Now called courtyard cafe. Worst cream tea I have had and expensive. Scones were obviously shop bought and microwaved and were not fresh along with cheap tasting raspberry jam with no choice. Quaint place and staff were friendly enough. Nice location but pity about he quality of food.

We popped in here (now known as the Courtyard Cafe so beware) on Monday after a stroll around St Ives. Two (maybe three) tables outside and about 5 or 6 inside so not a big place by anymeans. We sat at a table and our order was taken quickly, brilliant as we had a train to catch. As we awaited our cream teas, I could smell the cleaning fluid used on the still sticky/grubby table we were sat at, oh well never mind.Five minutes later our tea (the drink) arrived, lovely. 15 minutes passed, no scones/cream/jam to be seen and it actually dawned on me that the young lady had misheard us and thought we’d only asked for two teas. So we asked and she said they were coming. 8 minutes later they arrived, very nice too (although no butter for the scones although I accept needing butter too is subjective). However, the ‘experience’ was totally ruined by the whiff of the toilet which is right in the corner of the tea room. The door opens directly out into the eating space so everytime someone went in or out it got worse, surprised that’s even allowed to be honest (plus I don’t want to see a toilet when eating, especially when the door doesn’t get shut by other people. All in all a real disappointment plus the two/possibly 3 young ladies working there kept a full blown conversation going between themselves about some other young lass for the duration of our visit at the top of their voices.

This is now called The Court Yard Tea rooms off Fore StreetWhat a great little gem this is. I found it on a Bank holiday Monday while walking along the very busy shopping street of Fore Street in St Ives. It provided a peaceful quiet stop for something to eat. I joined another couple and sat in the main room which had lots of different tea pots lining the shelves. Lovely atmosphere. There was another room plus tables in the court yard.I ordered the cream tea, which was one of the best in Cornwall and excellent value. It arrived on a nice little tray with two warm scones, two large pots of jam and cream, more than enough for double the amount of scones. There was about 12 different types of tea to choose from. I had the Cornish tea. The tea arrived in a lovely china tea pot with enough tea for at least 2 cups. All this for just £5.50. The service was excellent and although they were very busy with every table occupied I didn't feel rushed, just the opposite. The young waitresses were polite and smiling, busy clearing tables and bringing fresh food out. Nothing seemed to much trouble for them. The couple on the same table had ordered a pot of tea for two, when it arrived the lady said she had changed her mind and could she have a pot for one of de-cafe. The waitress just smiled and said off course leaving the double pot for the husband returning a couple of minutes later with the de-cafe, with no extra charge. From where I was sat I could see the owner being very busy making up fresh sandwiches to order. She was non stop.Would I recommend it. Well two days later before returning to Kent I went back for another cream tea. My experience was the same.

Found this welcoming eatery while ambling through st ives. Hot day, 4 dogs, it was a shaded haven just off the main shopping area. Very friendly staff, welcomed dogs and a variety of snacks at reasonable prices. You can eat in one of two rooms or in the courtyard itself. Well worth the visit.

We stumbled upon this little place whilst hunting for somewhere to eat as everywhere else couldn't guarantee peanut safe food. The young lady who served us was very helpful and checked packaging for me. We were that happy to find somewhere where we knew it was safe for my little girl to eat that we went back again.

I believe this is now call the Courtyard Tea Rooms. Located in a small courtyard off Fore Street , it is in a peaceful location away from the busy streets of St Ives. We had a cream tea and it was amazing and only £5. Lovely fresh scones from the bakery round the corner. A huge pot of jam and an equally huge pot of clotted cream. Lovely mis-matched floral tea set. Absolutely delicious! We sat outside, it was a sunny but very windy day, but the courtyard provided much needed shelter from the wind. The only quibbles were that both outdoor tables were piled high with dirty plates and cups when we arrived and we had to ask for a table to be cleared ( I noticed they only cleared one and left the other as it was, only for another customer to have to ask for it to be cleared!). Plus it took quite a while for our order to be brought to the table. But other than this it was excellent.

Poppins is set back from the main hustle and bustle of St Ives, in a small courtyard with a couple of outside tables (more inside of course). We were lucky enough to bag one of these on a recent trip to St Ives, and enjoyed a lovely drink and a sandwich (mine was crab, my wife's egg mayonnaise) served by friendly staff. The prices were very reasonable considering how pretentious the rest of St Ives has become (it's 30 years since my last visit, there was barely a shop there then). Oh, and they stock Fentimans drinks, which if like me you enjoy, is a real treat.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
