Priory restaurant in West Oxfordshire

Lovely place for good wholesome soup and food… very helpful happy staff . The quality of the food is superb and the quantity is as expected Would visit again if in Burford

Burford was heaving on a warm Sunday afternoon and definitely overrun with cars. But we were able to park in the free car park only a few hundred metres from the High Street and we immediately found the Priory Cafe. We sat in their courtyard with cold drinks and very nice warm cheese scones. They had quite a big menu including all day breakfast as well as some very nice looking cakes.

A great place to have a coffee and a toasted teacake. Varied menu and nice selection of cakes and flapjacks, brownies etc. Lovely surroundings and superb tea gardens at the back. Very friendly staff who made us very welcome and first class loos.

We visited for lunch today and were so warmly welcomed. The ambience is cosy and relaxed. Great menu choices including vegetarian and gluten free. The portions are generous. Would highly recommend a visit and we'll definitely be back 😊!

A a tour guide I travel a lot and use a lot of cafes/restaurants. The Priory in Burford is always a favorite stop for lunch. Service is always immaculate and the menu is varied and good value. I very much enjoy the egg mayo sandwich and the mushrooms on sourdough toast. Downside is that it can get busy and it's pretty cramped inside but in the summer months there is an excellent garden eating area.

Super breakfast as always. Cannot fault this Tearooms for quality and service. Will return on my next visit when in the area

My wife had a cheese scone for lunch and said it was very nice. My soup with a strong chilli hit and a couple of slices of bread (only one butter) was tasty. Service was friendly and the space we were in was cozy.

It was a pleasure to meet Deb on arrival, very friendly and explained everything to us, our one bedroom en-suite apartment exceeded expectations, compact but very comfortable for two people. Perfectly situated on the high street. We ordered a fantastic veggie Breakfast in the adjoining tea rooms. We would highly recommend The Priory for their food, friendly service and accommodation. Thank you Deb for looking after us. We loved our stay and hope to visit again one day.

Stayed overnight last night. Couldn't fault it. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was particularly well appointed. Every last thing had been thought of. Clean warm and comfortable. Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a luxurious stay in a modest place in a delightful town.

Stayed at 1 of the garden bedrooms at short notice due to booked accommodation being unavailable. Room small but extremely clean and comfortable with everything provided for a short stay. Deb went out of her way to help us in a difficult situation. Will definitely stay again as reasonably priced and perfectly located on High Street.

Stayed here on a 4 day break in the Cotswolds. The photos on their website do not do the rooms justice. Yes they are small but so comfortable, cosy, clean and good value for money. Easy access through a side door when the cafe wasn’t open and it was so quiet and even the nearby church bells didn’t disturb us. The rooms don’t come with breakfast but this can be purchased, along with other meals with a 20% discount for guests in the cafe. Again, good value for money and very tasty. Would certainly recommend.

Glad we stopped for lunch, nice sandwich menu spicy falafels were lovely, nice coffee and great service. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Third time we’ve visited for a Sunday morning breakfast on the way to the nearby Cotswold Wildlife Park. Both previous occasions faultless but this occasion was particularly good. Bacon and sausages in particular top notch. Great little place.

I visited today with my family and a (small) dog. We have been here a few times with our pet. Usually when it's warmer and have been in the rear garden. Due to how cold it was outside we sat inside. I ordered some hot drinks. I asked to pay for my drinks and my cake when I ordered (that's fine) and to take my cake back to my table. No quibble. The member of staff asked other customers that had recently seated that 'you have to wait' in a rude voice. The drinks arrived, the member of staff saw our dog and said they're not a pet friendly establishment in a rude voice. I said we have been here a number of times and always been welcomed. She said that's untrue. I was going to request a refund because of being displeased. I didn't want to argue and asked for the hot drinks to be put in a takeaway cups and the cake in a box. When she returned she said she's been working in the coffee shop for the last 9 years in a rude voice and then changed her stance on the coffee shop being pet friendly. It's pet friendly at the front and rear garden. Why have you now changed your stance when I said we previously sat in the rear garden? Terrible customer service, absolutely rude and the drinks had no flavour. Maybe this was lost in the cardboard cups they are served in? Disappointed with the customer services from the lady considering I have been here for the last 10 years!

We had just arrived in burford after a few hours journey And needed a coffee and sandwich and wow what a great place We sat outside for a spot of people watching:-) The sandwich was sourdough with bacon Brie and cranberry Probably one of the best l have had! Definitely recommend

Met our son in Burford as it's halfway between where we both live. Had coffee first of all, then went back for lunch. Very friendly staff. We all had Brie, bacon and cranberry sandwiches. Delicious, with loads of filling. Lots of like minded people dropping in while we were there. Very clean toilets outside at the back on way to outdoor seating area.

Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Portions always good! Clean and nicely decorated. Some nice choices of ice-cream too. We keep coming back, so that really says it all.

We stopped here for brecy , really nice and attentive staff but the breakfast was average .. the eggs were hard on flabby toast and the bacon was like tubber very overcooked . Sorry .. really good coffee though but we will come back as the staff were so nice

We stayed overnight here to visit the Cotswold Wildlife Park. Lovely place - rooms are small but very clean - room could do with a small table for coffee/tea facilities and maybe slightly bigger glasses for water. We had breakfast in the tea rooms and as a coeliac the gluten free options were very good - pile of toast, scrambled egg and bacon - delicious and a perfect cup of tea would definitely recommend. Also 20% off the bill if you have stayed over.

Overnight stay. Room extremely small but just about large enough. Rooms 1-5 are terraced chalet style rooms and ours had an en-suite bathroom . Only one bedside cabinet as room too small for one each side. Bed was very uncomfortable- felt every movement of partner....

Seems to be the only cafe in Bourton that opens before 10am on a Sunday. Thus very busy on Sunday moning so service not rapid. Good food. Great Hot Chocolate with Cream & Marshmallows.

We stopped at this great little cafe for an early lunch today. The service was great, very quick & friendly, and the food was really tasty - generous portions for a fair price.

Silly things make a good place great. One of my bug bears is cheap tissues with cutlery that don't actually absorb grease (not that the food was greasy it wasnt). Well....the tissues at the priory are soft and absorbant and the food is amazing and the bedrooms are lovely. Coffee is outstanding. Bacon was thick back with crispy rind. egg was fresh and perfectly cooked. Hash brown was crispy and delicate. The sausage.....perfect. and ...actual BUTTER on toast not that margarine stuff. And thick proper granary toastCould the place improve... probably.......should it improve GOD NO because its so lovely and nice. The owner is here and you can see his pride. The staff are lovely and friendly. As you can tell....I enjoyed being here.

We stayed for one night for my birthday. A very warm and friendly welcome. The room was on the smaller side but clean, comfortable and well appointed. The only tiny issue was that the tiled floor was a little bit cold on a rainy October night. Breakfast was hot and delicious and the portions were very generous. Very good value for money and would definitely stay again. Thank you for making my birthday a very pleasant one.

The shop is on High Street at the centre of the town. The staff was kind and very helpful, waiter served our coffees fast with a smile on her face.

Went here as we had visited before, ordered two ham and onion sandwich and an avocado and poached egg on sour dough with three coffees.We had to order inside due to the current restrictions, however a nice touch we were charged the take out prices. Service was swift and it came presented as a take away.Would definitely recommend and return.

Came here for breakfast and sat inside - very nice cappuccinos and huge pork & leek sausage sandwiches on delicious bread. Friendly service and although we didn’t have any, the home made cakes and scones looked great. The avocado on sourdough with poached eggs was average. There’s a garden out back and some seats on the front. Very clean and covid rules followed closely. Recommended.

We took lunch in this small and friendly restaurant and were warmly welcomed by Michelle. Our order was taken after only a few minutes and drinks arrived quickly afterwards. Our lunches of Piri Piri chicken in a baguette and spicy falafel were each accompanied by lovely salad and side dishes. All at a cost of just over £21 which was excellent value.

This little place is in great location as it’s near restaurants and quaint little shops, and you can go for a run up and down the hill down to the fields where friendly cows await. The rates were affordable, and met our budget needs. The rooms were clean and the garden is so pretty. They serve hearty breakfasts that can keep you well fuelled for your morning activities.

Just had late lunch here, sadly we left disappointed. On entering the waitress was standing in the cafe, we asked if still serving food, she took a while to reply, but said yes, so we sat at a table. We ordered drinks & food. Drinks arrived, then the food. The waitress said she would go & get the cutlery. This took a good few minutes. As our food was hot, the time waited meant the food started to go cold quickly. I ordered a jacket potato with piri piri chicken, this was served on a cold plate, with this & the wait for cutlery the chicken had started to cool & was only just warm by the time I started to eat. I have to say the food served was very nice.The waitress barely spoke to us. There was also an uncomfortable atmosphere. We couldn’t put our finger on why, but we left disappointed with the whole experience and have decided we will not return. Last night we ate in The Royal Oak & had a totally opposite experience!

We took refuge from the rain and enjoyed a warm welcome, a delicious cream tea for myself, and a toasted teacake for my wife. The food is of excellent quality and beautifully presented; the staff seek to put the customer first - in our case, providing extra butter on request!

What a comfortable and delightful place. Food was fantastic, well priced and timely. Priory claims to have the best coffee and certainly proved that claim. Highly recommended.

A good night in the heart of Burford. Warm welcome, adequate size room, shared loo and shower, beautiful garden. Rooms to rear of building so not noisy at all. Free o/n parking on street or at nearby car park. Excellent breakfast

Our room was very small, they give you a fold up chair as there is not enough room for a proper chair. Our bed squeaked and made loud noises, and is bad nead of replacing as beds are not that expensive they should be replaced more regularly. After not long having spinal surgery I was so glad we only stayed one night. The garden is very pretty and the courtyard very sweet. Our breakfast was plentiful and was very yummy. The staff were very helpful. The village is very quaint and worth a visit. If you are going to stay at the Priory, I suggest you take an overnight bag and not a suitcase, as you have to street park and the room is very small.

Had a very relaxed cream tea in the garden area though to the rear, we have dined here before so tried a cream tea as a treat - well worth it - will visit again when get down from the North

First time visit to Burford, menu looked inviting. Didn’t have to wait long for service or for food. There is a lovely garden too. settled on the roast beef, the steak and ale pie looked inviting too. Would return.

We did a circular walk from Burford on Mothering Sunday and were all feeling hungry when we arrived back. There were four of us and a dog so we ate in the pleasant sheltered garden.

The food was great & the staff friendly. It was busy & we appreciate that when food is cooked fresh to order it can take longer, but it was all slow & there was even a long wait for our drinks. This may have been a bad day, as I don’t see other reviews mentioning this & we’d go back. Plenty to eat & a high standard.

this sounds a bit like a record playing over and over again, but once again I can only compliment this restaurant. We have been eating here for, i don't know how long but but i do know that every time we eat there we enjoy both the atmosphere and of course the food.The staff are always friendly and the food is excellent, if you are looking for fine dining this is not for you however if you want a warm and friendly atmosphere and traditional cooking at a sensible price then the Priory is the place to find, once you do, like my wife and I you will go back again and again.

Me and my boyfriend spent the weekend in Burford, not having a huge amount of time we got up quite early to go for breakfast and came across the priory the first morning and ended up going back the next morning as well as for lunch! The lady was so welcoming and lovely! There was a lot of variety and the interior of the restaurant matched the Cotswold village perfectly which is exactly what we wanted whilst being in the Cotswolds. For lunch we 100% recommend the creamy mushrooms and crusty bread!!!

Was visiting Burford with a couple of friends. The plan had been to have a mooch on the high street but the weather took a turn so we popped in here. And we were delighted that we did! We were in time to order from the comprehensive breakfast menu and treated ourselves to the full English special. It was so good. Freshly prepared, served hot, full of flavour and clearly quality ingredients used. Just great. The setting is a cosy restaurant with wooden furniture. We sat at a window table and there is a window seat bench which was v comfy. Can’t wait to go again!

We have just came back from 3 days staying at the Priory having booked 2 nights the rooms are adequate ours was the one with on suite the place was spotless with all essential items you’d require including towels tea coffee etc and very comfortable with room nice and warm , food is very good we had main meals and the breakfast is superb the largest one we’ve ever had on top of everything else followed up by copious amounts of tea and latte coffee plus toast supplied with separate pots of jam and marmalade the staff are a delight where there always checking to find if alls ok we have been here last year as well and enjoyed our stays so would def recommend for short stay

I've lost count of the number of times we've been here. It's just perfect. Cosy atmosphere. Great service and the Priory Breakfast is just the best. There are tables ourside for the warmer weather. If you're in Burford try it you'll love it too
