We’ve had takeaways from Prema before but this weekend it was my husband’s birthday and we decided to introduce our friends to her amazing food. It was so fresh and bursting with flavour. The quality of the meat excellent and they were bowled over by the meal.

The lovely Prema catered a dinner party for my husband's birthday at our home. She arrived with t all the equipment and ingredients for the menu we had chosen, including canapés, starters, mains and dessert. The food was absolutely delicious, including great curries, roti, home made chutneys and chilli sauce. Our friends loved it. Prema and Kate were so helpful, professional and utterly lovely. They catered vegetarian and gluten free options and kept the drinks flowing too. It was a fabulous evening. Thank you.

We had a take-away meal for 6 with delicious starters and a tasty selection for the main course. We’ll be back for more.

Tonight we had Prema's Friday Night Special: String Hoppers. We chose the meat option and got several string hoppers, some kukui mas (chicken), and Paripu (lentils) - plus pol sambol. WOW!! I think this could be the best meal we've had from Prema. The lentils were great as was the chicken. The string hoppers were awesome. as was the pol sambol. String hoppers, for the uninitiated, are in effect rice noodles. I enjoyed them the last time I was in Sri Lana albeit as breakfast. Prema provided us with both white and red hoppers - such a great. I just love her food.

We have been fans of Prema's food for quite a while and we have made a regular habit of getting a takeaway on Saturday night. She requires you to sign up and get a slot but so far we have not been disappointed. Her food is excellent and of great value. We love her lentils (paripu) and her chicken curry is awesome. We adore her red rice and her pol sambol is amazing.

Seeing all the good reviews on here I was surprised that our lunch yesterday was so average. The starters were ok, salt and pepper squid was lovely. The others were just barely warm. But the pad Thai was not lovely. Gloopy and more tofu than chicken and prawns. I asked for a spicy one but that didn’t happen. Just a gloopy mess of over done noodles.

Initially arrival time was set for 19:35 but delivery was changed for later time of 19:55 but actually delivery was received at 20:12. Chicken was naga :: but not at all spicy , onion Bhaji was stale ( oil smell ) , paratha were too much oil in dough.

We ordered the crispy aromatic duck for two to start. The duck was clearly not cooked fresh, and was a bit tasteless and dry The two curries we ordered were tasty, but my lamb was also dry, tasteless and a bit tough. Again clearly not cooked fresh, and added at the end We wanted to order their signature desert, which was Jasmine sorbet, but although i5 was only 8pm on. Thursday evening, they didn’t have it. Unbelievable!

Our love of maliks is finally over. We have used maliks for 20 years, it was a luxury Indian dining experience at its best. The GX restaurant started declining before Covid but since the pandemic it isn’t the same. We’ve spoken to the owner numerous times and can tell the passions there anymore. After 3 pretty bad experiences at the GX outlet we decided to do a last minute dinner at Cookham. Started off nicely, but then the mains came. My lamb shashlik was very tough and fatty, more like rough mutton, not warm and certainly far from sizzling. 2 other dishes were like warm and it felt like they’d been left around or reheated. They did replace two discuss but by the time they came back, this time piping hot and the lamb swapped for chicken the rice and sides were cold and the other two in the family had finished. The bill came and was £181 - not a penny knocked off which we challenged. Still after reducing to £160 it was a very poor experience and for £160 I’d expect much more. All excuses throughout, no apology (common with the GX branch) and didn’t seem to remotely understand it wasn’t acceptable. Maliks used to use the best quality meat and products, but it seems the love of the owner has gone and with us so has our custom for good. 4 less than great experiences in a row says it all and we won’t ever be returning. Sometimes places change and you have to live on and this is one of those ocassion. The brand seems to have acquired an arrogance and complacency that has no place in hospitality and is now just a below average Indian with luxury prices.
