Really lovely food and friendly staff, and great selection in the farm shop. My partner and I went with our 18m toddler thinking there would be some animals to see and a park for her to play in but there really isn't anything for little ones. Not the farm shops fault - ours for assuming!

Visited here just as it was between two of the family addresses. Seen in passing but never been in so thought we’d give it a go. Oh what a great decision !! Friendly greeting and great layout to the Cafe. You can reserved tables by calling beforehand. Order at the till, any variation was offered. Menu is very easy to follow, obviously we went for the Farmshop Breakfast, (think large full English, but with local produce!). Great English tea and nice teapots. The handmade sausages are huge, bacon beautifully cooked, eggs perfect, beans in small bowl, mushrooms, hash brown and granary toast. Just perfect. We will definitely be back, also dog friendly. Only moan would be the carpark has a number of large potholes, which with the recent rain were deceptively deep !!

Couldn't complain about anything even if I was in a filthy mood, always a young serving crowd but always lovely, food is always great quality, sourced very local to the shop (the farm itself), same quality ingredients sold in the shop, if you want a good sausage get it here ❤️❤️❤️

We waited too long……we were very hungry…we had half an hour for lunch and it took 40 mins for this cafe to serve us cheesy chips and quiche chips & salad! How hard is that? After 25 mins I asked how long it would be and was told that they had to deal with 30 orders and there were 4 ahead of us. It was a lunch hour and they should expect to be busy particularly the start of the school holidays…. When the order finally arrived the member of staff apologised for the wait but didn’t offer a complimentary drink as a gesture which would have been good customer service. The food was bland and un exciting and very little choice for vegans or vegetarians which was also disappointing in 2023! We will not be returning.

Our breakfast was served in a recycled carton and our drinks were extra when drinks are advertised as in breakfast cost which was too steep considering I have had better breakfasts in lots of places. The pods were rather a novity but I was not impressed with the expensive breakfast.

Popped in for a bite to eat and a coffee. Menu was printed on the counter and very expensive. We decided to have a coffee. The milk wasnt fresh milk in the jug and it was boiled to death. The milk was sour and started to skin on the top. Not very nice. Got money back ok

Went with friends to have breakfast here . Now they are working under certain COVID restrictions and trying to do their best but serving breakfast in cardboard boxes leaves a bit to be desired. And at £25 with a coffee for two a bit overpriced. The food itself was ok except my sausage was tasteless and when you have to sit outside you have to eat it quickly or it gets cold very quick. I had breakfast at another cafe in this group last weekend and it was served on plates outside on a cold morning but it was fine so this offer was a bit of a disappointment. Would I go back , I don’t know, maybe. I do realise they are trying to provide a service under difficult circumstances but there is room for improvement.

Stopped off for breakfast as several people had mentioned how good it was. On entering, there was a sign saying, that as all food is freshly cooked to order, there is a slight delay of around 20 mins. The place was very busy which is normally a good sign. On entering, we were quickly approached by a friendly member of staff, who promptly showed us to a suitable table. We were informed to order our food at the till when we were ready. We both opted for the farmhouse breakfast. It was quite pricey for what you got but we don't mind paying a bit extra for good local freshly cooked produce. Our order arrived within about 10 mins, quicker than we expected as it was very busy. It was very disappointing to say the least, especially for how expensive it was. My partners eggs were nothing short of hard boiled. Both of our bacon was rock hard and couldn't be cut with our knives. It was obviously pre cooked and warmed up to serve. I will say that the hash brown was probably one of the best we have ever had. Crispy outside and fluffy inside but at £8.95 each, we've had much better at less cost. Maybe we were just unlucky with our timing, who knows.

This is a lovely spot for breakfast or lunch. The food is lovely, although not the cheapest it is good quality and worth it. There is some outdoor play equipment for small children and plenty of outdoor benches and tables for eating outside during the covid pandemic and feeling safe. There are also pigs and goats which children enjoy seeing.

We visited Poplars Cafe with friends, and found the team to be very friendly and supportive to our needs. My partner had been shielding through lockdown, and the staff happily sat us in thier cabin, and opened the side entrance, so we had space from the other guests, and didn't need to walk through the cafe to get to our table. The cabin was a great size for our party to social distance. The staff were obviously busy, but friendly and happy to help. The food served was very tasty, and our 1 year old enjoyed running around the outdoor space and seeing the piglets! We would definitely visit again.

Four of us had lunch, can’t fault the food all very nice. Downsides were some COVID prep. You get your own cutlery from a big holder so end up putting your hands on all sorts of cutlery. Also track and trace was taken but not by staff, you have to all use the same pen to fill it in, surely better if one staff member does it not all members of public. Also tables close together with one family sitting back to back virtually against us.

Pre booked a table here for today. But after ordering, paying and receiving our drinks, I realised we had paid full price and not got our 50% off. I queried this as soon as I remembered we should have 50% off and they said the til had broken so it was not possible to do the scheme. I feel like this should have been explained, they had my contact details and so could have contacted me beforehand to let me know. They also could have said at the time of ordering. Instead, when I later queried it they pointed out a small inconspicuous sign at floor level 'explaining'. Feeling very disappointed I asked my fellow guests if they wished to stay we all agreed we would as by the time we would get to somewhere else it would be a very late lunch. However..... 1 hour later our sandwiches finally arrived!!! A ridiculous amount of time to wait for a spot of lunch and a huge bill of almost 40 pounds for not much more than sandwiches which were nothing special. I really wish they had been more upfront and honest with us before we ordered or arrived, I was with my parents it would have been an upheaval for them to up and leave so felt we had to stay. I felt like we were misled, and because of this we will now never return, whereas if they were up front and honest we would have returned another day. Disappointing.

I Have been visiting poplars farm cafe and shop for years as I am a local to the area I always visit here with family and friends when they come over my way to visit. My most recent visit was very disappointing I came with my mum this time I googled before hand and looked on the facebook page for what time it closes it stated 5pm we arrived just before 4pm thinking we had more than enough time to enjoy a late lunch and buy anything we wanted in the shop after. We found a table straight away there were a few other familys in there. I went to the counter to order to be told we stop serving food at 2pm thats when the chef goes home thought to myself thats a bit off nothing states that online or anywhere in the cafe and also does it take a chef to make a sandwich or baguette etc. But anyway ordered a slice of cake a can of coke and a pot of tea we hadn’t been sat down no longer than 5 minutes and a member of staff came over to us and everyone else in the cafe to say just so you know we close at 4pm by this time it had just gone 4pm she said we will give you ten minutes I questioned the fact online it states that the farm shuts at 5pm she replied with the cafe closes at 4pm and its the shop that closes at 5pm I was shocked think it’s disgusting nothing was mentioned when we ordered to just simply say just so you know we close in 5 minutes but your still welcome to order but no they took our money and said nothing!!! Shocking customer service so we just left right away didnt want to sit there being eyeballed by the staff (older ladies) so desperate to get home whilst they were tidying up the rest of the cafe talking about that they couldnt stay on much later at work and they needed to go and saying to each other you go now I will stay but the other one replying no you should go first so unprofessional find the younger staff and slightly older gentleman much nicer and much more friendly. As we left I re read the massive sign at the entrance to the farm it quite clearly states closing time at 5pm nothing about cafe closes at 4pm shop at 5pm. So on this occasion I didnt spend my usual amount of money in the shop and left we won’t be returning again also in the whole ten minutes or so I was there I heard many people ask to order food and be turned away there missing a trick there not extending food times. Save your money and go elsewhere.

We had a lovely late breakfast - 2 of us had the vegetarian breakfast (picture) and 1 of us had the farmshop breakfast. We all enjoyed them as they were tasty and portions were really good. It is probably one of the best veggie breakfasts that I have ever had! The free tea/coffee offer with the breakfasts was really good too. The wait for drinks and food to come out was quite slow (30-40 mins) but it was understandable as there weren’t many staff working. We didn’t mind the wait because the food was great when it arrived and the staff were very apologetic. We will return!

We came for tea and cake for an early father’s day treat on a wet weekend after remembering going to the cafe several years ago- remembering the pigs and the chickens, the shop and the lovely cake. We arrived at just gone 3pm (party of 6) and ordered drinks and cake. When the cakes arrived those who had scones discovered their clotted cream when opened was visibly mouldy. The waitress did vaguely apologise and brought replacements. My husbands cherry and almond cake tasted dissapointingly artificial. At 3.30 the waitress came to clear up the cups and plates- clearly they were wanting to close; she did this again 5 minutes later and again another 5 minuites later. We left feeling dissapointed and unwelcome. The kids wanted to play outside after we left the cafe as the rain had stopped. The swings were fun and they enjoyed running on the well kept grass. Dissapointingly the pig pen was overgrown and disused and there were no hens pecking around. I have never written a review before but felt I needed to write this one. We won’t be going back.

If we want to have a late breakfast and feel like spoiling ourselves we always come here for brunch, often with family and friends. We just love the sausages (we think they’re the best for miles). The quality of the food is always high and much of it comes from the farm. The service is always efficient and friendly.Negatives:Not enough toilet facilities for the size of the cafe inside and out.The toilets that are there are not often clean and are a bit smelly. I actually try to avoid using them at all.A bit pricey - especially given that any change incurs a cost...Positives:Great qualityLovely decor/environmentSausages are awesome! You can actually buy them from the farm shop too.All food is fresh, of a high quality and cooked wellService is friendly, welcoming and efficientI’ve never had bad service or food here and it’s been nice to see the cafe develop over the 8-10 years we’ve been comingIt’s nice to sit inside, or outside The log burners give it an extra coziness in the winter

No remorse for the awful food which was served that neither myself nor two daughters could eat. Swimming in grease. Slow. Unapologetic. Just terrible. Apart from the lovely green spaces, the pigs to see and the farm shop I would avoid making a specific effort to go here unless you have both money and time to waste and don't mind leaving with half your plate uneaten

Since the new ownership of this popular cafe and shop, there have been some changes. The cafe menu seems to have reduced in size but the quality remains high. Great brunch (or coffee and cake!). The shop is currently being reconfigured with a gift area and now has additional cafe seating. All this reduces the size and selection of the once great array of food items available for purchase - which is a shame. I hope they don't lose focus on what a farm shop is all about.

Shocking, by this time the cafe had quietened down anyway! Breakfast came after 50 minutes and for £7.95 adult £4.50 child... it was shocking, no beans on the adult breakfast! On a full English!? Bacon was absolutely cremated on mine and my 6 year olds breakfast. Would not recommend and would not eat here again.

There are, arguably, two reasons to visit Downend. One is on a summer’s afternoon to watch Downend CC play cricket with the bar in full swing and plenty of boundaries being scored as the ground is relatively small; the other is to pay a visit to Melanie’s Kitchen. This delicatessen shop is a positive cornucopia of cheeses, bakery items, biscuits, chutneys, artisan breads etc etc. The man who serves at the cheese counter (who I assume is not Melanie!) is a fountain of knowledge on local cheeses and knows all of the local cheese producers, when their cheeses are at their best and is happy to provide advice to ensure that you will leave well satisfied having enjoyed a sensory and culinary experience second to none. It’s full marks from me.
