A good pub just off the triangle. Several rooms of tables with live music available. We enjoyed a decent pint or two and listened to some music late on a Saturday night which was fun.

Back to 2021, I spent the first and very lovely year in the UK in Bristol, this pub is my favorite one in the whole country. Everyone in the pub, not just Matt, is very friendly and the atmosphere was always great to make me relaxed. I made some friends here, they are the first couple of friends I had in this country. Miss this place so much. Matt definitely knows things about beer, and pub quizzes are still quite difficult for me no matter in which British pub lol

Great spot / taps and food - highly recommend

I hosted my 30th birthday party here a few weeks ago and it was the perfect venue. Beautifully decorated, great setup for food and a great music system. The staff were amazing too, so accommodating and kind. Would 100 per cent recommend! Thank you so much Eldon House!

We hosted our engagement party at Eldon House this weekend, and what a fantastic and accommodating venue it is ! The staff went above and beyond for us and our 25+ guests. Room hire was free for us all night ✅ They arranged a fully vegan buffet with no hassle ✅ They were happy to let us put on our own music and use the TV to project some photos ✅ The staff were incredibly kind, friendly and chatty ✅ They looked after our gifts for the night so we could easily continue our night in the clubs nearby after closing ✅ They even gave us a drink on the house to help us celebrate ! ✅ I couldn't recommend Eldon House enough, they helped to make it the perfect celebration for us. Thank you Eldon House ! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We wanted somewhere we could sit for the rugby and we got lucky here, plenty of space and a great selection of local beers. Clearly an underrated gem. Food not being served yet so can't rate that but the beers were great.

This place is usually bursting at the seams so a delightful surprise to come and enjoy a drink on our way home.

Friendly, chilled normal people in this pub, nice.

I enjoyed the Bristol Green Party end of year party on the Monday, then went back on Wednesday to hear the Bristol Brass Consort do some festive tunes, and to collect my umbrella which I had forgotten to pick up on Monday. Matt and Charlie are wonderful hosts, and thanks to them for minding my brolly/.

What more could you want in a local pub. 10/10 Matt the behind the bar deserves a raise. Even taught my friends how to correctly fry an egg, above and beyond. Perfect place for a pint or 2 (or more..)

Had the pleasure of playing at this beautiful little pub with my band recently! It's truly a hidden gem in Bristol, well stocked bar with a traditional feel to it and a gorgeous snug main seating area which has multiple skylights, very good seating and a wonderful atmosphere. The bar manager was also a delight and made us feel so welcome and looked after. Will 100% be back there again for a quiet drink with the wife and would highly recommend the Eldon House to anyone making a visit to Bristol!

Worst Sunday lunch I've ever experienced. Coupled with being underwhelming, tepid and overpriced we were rushed to finish our booked meal because they had a birthday bash booked for the same room and needed us to leave so they could continue removing all of the chairs and tables. (Yes!. They had started doing this during our meal). The landlords response (same landlord at the merchants arms, Hotwells) when spoken with about it was that "you can't please everyone." Here's a suggestion.. don't double book your events room that you also use to serve food (we would happily have eaten in the main bar area but we were ushered into your back room) and make your patrons feel like they're somehow to blame, awkward or at fault. We were there due to a cancellation and recommendation from the legendary Rose of Denmark and foolishly expected a similar experience. The only similarity was the price. The landlord would do well to understand the true cost of something. I hope this review helps with that.

Visiting with the family, we were made to feel remarkably welcome and the staff could not do enough. Great value.food- the vegan menu is particularly good. Cannot praise it enough, really. Such a nice change from chain pubs and restaurants.

While wandering up to Clifton from our hotel, my wife and I came across this lovely little pub. We initially were just going to pop in for a drink, but because of the friendly welcome we received, we decided to stay and have Sunday lunch, and we were very glad we did. We travel a lot, and this was the best Sunday lunch we have had for a long time. Home cooking at it`s best, accompanied with well kept beer (Gorge best Bitter) in a very clean and welcoming atmosphere.I would highly recommend anyone visiting Bristol to try this hidden little diamond of a pub, as we will definitely be returning when next in the city.

The Eldon house ! What a fabulous pub . We all met up for a special occasion on a sunny afternoon a day or so ago . We could not have picked anywhere better . With reasonably priced drinks and a fantastic bar menu serving the likes of burger and fries hotdogs / fish and vegan options all priced at around £8.50 well it’s just so refreshing to find a bar that seems to get it all right ! My daughter opted for the hotdog which she said was the best ever . The rest of our crowd were all as complimentary ! Oh and there is live music on a Sunday apparently which starts at 5 and a roast if you so wish . I have booked already . Thanks matt and staff for a brilliant afternoon . John

Just don't. The Rose of Denmark sent out reservation of three here after they couldn't accommodate our booking due to a gas leak. Absolutely awful. Tepid food of which the best was the red cabbage. Our corn fed chicken turned up a Quorn rubber along with the rest of the sparse overpriced meal. Deeply disappointed especially as a family member was here on a birthday visit. It was mortifying. We were rushed to finish the slop due to the room beeing booked for a private function. We were glad to leave. Again, just don't.

The Eldon House is a traditional, cosy, pub in Clifton, Bristol. Although it looks small from the outside it is spacious inside with three separate areas each with their own character. From the street you step into the bar, where a warm welcome awaits from the friendly staff. There is a selection of the usual draught beers, lagers and ciders and guest craft ales which are well worth trying; the landlord/bar manager clearly knows his stuff and is passionate about it. Currently there is a short menu of meals available which are well executed by the chef; there are a surprising number of vegan and veggie options too. In summary the Eldon House is a lovely traditional pub with a great cellar and no pretensions. Highly recommended.

I held my 22nd birthday party at Eldon House and it was truly the best experience. The staff were so kind and accommodating, we could play our own music over the speakers and they even allowed us to leave some belongings behind to collect the next day. I really recommend Eldon House for any events you may have coming up, can’t fault them at all. Everyone who came had the best night! The staff were incredibly friendly, the venue was super clean, the whole venue is great as was the experience.

We went in bang on midday on a weekday asking for food & they basically opened the kitchen up just for us. We had hot dogs, burgers & chips, all tasty & a good price - I was pleased to be able to get a vegan hot dog. Really welcoming & accomodating staff, lovely pub.

Matt is a very attentive landlord who clearly loves his pub. He really looks after his customers and serves great beer. The front of the pub is peaceful and sunny with a lovely view of a posh school.

Brilliant traditional free house. Great manager who cares about his customers, supported by great staff. Have heard that they also do film nights, using actual celluloid and vintage projectors.

I had my 40th birthday at The Eldon House and it was amazing! The staff are very friendly and helpful; they were able to provide a buffet menu for me to choose from, as well as endless bottles of Prosecco for my guests. They allowed us to rearrange the whole place to suit our needs and bring our own cake, and throughout were just lovely to deal with. I would highly recommend them as a party venue. We had about 60 people which was snug, and warm, but worked beautifully. We also had our own PA set up and live music throughout. Again, they were just lovely about all of that and so helpful, with a little stage area etc. The locals were in the main bar, but it didn't seem to be a problem, and I hope they enjoyed some of the musical acts that performed! Such a great night. Thank you so much, Matt, Yogi and Hannah!

Really disappointed with the food. We came here two years ago for a similar family get together and it was amazing. Roast was awful- we complained and got a small refund.

Surprisingly spacious pub once you are inside. Cheddar and Quantock ales on cask, a couple of New Bristol Brewery options on keg adding variety. Very pleasant option for a tea time pint.

We used to love this pub and eat there fairly regularly but since it changed hands (2019) it's nosedived. Went there for Sunday lunch with seven friends. Although I had confirmed our booking three days prior I was not warned of what was to happen. NO starters. NO desserts! ("Yeah, this has happened for a few weeks now," was the only explanation we received.) At £14 (no discount for non-meat option) we expected a good lunch as usual but it wasn't. Luke-warm, served in dribs and drabs so the first person served had almost finished by the time the last was served, very mediocre. And only one choice of wine! Won't be going again for a long while, if ever. It's not as if there's no competition! Suggest you try the nearby Port of Call or Rose of Denmark if you want a great Sunday lunch.

Not a good experience last Sunday two places from a party had to be taken back as they were cold albeit it they had some sort of power failure in the kitchen. By the time all were served the first of the group had finished that they then brought the horseradish out. Plus only one desert choice.

Very quite and not a huge range of ales but what they had was well kept and at decent prices for Clifton! The bar maid was friendly and knew her stuff. The locals were chatty at the bar as well. Old school pub mentality. Shame there's no garden but the benches out the front are a welcome addition.

Vertly nice surroundings in a very warm and light Pub. Good selection of drinks on offer although, very IPA heavy, I think I counted 5. Prices are reasonable given some of the pricing in the area. Staff very friendly and approachable.

I dropped into the Eldon House for tea with a colleague while working away. He didn't seem too impressed but I was well happy with the great range of ales on offer and the pizza wasn't to shabby either.

Friendly bar staff member when we popped on a Tuesday evening. Nice building views out the front window. The beers we had were excellent even though the selection isn't vast (pretty standard Bristolish options). I would return here as a nice stop for a drink whilst walking up Clifton. The only reason I have removed one star is because it kind smelt like a sweaty student party had just ended in there that day. Luckily we acclimated pretty quickly but it was pungent on arrival. Presumably that's not a regular smell.

Beer selection: good. Beer quality: excellent. Staff: friendly and fast, without feeling rushed. An excellent bar. Love this place!
