We came in for our lunch at around 12ish very nice and quiet. Had a lovely man greet us who allowed us to pick where we were sat. He asked for our drinks and our food which we were served with very little waiting time. The man was lovely and interacted with us and made us laugh when pretending our little boys meal was for him. We were looked after very well. We were all offered a lolly at the till and we were wished a lovely day. Best customer service we have received in a Poppins (we normally come to the Southampton one but the customer service isn't as good in there)

Met my friends here for breakfast, a guy came over to take our orders, he kept calling us darling, which I found very annoying. Anyway we ordered, received our drinks, then we had a plate of toast put in front of us, expecting our breakfasts to come quickly after, they didn’t. Breakfasts arrived about ten minutes later. Obviously the toast was cold at this point. The girl that bought them over could not get her head around the plates she had bought to the table, so the guy that took our orders came over to help out. The food was hot, the toast also turned out to be nearly burnt as well as cold when we started eating it with the breakfast. Shame as I have enjoyed my breakfasts in there previously.

Not the best Poppins to be honest. This doesn't compare to the one in Petersfield. Not sure what sausages had in then but the texture is off putting. Egg undercooked. Chips tasted odd. Staff friendly and attentive

Service is always top notch here! The staff are always polite, always there to assist you and always there to put a smile on your face. Food is always hot and cooked well, orders are taken promptly and served fast even when the location is busy! Saturdays and Sundays are always generally busy! So if you don’t want it busy don’t go then! Weekdays is best. Less people less busy!

We are visiting Basingstoke from America for a wedding and went to breakfast with our daughter and her partner. The service was quick and the food and coffee was delicious. The location was nice. We sat outside because the weather was beautiful. We all enjoyed our meal and then walked around the shops.

Family friendly and brilliant service. We went there today for lunch after we went to watch Zog at the hay market. It’s right next door and the staff made us feel so welcome, so friendly and approachable and really made effortless effort with the kids, they clearly like their job! Food was just what we wanted, good ole fashioned cafe food, large menu with kids choices. Place is nicely done up as well!

You should be absolutely ashamed of your restaurant or franchise abusing your name in Basingstoke. Here’s my review of my visit today a few minutes ago. —- Tried this place today and found it to be sadly inflexible and not in any way customer focused. The menu says: Chips on own £3 Omelette with chips £7.50 I wanted to order omelette without chips but they wanted to charge the same £7.50 price. Shameful Then, when I ordered just a drink and waited over 10 minutes for its arrival, I told the waiter to cancel and got up to leave. The Letch of a waiter put his foot against the front door and tried to stop me from leaving. Letch called the foreign manager over and he banned me from “his” restaurant forever! Avoid this dumb-ass place at all costs !

Quick service and very friendly staff. Not too busy, managed to seat ourselves straight away. Table service instantly with friendly waiter too.

It’s really hard to find a proper cooked breakfast that doesn’t consist of artisan sausages, sour dough toast and sprinkled with flower petals. But thankfully Poppins provides a full English just like your mum would make with a cup of tea or coffee included in the price! Absolutely perfect.

We had just arrived in Basingstoke and found this town centre café with an outside seating area by the museum. Two flat whites cost £5.80 the service was professional and friendly.

Clean and tidy, it also looks clean as well. Food was cooked in front of you fresh. Highly recommend.

Always loved a Poppins sice college many years ago been to many of the restaurants as always brilliant food brilliant service brilliant value for money. Been many years since I had been to one and today's lunch didn't disappoint Poppins mix meal bought back loads of great memories loved it

Always quick to serve, just a basic clean cafe. Simple menu but always quick to serve so nothing here to complain about. Just a basic cafe service and food

So disappointed.i had to send back my cottage pie as it was cold in the middle.The same meal returned after being nuked in a microwave.It was awful.What was once gravy was now a burnt rim around the outside of the plate.The server/manager could not understand why i could possably be disappointed!!!!His attitude was such a let down to my once favourite restaurant.He even tried to charge me for the free drink which was included in the price of the meal.This was eventually taken off along with the meal.No apology or offer of any complementary drinks/deserts etc.The biscuit BTW which came with the tea was stale.This used to be such a wonderful place.

I have now been sitting here for 45 minutes waiting for my breakfast. This has to be the slowest service in Hampshire. 50 minutes and it’s arrived. No sauces, no salt and pepper and if I’m honest it’s just average. You’d be better off going to Wetherspoons!

I am still amazed at this restuarunt as firstly the menu is great for breakfast lunch or dinner. Secondly it took them 5-15 minutes to cook and it was still red hot.Thirdly the staff didnt just look like zombies they always had a smile

We have been returning time and time again and each time we are greeted by great staff, very clean restaurant and the food is good, positions are always huge no Matter what you order. food and drinks menu has a massive selection, We have never been disappointed from milkshakes to coffees, from cooked breakfasts to salads or jacket potatoes honestly food is done to Perfection.Right down to money absolutely you will get value for money.Staff are welcoming and friendly, table service is provided. When your done you do need to pay at the counter which is not a problem at all.

My wife and I visit once a week roughly, the food is great, always hot and fresh. Service is good too. Dividers in place to adhere to Covid restrictions. Would highly recommend this place

Had brunch with some girlfriends. Was OK. Staff seemed abit moody but it was Early. Food was good. Sausages were a tad grissly and bacon wasn't as crispy as I would like but those are small issues. Very nice place to enjoy breakfast and close to festival place which is great for some retail therapy.

This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were very pleased that we chose it. We had a full breakfast and the food was of a high standard and plenty of it! The waitress was delightful. Will definitely visit again.

My husband and I went for a lunchtime ‘all day breakfast’ today. The food was hot, tasty and well presented! We had a great seating area near the window. Service was friendly and prompt. Will definitely go again.

My late mum absolutely loved this place - watched the world go by with a tea and breakfast. We still go there to this day for a great quality food. Delicious and welcoming atmosphere. Great value for money - love the breakfasts !!

Very shocking to hear that the staff talk in their own language and totally disrespect their customers ..Turkish stuff with polish waitross no one of this people know english!!!She ask me couple time about my order and still make mistake,then start talking to the tall,dark hair man,for sure about us! She constantly touch her face and nose,dissgusting! never ever. Their spoil our Sunday breakfast.

Just got a panini to take away and a hash brown. Worst panini I have ever had, soooo dry and the hash brown was soggy and oily. Not happy considering the price. Would not recommend a take away.

I visit regularly with both my partner and also with a friend for chat over a cuppa. In the case of my friend, we stay most of the afternoon and never feel unwelcome. In fact, we are well known now and the waitress brings our order without having to ask us. Food is well cooked, tasty and I have never, ever had a gresdy meal here. In fact, to call it a greasy spoon restaurant is an insult and the person calling it that has obviously never been to a proper greasy spoon cafe.As for staff being unfriendly, I can only speak as I find and we have never met with anything to complain of. As some staff don't speak English, maybe that could be mistaken for 'not being friendly' but most of the staff understand us perfectly.On the question of hygiene, I have never seen any mess, dirty tables etc in all my years if visits. In fact, if you are there late afternoon, watch them clean the place from top to bottom. Never seen this anywhere else in town.If the staff talk Turkish and/or call us names, then we would never know as we are not Turkish speakers, but all we want is good food at good prices and that is what we get.

My daughter and I have been regular customers for a number of years now and I have never been disappointed, I am always the first to complain when I am not happy but never once had the need to, the staff are always friendly, the food is always well cooked and plenty of it and the prices fair, the best cafe in Basingstoke.

Fast an friendly service , always a pleasant welcome at the start of. The day the food is good and well made not had any complaints about any of our food so far . Would come again anytime

I am generally a fan of the Poppins budget cafe-restaurant franchise chain, but today's visit to the one in Basingstoke town centre was frankly disappointing. Slow service, only the basic menu (no specials other than "breakfast sandwiches") and poorly cooked chips, and are you sure those fish fingers are cod? They looked very grey. Don't allow a poor visit to one Poppins put you off trying others, they are all independent franchises.

Being told you have to pay the full £6 for an omelette even though you didn't have fries, salad or a jacket potato is nothing short of greed. Oh if I wanted an extra portion of fries then it's £2.30. Better service and value for money in several other Basingstoke cafes, avoid!

We had Cod chips peas and salad, all tasty. The cod was cooked just right. The menu is varied and prices are quite good. The staff are all friendly and the service is quick. I would recommend a visit.

Good little restaurant if you fancy a dirty breakfast at 8am! Set breakfasts are standard and plentiful, kids options too and extras are reasonably priced.

We have always found poppins a pleasure to visit,Wether its for a hearty breakfast,or another dish from the ample menu they provide. The food is always plentiful,and well cooked .Served promptly(unless very busy) by polite and helpful staff.Well worth a visit if you are peckish.

So far every Poppins cafe I have visited offer the same great meals at very reasonable prices and this one certainly lived up to that. Cheerful friendly staff, quick service and hot tasty meals.

Poppins serves normal cafe type mainly fried food which is well cooked. The service is normally quick and efficient. My main concern with this restaurant though is with its staff. They are all so miserable! Without exception, all the staff are foreign. I have no issue with foreigners working in the UK but please at least fake it that you want to be here with a smile or two or go home! We have enough miserable Brits working in the service industry as it is!

Its almost a boring cliche, but Poppins restaurants offer acceptable quality food at a budget price, and no matter which franchised venue I visit I find them to be the same in terms of quality (which is not cordon bleu, but is very okay for the price), and also in terms of friendly semi-informal staff.

Came out of the shopping centre to find this little Cafe..staff were attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our order..

Staff were lacking in basic customer service, a “good morning” let alone a smile wouldn’t of gone a miss! Not at all like previous reviews had suggested? Really put me off going there again.

Very shocking to hear that the staff talk in their own language and totally disrespect their customers .....very recently we took our clients with disabilities and autism I'm for dinner and was treated very badly the staff were talking about our clients in their language not realising that the staff member could understand everything they were saying .....calling them animals ..morons.....pigs....and the staff started cleaning the chairs while they were sat in them and sweeping under the table, be very picky as to where you take your people to eat I would NOT recommend this cafe......AVOID

We went there for a trip out with vulnerable clients although the food was good. We found that the staff were very two faced. They were speaking between themselves in Turkish un aware that we could understand what they were saying. While we were putting in our orders they were calling our clients "öküz" which translates into "morons/stupid" we found this totally disrespectful and disgusting and will NOT be going back again.

Great breakfast with friendly service. Highly recommended! A previous establishment had turned us away very rudely (from Harvester, Stag and Hounds) so we were worried that our group of fourteen wasn't welcome, but at Poppins we were pleasantly surprised.

We'd reserved an area so that a large group of us could have breakfast here, but on arrival the area we were given was not the one we'd asked for and was smaller than we needed. This meant that our group was scattered around the restaurant. Fixed chairs mean that seating options are limited.

Very disappointing food. I know it's a posh greasy spoon but learn how to cook the eggs. Free range eggs nice yoke but the white was like cardboard. Too over priced for what you get. On a plus side they were very friendly and welcoming

Its just a good old greasy spoon no frills place. The service is good and the food comes out quickly and hot. Been here many times and have never had any problems, the prices are decent and compared to some other cafes in town you get a reasonable amount of space and a nice sized plate of food. Obviously don't go here expecting fine dinning as you will be disappointed. But nothing wrong with this place in my opinion.

Went with a Wirk colleague for breakfast. Great service, fast and friendly. Breakfast was hot and very fresh. Would definitely go back and recommend

When we are in Basingstoke we always stop off here for lunch. The All Day Breakfast is great, freshly cooked and piping hot. A good cup of tea, or a milk shake and away we go. I think it has changed hands since last year - not sure though.Still Good

A real traditional cafe. Normal everyday food. Piping hot and freshly cooked. Coffee is great. Fab service. Shame they are at top of town as I don't tend to go up that way or I'd visit more often.Can't praise them enough. Good food lots of variety. Good prices. Basingstoke needs more places like this and less fast food.

Popped in here for lunch with my wife one afternoon. The place is clean and service was good. The food itself was very tasty and extremely reasonably priced. They have an all day breakfast menu as well as various other bits and bobs like sandwiches, burgers etc. Overall my wife and I enjoyed the food and will definitely be returning here.

Lunch time visit, it was easy to find a table as the cafe is bigger than it looks from the outside. A very basic menu but the food is served quickly and is freshly cooked to order, good presentation and taste. The service is the best part of eating here quick and polite. Seats are comfortable and there is plenty of room on the tables.

I often go in here for breakfast. The food I'd basic but quick attentive service. It's reasonably priced too.

I have visited a number of times with friends and always had good food, went in today with my family and wasn't disappointed 6 freshly cooked meals and drinks for a very fair price all brought to us with a smile and in great time may well be back again next weekend :-)

Well sorry but when you are handed a plate which you think is "All Day Breakfast" you kind of expect it to be cooked in a frying pan.Well look at the pictures here on this page & you will see a deep fried sausage but that won't show you the deep fried bacon!Seriously if you cannot fry sausages & bacon in a pan you really should not be serving a fry up, even all that aside there was nothing special about this in any way it was small and a feeble attempt.I have walked past this place many times & will continue to do so.

We eat here as a family far too many times every month! We keep going back, usually for breakfast or lunch as it is clean, friendly, well prepared food and great value for money. If you want fine dining this is not the place for you but if you are hungry and want a good fry up this place is perfect.

Without question the worst fry up in the history of cooked breakfasts. I couldn't eat it. Not only did the waiter not even know whether the bacon was smoked or not, but upon my complaining about the absolutely disgusting effluent they were trying to pass off as food he remained stoic and unapologetic. "It doesn't say they're free range eggs."Maybe not. But one would expect them to at least be from live chickens. Appalling. £7 to eat the remains of a Black Death victim? I don't think so.Avoid like the plague.

With the outside temperature around 31C the shade of this market place restaurant was positively inviting. I ordered a toasted panini and also a cooling chocolate milkshake. The waitress was attentive and my order was brought to me promptly. The food and drink were lovely. This is a good place to bide a while and ideal if visiting the Willis Museum.

We were a bit apprehensive in light of some other visitors comments but having stayed at the Holiday Inn where they wanted £14.95 pp for breakfast we decide to try POPPINS .Everything was just great & to get 2 full brekkies +toast +preserves + coffees for under half what that other place wanted was a steal !

Heard food things about the food first time went in for breakfast, it was cold and everything looked really heated. Service was good tho second time went back for a baguette on the go couldn't even bite into it as it was so hard. Won't bother trying again

Visited here a couple of times while I was in Basingstoke and had coffee and cake. The menu looked extensive and reasonably priced. One of the few places in Basingstoke to have a coffee. Good customer service.

Excellent breakfast - very reasonable as includes toast. Bacon is superb ! Fast service and comfotable seating.

We haven't tried about but the breakfasts here as they are so good! No matter how busy it is, you always get served promptly and the foods is also spot on

We journeyed into Basingstoke looking for lunch to avoid service stations and found ourselves in Poppins. It has an extensive menu - breakfasts, chips and stuff, platters, scampi etc - all good value. The service was very friendly and prompt and the place is kept extremely clean. Perfect for what we were looking for.

It so simple cheap and cheerful and a great place to suit all kinds of taste with wonderful meals and drinks to choose from alike.

This place is the best place in Basingstoke for a cooked breakfast!! Especially on the mornings with hangovers! I always go for the All inclusive breakfast with the toast / coffee perfect! Service is really good, nice and fast. American diner style menu with pancakes and milkshakes and that! Definitely recommended!

Love going here on a Saturday with the family we all love it and enjoy piping hot food, never had a meal, and the kids love the milkshakes.

Went here for lunch to go somewhere less of a chain restaurant (I know there's lots in the south but it's not like a Starbucks), it was clean and tidy and there was plenty of food and the tea was really nice (Dorset tea). Would go again

Basingstoke towns best cafe by far . Prompt polite service, good value, well cooked food and drinks . (nice clean toilets ) Puts a lot of the towns other eating establishments to shame.

I'm not normally one for greasy food in a cafe but i find myself going to poppins time after time. The staff are lovely, the atmosphere is great. Service is fast and the food is great. What's even better a proper coffee for half the price of Starbucks!! I come here all the time with different friends and family, and they all agree with me that it is a lovely place to sit and eat.
