Great stay at Port of Call for one week in November. Staff very helpful… Jodi for being helpful and smiling every day - great asset to the resort!!! Also Bernard for helping out booking the full day excursion (recommend this) and the others too. Resort is situated next to a good beach area… was better than others at the time as there were cranes at Windsong. There a golf cart for trips to beach for those who don’t want to walk. Close to good restaurants too and jetty is close by for excursions. Pool is clean and perfect too. Bar is decent. Breakfast is basic but essentials are there. Tips: Check out the Fish Fry, book on Caicos Charters full day, hire a car from the car hire in front of resort, visit Sapodilla beach and have fun!

Lovely friendly little traditional pub near the Downs in Bristol. It's almost got a country pub vibe to it. Have had a few drinks here over the years and had the Sunday roast today which was really great. Fresh meat, great veggie options and a great spread of veg served in the middle for all. Half portions are really great too for those with small appetites.

Lovely knowledgeable passionate young (to me) folk run this pub. Great ales and really good food. Sumptuous home made bar snacks (big sausage rolls, scotch eggs and other yummies). Log burner in the winter, secluded little patio garden with distant views of Ashton court. Probably the best roast dinner in the area. It's about as close as Bristol gets to the feel of a proper English country pub. (Now forget everything you've read here because we want to keep it a secret for ourselves ;-) ) Update Sep24. I found a flaw, went for dinner on a weekday and had the sausage and mash and it was really not good. Edible, filled a hole. Hoping this is just a bad day.

I charming traditional Bristol public house. Service was with a smile, the vibe is warm and welcoming, locals and passers by. The beers and ciders were good and offered something for everyone. I didn't try the food so can't comment, but I'd definitely go back. Recommended.

I’ve been to this pub a few times, but sadly not eaten there. It’s a charming, tucked away pub with a great selection of ales, ciders and other drinks. Definitely carries the ‘old pub’ vibe which has seeped into the walls. A great beer garden round the back makes a nice place to hang out on a summers afternoon.

This is a great pub for smokers because the garden has a shelter with heaters. All of the bar staff have been nothing short of charming (and very comely) and we like the home made sausage rolls on the bar! Wowzers! A great little pub with a brilliant atmosphere. Just makes you wonder about who has visited in times gone by. Easy parking on the downs and a short walk from the water tower.

I have been a number of times on different days. Quality of the beer is always excellent, particularly the TT Landlord. They have a good range of ciders, lagers and other beers, some on guest so rotate. Summer drinks and cocktails are currently available - there is a wide range of gins, rums and whiskies if spirits are your preference. A broad food menu is offered, and recently they extended the kitchen offering to include Monday evenings. There is a two-for-1 burger offer on Mondays 5-7pm, with meat, vegetarian and vegan options. On Tuesdays there is a steak night. I ordered the ribeye, which was generous, cooked perfectly and came with a squid option. Delicious. The sides were hand cut chips, coleslaw and a salad. For lighter fare there are rolls (sausage, vegan, vegetarian) available, along with small plates on the menu. The hand-made scotch egg is worth trying. There is a garden out the back, which has a large wooden pergola, draped with a canvas cover, rolled up in summer but able to create a waterproof room should it rain, and provide a warm option in the winter. There's even a small wishing well! Dogs are well catered for with a water station and free snacks. The pub is up a short but steep street right next to the Kings Arms as you walk up Whiteladies Road, but is also accessible from the Downs direction, via a less steep street, Wesley Place.

The port of call is a home away from home, a beautiful traditional pub at the top of whiteladies road near the Downs. Ross, Russ, and Josh always serve with a smile and a laugh. A great local, and a great pub just to pop in with visitors ⭐️ Nice mix of drinks, with some great real ales along the all important mix of local ciders. The Port does an amazing Sunday roast with all the veg and trimmings you could want - a great cauli-cheese and roasted root vegetables so good that I’ve just ordered them as a snack before. We love the regular pub quiz on Sundays at 8pm, which is just the right mix of challenging and fun! There's a great beer garden for the summer months.

One thing's for sure... you're not going home hungry! 😁 Had Sunday Roast here for the first time recently and it was very good indeed. A decent amount of meat on your plate with a fine selection of veg, jug of gravy per person, massive Yorkshire and even when I was at the stage where I was stated to fill up, I was advised that if I wanted more veg or gravy, just ask and they'll bring more out! 🤯 Cauliflower Cheese, Carrots, Green beans, leeks, sliced red cabbage, roast potatoes all lovely! Choices are Pork Belly, Rare Roast Beef, Leg of Lamb, Roast Ox Cheeks, or whole chicken to share. Good quality food and a reasonable price. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the real ales were spot on! The only negative was that the same REM Album was on repeat 😂 so we heard the same songs three times! Will be back soon 👌 Ps there are veggie options but

Hugely disappointing. We visited a while back for a drink and found the pub really cosy, so when passing today we decided to stop for lunch. Sadly, my meal was quite inedible with stringy, gristly meat and my partners meal was very underwhelming, a basic veggie burger with a few frozen chips. We both had soft drinks that were realty flat. In this day and age where everything is so expensive you feel really robbed when you have a poor experience with food. We did chat to the bar person who gave us 10% off but we still left with a bitter taste in our mouths. It feels like the sort of place that should just stick to serving beer. Sadly we won’t be returning.

I visited this pub on Tuesday 23 April 2024 with my brother. I have been happily going to this pub for over 45 years and always enjoyed having drinks there. We arrived at 3:30 and were the only customers in the bar. Very friendly bar maid until about 5pm when there was a change of staff. We were sat very close to the bar, about 5 feet, and when we were close to finishing our Guinness pints we asked the bar maid to pull 2 more pints. My brother said it in a normal voice, he did not have to shout because the bar was so quiet . She replied that she would do it this once but in future she expects us to come up to the bar counter and order our drinks from there. As any Guinness lover knows it takes several minutes to pour a pint of Guinness, so we were simply asking the process to get started before we went up to the bar to pay for it. There was only one other person in the bar so we could not understand the bar maid’s attitude. We were very polite and questioned on this on this, asking her had we offended her in some way. She simply replied that, if she was busy, then she expects us to come to the bar. We pointed out that there were only 3 people in the pub, so why was she making this a big issue ? Her reply was very rude. She clearly had attitude problems. We tried to point out that since covid many pubs had continued to provide a semi waiter service and were happy to take orders from a table and even, on occasion, deliver a drink to a table. Indeed this was the case when I visited the huntsman pub in bath the following day. This woman is not suited to be a bar maid or indeed be employed in the hospitality industry. Sadly, we will not be returning to this pub.

We were asked for drinks within 2 mins of being seated and served quickly. Great choice of meats, including my favourite (lamb) which a lot of places don’t serve anymore. The meal itself was absolutely delicious! My lamb was gorgeous. One or two slices were really thick! The other three on our table had the three meats (beef, pork and lamb). Just had an absolutely appalling experience at this establishment. I've been coming here for nigh on 20 years with friends for drinks and Christmas catchup. I ordered a couple of Beavertowm Neckoils for myself and a friend. The barrell went, and the staff took roughly 10 mins to change the keg, trying to pull it through when obviously cellar bouy not reset, hence pulling air into the line. Eventually sorted, and got my beers, but one was flat. I took it back to complain, but the manager just tried to fobb me off by pouring into another glass and creating a head. Having 20 years + in bars, I challenged and his response was to threaten to throw me out. I left the beer and returned to my friends. I had asked for another beer or refund but obviously got nowhere. An absolutely disgraceful example of customer experience I have never seen. An absolute shame, as this has been a stalwart of a pub for many a year. Obviously new management don't care about their customers.

I am compelled to write this as I feel strongly about somewhere that has crashed so badly. I don't know what has happened to this place where the Sunday Roasts used to be consistently of the highest quality. It's not that the quality of the roasts have fallen a little...they are barely edible. I visited with friends earlier this year and was shocked at the change. We thought it might be a one-off, although other people in Bristol were saying similar things. Yesterday, we tried the Sunday Roast again, giving PofC the benefit of the doubt, as it had once been so very good. The food was appalling. Rock hard roast potatoes cooked early in the day and left to stand for hours, red cabbage which had caught in the pan and was inedible, green cabbage and leeks which hadn't been cooked enough! and watery cauliflower cheese with cauli which hadn't even been cut into bite size pieces or cooked enough either. We had to cut it up ourselves which proved a task. Portions of veg were mean and we had to ask for more. The meat (I had beef) was pink and looked nicely cooked but was tough as old boots. The service was fine and friendly. The beer still excellent but the kitchen needs to take a long hard look at itself. The atmosphere used to be buzzing with chat and people enjoying the food and wine. It is now silent as people realise that they're paying good money for lousy grub.

At lunch they tried to overcharge me by approx £25 on a lunch bill that was actually approx £36 - i.e. approx 70%. I was told that this was due to “a glitch” but as we were they only customers in the bar at the time I can’t see how it was possible to get the bill wrong. I’m not going back

This is a second review, as weve been calling in a few times, but todays visit was a rarity; Sunday lunch. We’ve really been wanting to try the sunday lunch but with Mrs Mooke working Sundays, this never wuite worked out. Today we had two roast beef, really melt in the mouth stuff. The Yorkshire was a monster! Served with 3 roast pots, roasted carrots snd seasonal greens and caulglower cheese. You can add extras too that, but if you do that, bring your A game appetite! Found it filling enough as it was! Could manage a desert. Nearly couldnt manage a beer afterwards! Very good, do much better than a carvery. Couldnt fault it, though dont let Josh the bar guy sort your mustard! Dijon indeed! We had excellent colmans. As it should be. If you fancy a Sunday roast and your in the area, perhaps try here, but maybe book a table beforehand. Im thinking here could get popular on a Sunday.

I've visited the pub a few times before for drinks, but ordered food this time and regretted it. My burger was sent out with a bun and bacon that were completely burned, rock hard, and inedible. It seems they also refill Heinz bottles with inferior ketchup; the dishonesty being the primary issue for me. Come for the drinks and ambience, don't bother with the food.

Normally, I don't review things close to home. i know what's good, and why on Earth do I want the travelling population descending on my territory ?! :-) As a result, I don't tend to review that that's local. Most of my reviews are for me, but if the place is local, then I don't need it. But I am going to break a hard and perhaps not so fast rule but giving a shout of to the Port of Call. We've been coming up for the last few weeks, and we've enjoyed lunches and drinks, and just the time passing. In that regard, it reminds me a little of my favourite pub anywhere, which is the Marrisco Tavern on Lundy. It looks nothing like it, but I like the way that in both, for us at least, time passes and we come home feeling that all is better with the world than when we went in. They had steak night on tonight, so we went. I have to say, that WAS the nicest plate of food I've had in ages. I've had a godawful day, I needed a lift, and a beautifully cooked steak dinner and a glass of red really nailed it. The onion rings side order were absolute perfection. We came home after a pint and a dinner and glass of wine, and I'm not kidding, I feel more relaxed than I have been in a while. The staff are awesome, the atmosphere cosy, the food (tonight) excellent. That's what pubs should do. Provide cosy spaces from the world. This one does that. Got to say, please come. Please pull up a table, make yourself at home, respect the pub, respect others, have a great time. We did, and we love it. 11/10

We have been here many a time, a this evening's experience was the same as all the others. Faultless. We sat on table 4, which was next to the log burner fire. This was very much appreciated, as it was freezing outside. It also helped set a beautiful atmosphere within the cosy pub. The food and drinks are reasonably priced (for Clifton, you'd expect to pay a little more). The food quality is outstanding. Russell and his team's cooking is phenomenal. The old smokey burger special was delicious. The burger was huge. I had to cut it into quarters to eat it with some sophistication. It went down a treat. The service from bar manager Josh and the rest of the team was faultless. They are always very attentive, polite and friendly. They work so hard. They are a huge credit to the pub. Thank you for always making our time at the Port of Call a lovely one. If you've yet to visit the Port of Call. Do it.

Port of Call is my favourite pub in Bristol. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the place has a lovely atmosphere. They do the best Sunday Roast and because of this my partner and I couldn't resist trying their three course Christmas menu!...

Been here a few times for the Sunday roast! Need to book ahead and they also start to run out of certain meats towards the end! Had the turkey and it was delicious! Good sized meal and would definitely recommend.

Our group of 10 visited The Colosseum for the Bottomless Jazz Brunch on Saturday at midday. The experience included 90 minutes of tapas dishes such as chorizo, patatas bravas, and padron peppers, all delicious. The brunch also included unlimited Aperol Spritz, Prosecco, Sangria, and Pimm’s. We were seated outside near the brilliant jazz band, who played a range of standards, which created a really lovely atmosphere. The portion sizes were generous, and the staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring our drinks were topped up regularly. The price is reasonable for the amount and quality of food and drink offered. One point for consideration by management would be improving the acoustics inside the restaurant, as it can get quite harsh on the ears during peak times. Overall, we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning.
