some time and I have to say was disappointed in the food this time and I would return based on that experience. It was mid week and for friends birthday . For the standard of food it was extremely over priced . Shallot tarte Tartin with goats cheese .. the goats cheese was just a very small slice on top which once cooked was almost non existent . It looked like it had been thrown on the plate . Followed by sea bass which looked very bland , small and didn’t really taste of anything even though there was a sauce as an accompaniment I didn’t go for pudding as had been disappointed by my previous courses. I thought it may have been me .. but someone else in the party was also of the same opinion who had chosen a different main meal to be . Overall disappointing and wouldn’t return . Much better restaurants for the same price in the area

Carrot and parsnip soup so Salty I couldn’t eat it, the same with my friends fish(surely food should be tasted to check the seasoning is correct!)

We asked at around 6pm on a Saturday if there were a table free - we hadn't booked. There were just a few diners present at the time. A man came over looked at us up and down and said - Sorry all tables are booked.

We had a lovely lunch here when we stayed. The staff were attentive, the lunch menu was just right. The selection of different wines was incredible. We even met the sommelier later on in the day whose knowledge was amazing.

I visited with 3 couples recently and it was so disappointing, if your going to charge £28 for a ribeye steak then it should be succulent and tender not sinewy and tough .

I’d seen Hotel du Vin mentioned in an article about nice places to have afternoon tea in Brighton so I booked a spot for a very special family occasion.

Myself and 3other couples had dinner here last night and a disappointing meal it was . The menu reads lovely but sadly this restaurant cannot deliver.

Fuimos aquí para el cumpleaños de un amigo. El restaurante tiene mala acústica y era muy ruidoso, la comida era muy normal teniendo en cuenta el precio, mi pan de hamburguesa estaba quemado. Compraron 2 dulces pero luego olvidaron el resto y tuvimos que quejarnos dos veces para obtener los otros 8. Así que al final llegaron más de 30 minutos después de los dos primeros. Popped in for a drink and a cheese board on 27th October afternoon as the pub part next door advertised as being open, closed about three months ago, apparently. The serving staff didn’t understand or have any clue about the menu on offer or if the wines advertised were available and had to be asked to go and enquire. Half the beers “weren’t able to be sourced”, although I can get them in Tesco! Cheese board was unimaginative and £12 for one person. It wasn’t presented very nicely, on a plate with a knife and fork. Wine was about £8 for a 125ml glass. Specialist beers weren’t served in the correct glasses,, with a, different brand name on my husbands glass to the expensive bottled beer being consumed. Not what I’d expect. This type of show, in my experience, tends to be the result of poor management.

Four of us for afternoon tea we arrived late but had called ahead as due to a seafront protest!

Had a business meeting there today. Awful service. The meeting room was right next to the restaurant so was noisy as the staff prepared for lunch. Refreshments were served late.

Having read some of the reviews on here, I wasn’t sure what to expect from our dinner. But I was so pleasantly surprised that I wanted to leave a review.

We dined at the bistro on Bank Holiday Monday and enjoyed another good dinner. The service was friendly although they were a bit stretched and need a manager in the room to coordinate activities. Several guests were left standing at the entrance to the bistro unattended... they should do better here. The food quality was good however we had the calves liver which was really tasty and portions are always generous here. Why H&S; dictate that a customer cannot have calves liver cooked ‘pink’ I cannot comprehend... any explanation would be welcome. We will return for sure but the Restaurant needs to watch staffing levels.

The hotel du vin really needs to review its standards of service. The restaurant was not very busy but still the service was very poor. Waited 35 minutes after main courses had been cleared before able to attract attention to order anything else. Such poor service just can’t be justified.

We went for Sunday lunch yesterday and I just wanted to say what an enjoyable experience it was. The staff were without exception friendly and professional and the lunch was excellent - good quality and a good choice for a reasonable price. The only very small criticism is that a larger portion of vegetables with the roast woud have been preferred for the four of us rather than so many potatoes. In all it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience which we will definitely repeat.

Had high hopes & expectations based on other people’s recommendations and reviews. The starter buffet was amazing but the main course was well under average. The chicken was dry and potatoes not very well cooked and “old” The Yorkshire was burnt and was presented with a 2nd burnt offering as a replacement. Did talk to the waiter about it who said he would talk to the chef-that was the last we heard of it! The beef was amazing as was desert, just a shame about the rest. I’m hoping that this was due to arriving at 3pm but standards should be consistent.

Overall we have visited here before so we were happy we got a table on pride evening when everything else was booked. Now we know why! The service is very lacking and not attentive. We had to specifically request a wine list and then get the attention of the staff to order it. We then had to send the mussel starters back due to them being gritty, we were informed we could have these deducted from the bill and another starter on the house. We chose prawns and mushrooms, the prawns were bland and lacking flavour, however the mushrooms were nice. For the main course we had the Chateaubriand which compared to other restaurants was average (if that). The best thing about the food was the carrots!!! Overall would not recommend and wish we had read the trip advisor reviews before hand. Poor service and disappointing food for the hefty price tag!

Lovely food, really well cooked. But good food also needs to be follows up by good staff and service.

Service is horrendous, food not good at all and overall a really disappointing experience. We originally wanted to eat at the ivy but they were fully booked, we asked for there recommendation and they told us to eat here- we shouldn’t of listened ! We were all gutted we came, it was our first night in Brighton and it was wasted on an awful meal...

Visited here with some friends for lunch. They were not busy at all however the service was so painfully slow. It took ages to order our drinks and then to get their attention to order food. The drinks and food took ages even though we were the only ones in the place. The waiter was not friendly in the least and didn't make us feel welcome.

Must say I agree with other reviewers on the inactiveness of this restaurant...

Great restaurant, good quality food; let down by ineffective and mediocre service. This was my first visit to this particular restaurant, I have been many many times to the Tunbridge Wells restaurant. Mediocre service is a common theme in both restaurants.

Went for lunch in the Bistro with friends, who had booked a table. Nice relaxed ambience in the place which is a positive. Service was quite slow, especially the drinks menu, and drinks order which seemingly took an age to arrive. Quite a varied menu, and food service was ok. Food was enjoyable, but about fair to the prioce. There are better places to eat in Brighton.

This looks good, with part of the bistro in a pretty courtyard, nice decor and promising classic menu. BUT it took ages t0 be served and though the starters were fine, the main courses were all overcooked. The server did ask if everything was OK but just after we were served, when we hadn't really tried anything. We had been before when the food was fine, so maybe it was a different chef. We did say we weren't happy later (none of us finished our meals), didn't want a dessert (it was nearly 3 hours after we arrived) and didn't want to pay the service charge. At this point I would have expected a manager to come and see what the probem was, but no-one came to inquire. I also wrote to Hotel du Vin the next day, thinking to give them time to deal with my complaint before posting a negative review but 10 days later I have only had an acknowldgement of my email, in spite of the promise that "a member of staff would be in touch ..." So, lack of customer care as well as poor food. Or fur coat but no knickers.
