The staff were lovely, very friendly, plenty of parking round the back. Great atmosphere created by the music and lighting. We had a nice gentleman serve us for our bowling. Paid for 2 games (but he let us play a 3rd on the house). Had a laugh with him. Just an over all nice guy. He helped us get change from the till to so we could play some pool. Will definitely be stopping here again next time we’re in cornwall would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

We went for a 4 night break, advised arriving 3 to 4pm, no one there, waited an hour, young guy turned up, said room 3 top of stairs turn right. My wife in 70s has walking difficulties, I'm 75, no help offered, no welcome, nothing, just walked away, entered room, my wife wanted to go home, room tiny, stained carpet, bathroom even worse, I pacified her and said let's go out and sight see. Had dinner in their bar room, they called it diner? Food very good, bed comfortable, had breakfast, it was okay. Went out for day, came back around 4pm, no one there, went to bowling ally, searched for someone, finely found young man entering kitchen, asked if we could use ally, as it said free for guests, he snapped at me, wait till I'm in door, I went back to my wife and waited, finery he appeared, I asked for lights put on, he snapped, you better pay, I pointed out that we were guests, he snapped, pay or else, I said to my wife, just let's go, we walked out, he flew out of the door behind us and started abusing us verbally, using the F word, my wife said, please don't talk to us like that, he just said, F off, we went to our room and packed our cases, I put them in car and waited for someone from management, when they arrived, I told them what happened, they just said, so what do you want me to do, I said apologise or something, he said nothing, so I said I would like a refund of some nights, he said, talk to whoever you booked through, and walked away. If you like somewhere drab and grubby, unfriendly, and are ready for verbal abuse, go there, if not, then find somewhere decent. None of this is made up, it's honest.

When you're charging £8 per adult and £6 for the kids you at least expect to be able to bowl. After each person (family of 4) took one turn each the lane packed itself in so we were quickly moved to the next lane - fine no issue it happens. But when the next lane ALSO packs in you know its gunna be poor. We had to ask for assistance at least four times before being told to just play as it is. Pins wouldn't come down, some weren't being picked up. We gave up asking for assistance as the staff were too busy watching the football match on the screen and on their mobiles! I get its quiet guys, but come on. We just paid £35 for drinks and one game and it was so pathetic. Wish we hadn't bothered which is such a shame as we like to support local places.

If you are coming here to go bowling don’t bother. The bowling balls kept getting stuck so we had to keep going to the bar to get the guys to help. This took forever to finish a game and took the fun out of it. This place is in desperate need of an upgrade and looks like it hasn’t been touched in over 20 years. The pool tables are slanted and the pool queues are broken. There are benches that collapse when you sit on them. Overall not a good experience

Despite being super busy we were able to book bowling and a table for dinner. The bowling was great fun. Food was hot, good and fresh and most importantly served with a smile. The lady and man ( Dave and Carol I think) were so welcoming and checked if our food was good, if we had a nice time they Engaged kindly to the kids…. This makes for a wonderful atmosphere and would highly recommend.

We attended for a meal with our children due to the decent reviews previously posted. The place felt like it really needed a face-lift inside and there was a stale smell which wasn't very inviting. There was no background noise or music so it felt silent, so much that you knew the people around you could hear everything you said which for us with two children was awkward. Apart from that, the food tasted okay portions were good and it wasn't expensive so for that it was fine. For us it wasn't the dinner out we were looking for but if you're not fussy and just want okay food in a friendly place then it might be for you.

So we stayed at Porth lodge for 2 nights in apartment number 1 and wow, it did not disappoint. The staff were extremely friendly and were willing to go the extra mile for us. We took our 1 year old boxer dog Loki and my oh my he was so very welcome there, not only by the staff but also by other guests staying there. Cornwall is an absolute gorgeous place to visit. There is a beach within like 4 mins walk if that all down hill which we collected a few special shells and stones from. The food was outstanding at the Porth lodge I’d give it a 10/10 the Sunday roast was just Devine!! We were also very surprised how large our apartment was, we didn’t expect a lot with it being dog friendly and only £120 per night but we were so wrong it was massive smelt clean and fresh upon arrival, plenty of towels, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits , soap etc.. in the kitchen there was everything you’d need for a long or even short stay(if you wanted to save money by cooking that is). Plenty of parking also. Our boxer Loki was welcomed in almost every shop and restaurant everyone is just so friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend this gorgeous hotel/accommodation 10/10

We visited here on a summers evening with 4 adults and one small child. We were met with smiles and ordered food and drinks and were placed at a table near a television for the baby. We were even able to get some bowling in before dinner thanks to the friendly staff offering the little one a few games before dinner. Great food and would definitely visit again.

We have been coming here for over 20 years where we usually have a bowling game and meal. We came today, having not been for about a year. Bowling was OK but the bowling balls are in DESPERATE need of replacement as many are pitted and chipped. The food is the biggest let down for us. There were 5 adults and 2 children in the party. 1, my grandson - kids cheeseburger and chips. OK 2 my step grandson - pasta. OK 3, my wife ordered chicken breast with chips, peas and side salad. Arrived without peas and when questioned it seemed like an effort to get some so my wife never had any. 4, my niece ordered pizza. (The menu states that all meals come with chips and a salad. She didn’t get any chips so had to ask for some. The underside of the base was burnt. 5, my daughter ordered spaghetti Bolognese. This was ok. 6, my daughter in law ordered chicken burger and this was ok. 7, I ordered a cheeseburger. When this arrived it had very few chips with it, in fact my grandsons kids meal had more chips than I had. I asked for more and pointed out the pitiful portion I had been given. In addition the cheeseburger was awful. Generic burger made of god knows what in a toasted bun, which was burnt. No salad (lettuce, onion or tomato) in the bun but 2 thin generic cheap cheese slices melted to the underside. We certainly will not be back here to eat anymore. It’s a real shame after 20+ years of coming here. Maybe for bowling but we will be going elsewhere to eat.

Due to bad weather my friend and I decided to take our children bowling here and have Sunday lunch. We were welcomed by a polite lad behind the bar who took our food order and showed us through to the bowling alley. It was quite dark with disco/neon lights which the kids loved. Bowling was fun and by the end of play we were ready to eat. There are two restaurants and we were seated in the ‘posh’ one which we all liked. The roast, served by a really nice friendly waitress, was a good size and tasted great. We were definitely left satisfied but when offered the second course offer of dessert for only £2.70 we couldn’t refuse! After a few games of pool and table football we all left having felt we’d had a lovely afternoon and are all looking forward to returning.

Booked a while ago for a meal with bowls for a group of about 18. Obtained menu in advance that enabled me to pre-order the meals and once we'd finished our bowling game, dinner was quickly served. The staff are always pleasant and friendly here and the meal and bowling deal is reasonably priced. True the bowling alley is showing a bit of wear and the very fit staff need to leap down the lane to fix the machinery at the far end on occasion but always with a smile and it kind of adds to the fun somehow.Am planning to re-book for our next get together in March.

We found this lodge to be comfortable. The rooms were of a good size as was the bathroom/shower, water pressure was low but that was not a problem . Coffee / tea making with biscuits was supplied . The price included a full english breakfast cooked and served by the owners wife . Athough we had a room above the bowling alley and bar we found it not to be noisey and any noise there was finished 11.00 pm . The restruant was very good with a large selection at very good prices so we did not have to tour around in the evening looking for some where to eat . Ample parking in the lodge car park so there is no problem with on road parking.

Porth Lodge is a lovely looking building from the outside.... Inside the bar/ bowling area however is completely different story. We have been a couple of times now for a bowl and a drink and have also visited to eat, each time with the hope that service/ interior will have improved. Such a shame that the bar man clearly does not give a damn about the place or quality of service and slumps on the bar looking like he is about to loose the will to live. The beer tasted off, like the lines hadn't been cleaned. We told the barman, he didn't want to know. Food is very average, averagely priced. Interior needs a good lick of pain/ updating. Toilets are quite shocking. All in all a real shame because this place has the potential to be a real gem but just does not come up to scratch.

Having been here with our family 3 years ago, we visited again as it was a short walk from our holiday rental on Porth Beach. 10 pin bowling, snooker tables etc, means there is a bit of gaming to be had. My husband enjoyed his pint of Padstow Ale and we both had hot food. Not high quality but it isn't that type of place. A hot meal at a reasonable price and comfortable surroundings. Yes, it could do with a refurb or a good lick of paint but peeling/chipped toilet seats is unacceptable. Not everywhere needs to be given a contemporary makeover but there are standards to be had. Good service.

Just had a delightful stay at the Porth Lodge Hotel with my son for 13 nights.... For the fourth year running, This included bed , breakfast and evening meals. The hotel continues to run a relaxed family business with a rolling programme of modernisation throughout the Hotel which is fantastic to see.... The room was beautiful with everything we needed and panoramic sea views. The meals if anything have improved in their variety and taste from an already good place. The hotel offers quality pub food at very sensible prices. After four years and 2 weeks holidaying at the hotel I feel I am in a good position to be able to rate these. The steak is cooked to your personal perfection with a choice of fresh salad and jacket potato or thick cut chips and sauces. The recent addition of a selection of home made soups are just beautiful. The garlic apple and celery I couldn't get enough of. The chicken salad was a favourite of mine and my son loved the homemade lasagne and the spaghetti bolognese. The gammon with egg and pineapple with choice of chunky chips or jacket was also a treat. Home made ham and mushroom tagliatelle and fresh garlic bread was our final meal and this did not disappoint. There were several starters and pudding options all being of very good quality , often home made and a filling portion size for any appetite. The staff and management continue to be personable , friendly and flexible and will do most things within reason to help you enjoy your stay... This includes the cleaners , the waiting staff the cooks the bar staff etc. The meals can be eaten in a selection of locations in the more modern and busy upper area overlooking the bowling and pool tables. Great for the families with children who want a livelier experience and some background modern music, whilst alternatively one can dine in the quieter dining area with a book shelves containing local information, canvases depicting the local area exposed Cornish stone and views outside allowing natural light to flood in. There is also the option during the evening from 7pm apx to dine in the the oldest part of the hotel in the bar/ snug dating back to the 17th century. There are some lovely little areas where you can dine quietly and intimately whilst locals quietly chat , a really lovely atmosphere...... The hotel has so much to offer and has drawn me and my son back for the last four years and gets better and better..... A wonderful place for a romantic meal and a wander down to the beach before settling down in front of the fire in autumn/ winter with a drink of your choice from the bar and listen to classics from the 50/60/70s duke box. There is something here for everyone, only a 15 minute walk into Newquay for a great night out, regular buses to all sorts of destinations, I didn't move my car for 13 days after I arrived and made it to Padstow, walked to Crantock three times, made it to Truro , twice, and the Eden project........Many thanks to everyone Nigel And Joshua :-)

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.
