Great coffee & food at this lovely independent cafe, situated near to the stray and to town on Cold Bath Road. It’s so friendly and has a really welcoming atmosphere (even if, like me, you don’t cycle!) There are so many cafes to choose from in Harrogate, but this is my favourite - hands down!

We visited Harrogate last week and popped into Prologue Cafe on Cold Bath Road. What a lovely spot to enjoy people watching! Tables outside and very attentive, welcoming staff. The coffee and cake was perfect and just what we needed. The lunch menu looked lovely too and not over priced. We will definitely recommend to others and be back again soon!

As cyclists ourselves we always stop here to look in the shop and have a drink in the cafe whist visiting Harrogate. However on this occasion I was slightly disappointed. After realising the Peroni was out of date I took it back in the glass and the remaining peroni in the bottle and pointed this out the member of staff. “Sorry about that” was her response. No “do you want a replacement or your money back” which was quite a shame for such a lovely place.

Prologue is one of my favourite cafe's in Yorkshire. I stop off here on a regular basis for a refuel or even if I am just out in Harrogate. The selection of drinks and food is always good and the service from the staff is always spot on. They also do events for cycling and the eye candy of Bikes and Accessories are a must for any cyclist!

Cycle networking meeting great food and drinks with friendly service in the cafe. Bike was making an odd squeak and the mechanics did a great job looking at it straight away and diagnosing the issue offering a short and long term solution. A big thank you for great service.

Prologue is a wonderful place. Most Sunday mornings my friends and I appear there sweating, muddy and Lycra clad to avail ourselves of the teacake and coffee. Our appearance may churn the stomachs of our own wives but we are always made to feel welcome in Prologue. The coffee, for me, is a little strong but that’s a small gripe. The cycling exotica on display from Colnago, Cervélo, Parlee, Bianchi and others more than compensates for this. We sit dreaming of how many of our children we’d need to sell to acquire such machines whilst knowing that they wouldn’t make us ride any faster. And then we head home feeling a little happier.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I have visited Prologue a number of times over the last 4 years, the latest just last month, and as a local and a member of the cycling community who works with professional cyclists; I have to say this is the most gloomy and uncomfortable place to visit, the staff are the main problem, there is an air of superiority about them and smugness. I've taken a number of cycling friends there who were interested in seeing what the place had to offer. All came out felling like they weren't welcome or good enough to be in there, so much so they didn't want to stay for coffee and cake. So I guess I can only review on half of the 'experience'. Harrogate is crying out for a welcoming bike shop with enthusiastic staff, sadly this isn't it. The stock range is ok, some good quality brands, but it's in a very cramped space with the rest given over to the cafe area. Wonderful location close to The Stray and on the popular Cold Bath Road. Style over content. I will still attempt to visit the shop in the hope they will prove me wrong... it is my local shop after all.

I love this cafe! We always make sure we visit when visiting Harrogate. The coffee is excellent and you can buy a bag to take away for home use. The menu offers a good selection and there is always an impressive cake selection. Although the cyclists seem to snap them up at weekends and I don't blame them! The staff give great customer service. On a sunny or warm day the elevated outside seating area in my opinion offers one of the best places in Harrogate to watch the world go by.

We use Prologue regularly after our Saturday and Sunday morning bike rides. Good coffee, great cakes, lovely, healthy snacks and awesome protein shakes that actually taste nice! (cookies and cream). Always friendly with a good cycling related buzz.

Food was nice enough but on the expensive side and not much to choose from. Truly miserable staff that begrudge having to step away from a backroom laptop to actually greet or serve anyone.

Being huge cycling fans, we were keen to visit. The coffee and cakes were ok. Staff not particularly welcoming and there were two young girls who were unsupervised and running around, the mess they were making was most off putting and not at all relaxing!!! Such a shame, but this spoilt it for us.

The cafe is part of Prologue Cycling and whilst you are inside you are surrounded by bike stuff as it's part of the shop, however it's not intrusive and isn't a problem for non-cyclists.

I'm staying in Harrogate for two weeks and have visited Prologue on recommendation from a friend. The cafe sells amazing cake and coffee, there's a great shop and all supported by great staff who can't do enough for you, gave me a brilliant route as I was new to the area and it didn't disappoint. I'll be visiting here on a daily basis whilst in Harrogate :)

I'd heard about this place from a cyclist friend - cyclists always know where the best cake is and this didn't disappoint. I had a slice of the huge chocolate and lemon cake (in the Prologue colours) which was moist, chocolatey and lemony without being sickly, and my husband had the chocolate orange slice, which also got a thumbs up. The staff were friendly and helpful, spending time chatting to us and asking for feedback, and sitting outside in the sun was lovely. Great relaxed feeling - we would recommend it and will definitely be back.

Prologue crosses the divide between being a 'local' for the cycling community and a welcoming café for everyone else. There's a terrific selection of (very generous) cakes, sandwiches and other treats whilst its location just off the tourist honeypot of the Montpellier Quarter means it's a great place to sit outside when the sun's out. If it's not, the relaxed, eclectic and uncluttered interior is equally as good.

Loved Prologue last Saturday, sun was shining and went in for tea and cake. The staff are very friendly and make time to chat which gives it a more personal touch. Lots of my friends have gone and although some are not cyclists they really enjoy the fabulous sweet treats on offer. I know it's going to be a massive success in Harrogate. Looking forward to my next visit.

Prologue is a fantastic cycle cafe and shop. It boasts simply some of the best coffee and cake in Harrogate which makes a pre, post or during ride stop revitalising and enjoyable. The staff provide a top service and really make you feel part of the experience allowing you to chill and enjoy some cycling on the widescreen tv's at the same time. Fresh gels and sports drinks provide emergency top ups to get you on the way for a great ride.

This place will undoubtedly do well with the cyclists stopping for a drink, but there's stiff competition on Cold Bath Road for the cafe and unless they sort the service out they'll suffer.

Visited on a sunny Saturday lunch. Food was excellent. Fresh crab soup and warm baked bread was brilliant. Fish pie superb and Baked Alaska to finish rounded it off so well. Sat in garden for coffee. So calm and welcoming. Location, food choice and service was very professional, personal and friendly.. Will definitely make a return visit even at 150 mile round trip from Sunderland. Amazing ice cream. Always plenty of staff working and all very nice and pleasant. Place is very clean and tidy. Plenty of inside and outside seating. Also nice big car park. Ice cream portions are very generous ( no tiny scoops here brymor!! ) and good choice of flavours which changes regularly. Dad and I stopped for lunch today. They only have sandwiches and toastie, sausage rolls and cakes We had toasties and they were the best toasties we have had. Loaded with ham and cheese and mine with cheese and onion. Nicely presented with a lovely fresh side salad and coleslaw. 2 toastie and 2 hot drinks for under £20.00. The hot chocolate was nice and hot and not too sweet. I highly recommend going here for an ice cream or a toastie.
