CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH..roastold

comment_iconOpinions

Our group of 10 visited The Colosseum for the Bottomless Jazz Brunch on Saturday at midday. The experience included 90 minutes of tapas dishes such as chorizo, patatas bravas, and padron peppers, all delicious. The brunch also included unlimited Aperol Spritz, Prosecco, Sangria, and Pimm’s. We were seated outside near the brilliant jazz band, who played a range of standards, which created a really lovely atmosphere. The portion sizes were generous, and the staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring our drinks were topped up regularly. The price is reasonable for the amount and quality of food and drink offered. One point for consideration by management would be improving the acoustics inside the restaurant, as it can get quite harsh on the ears during peak times. Overall, we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning.

A pub that's changed massively under new owners and suffered with many bad reviews which I feel reflect that change. I've been a few times recently and always found it super welcoming, I really appreciate the tapas food and love that there's a strong late night bar here - when so many are being squeezed out. I feel sorry for the locals who have lost their "old local" - but excited for it's new future

Went here today as a part of the Bristol cocktail weekend, I don't usually leave reviews, but today feel it is necessary. The staff were friendly and the cocktail was nice enough, however as a part of the weekend they were offering a steak for a "special" price of £10 each. Looking at the misleading advert, it was a lovely big steak, no sides, just the steak. We decided to go for it. When the steak arrived we were both so shocked at how small it was. The tiniest thin strip of meat, which was also dry. I'm not a complaining miserable type at all, but to charge £10 each piece that took about three minutes to eat is an absolute rip off and a joke. The ladies toilets were a disgrace and need a good clean. So disappointed as every other place we have been to this weekend has been fantastic, so a shame to leave feeling dissatisfied and hungry!

My partner and I came here for a cute lil date before heading out for the evening and this bar did not disappoint. Between the lively atmosphere, the excellent service and the delicious food/cocktails, we were set up for a brilliant night. I highly recommend the pumpkin cocktail (can’t remember its name), it’s deliciously served warm and can be made vegan! Thank you!!

The food and coffee is really great and the other drinks look spot on (I haven't tried them yet). Nice atmosphere and overall it has a kind of funky retro look. I love the plexiglass bar with random objects embedded in it, nice touch! They do live music too. It's a good part of town, St Mary Redcliffe church is opposite, the harbour a stones throw away and main bus stops just up the road 👍

Never visited the old pub so can't comment on what it was like. I was looking forward to the renovation of this intriguing 60s structure, but it's actually been turned into something a bit bare and soulless. Exposed brick walls and a cavernous cold space. It's not terrible I just expected better. It just doesn't have any real character beyond "generic modern bar" which you'd understand if it was under a new block of flats or something, but clearly this building has history and a story to tell. When I visited the bar was severely understaffed and had to queue for about 15 minutes for a pint.

A nice pub with a great atmosphere in the centre of Bristol, but beside from that, a real dark horse for food. The food here is delicious, and excellent value. I have paid as much as triple the price for food elsewhere that still is not as tasty - even if you ignore the price point. I really can't recommend it enough, and would encourage anyone who fancies a drink and a bite to eat to try out the Coliseum before they cotton on to the fact that their food is excellent and put the prices up (justifiably)! Very fair prices, very tasty food, you can't go wrong.

Took a friend here on his birthday to have a Sunday dinner but despite saying that it served British traditional pub grub it does nothing of the sort. We had a pint of cider each (£4.95 a pint) and I would love somebody to explain what 'Colosseum' cider is or by what manufacturer but we had our one pint and it wasn't good so we went over to The Ship for Thatchers at £3.70 a pint.Never again.

Recently renovated this pub is now open plan with big doors onto a sheltered outside area. Beer choices are good, food is small plates, well priced and beautifully thought out to go perfectly with beer or cocktails. The cocktails look impressive and I saw some being made with great care and attention. Food is from about £4.50 a plate, my beer was £6 I think and cocktails £12 or thereabouts. I was very pleased to see a ladies toilet too. I don't feel safe in gender neutral ones.

Popped in for an impromptu drink and snack on the way back to the car yesterday. I never frequented the old pub so nothing to compare for me. It's new owners are still finding their feet but are very attentive and keen for feedback. It was super quiet but I liked the decor with it's reclaimed sports hall floor. The toilets were nicely tiled and very clean. We had the Jubel to drink which was really good and ordered halloumi and veg skewers and some wings. Both were fresh and tasty and the wings had a good spice kick. It is very convenient for our office although not currently open on a weekday lunch, I will definitely hope for a speedy lunchtime drink at lunch in the future though when they open more and the terrace will be nice in summer 🌞

We loved the old colosseum, full of character and lovely people. Initially I was pleased that it was staying open as a venue and 'saved' but the reopening has been a let down. Entering with high hopes to the iconic venue, impressions are that It looks homogeneous, pretentious and lacks character - seems too fussy and geared towards the after work crowd. Maybe this is what has to happen to venues for them to stay open, but if so - big shame. Constructive criticism- should have been kept in the spirit of the last place, at least get a pool table if this is a 'dive bar'! Feels like whoever dreamt it up lacks imagination (like an indie slug and lettuce?) 2 out of 5 because the larger was under a 5er

No real ale but dart boards and pool tables and 2 pints of Jewel nitrokeg less than £7. Kronenbourg just over £4 a pint. Decor is reminiscent of a Butlins from 1989 but toilets are clean and there's a nice view of the church one side and a bit of the harbour the other. I'll be sad to see the place go.

My friend and I had Saturday lunch in this pub and we thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend has several food allergies, so we are sometimes limited to where we can go, but the pub was super catering to her needs. We had a lovely conversation with the bar manager, Emily, who gave us recommendations for things to do in Bristol while we were staying there. Would highly recommend the pub if you’re swinging by Bristol!
