We booked the Porterhouse Restaurant based on the photos on TripAdviser BUT we were extremely disappointed when we arrived at the restaurant to be told that it is no longer a Steakhouse and has not been a Steakhouse for 2 years!! We however decided to stay for dinner and my husband was pleasantly surprised by the steak. It was tender and cooked to his specification. I had the Beef, ale and mushroom pie which was a bit disappointing. The pastry was very soggy, the broccoli was so overcooked it was basically mush and the new potatoes were very overcooked. One plus was that the cutlery was presented in a sealed packet although the condiments were what we would have had on the table pre-covid. I did see a waitress wiping down the chairs and just changed the table cloth but the condiments were not wiped down If we had a choice, we would not eat here again.

We arrived yesterday for a two night stay, dinner, bed and breakfast deal with travelzoo booked for my birthday. Hotel room really nice but the restaurant service and food is really bad. On arrival at 8.45pm, we, along with most of the restaurant were kept waiting at every step of the service. We booked the deal after reviewing the hotel and restaurant on their website. The menu advertised is not the menu you receive, the advertised menu having a much greater choice of food and photos of steak not as it is presented ie on a board. This I would think is very misleading to potential customers. My husbands meal was total disaster. Starter of crispy whitebait was soggy, far from crisp, which we informed the staff. After finally being served our main course at 9.50, my husband received chilli with a portion of rice he could not even put his fork through. He complained and it was replaced with what must have been a dessert spoon of rice. In the short time it took to return it, I would guess they have just broke through the hard rice on his plate and scooped out the middle, the chill was also not piping hot. At this point most of the customers in the restaurant were making comments as being able to ‘socialise’ with each other as they were having to wait so long to be served food, totally not acceptable. We then complained to the duty manager in the restaurant and then to reception who took down all the details of the complaint and said they would pass it to the manager today. I had sirloin steak and chips which was ok but not brilliant and not presented well. They offered a free glass of wine each, which I said this was not good enough and not the compensation we should be receiving. They said this was just a gesture and the matter would be sorted out today. I informed them it was so bad we would not be eating in the restaurant tonight to experience this again. I have attended the reception this morning to ask for an update on my complaint. I was told there was no manager available to speak to and we were on a 3rd party booking which was paid for. I pointed out that regardless of it being a 3rd party booking or direct with the hotel, this a complaint about the restaurant. I was offered an e-mail address to make a complaint but I have asked for the hotel to contact the relevant manager and for them to contact me. I am now awaiting a response. We will be eating elsewhere tonight. I’m sure there will be many complaints to the hotel and recorded on tripadvisor after yesterday evening

Visited here on a Thursday night, restaurant was busy and had to wait 15 mins for a table which we didn’t mind. When shown to our table we had to wait ages before our order was taken, they were very understaffed. I ordered steak and my husband had the lamb, both were asked for medium and came more medium well but admittedly both dishes were nice, but on the pricey side. Staff were friendly and did apologise for the wait. Would I return, probably not.

Based on the online menu we booked this restaurant for a Birthday dinner. When we arrived we were given a very limited menu where you can choose between having a two or three course. Nothing in terms of choice as we’ve seen online. Zero atmosphere very stiff and quiet. Staff apologised about the menu and we decided to leave, hoping to find somewhere else 8pm on a Saturday night. The Porterhouse is not a steakhouse!!

These are the words uttered by the front desk when we entered the restaurant. Not surprising 6.15 on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was empty. Like many other reviewers we were on the Groupon deal. Thought the server was friendly. The cab sav was very good. Thought the sirloin steaks were OK but nothing special. The thin fries very disappointing. Surely they could source better chips. Place lacked atmosphere even when a few other tables were occupied. Fair to say there are many better restaurants nearby if staying at this hotel.

Very slow service. Seemed to be having a bread roll crisis on the night we visited...bread was being brought out for customers 10 minutes after they had finished their soup! Gammon was tasty...with the 5 chips I was given. Duck leg was well cooked...if a little lacking in flavour. Average meal.

Breakfast was served in this restaurant. As long as you get there reasonably early there was no problem. Queues seemed to build up around 9am. Breakfasts were between 7am and 10am and half hour later at weekends..There was plenty of choice. We had an evening meal on the first night of our stay. The wine we chose was not available but the meals were very nice. The staff too were very friendly and helpful. The only negative thing I would say is that there do not seem to be enough staff to ensure that all the tasks which needed to be done are done efficiently. A lovely setting with some great views.

We booked at this restaurant for a special birthday on Tuesday night having been before and loved it. We downloaded the menu to choose what we were having. Booked our table and when we sat down we were given a menu that was completley different to the porterhouse steak menu. It had a few choices and what we chose was very nice. No mention of the porterhouse steak menu not being available when we booked after all it is called the Porterhouse restaurant so it spoiled the birthday treat. We quite often visit Harrogate but will go elsewhere where we can choose what we want to eat and not be given a 3 course special menu which you can get at most restaraunts

We had a very pleasant dinner our friends the pea soup was excellent and enjoyed by three of us. The other choice was whitebait. Our main courses were varied two of our party had the duck leg, the third member had a pasta dish and I chose the steak. The presentation was was excellent however I had requested that the steak be oozed medium to rare. Disappointingly the steak was more rare than medium. I enjoyed most of the steak but quite a lot was not to my liking so I left it. The experience will not prevent us from using the restaurant again. The staff were good and the bar was excellently stocked. An enjoyable evening.

Let me start with the positives - The exterior of the hotel is beautiful. The restaurant was clean (however not the toilets) and the service was excellent, our server was Sue and she was a real delight. Unfortunately, the biggest let down was the afternoon tea! The bread on the sandwiches were stale so the sandwiches were hard and the fillings boring. The pre made package scones were awful, they even had a bad smell to them. The bought in cakes were tasteless.

The food is very different to what we were use to , some novel twists in the menu, If I had a down item it was the strange tasting potato wedges that come only with the fish and chips described as chunky twice cooked chips ? Excellent variety.

Attached to the cedar court hotel this has to be one of the nicest restaurants ive visited. The food is done to perfection. The thing that stands out for me here is the staff, or I O Professional, polite and very prompt. Very little wait times. We were asked a number of times if we were ready for our main. I will be visiting here again with out without a deal.

We visited this restuarant with Groupon. which provided per couple 2 steaks and a bottle of wine. We decided to have starters. I had whitebait which was good and nicely crispy. My wife had the salmon which she said was fresh and tasty. The steaks which came were good quality lean sirloins. If there was a problem served with no vegetables as such other than one tomato and one mushroom. We had to order vegetables as a side dish. Service from the head waiter and staff was very friendly.

Stayed at the hotel, all staff friendly not a large menu but more than adequate for a few nights. Mrs had salad to start followed by steak followed by tart tartan, I had onion soup followed by chicken wellington -no complaints for either of us, no question we would return if in Harrogate

We had this groupon for steak for two and a bottle of wine. The steak dinner we ordered medium rare and it came out rare. I had to send mine back but my husband didn’t mind his. The tomato and mushroom where cold. And the fries weren’t fully cooked through. The red wine it came with was okay. It needed to breathe for a good 15 minutes. We ordered dessert. Don’t know why but we did. They served the cheesecake with ice cream on a warm slate so it was melted everywhere. I had to keep scrapping it up to avoid spilling off the plate. The cheesecake was mediocre. My husband had the cheese board and the cheddar cheese looked like it had been sitting out for hours. The end was so hardened. The service was kind of slow. But out of the 3 that came to the table there was one very nice girl. Don’t think We will ever come here again.

I took my daughter for a belated birthday dinner knowing that she is a fan of fillet steak. I'd booked through Tastecard (which takes you to the Bookatable website) and although the restaurant didn't appear to have received my booking fortunately it wasn't a drama as the restaurant was relatively quiet.

Sadly nothing really lives up to its promise from the bread (stale) to the main course. Crab cakes were at best OK but rather lacking in crab and overwhelmed by sauce & chillies. Slates do not make up for poor execution.

The food was excellent and the wait staff good, the only negatives were the complete lack of atmosphere and the fact that we booked a table for 7.30pm over the phone but were told when we arrived the restaurant didn't open til 8pm- just a small thing but quite annoying

If you employ only nineteen year old staff, don't train them to interact with their clientele and let them play non-stop screechy Adele at a stupid volume all night, it doesn't matter how talented the chef is. The food here was fine. But the atmosphere was vacuous. Such a shame because it's Harrogate's oldest hotel, and has such a lot of potential. It's clearly being run bu people who need a visit from Alex Polizzi.

Me and my misses when here one night in the off has it had been refurbished and re-branded and it looks very nice. I had the porterhouse steak which was one of the best I've had the misses had the fish which she enjoy, but anyone who likes a great steak that's well aged and full of flavour needs to come to porterhouse 1st class plus they have a great wine list not the normal average over priced stuff!!!!

When it's done well nothing much beats a good steak, and that was the case at Porterhouse. I went with my wife to celebrate my birthday and we had a really enjoyable evening. The food was excellent, the service great and the restaurant itself is very stylish. We will certainly be back.

I had a special experience recently by being treated to Fathers Day lunch at the new Porterhouse Steak restaurant in the Cedar Court Hotel in Harrogate. For the main I shared a Cote de boeuf cooked rare to medium which melted in the mouth and was full of flavour as to be expected from a 38 day aged steak. However delicious as this was, the piece de resistance of the meal was the Whitby Crab cheese cake starter with a ginger biscuit base - this was one of the best dishes I have tasted in over 40 years of travelling all over the world and eating in some very fine establishments. The whole meal was excellent and the service efficient, friendly and relaxed. good luck to this new venture - I will certainly visit again.

The Porterhouse is in a Best Western Hotel, and all the staff, reception, housekeeping, bar, restaurant are so kind and patient, also for not so good English Speakers like me. They explain the local specialties, even the Chef, Mr Clintwood, found the time to answer. The waiters are very professional, one look and they take care of their guests. I loved to stay here for some days. Especially Louis gave 115 % to make every guest feel like a vip. Actually they all give more than usual. everyone here smiles and is very kindly to the guests.

I ordered a crispy chicken burger with bacon when I got home and opened it. I was very disappointed as only got the chicken burger in the bun, no bacon or anything. And my partner got a double cheese burger and he also got no filling. We was very disappointed. We couldn't eat them as very dry.

We called in for drinks recently, I went flying on a hidden step and now I'm limping. First impressions, it needs a lot of attention, the paintwork is chipped and worn in many places and the furniture is a bit worn in some areas. Checked the food menu and even basic choices are a bit pricey and I'm not sure I would eat there anyway?? Drinks we thought are a bit overpriced too? The loos are not pleasant, a bit grubby and smelly, don't think we will be returning. Such a shame it could be a great place, lovely old building but it's not being looked after.
